Joan Jett sues over planned Runaways tribute

New York - Joan Jett loves rock and roll, but not on a tribute album she says an ex-employee put together without her permission.

The “I Love Rock N' Roll” singer-guitarist and 1970s bandmate Cherie Currie sued Thursday to try to stop the June 28 release of “Take It or Leave It: A Tribute to the Queens of Noise,” an intended homage to the Runaways, the punk bank that launched their careers and helped light a path for other brash, hard-edged female rock groups.

The two-disc album features Runaways songs covered by artists ranging from the all-woman Japanese pop-punk band Shonen Knife to David Johansen, of the 1970s glam-rock pacesetters the New York Dolls, according to the website of the label releasing it, Main Man Records. The group was best known for such tracks as “Cherry Bomb” and “Queens of Noise.”

But the lawsuit says the independent Main Man Records label used their names to promote the album without their say-so and that a Main Man staffer who once worked at Jett's record label used that connection to imply the project had her blessing.

Another HuffPo Piece by Mandy Moore - Honoring Our Unsung Leaders: Children

June 16 is the International Day of the African Child -- called "Youth Day" in South Africa. Thirty-five years ago today, hundreds of young black children were killed by police as they peacefully marched through the streets of Soweto, South Africa to demand improved education standards and the right to be taught in their own language.

Today, as we honor the bravery and sacrifice of these young children and their pivotal role in the creation of a free South Africa, we are reminded of a universal truth: one is never too young to make a difference.

As an Ambassador for PSI, I have met individuals around the world who are lending their ideas, their voices, and their time to improve their communities and the world at large. And there are millions more that I have not met. On April 25, World Malaria Day, I launched an essay competition with ABC News' Be the Change: Save a Life to give these unsung heroes a platform to share their stories.

I Don't Care What Yall Say, I love this rough dirty look

Heading home after working up a sweat, Gerard Butler was spotted leaving Equinox gym West Hollywood this morning (June 15).

The "Law Abiding Citizen" star donned some scruffy facial hair along with a white t-shirt and black athletic pants for his heart-pumping cardio session.

Meanwhile, Gerard is getting a early Oscar push for his upcoming role in the real life story "Machine Gun Preacher" - which is set for a September 2011 release.

Butler takes the lead in the film as Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing biker who becomes a crusader for Sudenese children who've been forced to become soldiers.

Hugh Jackman in Talks to Star in 'Les Misérables' Adaptation

The feature will be directed by "The King's Speech" helmer Tom Hooper.

Hugh Jackman is in talks to star Universal and Working Title’s big-screen musical adaptation of Les Misérables, to be directed by The King’s Speech helmer Tom Hooper.

If a deal makes, Jackman would play Jean Valjean, the man who steals bread to feed his sister and spends the ensuing years in prison (or trying to escape it) while also becoming the guardian of a young woman named Cosette, all against the backdrop of a 19th century French rebellion.

William Nicholson wrote the script. The story is based on the Victor Hugo book but best known to millions as one of the longest-running musicals around.

Les Miz, as it’s lovably known, would be the first time that Jackman, a singer and dancer with a Tony Award for his role in The Boy from Oz, would perform on the big screen. The WME-repped actor was scheduled to reprise his role as Wolverine in a sequel that was to have shot later this year, but the lack of a director on the project has thrown a wrench into that timetable.

Crystal harris "in tears" over broken engagment

Look at her trying to force them out.....

Saturday, June 18 was to be the happiest day of Crystal Harris' life. That was the date set for the Playboy bunny's wedding to Hugh Hefner until Harris broke off the engagement. ET's Chris Jacobs sat down with Hef's 25-yr-old former fiancee for details of the split straight from the source.

Through tears, a newly single Harris confides that although she is "relieved," she feels her biggest regret in breaking the engagement was that she "disappointed everybody."

"It happened so fast," she says of her decision to marry Hefner, admitting that the glamorous whirlwind of fame played a large part to what (in retrospect) may have been a hasty decision. "Hef asked me to marry him in front of three cameras and a photographer," Harris explains. "I thought it was something I wanted."

Bethenny Teams Up With Ellen For Talk Show

Explains why Ellen has had Bethenny on her show about once a month this season...

Bethenny Frankel's TV takeover continues! The reality star has begun filming a pilot for a new talk show.

The former Real Housewives of New York City star, who will begin shooting season three of her Bravo series Bethenny Ever After in July, began taping this advice-style talk show earlier this month, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I want to be on TV in a format where I can have a longer conversation with my fans rather than 140 characters on Twitter," Frankel, 40, said in an interview with the paper earlier this year.

In the show, produced by Telepictures, Frankel will team up with Ellen DeGeneres, who will be involved in the production off-camera.

"I'm working with you now," DeGeneres hinted on a recent episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The project will likely be filmed in New York, where Frankel lives with husband Jason Hoppy and daughter Bryn Casey, 13 months.

Frankel's rep did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

So proud of her!

Britney's Dad Is 'Phlegm Fatale' Tour Director

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Jamie Spears is going to court to get some serious money for directing Britney Spears' Femme Fatale Tour that kicks off today in Sacramento, CA... but turns out he'll be the best bargain in town.

TMZ has obtained legal docs that Jamie has filed with the judge in Britney's conservatorship case ... asking the judge to give him money for directing the tour and managing the logistics of the tour.

Jamie has not specified the amount of money he wants, and sources tell us it hasn't been calculated yet. Sources tell us the amount will be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, but it's crazy cheap for what Jamie is doing.

To give you some perspective, 5 people managed the 2009 Circus Tour. Although the amount they made is blacked out in the legal documents, we were able to discern the amount is in the 7 figures.

With Jamie on board for the Britney Spears/Nicki Minaj Femme Fatale Tour, 3 of the 5 positions will be eliminated. Thus, if Jamie gets a 6 figure salary for the upcoming 8-month world tour, everybody wins.

Whatever Jamie gets for the tour ... it will be in addition to the $16,000 a month he's pulling in for serving as Britney's conservator.

At a size 16, Adele would be considered to be fairly average in terms of her body shape; not small, but certainly not at the larger end of plus size either. And with her voice rather than her body as the main focus of her trade, why does the question of ”what dress size” seem to dominate all aspects of press attention regarding the twice Grammy award winning singer? Columbia Pictures has released the trailer for Moneyball, directed by Bennett Miller from a script by Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin. Opening in theaters on September 23, the drama stars Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright, Stephen Bishop, Kathyrn Morris and Chris Pratt.

Based on a true story, Moneyball is a movie for anybody who has ever dreamed of taking on the system. This Movie Needs to Happen Now: Melissa McCarthy and Jon Hamm to Possibly Star in New Apatow Flick

Two of the forces behind this summer's surprise hit comedy "Bridesmaids," producer Judd Apatow and director Paul Feig, could be reuniting a couple of the flick's scene-stealers for their own star vehicle. Last week, Universal Pictures made a deal for another comedy from Apatow and Feig. The project is being described as an unconventional love story about a guy who becomes obsessed with a woman. So who are the duo's picks for the starring roles? No negotiations have begun, but word is they want Melissa McCarthy, star of the CBS comedy "Mike and Molly" and so hilarious as the brash Megan in "Bridesmaids," for the female lead and "Mad Men's" Jon Hamm, who appeared uncredited in the movie as Kristen Wiig's "fun buddy," as the male lead.

Moviehole had a chance to catch up with the director, who opened up a little bit more about the project as well as others he's been working on.

"It was one of those things where I was like, 'Oh, that wasn't supposed to come out' but I'm kinda glad it did," Feig said. "I've been secretive about [the project] the past few months, but I guess I've dropped enough hints too. It's a real passion project. Again, I just want to tell stories that don't normally get told and this is another of those."

As for Hamm and McCarthy, "They're the insiration for it," he says. Feig likens Hamm to "the new Cary Grant, because he's so funny but so effortless" and describes McCarthy as a "force of nature." He adds that the film would be a "very unconventional love story, in the vein of ["Bridesmaids"]. Judd and I have a very specific storytelling style--it's very real and out of reality and we'll try to make it as funny as possible. I'm excited about that."

However, the currently-scripting project could take second position to something else he's working on. "There's actually something in the Fall that...is a sequel to a movie that people know but I can't really talk about it yet," Feig says. "We're still trying to finalize it. That would be fun. It's something I've wanted to do with some actors I've wanted to work with."

When pressed for details about this secretive project, he adds, "This would be a reboot of a franchise. I want to talk about it but it might not happen because of actors' deals and so on, so I better remain mysterious."

So it looks like all we can do for now is guess what this mystery project could be, as well as hope that this possible McCarthy-Hamm project (and a "Bridesmaids" sequel) comes to fruition in the very near future.

Another Duggar has come into the world

TLC, the network that airs 19 Kids and Counting, has been hyping a big announcement from the Duggar family on tomorrow’s Today Show. So what’s the big news? It’s probably not news that one of the kids is engaged or that Jinger finally escaped from Arkansatraz. The announcement is that oldest son Josh Duggar and wife Anna Duggar have just welcomed a son, Michael James Duggar.

Sources tell Crushable that relatives and friends have been posting happy congratulations notes to the couple on Facebook (Josh and Anna share a single profile), and that cousin Amy Duggar, who occasionally appears on the show and is trying to launch a country music career, has told friends that Josh and Anna will call their son MJ for short. Michael joins older sister Mackynzie Duggar, and it sounds like Josh and Anna plan to keep naming all their kids something that starts with M, just as Josh and all of his siblings have J names.

Congrats, Josh and Anna, and I am looking forward to seeing every second of your labor and delivery on TV very soon.

Brandi Glanville Is The New Bad Girl In 90210

Kelsey Grammer's ex-wife, Camille, is no longer the villain on the hit Bravo show, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, RadarOnline.com has learned.

Another actor’s ex-wife has taken those reigns – Eddie Cibrian’s first wife, Brandi Glanville – and by all accounts she’s bringing the bitchiness... And some!

During the first season, Camille was seen sparring with Kyle Richards in virtually every episode, as well as butting heads with all the other housewives and generally being a royal pain in the ass!

Not surprisingly, Camille didn't like the way she was portrayed on the show and has worked hard to repair her image, our source tells us.

"Camille felt that she was made to be the resident villain during the first season and she is determined to not be seen that way again. Camille is getting along very well with Kyle this year, and they have had no arguments at all. Camille has enough drama going on with Kelsey, and she recognizes that she needs her female friends right now," the insider tells RadarOnline.com.

So... Cue Brandi, who is taking over from where Camille left off last year!

"Brandi is fighting with everyone on the show. Brandi makes Camille look like a saint," our source reveals. “Bravo executives brought Brandi in to spice things up because they felt there wasn’t enough tension and it was very, very boring to watch. The executives were concerned that without Brandi, the ratings would suffer because there wasn’t enough drama. Well, casting Brandi is paying off, big time. Brandi is all drama, all the time.”

Also bringing some extra, unexpected, tension this season is Taylor Armstrong. As RadarOnline.com previously reported Taylor has had a complete turnaround after undergoing therapy and has gone from mild-mannered to in-your-face confrontational.

The large lipped lovely has especially been feuding with Adrianne Maloof, and not surprisingly, going head to head with Brandi.

Let the fireworks begin!

Filming is currently ongoing, and Bravo is expecting to air the second season in October.

Kathy Griffin jokes about Bristol Palin's new face in comedy special

After famously riffing on Bristol Palin's weight last year, Kathy Griffin is back for round two.

This time, the comedienne is poking fun of Palin for her new surgically-enhanced face on her upcoming Bravo special, "Gurrl Down," which premieres next Thursday.

"So Bristol Palin has this brand new chin, and I swear to God she looks like Jay Leno," jokes Griffin, as the crowd roars with laughter. "It's like she took a picture of Jay Leno, went to the dentist and said, 'Can I have this?'"

Then, the redhead reads aloud Palin's statement regarding her new look, which she claimed was merely corrective jaw surgery for a medical issue.

"No, that's true because when I had my first face lift it was because I was fighting scurvy," says Griffin, who then takes a dramatic pause. "And when I had my eye job it was because I had rickets."

Last year on VH1's "Divas Salute" special, Griffin joked that Sarah Palin's daughter was "the only contestant in the history of ['Dancing With the Stars'] to actually gain weight."

When the audience of servicemen and women booed, she continued. "No, come on, come on. She gained like 30 pounds in a week, I swear to God, it was fantastic. She's like the white Precious."

Palin responded that the boos "spoke volumes" about the "comedian," adding, "I hope people didn't have to pay money to hear her negativity and criticisms."

Wonder what she'll have to say this time.

Dov Hikind’s Reason For Opposing Marriage Equality: Lady Gaga

Before the New York state Assembly passed the marriage equality bill last night, Brooklyn Democrat Dov Hikind displayed a picture of Lady Gaga and explained that passing a marriage equality bill would have serious consequences: “We’ll all be forced to wear telephones on our heads.”

OK, so he didn’t actually say that. What he said was, “And one of the things I love, I gotta tell you. I came close to maybe changing my point of view when I started looking at all the celebrities who were telling New Yorkers what the moral, what the right thing was. And none other came close Lady Gaga. When Lady Gaga got involved and told us this, we should support gay marriage, y’know I said Lady Gaga. You know she is my example of how I should lead my life and how I should behave. Came close, but I didn’t quite do it.”

Ah yes… the classic Lady Gaga argument against same-sex marriage. Opponents have been using that against us for… centuries.

Wha-wha-what did you say, Dov? You’re breaking up on me.

This is a Game of Thrones post about Season 2!

As 'Game of Thrones' nears its finale, show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss talk about Season 2

The first season of “Game of Thrones” comes to a close this Sunday, having won over many viewers who wouldn’t normally immerse themselves in fantasy. It's also left some fans — those who hadn’t already read George R.R. Martin’s books — shellshocked by the brutal deaths of a few major characters (some more beloved than others).

HBO has granted the show a second season, sending show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss back to Belfast, where they are furiously working on adapting a script from the second book of the saga, “A Clash of Kings.”

They spoke by phone about which characters will reappear in Season 2 and the near-impossibility of creating a cable series out of books that depict an increasingly complex, epic world.

Rebecca Black Pulls Infamous ‘Friday’ Video From YouTube

It’s Thursday, Thursday, and Rebecca Black’s memetastic “Friday” video is no longer available on YouTube, due to a copyright claim filed by Rebecca Black apparently. It’s not clear what exactly happened to the video, which at its pre-takedown height had amassed 167,370,534 views off of the ARK Music Factory account.

Earlier this week it seemed like the video had been set up as a $2.99 YouTube Rental by ARK, and then not so much. Is this latest drama due to an attempt by ARK to capitalize on the young star’s Internet fame? I have no idea.

When asked if Rebecca Black herself had asked for the takedown, a YouTube spokesperson gave us the following statement,”YouTube takes copyright infringement very seriously. When we receive a complaint alleging that a video infringes another person or company’s copyrights, we remove that video. Users who believe that a video was removed in error can appeal the copyright takedown.”

CHRISTiano Ronaldo's interview with Cadena COPE

Cristiano did an interview with a Spanish radio station to talk about the side of him that the media seems to ignore. He talks about his vacation, his favourite food, his hairstyles and more.

What three places would you recommend us in Lisbon?

There are many great things in this city, which is where I started my career. I came when I was 11 and stayed seven years. It’s a great city, with great people and many museums, the beach, good food… it’s phenomenal, and very similar to Madrid, but with a beach [yes, that's the only thing that Madrid lacks!!].

And bacalhau?

Yes, of course, it’s a traditional Portuguese food and I love it, but we have many more things.

How is your vacation going?

Great, I’ve been spending time in Algarve with my family. It’s been phenomenal, the weather’s great and I’m very tan. I still have a few more days of “relax.”

Would you like the season to start now?

New Apple technology could block iPhone from recording concerts, live sports events

Note: I know this is not directly related to celebrities, but since many concert videos are posted on ONTD this does affect us in a way.

On the back of many concert tickets, fans are instructed not to record video and audio -- some venues even stop people from bringing cameras altogether. But as cell phones have gotten smarter and video technology has improved, it's all too easy for concert-goers to film and post a high-quality bootleg recording.

According to CNet, a newly published patent suggests Apple is on its way to stopping iPhone users from illegally recording concerts and other live events -- even films at movie theaters.

The patent describes infrared sensors that could be placed at venues that detect anyone holding up an iPhone towards the stage or screen. The sensors would automatically disable the iPhone camera, temporarily, preventing any footage from being recorded. Other iPhone functions would still work, such as texting and making calls.

According to The Daily Mail, the new technology is Apple's attempt to help broadcasters and companies that sell their own recordings of sports events and live concerts. The implication is that sales are hurt when amateur footage appears on YouTube and other video-sharing sites.

Apple may also be tinkering with the possibility of making agreements with record companies to charge people to film live events. For a small fee, iPhone users could bypass the infrared sensors and still record video.

CNet speculates the technology could also become a standard in all smartphones, preventing owners from even taking pictures of art in a museum or any other place that attempts to block photography or video recordings.

Fox News reports Apple's patent application was filed in the U.S. 18 months ago, but details were only made publicly available this month. The company declined to comment on its intentions with the new concept.

What do you think? Could Apple's new technology kill bootleg recordings of concerts?

MTV Launches Harry Potter World Cup: Pick The Greatest Character!

It's the best of times and it's the worst of times for "Harry Potter" fans all across the globe. On one hand, we're right on the cusp of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2," a film that's guaranteed to bring beautiful closure to one of the single greatest fantasy franchises of all time. On the other hand, there's that dirty word… closure.

Well, the doors haven't closed yet. Indeed, from where we're sitting, they're wide open — so wide, in fact, that a very important question still lingers: who is the greatest "Harry Potter" character of all time?

Colombian reggaeton star throws tantrum after ass-injection vid surfaces

Colombian reggaeton artist J. Balvin gave fans and press new material, though not the kind one might expect, after he was caught on camera getting a butt-injection, before throwing a fit over its publication.

The musician was apparently hysterical and furious after the embarrassing video of him squirming and screaming while receiving a medical butt-injection was posted online, although there has been no suggestion that the reggaeton star's injection was related to the popular Colombian fad of surgically enhancing one's backside.

The video was posted by his friend and fellow reggaeton artist Villegas, who did not realize the damage the video would do to their friendship, according to gossip site Sweet. When he discovered that J. Balvin was angry, he immediately attempted to apologize to his irate friend, who reportedly wouldn't give him the time of day or even answer his telephone.

To add insult to injury, apparently the video is super popular and has received a ton of hits from internet fans. J. Balvin appears to be building quite a reputation for himself, though likely not the kind he would want.

To see J. Balvin looking far less menacing than the picture above, watch below:

The singer is set to appear alongside Indian performer Sonu Nigam on June 24 at the IIFA Rocks charity event, a marquee concert set for next week's International Indian Film Academy celebrations.

Michael Jackson died in June 2009 at age 50 just as he was about to launch a comeback tour.

The IIFA Rocks music and fashion showcase will be held the day before a star-studded movie awards show often described as the Indian Oscars. It's the first time the gala has been held in North America.

The IIFA Rocks show will be co-hosted by Bollywood stars Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar and promises a parade of Indian and international artists and supermodels.

Supernatural Season 7 = More Trolling...I Mean Meta?

showrunner Sera Gamble says that we haven't seen the last of the series' meta episodes. The CW series has always embraced meta, going as far as introducing an actual fandom within the universe of the show (in "Monster at the End of This Book"), sending the boys to a convention full of their fans (in "The Real Ghostbusters") and then shipping them off to Vancouver where they had to pretend to be Jared and Jensen on-set with Misha Collins for an episode ("The French Mistake"). There was even an episode in which the Winchesters were stuck on various TV shows, from a "Grey's Anatomy"-esque medical drama to a multi-cam sitcom.

The episodes have always been divisive ones - fans tend to either love them or hate them. Gamble says we may be in for even more meta in the upcoming Season 7.

"We have not put the kibosh on meta," Gamble tells TVLine. "It's completely about somebody pitching a story that would work for us."

They'd have to dig pretty deep to out-meta "The French Mistake," which brought back former guest star and Padalecki's real life wife Genevieve Cortese to play herself. "We set a pretty high bar, but hey, I thought we were never going to be able to do meta again long before 'The French Mistake,'" Gamble says. "And then that got pitched, and we had to do it, of course. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in Season 7 or beyond, someone pitches something that enables us to do a fun episode like that again."

Dhani Harrison to play father's ukuleles on new album.

In other words, this is a Dhani Harrison post.

George Harrison's son Dhani has given his band thenewno2 a distinctive sound on their album by performing with some of the 40 ukeleles his late father left him in his will.

Dhani Harrison has become a big fan of the small guitars and is part of a huge movement to make them the hippest instruments.

He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "Eventually it gets to you and you can't help but love it. It's very disarming."

And playing the ukelele brings back wonderful memories of his father: "Sometimes in the house there would be 10 people playing ukeleles at the same time."

This is a bit of a "COOL STORY BRO" post. But I'm still under the impression that ONTD needs more of this adorable man talking about ukuleles.

Beyonce's economic recovery plan

Beyonce wants you to save money!

Beyonce’s new album “4″ just may sell for 49 cents. According to a anonymous source, Bey’s team is trying to cut a last minute deal with itunes or Amazon to sell the album for a reduced price online. Looks like she is trying to pull a Lady Gaga and sell one million albums in a week or maybe even more. I am sure the Beyonce stans was going to purchase the album anyway on June 28, but if it sells for 49 cents, lord knows how many copies they may purchase. You know how those Beyonce fans do.

I guess the rumors that she's pushing the album back are false

New Director for Wicked Lovely

American Psycho Director Takes On Wicked Lovely’s Cruel Faeries

Looks like we'll get a sufficiently dark movie adaptation of Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely: Deadline reports American Psycho director Mary Harron will helm the project.

Last we heard, Boys Don't Cry director Kimberly Peirce would direct. But she seems to have left the picture since September. Now Deadline reports Mary Harron, who also directed I Shot Andy Warhol and The Notorious Betty Page, has jumped aboard. She joins an interesting team: The script is by Caroline Thompson, who also wrote Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas, among other things. And Vince Vaughn's Wild West Picture Show outfit will produce.

The director is an interesting choice for the project, about a girl who's unlucky enough to attract the attention of the faeries. The Gentry have always been visible to Aislinn, but she manages to keep her Sight a secret until their king starts stalking her. If handled properly, this ought to be the anti-Twilight.

Here a description of the book, taken from Marr's website:

"Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries.

Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty-especially if they learn of her Sight-and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.

Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.

Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.

Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention.

But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost-regardless of her plans or desires.

Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything."

The movie still has a long way to go before it hits the multiplex, but if all goes well, the casting rumors should start any day.

Little Monsters Love the Big Man

Lady Gaga knows a little something about whipping her fans into a frothy mixture of hormones and high school. Her devoted base of "little monsters" number almost 11 million on Twitter, and they are a group ready and eager to do the bidding of a woman who dresses up like a sexless robot and sings songs about poker faces.

Could be kind of scary, right? Luckily, Gaga uses her fandom for good rather than evil, and recently had her monsters send their best regards to Clarence Clemons, saxophonist of the E Street Band and frequent collaborator with the pop star. Clarence suffered a stroke on Sunday, and since then Lady Gaga has gathered the best of her fans' videos and turned them into a 13-minute "Get Well" clip.

Here's hoping Clarence will feel the outpouring of well wishes and get better soon. We wouldn't want to see what Gaga could do with that monster power if she suddenly decided she wanted to take over the world.

Ryan Reynolds Could Be "The Ryan Reynolds of His Generation"

Ryan Reynolds Wrote His Own ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY Profile

Why I Am Obsessed With Ryan Reynolds...by Ryan Reynolds

The cover photo shows Reynolds with a smarmy look on his face, sporting a fake tattoo of his head on his upper arm. Pretty clever way to avoid paying a writer for your cover story!

How do you write a compelling profile of serially shirtless Green Lantern star Ryan Reynolds? If you're Entertainment Weekly, you let Reynolds write it himself. That what the magazine did for this week's issue, and the result is stunningly good, a deft, feather-light send-up of the actor's on-screen persona and fluffy celebrity journalism. And Ryan Reynolds wrote it. Some of our favorite lines:

  • “He spent a great deal of time with his older brothers and, in turn, his brothers were very close to him. Usually within striking distance.”
  • "Lady Luck gave him a wink and he broke into the business by scoring a lead role in a sitcom titled Two Guys, A Girl And A Pizza Place. Although the series was canceled 10 years ago, Reynolds still holds out hope they’ll change the title to something less stupid."
  • "Clawing his way out of a typecasting hole, he managed to secure a wider variety of parts, including several independent films that were later enjoyed by an audience of hundreds."
  • "His pal and costar from The Proposal, Sandra Bullock, often refers to Reynolds as a possible contender to be ‘the Ryan Reynolds of his generation."
  • "But Reynolds is also careful not to get too self-righteous, and is not one of those finger-wagging celebrities telling you how to live your life. He prefers to put the word out quietly, through the exciting mediums of interpretive dance and Japanese hand fans."

'Moneyball' Trailer: Brad Pitt Risks It All For Baseball

The prospect of Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill starring together in a movie has tantalized us since "Moneyball" was first announced, but the first trailer for the film has us officially on board.

The story itself is an intriguing one. Brad Pitt stars as Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane, who has to restructure his team based on a tight budget. He turns to recent Ivy League grad Peter Brand, played by Jonah Hill in a fictionalized version of Paul DePodesta, to help him crunch stats with new computer-generated analysis and chose his team players in a way completely different from the traditional route. It's a gamble that Beane means to win, even if the trailer leads us to believe it isn't all smooth sailing.

Screenwriters Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin leave their stamp on the movie trailer in a distinct way, right down to the Sorkinian line, "Don't go on the Internet." In fact, it's been pointed out that Pitt's Beane looks more like Sorkin than the actual real-life person. But the trailer's fast-paced vibe and engaging storyline has us excited that this won't be "just another baseball movie."

But what has us most excited is the actors behind the film. Pitt looks like he is in top form, and his match-up against Hill has us thrilled to see how those two play off each other onscreen. It looks like Hill will continue his funnyman persona in this flick, but with a certain dramatic gravitas that we haven't seen before. Rounding out the A-list cast are Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright and Chris Pratt.

The film is already getting some awards buzz, and for good reason from where we're standing. "Moneyball" hits theaters September 23, so we'll have to wait until then to know for sure.

If Fans Had Say In Movie Castings...We'd Get A Bad Marvel Vs Capcom Live Action

A fancast for the third of the gaming series 'Marvel Vs Capcom', (with the subtitle 'Fate of Two Worlds')...SuperDude style!
Welcome all! This is my fancast for the Marvel Vs Capcom (3) live-action movie.
Some of these actors I know are not perfect for the role, but I wanted to try and aim for something close to an actual video game movie, so kind of cheesy and more targeted towards children/teenagers.
There are some dodgy pictures in this only because I wanted the actual game shown rather than the slightly different looking poster versions.
I should say there are other characters I haven’t casted as they’re either unlockable, from DLC or something else and I didn’t want to spoil the game for anyone.

Why Has Everyone From ‘Bridesmaids’ Landed Big New Gigs Except Its Leading Lady Kristen Wiig?

Did The ‘Game-Changing’ Comedy Really Change Anything?

As we’ve already discussed at length, “Bridesmaids” is not only one of the best films of the year so far, but also a big, giant hit. Already the third-biggest grosser in the Judd Apatow stable, it’s had hugely impressive legs, dropping fractionally week-on-week and is heading to at least a $150 million domestic gross, and possibly even more. And, as is usual with hits, most of those involved have gotten big career boosts: Apatow is back on top after a string of under-performers, breakout star Melissa McCarthy has lined up two “Bridesmaids” reunions, one with writer Annie Mumolo, the other with director Paul Feig and star Jon Hamm, romantic lead Chris O’Dowd bagged a gig in the “Knocked Up” sequel/spin-off, and Ellie Kemper joined the cast of “21 Jump Street.”

But something’s a little off here. These announcements have all arrived in the five weeks since the movie opened, but not a peep has been heard from the film’s lead, “Saturday Night Live” veteran Kristen Wiig, who not only starred, but also served as a co-writer and co-producer on the project. Not long after her scene-stealing turn in “Knocked Up,” producer Apatow approached Wiig with the idea, Wiig in turn took it to her old friend, Mumolo, and the pair worked on the script together bicoastally over a series of years. It’s a film that wouldn’t exist without her, and yet she doesn’t seem to be getting the boost, despite virtually every review, including the handful of negative ones, praising her performance to the skies. How come?

Glee FINALLY hires new writers

In the midst of its summer concert tour, Glee has added six to its writing staff for Season 3.

Allison Adler, Marti Noxon, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Michael Hitchcock, Matt Hodgson and Ross Maxwell will join Glee executive producers Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan in the writers’ room beginning Monday when work starts on Season 3.

Despite its ratings success and the intricacies involved in melding musical numbers into the show’s narrative, Glee has maintained a remarkably small writing staff. Murphy, Falchuk and Brennan have formed the core creative group, eschewing a traditional writers’ room.

The plan originally was for Glee to introduce additional writers midway through the recently completed second season, but with a production-heavy schedule involving music supervision and choreography as well as planning the summer concert tour, Murphy, Falchuk and Brennan wound up writing all 22 episodes, with Murphy and Falchuk also directing several installments.

CONFIRMED: Benny Cumbermuffins as SMAUG in The Hobbit.

After reporting today that Luke Evans will play Bard in the Peter Jackson-directed The Hobbit and wondering who'll voice the dragon Smaug, Deadline can now tell you that it will be Benedict Cumberbatch.

He'll portray Smaug via motion capture. He is already on the picture, providing the voice of the character Necromancer. This comes as Cumberbatch is getting buzz for his supporting performances in the Steven Spielberg-directed War Horse.

Cumberbatch continues his role as Sherlock Holmes on the BBC/PBS series, which just won the BAFTA for Best Drama. He is represented by UTA and Conway Van Gelder.

Bloody Bloody Anna Paquin: An Interview With the ‘True Blood’ Star

When television viewers were introduced to Sookie Stackhouse, three years ago in real time but only a few weeks ago in the chronology of “True Blood,” she was a guileless Louisiana waitress with telepathic powers but without much knowledge of how the world worked, and – oh, right – she was a virgin.

How times have changed.

Over the first three seasons of “True Blood,” Sookie has grown into a take-charge heroine who can contend with shapeshifters, maenads, werewolves and – in Season 4 – witches, but no longer depends on her vampire paramour, Bill Compton, or his fanged rival, Eric Northman. During that time, Anna Paquin, the 28-year-old actress who plays Sookie, has evolved, too, into an increasingly central figure on this increasingly popular, explicit-in-all-kinds-of-ways HBO series, who has comfortably outgrown her former status as a precocious phenomenon (and is now married to co-star Stephen Moyer, who plays vampire Bill).

As anticipation builds for the June 26 season premiere of “True Blood,” Ms. Paquin spoke recently  about her maturation on the show. She talks about her time on “True Blood,” what Season 4 holds in store for Sookie, and the unusual gift she and Mr. Moyer gave to the crew.

Stevie Nicks on why Fleetwood Mac is back for good

Stevie Nicks is in a hurry.

One of the world’s great front-women — and the face of Fleetwood Mac since joining with then boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham back in 1975 — she is in London to promote a new solo album and appear with Rod Stewart in Hyde Park.

And, as she juggles her solo career with the ongoing resurrection of Fleetwood Mac, the Arizona-born singer, 63, knows time is of the essence.

'Once you turn 60, you can’t hang around,'she says.

Stevie Nicks is still on a mission to make music 34 year after recording the landmark album Rumours with Fleetwood Mac and has a new solo CD out.

'When we finished the Fleetwood Mac Unleashed Tour in 2009, I told the band I was going to make a solo record. I wanted to do it as quickly as I could — it took a year — and then go back to them.

'I’m not sure whether we’ll tour or make a new album, but we'll do something.

'In ten years, we’ll all be over 70. We might not feel like an 83-date tour then, so we’ve got to act quickly.'

Tacoma singer Vicci Martinez is a force on 'The Voice'

Collapse )

A decade ago, she passed on other chances to wrangle votes. At 16, while attending Tacoma's Stadium High School, this spunky daughter of a Mexican plumber dad and an ESL teacher mom aced her early auditions for TV's mega singing competition, "American Idol." (She had earlier performed on TV's "Star Search.") But Martinez chose not to continue.

Why? "I definitely just didn't believe I was ready for it. I felt like I needed to grow up first. To represent yourself on TV at that age ... I knew it wasn't going to be right for me."

Martinez also had some beefs with "Idol" producers. "They told me they had to change my style, I had to rock my look out more, which I didn't want. And I'm a songwriter, and they were big on owning anything you created."

Instead, Martinez worked hard at her craft and paid years of dues in local gigs. "I got my first paycheck when I was about 16," she said, "and moved away from home at 17, and then I was definitely scrounging."

But gradually, her guitar chops and soulful pipes did not go unnoticed. She and her band have a solid local fan base. She just recorded her fourth album ("Live at Jazzbones"), and has opened for such stars as Sting, Annie Lennox and B.B. King. And Martinez notes with pride that "The Voice" producers came to her.

"I've been doing this for 10 years, and nothing else. I've met with labels wanting to sign me and said no because I haven't wanted to compromise myself. ['The Voice'] found me, wanted me to audition, and they've let me keep being myself."

Martinez, who is openly gay, appreciates that her girlfriend Kate Monthy, director of the MLK Ballet in Tacoma, has been cheering her on. And she's happy to choose her own songs, and stay with her casual pants-and- T-shirts look.

"We've joked about it," she recounts with a laugh. "One day in wardrobe I put on this crazy-expensive, black, tight dress, and we sent a picture of me in it to the producers. They said, 'We hope you're joking, because this is too crazy!' "

interesting about Idol... glad she didn't compromise and worked the indie scene. I think she's going to win!

Michael Strahan speaks out about gay marriage, remains awesome while doing so

Defensive end Michael Strahan, who made Super Bowl XLII his last game after 15 seasons in what should be a Hall of Fame career, has taken his post-football life to several different media outlets and advocacy campaigns, including a recent one in support of same-sex marriage. Strahan recently shot a video for the New Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign with his fiancée, Nicole Murphy.

"All the publicity that it's gotten, between the NBA and everything else, definitely has opened up the topic again," Strahan recently told the New York Times. "The topic has always been there. It seems like this is a great time to talk about it, a great time to open up dialogue and give people more of an understanding about all the issues that are going on around it.

"I have plenty of gay friends, and I don't judge them. I want them to have all the same rights I have, and all the opportunities I have to be in a relationship, a great relationship, with the person that they're in love with."

Some former players may have a natural gap of understanding when it comes to things outside of the traditional "macho" viewpoint, but Strahan has learned a few things in his time as a football expert with FOX Sports.
"Heck, I work for FOX, man," Strahan told the Times. "They've got 'Glee' on TV."

I think it's amazing that he's speaking out about this. You go Glen Coco. Also my first post so yay.
