Go the Fuck to Sleep

Narrated by Samuel L Jackson

"All the kids from daycare are in dreamland. The froggie has made his last leap. Hell no you can't go to the bathroom, you know where you can go? The fuck to sleep."

—Samuel L. Jackson voices this audiobook version of "Go The Fuck to Sleep," the previously-Boinged book which was officially published today (after crazy pre-release piracy).
The Samuel L. Jackson audiobook is free for the time being. Listen to a sample here.

You can also buy a hard copy or a Kindle version of the book now, just out today.

Word is that Werner Herzog will do an audiobook version, to be released soon:

Published today, the picture book begs sleepless children to "go the fuck to sleep" in a series of quaint, expletive-ridden verses. It soared to the top of book charts last month after a pirated PDF went viral, and calls this week from a New Zealand lobby group to ban it are only likely to add to its appeal.

"The flowers doze low in the meadows / And high on the mountains so steep. / My life is a failure, I'm a shitty-ass parent. / Stop fucking with me, please, and sleep," writes author and award-winning novelist Adam Mansbach, who was moved to pen the book when his own daughter was suffering sleepless nights. "The cubs and the lions are snoring, / Wrapped in a big snuggly heap. / How come you can do all this other great shit / But you can't lie the fuck down and sleep?"

Mansbach said that "the best possible person in the world" was narrating the audiobook: Herzog. The film director's recording will be unveiled at an event to launch the book, illustrated by Ricardo Cortes for small American publisher Akashic Books, at the New York Public Library.

It's a Boy for Natalie Portman!

It's been a big year for Natalie Portman: an engagement, an Oscar and now a baby!

The actress and fiancé Benjamin Millepied welcomed a baby boy, PEOPLE has exclusively learned.

Portman, 30, met choreographer Millepied on the set of Black Swan, for which she later won an Oscar for Best Actress.

In December the couple announced that they were engaged and expecting their first child.

The actress, who went back to vegetarianism during her pregnancy, kept the sex of her baby under wraps.

"People can say a lot of things and they have a 50 percent chance of being right," she teased. "I'm Jewish and, I think in Judaism, there’s a lot of superstition around not doing too much before the baby comes."

As for her post-delivery plans, Portman intends on taking some well-deserved time off.

"I'll be out of the public eye after [the baby's born]," Portman told PEOPLE, adding that she would figure out future career opportunities "as it comes."

Finally! She was pregnant forever!

Rob Lowe, Kaley Cuoco to Star in Lifetime Movie

The duo will star in "The Drew Peterson Story," based on the nonfiction book about the alleged killer

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Rob Lowe is going from playing Parks and Recreation’s lovable boss to a man awaiting trial for the slaying of his third wife in Lifetime’s TV movie The Drew Peterson Story.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Lowe will play Drew Peterson, a charismatic, womanizing Chicago police officer that was charged with the death of his third wife after the mysterious disappearance of his fourth wife.

The Big Bang Theory co-star Kaley Cuoco will play Peterson’s fourth wife, Stacy, whose disappearance put the spotlight on him.

Based on Joseph Hosey’s nonfiction book Fatal Vows: The Tragic Wives of Drew Peterson, Judith Verno (The Craigslist Killer, Natalee Holloway) will executive produce the telefilm being written by Teena Booth (Natalee Holloway). Peace Out Productions will produce.

After following up on tips from a neighbor, authorities arrested Peterson and indited him for the death of his previous wife, Kathleen, who in 2004 was found drowned in an empty bathtub. Peterson has denied involvement in both cases and is awaiting trial.

Lowe is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment. Cuoco is with SDB Partners and Brillstein.

Academy Revises Best Picture Rules; Can Be 5 to 10 Nominees

The number won't be revealed until the best picture nominees are announced Jan. 24.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

As if taking a cue from TV's reality shows, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has added what it called "a new twist" to its best picture category. At the upcoming 84th Academy Awards, there may not be 10 movies nominated for best picture. Instead, new voting rules could result in a anywhere from five to 10 nominees in the category.

Although the best picture Oscar race was expanded from five to 10 pictures just two years ago, the Academy board of governors voted Tuesday night to introduce a new procedure, which it said would add "a new element of surprise," since the number of movies that make the cut won't be revealed until the best picture nominees are revealed at the nominations announcement Jan. 24.

In order to ensure a nomination, a picture will have to collect enough first-place votes on the nomination ballots to amount to five percent of the ballots cast.

The move is sure to throw a further complication into the awards process, since studios and awards consultants will now have to decide how hard to push for movies whose chances of snaring a nomination may look more marginal if the field doesn't expand to 10. It could wreck a certain amount of havoc in future years when Oscar historians try to compare races from different years. But it also should end some of the chatter that attached to movies that the handicappers assumed snuck in in ninth or tenth position over the past two years.

The Academy also adopted several other rule changes affecting the animation category and the visual effects "bake-off" and confirmed previous changes in the eligibility period in the documentary categories.

Christina Aguilera & Adam Levine to perform new single together!!!

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine of NBC's talent show "The Voice" are putting their voices together on a new Maroon 5 single.

Aguilera is featured with Levine and his band on the tune "Moves Like Jagger," which will be released next week on iTunes.

They'll perform the song on the June 21 episode of "The Voice," airing 9-11 p.m. EDT. The studio version will be available to buy online following the show, NBC announced Tuesday during this week's episode.

The track was recorded last month in Los Angeles, Levine said in a statement, adding that it was "great" getting to work with Aguilera. The song was described as quintessential Maroon 5 power pop, with an upbeat tune.

Aguilera called the collaboration a "wonderful opportunity."

Levine and Aguilera, along with Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton, are coaches on "The Voice," which awards the winning singer a record contract and a $100,000 prize.

Levine won't be idle for long after the June 29 season finale: Maroon 5 is co-headlining a North American summer tour with Train that begins July 22 in California.

ChristinaVIP (aka Matt) from ALiveDaily leaked the news several days ago before it was made official tonight.

Lady GaGa, Kristin Chenoweth to Guest Judge on 'SYTYCD'

"So You Think You Can Dance" season 8 is going to be glittered with big stars. After tapping Megan Mullally as a guest judge, the FOX reality show will also welcome dancing queen Lady GaGa as another guest judge sometime this season.

"I asked her when she performed on the 'American Idol' finale if she would come on and she said yes," executive producer and head judge Nigel Lythgoe tells Xfinity TV News. He adds that the "Poker Face" hitmaker's date has not been set yet, because "she is on tour so they said it would probably be later in the season. She is an amazing dancer and performer."

Kristin Chenoweth, who is known for her Broadway works and guest-starring role on "Glee", will additionally appear on the judge panel. Teasing further, Lythgoe says Ellen DeGeneres and Neil Patrick Harris are other potential judges as they are currently talking to producers about coming to the show.

Aside from the guest judges, "SYTYCD" may bring back popular dancer Alex Wong, who left the competition last season due to an injury, for all-star version. "Alex Wong is not fit enough to be a competitive dancer. Hopefully he is going to be fit enough, and hopefully he will be complementary to whoever is at the show at that point when it comes time to picking the all-stars," Lythgoe explains.

Attending today were stars Ke$ha, Blake Lively, and Courtney Love. Designers; Michael Kors, Donna Karan and Diane von Furstenberg we also participating in the gala event. Performers were Liza Minnelli and Jennifer Hudson. Special awards were given to:

James Franco, Piaget Award of Inspiration Recipient
Michael Kors, amfAR Award of Courage Recipient

The 25th Anniversary of the Foundation for AIDS Research brought out the big names and hopefully the big bucks. The goal of amfAR is to raise close to $30 million.  This year marks the 30 year timespan since the disease was first announced in the USA news.

Just for the record: I've seen the other thread about it, and I agree with everyone who says Heidi Klum looks kind of thin here. Just keep the wank about it to that post though.

Patrick Stump spent all his FOB money making Soul Punk, slept on friend's floor on tour

Fall Out Boy's frontman wagers his personal fortune on a new solo project, and he'll sleep on the floor if he has to.

Patrick Stump says he made enough money as the singer for pop-punk chart-toppers Fall Out Boy to retire, modestly...to a suburb. But his band's hiatus afforded him the chance to make what he calls an "outsider R&B" project, and he's staking his own earnings to bring Soul Punk (out this summer) to life. "If I made it into 1,000-seaters, I would be golden," Stump says. "That is success right now. Breaking even would be awesome." Here's the plan.

Stump spent a decade writing the music for Fall Out Boy, and singing lyrics mostly written by Pete Wentz. But another sound was percolating in his head, one that he struggled to explain to his label, Island Records, and management. "They were like, 'Yeah, so it's going to be kind of like a throwback soul thing? Like a dude Adele!' I'm like, 'No, not quite.' So I took my money and I invested in properly recording what I was trying to say so I could get the ball rolling." And while recording at home on rented equipment isn't exactly Tusk, when you're learning on the fly, time -- literally -- is money. "I probably could have done the same record for a lot less if I knew more about engineering," concedes Stump, who also kept costs down by playing every note on the album himself.

"I spared no expense on my band," Stump says. "I wanted to treat them really well. That's where I spent everything." Among his recruits: bassist Matt Rubano, most recently of Taking Back Sunday, and Casey Benjamin, who plays sax and keys for Mos Def and Q-Tip. While he couldn't reveal what each guy makes, Stump says a quality touring keyboardist can cost up to $3,000 a week, before expenses.

Adkins forges on, to release new album in August

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Life is full of highs and lows for Trace Adkins right now.

The country singer is forging on after losing his house in a fire June 4, announcing during his performance at the CMA Music Festival last weekend that he's going ahead with plans to release a new album in early August.

Adkins hasn't missed a performance and doesn't expect to after briefly returning home from Alaska following the fire to check on his family.

"My wife (Rhonda) and kids, they're the only ones I'm concerned about," Adkins said in a phone interview Tuesday from Burlington, Iowa. "And it's a huge adjustment for them. I think they're still in shock."

A faulty power strip under a workbench in the family's garage was the cause of the fire. Adkins takes a "that stuff was just stuff" attitude. But the loss does enter his mind often and sometimes from strange angles.

"I realized I needed a shave and I had to go buy some razors," Adkins said. "Just little things like that, you just don't even think about it and then all of the sudden you say, `I need ... oh, I don't have that anymore.'"

His excitement over "Proud to be Here" leavens some of the emotional upheaval in his life. He calls it his favorite album "in a long time," and thinks it shows the kind of range he finds satisfying, from straight-up country to R&B-flavored songs and deep blues.

"I think I've gotten a little closer to the reason I moved to Nashville and got in this business in the first place, which was to make Ronnie Milsap records," Adkins said. "I've never made any secret about that. All I'm doing is copying Ronnie Milsap. What I mean by that is I always loved the way Ronnie was able to do what he wanted to do, the kind of music that he wanted to do. And he did everything well."

The 37-year-old actor plays a lady-loving lawyer in the comedy about two lifelong friends who are recruited by their firm’s partner after winning a high-profile case.

Mark-Paul recently talked about suffering a wardrobe malfunction while filming a hot tub scene.

“You literally just top-stick it to your thing and that’s what you wear. That [was] a chlorinated hot tub, so it ate away the adhesive,” he told Access Hollywood.

“So [during] take three, I stand up - and there [are] a hundred extras and the crew people [watching] - and, as [co-star] Breckin [Meyer] likes to say, it was ‘Screech, Slater, and Mr. Belding,” he said, referring to the Saved by the Bell characters.

Alleged Plot to 'Cause Serious Harm' to Joss Stone Foiled

Two men in their early 30s have been arrested near British singer Joss Stone's isolated U.K. farmhouse, allegedly
with swords, rope, and a body bag in their car. Police believe the two were plotting to rob the 24-year-old star, or at minimum "cause her some really serious harm," the Telegraph reports.

Police began investigating the pair's red Fiat Punto after neighbors reported seeing a suspicious car on their quiet country roads. Cops first arrested the duo for weapons possession Monday morning; the charges were later escalated to conspiracy to rob and murder.

Investigators have not identified the two men who drove 250 miles to rural Devon from Manchester, and refuse to confirm what exactly was found in their car, but U.K. papers are reporting the pair also were in possession of floor plans and aerial photos of Stone's property. Police are still trying to determine their motive -- whether they resented her success or simply targeted her for her money, or had some other grudge against the star. According to the Telegraph, Stone is worth more than £9 million, and is one of the Top Five highest-earning female singers in the U.K.

"Joss is aware of the arrests and is being kept informed by the police," one of the singer's reps
tells the Guardian. A neighbor told the paper the singer "was quite laid back and not in a major panic" the day after the arrests.

Fox in Talks for Big Sci-Fi Project With James Cameron.
Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Sam Worthington Circling

20th Century Fox is in early talks with writer Will Staples to pick up a sci-fi action project that could serve as high-powered reunion of Avatar director James Cameron and star Sam Worthington, with the added firepower of Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

Myth, a pitch that would be written by Staples, has drawn the interest of Cameron, who is attached to executive produce, with di Bonaventura and Worthington attached to produce, although no deals have been made yet. Cameron would not direct, and at this stage, Worthington is not attached to star.

Nothing is known about Myth other than it’s big, it’s sci-fi, and it’s got lots of action.

Amber Portwood’s Suicide 911 Call

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It was baby daddy and self-professed boyfriend Gary Shirley who called 911 on Tuesday morning fearing Amber Portwood was trying to end her life.
RadarOnline.com has obtained the 911 call in which Gary reveals this isn’t the first time the Teen Mom star has threatened suicide.

“I spoke with my girlfriend…she had said something to me about having a hard time with her life,” Gary told the operator.
“She said, ‘Call the police, they’re going to find my body in the garage.’”
Amber, 21, was found by authorities face-up on her couch and was immediately transported to St. Johns Hospital by ambulance.“She’s said this several times,” Gary said, admitting that this isn’t the first time Amber has talked about taking her own life.

“She’s going to hang herself.”
Star magazine was first to report Amber’s suicide attempt via RadarOnline.com, and according to a source she was found unconscious in her home with a rope around her neck.
“When two EMT workers arrived, they removed the rope that Amber had loosely knotted around her neck. They tried speaking with her, but she was in and out of consciousness and couldn’t respond; she was just moaning,” the source said.

Police later confirmed Star’s story with a statement that read: “Late this morning (11:34 a.m.), Anderson Police responded to a call at a residence in the 1300 block of Pleasant Meadow Drive. According to the caller, 21-year-old Amber L. Portwood was depressed and threatening to end her life. The victim, who did not appear to be injured, was transported to a local medical facility for further evaluation.”

Joel Silver taking 'Ben 10' to bigscreen

Joel Silver has signed on to develop a live-action feature film based on Cartoon Network's "Ben 10" sci-fi franchise, with an eye toward distribution through Warner Bros.

The show, popular with boys, has consistently logged high ratings in both cartoon series and live-action TV movie form on the Turner kidnet, nearing the 4 million viewer mark with telepic "Ben 10: Race Against Time." Silver said he aims to make the bigscreen version a potential franchise starter.

The Warners-based Silver said his sons clued him in to the world of Ben Tennyson, a boy who can transform into 10 different alien creatures with the help of a glovelike device called the Omnitrix.

"I think we have to try something fresh and go at it in a way that stays true to the original material," Silver said. "I have a 5-year-old and a 9-year-old, so it's somewhere between them."

It's not Silver's first foray into kids' action films, of course. "I tried to do (something similar) with 'Speed Racer' and failed miserably," he said. "You always learn more from the ones that don't work than the ones that do work."

"Ben 10" licensed goods have been notably successful for Cartoon, with several toy lines already established. The franchise also ranks No. 1 among the net's properties in electronic sales (including several vidgames and on-demand replays of episodes and movies).

"I cannot think of anyone better suited than Joel Silver to develop a theatrical action-driven adventure based on our franchise Ben 10," said Stu Snyder, chief operating officer of Turner's animation, young adults and kids media division.

Dark Castle's Steve Richards (who has signed on to produce with fellow shingle co-prexy Andrew Rona and Silver) said that the bigscreen version of "Ben 10" would be completely recast from the character's previous live-action incarnations, and that the producers want to go as big as possible with the project.

"We really see this as a large, big-budgeted tentpole movie," Richards said.

Silver and Dark Castle are currently seeking writers for "Ben 10." Meanwhile, Silver said he's preparing to kick into high gear on "Project X," which is slated for next year, and "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," skedded for December.

The Weinstein Company acquires Madonna’s W.E. for U.S. Release

Abbie Cornish, James D’Arcy, Andrea Riseborough Star In Romantic Drama

Madonna’s Feature Film Directorial Debut

2011 Release Planned

New York, NY, June 13, 2011 – The Weinstein Company (TWC) announced today that it has acquired U.S. distribution rights to “W.E.,” Madonna’s directorial debut of a feature film.  W.E. is a romantic drama co-written by Madonna and Alek Keshishian, produced by Madonna and Kris Thykier and executive produced by Scott Franklin (BLACK SWAN).  It stars Abbie Cornish (LIMITLESS), Oscar Isaac (DRIVE), James D’Arcy (MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD), Andrea Riseborough (NEVER LET ME GO), Natalie Dormer (“The Tudors”), Richard Coyle (PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME), James Fox (SHERLOCK HOLMES) and Laurence Fox (“Inspector Lewis”).  The announcement was made by TWC Co-Chairman Harvey Weinstein and President of Production Donna Gigliotti.

Spanning six decades, W.E. juxtaposes a contemporary love story with that of King Edward VIII and American divorcée Wallis Simpson.

“W.E. is about the nature of true love, and the sacrifices and compromises that are often made.  I’ve wanted to tell this story for a very long time, and bringing it to life has been a great adventure for me. I’m looking forward to working with Harvey and The Weinstein Company on this film,” commented Madonna.

“Madonna has really come into her own as a filmmaker with W.E.,” said Weinstein. “She’s taken one of the most famous romances of the 20th Century and brought it to life in a smart, sexy and thoroughly modern way.  It’s a terrific addition to our US release slate.”

Commented Gigliotti, “The advance footage for W.E. was some of the most impressive I’ve ever seen.  I can’t wait for American audiences to have the opportunity to see this film.”

The deal was negotiated for TWC by Weinstein, COO David Glasser and Michal Steinberg, Senior Vice President Business Affairs and Acquisitions; and by CAA, on behalf of the filmmakers.

W.E. tells the story of two fragile but determined women – Wally Winthrop and Wallis Simpson – separated by more than six decades.  In 1998, lonely New Yorker Wally Winthrop (Abbie Cornish) is obsessed with what she perceives as the ultimate love story: King Edward’s VIII’s abdication of the British throne for the woman he loved, American divorcée Wallis Simpson.  But Wally’s research, including several visits to the Sotheby’s auction of the Windsor Estate, reveals that the couple’s life together was not as perfect as she thought. Weaving back and forth in time, W.E. intertwines Wally’s journey of discovery in New York with the story of Wallis (Andrea Riseborough) and Edward (James D’Arcy), from the glamorous early days of their romance to the slow unraveling of their lives in the decades that followed.

Amburs Cry-For-Help Don't Impress Gary Much

While Teen Mom star Amber Portwood recovered in the hospital from Tuesday’s suicide attempt, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned her baby daddy Gary Shirley threw a BBQ.

According to a well-placed source, instead of showing support bedside by the mother of his child, Shirley had a gathering of close friends over to his house for a cookout.

“Gary seems to be doing okay. He had a cookout at his house last night with a bunch of his good friends,” the source said. “He’s concerned for Amber, but he has custody of Leah right now, and she’s his priority.”

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, police were called to Portwood’s Anderson, Indiana home after a 911 call was placed saying she was depressed and threatening to end her life.

She was transported to St. Johns Hospital in Anderson, Indiana where Shirley visited her for five minutes.

“Everyone agreed it’d been a crazy day and he just wanted to have a relaxing night with friends,” the source said.

Yes, very! When you venture out on your own with a project like this there is no one else to point a finger at if it doesn’t perform. That being said, I have really enjoyed the freedom it has allowed me in making both business and creative decisions. When it comes down to it, this is really a passion project. PLAYBOY: What about in movies? Who would you like to work with?
TIMBERLAKE: It would be fun to do something with Ryan Gosling because we’ve known each other since we were 10. Picking movies is more than hiring actors. Who’s going to be leading the ship? Who’s the director? What is the script saying? What story are we telling?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

They are becoming known as the "mommyrexics." You know mom celebs like Rachel Zoe, Bethenny Frankel, and Victoria Beckham who seem to bounce right back to their slim physique practically as they head out the hopsital door with their new born.

And it seems that "mommyrexics" are even becoming a trend. According to reports these women are paying top dollar for trainers towhip them back into shape asap! But is it too extreme?

Joshua Margolis, a personal trainer at Mind Over Matter Health & Fitness, which offers MILF and Stroller Bootcamp classes, told the New York Post:

'Hell hath no fury like a post-partum woman trying to get back into the groove.'

Suri Cruise Gets a $100 000 Tree House?

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes just bought their daughter, Suri Cruise a tree house.  According, to In Touch magazine the  tree house cost $100 000.  It is the size of a mini estate and has running water, electricity as well as “shag carpeting.” A friend said, the  house also has security cameras, a “housekeeper” and a “team of nannies that cater to [Suri's] every need.”

Maybe, Tom and Katie wanted a place to put Suri’s $150 000 shoe collection?

Could 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2' be 2011's biggest advanced seller?

It all ends, indeed. Exactly one month from today, on July 15, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2, the final film in the wildly successful and beloved franchise, hits theaters. And while most Potter fans are dreading that the end is nigh, they also can’t seem to get the tickets to the saga’s conclusion — which went on sale this week in select markets — fast enough. (Potter-fanatics who do not yet have tickets on sale in their area can visit the Harry Potter fan page on Fandango, which began selling tickets over the weekend, to sign up to receive an e-mail for when they become available.)

It's Time for Another Ben Cohen in Gay Times Magazine post!

Meeting Benjamin Christopher Cohen MBE for the first time is an intimidating experience.

First up, this rugby legend and pin up boy of choice for droves of gay men is positively gigantic. As he stands to greet me I find myself momentarily reclining like a frightened animal. They don’t call him Big Ben Cohen for nothing.

“Rugby’s a diverse group of people size wise,“ he laughs. “I’ve always been a big lad. I have a big backside obviously, big legs - long legs. I struggle to get jeans that fit.” Talk of his big backside. He knows how to make a boy blush.

Here’s what the 22-year-old rocker had to share with the mag about her beauty routine:

On her take on glamor: “Do what you want and you can’t go wrong!”

On her favorite colors right now: “I like nails that are loud and vibrant I love yellow on my nails. It complements my pale skin….I’m really into sea-foam green - ’70s bathroom style.”

On keeping her hair healthy with Moroccan oil: “The healthier my hair, the better it looks. I put it in my hair, and then let it air-dry.”

Why 'Parks and Rec,' 'Community,' and 'Justified' can hope for an Emmy nod: Thank the TCA Awards!

Earlier this week, nominations for the 27th annual Television Critics Association Awards were announced. With Emmy nomination ballots not due until June 24 (nominations are announced July 14), we got to wondering what the critics’ picks could tell us about the Academy’s. After comparing the last 10 years’ worth of nominations, here are four predictions:

• When a primetime comedy makes it into the TCA’s all-encompassing Program of the Year category — which has only happened four times between 2001 and 2010 — it always earns an Emmy nomination. That means Parks and Recreation — the sole comedy in TCA’s 2011 Program of the Year category — should earn its first Emmy nod for Outstanding Comedy Series.

'The Voice': The Real Backstory Behind NBC's 'Smash'

In The Hollywood Reporter cover story, the executives, producers and talent behind the pricey singing competition -- costing $2.3 million per hour
HINT: Coach Aguilera is pulling down more than $225,000 per hour; the other coaches -- Levine, Shelton and Green -- are getting about $75,000 each.

For the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter, out in Los Angeles and New York on Thursday, Kim Masters and Lacey Rose sat down with the executives, producers and talent who turned The Voice into fourth-place NBC's biggest hit in five years.

Among the revelations:

The concept wasn't crystallized, but it would involve three to four star judges from different genres who would mentor unknown singers. Telegdy and his team began crafting a wish list that included Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. By August 2010, they already were hunting for contestants, but when the idea was pitched the idea to Jeff Gaspin, then-chairman of NBCU Television Entertainment, they hit a wall. What's differentiating about this show, he asked? Soon, Telegdy heard about The Voice of Holland. It came from John de Mol, who had launched international hit formats Big Brother and Deal or No Deal. The hook was the blind auditions, where the "coaches" only hear -- not see -- the contestants. "Mark and I looked at each other and said, 'Oh my God, how could we be so stupid not to think of this ourselves?,' " says Telegdy. "John will hate seeing this in print, but I did think to myself, 'There's a reason John de Mol has a plane and a billion dollars."

The Voice format was also being shopped to CBS, which would balk at the high production and acquisition costs. Telegdy did not: "I was willing to pay a premium." In those early days, the cost per hour was $1.5 million. By the time it jelled, the number was at $2.3 million, more than the network would pay to license a first-year hourlong (about $2 million). Knowledgeable sources say celebrity coach Aguilera is pulling down more than $225,000 per hour; the other coaches -- Levine, Shelton and Green -- are getting about $75,000 each. The story reveals how the execs wanted talent who could actually perform and had current musical credibility.

Beyonce on her new perfume Pulse

Beyonce's New Scent

With a new album, 4, on the brink of release, and a European tour starting next week, one would think Beyoncé’s metallic-Minx’d hands are too full to juggle anything else, but she’s been hard at work on another number: three, as in her third fragrance.

“Women always tell me that my music makes them feel strong and confident, and Pulse is about finding that inner power,” the singer, a 16-time Grammy winning, Golden Globe nominated actress, said about her newest creation, Pulse, a floral citrus scent hitting stores in September. ELLE got the exclusive scoop on the juice, its fierce ad campaign and what gets the megastar’s pulse racing.

ELLE: Your first fragrance, Heat, was a huge success. Did you feel any pressure following that up?
BK: I didn’t. The success of Heat was amazing, but why not represent a different side of a woman? Pulse represents the woman I am on stage. When I think about excitement, it makes me think about my heart racing and a pulsating beat—it’s my stage persona. Heat represents my sensual side, it’s very spicy and Southern. Heat Rush is more about the woman I am on my off time, when I’m on vacation.

ELLE: You’ve been performing your whole life. Does your heart really still race when you get on stage?
BK: Performing at the Billboard Music Awards and on the Oprah farewell show made me so nervous! My heart was pounding out of my chest. But it’s amazing how that nervousness never goes away—it’s my natural response to something exciting and fresh and inspiring. It’s just like when you’re in a relationship. It’s not good when your pulse stops racing. That means you’ve got to spice it up.

January Jones & Jennifer Carpenter in LA, Part Deux

Proving that people in Los Angeles actually do get out of their cars once in awhile, January Jones was seen as she walked her way through a few errands on Tuesday (June 14).

The Mad Men actress, who is expecting a child in early fall, also was spotted as she finished up a lunch date with her friend, Dexter actress Jennifer Carpenter.

Yesterday January revealed on a radio interview that she was struggling to come up with baby names. "I'm having a hard time. I'm looking for boy and girl names because [the gender] is going to be a surprise for me," she said. "I'm open to suggestions."

Q&A: Jaleel White on His 31-Year Career

Jaleel White will never understand your pity. White, who has branched out into a plethora of projects over the last 13 years since Family Matters ended, still gets a tad touchy when the subject of Über-nerd Steve Urkel comes up. Not because he’s trying to disassociate himself from the character that made him a star (although he did once plead, “Put a bullet in my head” if ever caught playing the role again), but more because he doesn’t quite understand why some people think it was such a bad gig. As White says, he made a “shitload of money,” even if that did mean having to cover up a newfound bulge in his pants as he aged.

I caught up with White to reflect on his 31-year career (yes, 31 years), which includes the heartbreak of coming this close to being a Huxtable on The Cosby Show. Make no mistake, White—who also plays a banjo-wielding teacher in this past weekend’s pre-teen comedy film Judy Moody and the No Bummer Summer and is set to shoot a film that he’s been writing for the past four years—is still very proud of his accomplishments on Family Matters. So proud, in fact, he’s willing to challenge the legitimacy of Tyler Perry.

Keri Hilson performs free concert in a Walmart parking lot

Grammy-nominated artist Keri Hilson visited Memphis Tuesday to give a free concert as part of a promotional tour.

The music at the "Walmart Road to Essence Music Festival Concert in Memphis" was hot Tuesday, and so was the unbearable heat.

The warm temps were too much for many who passed out after succumbing to the heat during the concert, held at the Walmart on Winchester Road. According to Memphis Firefighters, one person had to be treated for heat exhaustion.

"I brought my children out," Renita Lauderdale said. "Let them go ahead. I'll stay cool. I gave them plenty of water before they went out there, but that's fine."

Excited fans didn't let the hot weather stop them from taking part in the special 45 minute mini-concert featuring Grammy nominated singer Keri Hilson and singer-songwriter Ledisi.

"My security had to pull out a couple girls who were fatigued and about to pass out," Hilson said. "Beyond that it was a lot of energy and it was beautiful."

After the concert was over, hundreds poured into the Walmart to cool off, hoping to get an autographed copy of Hilson's latest CD. But when chaos erupted inside the store, Walmart had to temporarily close its doors to allow security to regain control of the crowd.

Despite the heat and chaos, those who attended the concert said having the opportunity to see two of their favorite artists perform was well worth it.

"I love Keri Hilson," Nadia Matthews said. "She's a positive roll model and I think it's great she came to Memphis."

The Memphis concert is one of numerous in-store concerts and events throughout the nation leading up to the Essence Music Festival.

Crowd-sourced video for Michael Jackson's 'Behind the Mask' premieres

Prince Harry to return to Afghanistan

Prince Harry, who was hastily withdrawn from a tour of Helmand in 2008 after his position was compromised by foreign media reports, has often expressed the desire to return to the front line.

Now he is set to be granted another tour when his squadron is deployed to Afghanistan next year, by which time he should have completed his Apache pilot training.

Clarence House said the Prince would complete his training next year and would then be available for deployment wherever Apaches were needed – including Afghanistan.

It is understood that his squadron is being lined up for a return to Afghanistan next year, most likely in late summer.

Rather than serving as a front line junior officer with the Household Cavalry, as he did on his previous tour, Prince Harry will fly a £40 million AH-64 attack helicopter in operations against insurgents.

Aaliyah's Death Inspired Alicia Keys Song 'If I Ain't Got You"

Alicia Keys has revealed that her song "If I Ain't Got You" was inspired by singer Aaliyah's death.

Keys, who is releasing the 10th anniversary edition of her Grammy-winning album Songs in A minor on June 28, said of the 2003 single from The Diary of Alicia Keys: "[It] was also such an incredible song for me, it just means so much. Certain songs change everything. This was one of them. The song idea came together right after Aaliyah passed away. It was such a sad time and no one wanted to believe it. It just made everything crystal clear to me — what matters, and what doesn't."

She added: "It came quickly and I was so moved to write it and it doesn't matter how many times I sing it, I love it with the same intensity as when I first wrote and recorded it."

Keys is slated to perform at this year's BET Awards on June 26 in Los Angeles.

Awww I love them both tbh!!! I really really wish Aaliyah was still here ;___;

Sean Penn and Garcelle Beauvais Dating?

Scarlett Who? Sean Penn Has Dinner With...

So who shared a meal with the outspoken actor and human-rights activist the other night at the celebrity haunt Sunset Tower Hotel in Los Angeles? Although he was arrived solo and sat alone at the bar for a bit, he was eventually joined by none other than Franklin & Bash actress Garcelle Beauvais (NYPD BLUE, THE JAMIE FOXX SHOW). “When she arrived, they moved to the front corner table, which put them on display,” a source tells us. “They sat inside for a while and even ordered food.”

Then they moved outside, where Penn was able to smoke—and perhaps have more privacy? Penn’s rep did not immediately comment. Beauvais’ issued the standard line about not commenting on her client’s private life. She was on hand in New York when Penn was honored earlier this year at the Help Haiti: Urban Zen HHRH & The Stiller Foundation event, which honored the Oscar winner for his work on the island nation.

FYI, in April 2010 the then Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon did the following when she discovered that her husband was cheating on her:

Garcelle Beauvias-Nilon shames CAA Agent Husband in Cheater Row

Actress Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon is accomplished, beautiful and the married to a successful Creative Artists Agency (CAA) agent. His alleged infidelity will not go gently or quietly into that old school Hollywood hush-hush graveyard.

Beauvais-Nilon is fuming, and she is taking him down with her vitriol delivered via email to his peers and coworkers at the full service talent agency once home to Michael Ovitz in the days of yore. Actress Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon, according to Page Six, blasted a little tell-all email with the subject line: Tiger Woods/Jesse James/Mike Nilon. It says,  "What do they have in common . . . I found out today that MY husband of almost 9 yrs has been having an affair for 5 yrs with some (one) in Chicago. I am devastated!!!! And I have been duped!!"

Which True Blood character is going gay?

True Blood has turned people into vampires, vampires into piles of gore, assorted wildlife into people, and Michelle Forbes into the ultimate party ghoul. But perhaps no transformation in the show’s colorful history will come as quite as great a shock as the one that we find out about during the HBO hit’s ferociously anticipated fourth season, premiering June 26: A major character, heretofore heterosexual, will be involved in a same-sex romance.

I’m not going to reveal any more clues about the character — who may or may not be featured in the above image — so as not to risk getting fanged by series creator Alan Ball. However, I will say that, having witnessed the big reveal, it doesn’t feel gimmicky. In fact, after the initial shock wears off, I imagine you will do what I did and go, “Yeah. Makes total sense.”

True Blood has never shied away from exploring its characters’ fluid sexuality. Last season alone found Sam fantasizing about a roll in the hay with Bill, and a hidden agenda motive prompted Eric to seduce Talbot (before whacking him). And, of course, there’s resident bisexual Pam and openly gay Lafayette, the latter of whom is now settled down with Jesus.

So, who do you think discovers his/her True identity?

And really so do we. I mean, couldn’t you see this guy getting stoned before his shift at the coop? Playing a little acoustic “Redemption Song” around a fire pit in J Tree? In Little Roy vs. Nirvana, Little Roy takes on both “Sliver” and “Dive” off of Nirvana’s 1990 7-inch single. Roy’s rendition of “Sliver” gets by on the novelty, but “Dive” is a truly stellar cover—there are moments where, when he repeats Dive with me/ Dive with me over and again, you can hear the echoes of Cobain’s strained screams and imagine what might have been if he’d taken a different musical path.

David Lynch to Open Mulholland Drive Nightclub

Lynch Pictures, Images and Photos

David Lynch is branching out into the nightclub business with a Mulholland Drive themed hot-spot in Paris.

The night-time haunt will be based on his bizarre and unforgettable 2001 film. Named after the film’s own club, Silencio will be launched in September.

It will reportedly boast similar stylistic features as those in found in the film, and will house a cinema, concert hall, art gallery, restaurant, and naturally a bar. They better stock up on Pabst Blue Ribbon.

It’s not yet certain whether it will feature references to the director’s other works. Although similarities to Twin Peaks’ haunting Red Room may not be a stretch.

Silencio can be found at 142 Rue Montmartre in the capital, while preparations are underway. The club will open its doors from 6pm to 6am, inviting its guests to indulge in 12 hours of Lynch-themed eccentricity.

It is expected to be a first class retreat for all Lynch followers, who are guaranteed to enjoy Silencio’s surreal nightlife.

Jurassic Park 4 still a possibilty!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Steven Spielberg has dinosaurs back on the brain lately. In addition to the impending launch of the television series Terra Nova on Fox in the fall, Spielberg has been meeting with screenwriter Mark Protosevich to kick around ideas for how to re-boot the Jurassic Park franchise.

Several years ago, the Oscar-winning director worked with Protosevich on a potential remake of Chan-wook Park's Oldboy that was to star Will Smith. That film ran into rights problems and didn't come to fruition, but Spielberg, who directed the first two Jurassic Park films and was an executive producer on the third, has since met twice with Protosevich to fashion a story for a potential fourth film in the franchise.

Both Universal, which released the trilogy, and Spielberg's camp stress that no one has been engaged to write a script and that the discussions have been purely exploratory. But the idea is kind of a no-brainer.

The franchise, born of the late Michael Crichton's 1990 novel, has been in stuck in amber since 2001, when Joe Johnston directed Jurassic Park III from a script by Peter Buchman, Jim Taylor and Alexander Payne. That last entry signaled the series' fading fortunes, as it grossed just $369 million worldwide -- Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park grossed $915 million and $619 million, respectively.

Spielberg's original 1993 film adaptation, which came on the heels of James Cameron's groundbreaking Terminator 2: Judgment Day, greatly advanced CGI technology (courtesy of ILM) in its depiction of colossal dinosaurs re-animated in the modern day. With the recent rebirth of 3D and soaring improvements in digital design marshaled by everyone from Cameron to Pixar, Jurassic Park is ripe for evolution into a 21st century phenomenon.

Please make a fourth one! Also, I read the books and they were pretty good. I liked them.

In 2008, Jake Fior received a phone call from a woman he didn't know. "Her voice was a sort of husky velvet," says Fior. "She said her name was Robin Whitehead and she wanted to speak to me as she was making a film about Pete Doherty. I said, 'Oh dear, that's bad luck.' She laughed, and it started from there."

Fior hadn't been joking. The musician and bookseller, now 47, had known the Libertines' singer since 2001. Fior had rewritten and produced Doherty's first top 10 hit, "For Lovers", but by 2005 he'd "had enough of all this chaos in my life", as Doherty's drug-fuelled lifestyle took its toll on everybody around him. Fior returned in 2008, to try to record a solo album with Doherty, before walking away for good.

What do you think, ONTD? On the one hand I don't think it's right to vilify drug addicts, and this guy sounds faintly full of shit at times, but on the other hand this is Pete Doherty we're talking about.
