The Good Wife creators tease next three Episodes and changes for season 3

Creators Robert and Michelle King have experienced critical acclaim that, as of late, has been reserved for ambitious cable fare, but the serialized CBS drama -- which returns for the last three episodes of its sophomore season on Tuesday -- seems to be the exception to the rule. But even with critical raves, the hourlong series, toplined by TV veteran Julianna Margulies as the regal "good wife" Alicia to the scandal-plagued politican Peter, the network has yet to officially pick up the solid ratings performer for a third season.

With signs pointing to a renewal, thanks to regular Alan Cumming closing a three-year deal with the studio to remain through a fifth round, the Kings are of course, cautiously optimistic. Even so, changes are bound to take place next year if and when the official announcement comes. Robert and Michelle King spoke to The Hollywood Reporter to discuss what the future holds days after filming wrapped on the New York-based production -- and how the Kalinda-Peter bombshell will affect the series going forward.

The Hollywood Reporter: Will the upcoming finale end on a cliffhanger like last season?

Taylor Swift, Ashley Greene Talk Serious Met Gala Dress Prep

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Getting glammed up in a designer gown and heading off to Vogue‘s Met Costume Institute Gala sounds like a girl’s dream come true. But it’s not all couture and Cartier: some serious prep work goes into getting ready for such a fashion-forward event.

Ashley Greene, wearing a blush tulle Donna Karan gown made just for her, was a prime example. “I had to do some strength training to wear it,” she joked to reporters on the red carpet last night, her mermaid train flowing gracefully behind her. “I saw it and was kind of like, ‘Anything is worth it to wear this dress.’”

Meanwhile, pal Taylor Swift, who had to do a bit of maneuvering in order to share a hug with the Twilight star, said her dress was low maintenance — and not even itchy. “I’m comfortable,” she boasted of her fitted J. Mendel creation, adding, “It’s a little difficult with the train. But I’ve experienced worse.” While walking wasn’t a huge problem for the country star, it was getting to New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art that proved to be a bit of a challenge. “The car ride over here was interesting,” she admitted. “You have to lay down on the seat and take the train and crumple it up on your lap.” Just as long as you emerge wrinkle-free!

Abigail Breslin: My Friends Didn’t Recognize Me as a Blonde

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Four years ago at the Oscars, Abigail Breslin was America’s beloved Little Miss Sunshine. But on Wednesday, with long blonde tresses, the teen looked all grown up on her way into a Vanity Fair Tribeca Film Festival bash. Breslin was recently asked to go from red to blonde for her role in New Year’s Eve, where she shares the screen with Sarah Jessica Parker. And luckily, the young actress seems to like the change. “Yes, I am enjoying it. It’s kind of fun,” she told PEOPLE while arriving at the party. “It’s different, because I was so dark before.” In fact, Breslin’s dye job was so drastic, she practically looked like a different person to some. “My friends didn’t even say ‘hello’ to me,” she continued. Then “they’d [say], ‘Oh, you have blonde hair now?’ I guess people are kind of taken off guard by it.” Though the starlet is growing into new roles, not to mention growing up — she turned 15 earlier this month — she says her years in show business aren’t wearing her down just yet. She joked, “I feel the same age.”

Jessie J wants to be as big as Gaga

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Jessie J "won't sleep" until she's as successful as Lady Gaga.

The 'Price Tag' hitmaker explained she won't feel happy with her career until she can feel comfortable around the likes of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna.

She said: "I want to sit there with the Katy Perrys and the Gagas and the Rihannas and feel comfortable. I don’t want to be the British chick who tried to make it and didn't. I'm not going to sleep until that happens!"

Jessie also admitted she is hoping to take her music all around the world, and is prepared to work her "butt off" to fly the flag for British artists.

She added: "I'm basically trying to release music the whole way around the world at one time. It's crazy to know I can take my music to the US as well as the UK and Japan and Australia.

"I want to fly the flag around the world. I think the UK deserves someone who will work their butt off and go out there and go for it."

GLAAD asks Fox channel in Houston for apology after 'extremist' report on gay characters on 'Glee'

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has asked a Fox affiliate in Houston for a formal apology after their news broadcast aired a segment criticizing Glee‘s portrayal of gay teens.

Last week, Glee aired a special 90-minute episode inspired by Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” and devoted to teaching the series’ characters to celebrate what makes them unique. After the broadcast, Houston Fox affiliate KRIV-26 aired a segment called “Is TV Too Gay?” which focused on whether or not shows like Glee “delve too much into homosexual relationships.”

One of the panelists, Bryan Fischer from the American Family Association, reprimanded Glee for portraying homosexuality which, in his words, “is conduct that bears enormous psychological and physical risk to those that engage in it.”

GLAAD says that the channel has yet to issue a formal apology, and claims KRIV-26 initially seemed remorseful about the segment but now stands behind it.

Charlie Sheen: 'Kelly Preston shot herself'

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Charlie Sheen has denied being responsible for shooting ex-fiancée Kelly Preston in 1990.

TMZ reports that during the Vancouver show of his "My Violent Torpedo of Truth" tour, the former Two and a Half Men actor claimed that it was Preston herself who caused the injury.

Recalling the incident, Sheen revealed that he was in another room of the house when he heard the gunshot and was then met by "a naked Kelly Preston at the top of the stairs, covered in blood".

According to his version of the events, Preston accidentally dropped a pistol which was hidden in a pair of Sheen's pants while in the couple's bathroom, causing it to discharge and hit the toilet. He went on to say that she was hit by shrapnel or a piece of porcelain.

Sheen added that he was prepared to accept blame for the incident when it happened.

Preston recently praised Sheen, describing him as a "great man".

Katy Perry on Her Religious Childhood, Her Career, and Her Marriage to Russell Brand

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
“My career is like an artichoke,” Katy Perry tells Vanity Fair contributing editor Lisa Robinson. “People might think that the leaves are tasty and buttered up and delicious, and they don’t even know that there’s something magical hidden at the base of it. There’s a whole other side [of me] that people didn’t know existed.”

Perry, who tells Robinson that she wants her ashes shot out over the Santa Barbara coast in a firework, reveals that one side of her she has definitively left behind is her born-again upbringing. “I didn’t have a childhood,” she says, adding that her mother never read her any books except the Bible, and that she wasn’t allowed to say “deviled eggs” or “Dirt Devil.” Perry wasn’t even allowed to listen to secular music and relied on friends to sneak her CDs. “Growing up, seeing Planned Parenthood, it was considered like the abortion clinic,” she tells Robinson. “I was always scared I was going to get bombed when I was there…. I didn’t know it was more than that, that it was for women and their needs. I didn’t have insurance, so I went there and I learned about birth control.”

Britney Spears is Not a Corporate Puppet

Songwriter Savan Kotecha has denied allegations that Britney Spears is a corporate puppet.

Last month a former friend of the 'Till The World Ends' popstar branded her a "puppet", stating that she just does as she is told and has no creative input where her career is concerned.

When asked if the allegations are accurate, Kotecha, who recently penned two tracks for Spears's album Femme Fatale, told Digital Spy: "No. I think these big artists don't get where they are unless them and their team are running the show. Simple as that."

One of the tracks the songwriter wrote for Spears's album, titled 'I Wanna Go', has been widely praised and is regarded as a fan favorite.

Speaking about whether label bosses are lining the track up to be a future single, he explained: "I've had no official word, but I think it's likely down the line that it will be. I definitely know that the label saw the reaction. I hope so, but don't quote me on that as I don't have the authority on it! It's been fun to see people's reaction because we wrote that track a year and a half ago and it was always mine [and producers] Max Martin and Shellman's favorite."

Britney Spears's Femme Fatale recently gained platinum status in the US.

Charlotte Gainsbourg to Release Double Album This Fall

The French actress and chanteuse releases a split 7″ with Villagers in anticipation of a double album.

Charlotte Gainsbourg stays busy, while zigging and zagging creatively.

When I spoke to her last year for an interview with Death and Taxes, the Guillaume Apollinaire-loving actress an chanteuse had just finished rounds of publicity for Lars Von Trier’s provocative Gothic film “Antichrist,” and was presently publicizing “IRM,” a collaboration with Beck which displayed what is most likely her best work musically (and Beck’s, for that matter).

Now Gainsbourg is once again in the vapor trail of a Von Trier film—this time the fantastic looking science fiction “Melancholia“—and about to release a double album “Live and Unreleased.” The latter will appear this fall on the record label Because. The album apparently is a collection of unreleased tracks and will be accompanied by a DVD documentary.

In anticipation of “Live and Unreleased,” Gainsbourg will be releasing a split 7″ with the band Villagers. Her contribution, the track “Memoir,” is a pretty folk song that contains both French and American influences.

Sad Decemberists News, Will Still Tour.

A note from Colin Meloy:

About a month ago, we all at Decemberists HQ got hit with some pretty hard news. Jenny Conlee, our since-the-very-beginning accordion and keyboard player and all-around rad person was diagnosed with breast cancer. If you or anyone in your world has been handed a similar diagnosis, you know what a bolt-out-of-the-blue this news can be.

The good news is that Jenny caught it early. And while the prognosis is very, very good for a full recovery, tackling the disease will mean some intensive treatment for our Jenny as well as a lot of important recovery time.

So I’m writing this to say that, weighing our options, and with Jenny’s fervent blessings, we’ve decided to go forward with our scheduled tour dates this spring and summer.

What we know now: Jenny will very likely miss all nine of our concerts in May and June. We're all hoping that her recovery will be such that she'll be able to get back on board as soon as possible.

It doesn’t sound like Sarah is too excited about Game Change – she told Fox News’ Sean Hannity in March: “I think I’ll just grit my teeth and bear whatever comes what may with that movie.”

Kate Hudson talks about her engagement and "good luck" movie

Kate Hudson has been in the news for all the right reasons lately, from her pregnancy to her engagement, and the star chatted about all of the above with ET's Samantha Harris at the 'Something Borrowed' premiere on Tuesday night.

"I popped at about five and a half months, that's when I really started showing," said Hudson.

Rumors of Hudson's pregnancy started swirling in January and the actress announced her engagement to boyfriend Matt Bellamy April 27 during a "Today" show taping with Matt Lauer.

"It just wasn't on my list of things I needed in my life, but when he asked, it definitely felt right," Hudson said of her engagement that she called a "shock.

Goodwin joked that she had to put a rain check on the real celebration surrounding Hudson's engagement saying, "We did not toast over drinks because she's pregnant but we will later."

"Is there anybody more adorable pregnant than [Kate Hudson]?" said John Krasinski. "She makes it look good."

Mariah Carey reveals twins' names!

Their son is named Moroccan Scott Cannon, with the nickname "Roc". Scott is Nick’s middle name, as well as his grandmother’s maiden name.

The top tier of Mariah’s New York City apartment is called the Moroccan Room, because of the Moroccan-inspired decor. It’s also the place where Nick proposed to his wife, overlooking Manhattan!

Their daughter’s name is Monroe Cannon. Mariah's rep says she does not have a middle name because Mariah herself does not have one. Monroe was named after Marilyn Monroe, who has been an inspiration to Mariah her whole life.

In fact, Mariah purchased the Hollywood icon’s white piano from Christie's auction house and it is in Mariah’s will that the piano will one day go to the Smithsonian.

Mariah’s rep, Cindi Berger, tells CNN, “It has been a long, emotional journey for this family, and I couldn’t be happier for all of them.”

Jesse James: How I Confessed Affair to Sandra Bullock

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Now the world knows.

When news broke in March 2010 that Jesse James had cheated on Sandra Bullock, fans wondered how the beloved Oscar-winning actress learned of her husband's betrayal.

In his new memoir, "American Outlaw" (excerpted on RadarOnline), the motorcycle mogul, 42, reveals intimate details on perhaps the hardest conversation ever in their nearly six-year marriage (which officially ended last June).

James writes that he first got a call from Bullock's publicist warning that his mistress, tattoo model Michelle "Bombshell" McGee, had sold her story of their affair to a tabloid.

Coming clean during a conversation with Bullock, 46, in his West Coast Choppers office, "I admitted the affair," James writes. "I told her the hard details. I let her know that I had never loved this woman, that I had never cared for her at all."

What came next was devastating, he says. "The feeling of shame and sadness that washed over me as Sandy began to cry was almost beyond measure. ... I didn't touch her. I sat frozen in my chair, watching, as Sandy's small body shook with sobs."

Once the confession was over, a distraught Bullock then "rose to her feet. She unfolded her sunglasses and put them on her face. ... She walked steadily and purposefully to the front of the shop, opened the heavy, metal door. For a moment, the sunlight enveloped her. The door closed behind her, and she was gone," James writes.

How did James — now engaged to Kat von D, who is set to be his fourth wife — explain his then-wife's absence to his youngest daughter Sunny, 7, with whom Bullock was close?

"I chew my lip as I consider my answer. Well, sweetie, the truth is, I have no idea. Daddy [messed] up, real, real bad, so your stepmommy decided to disappear for a few weeks," James writes.

Cameron Diaz: Marriage Is a Dying Institution

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Don't expect to see an engagement ring on Cameron Diaz's finger anytime soon.

The 38-year-old Bad Teacher star tells Maxim's June issue that marriage is a dying institution. "I think we have to make our own rules," she explains. "I don't think we should live our lives in relationships based off old traditions that don't suit our world any longer."

Despite her fear of settling down, Diaz -- who's dated everyone from Justin Timberlake and Jared Leto to current beau Alex Rodriguez -- still believes in love.

"I love men more than anything. I want all men to be happy and have rad women in their lives," the blonde bombshell says. "But guys need women who challenge them and don't let them get away with their s**t. Women, conversely, need to not be crazy bitches who blow up when their guys tell them something that scares them."

When asked about her relationship with Rodriguez, however, Diaz is notably less candid. "It's really awesome," she says. "I love baseball!"

Flixster, Rotten Tomatoes acquired by Warner Bros

This is an interesting turn of events, and one that appears to create conflict of interest.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group has acquired Flixster, which is calling itself a “movie discovery application company” (though I’m unsure what that means) which reports more than 25 million worldwide users per month.

Part of the acquisition, though, includes Rotten Tomatoes, a very popular Web site that – among other things – aggregates review links from the world’s top critics.

A release claims, “Under the terms of the deal, Flixster will continue to operate independently and will expand its services beyond movie discovery to enable digital content ownership and delivery across any connected digital device.”

But it’s the “operate independently” that trips me up a bit. Do we honestly believe that a site owned by an arm of a major studio will not play favorite with that studio’s product? Can we expect a heavier dose of WB promotion on RT? And will it matter to viewers?

Warner’s focus, though, appears to be in the realm of digital ownership, where Flixster has a strong presence on Android, Blackberry and the iPad.

“Driving the growth of digital ownership is a central, strategic focus for Warner Bros.,” said Kevin Tsujihara, President, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group and Office of the President, Warner Bros. Entertainment. “The acquisition of Flixster will allow us to advance that strategy and promote initiatives that will help grow digital ownership.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group recently became the first studio to distribute films directly to consumers via apps on Apple’s iOS platform and Facebook.

I'm not sure how I feel about that tbh. Rotten Tomatoes is kinda losing all credibility :/

Osama Bin Laden was a very bad guy/He hurt many people, don't ask me why/We shot him in the head and now he is dead/Now close your eyes and go to bed

Liv Tyler: My Dad Steals My Clothes!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Liv Tyler may be impressed with her father’s American Idol judging skills, but as it turns out, dad Steven Tyler is actually the one looking up to his daughter for fashion advice! Liv tells that it’s no surprise she approves of her father’s sense of style, because he often draws fashion inspiration straight from her wardrobe. “My dad wears girls’ clothes — it’s so funny,” she shares. “Sometimes I see him and I’m like, ‘Nice shirt!,’ because it’s from my closet.” But regardless of his often-questionable clothes, his proud daughter loves him just the way he is. “I think he’s really handsome. I feel really proud of him,” she says. “I think he’s a really amazing, magical man and all those funny things that he says that people find so strange, my whole life I’ve been hearing them and they make me laugh. And I speak his language; I understand what he’s talking about.”

Tell us: Would you let your dad raid your closet?

Shania Twain not only lost husband, but also voice

Country singer Shania Twain said on Tuesday that she was so shattered by the collapse of her marriage that she feared she would never sing again.

In her first TV interview in five years, Twain told Oprah Winfrey that she became "an emotional mess" when she found out in 2008 that her best friend and her husband had fallen for each other.

Rihanna: Who Doesn’t Enjoy Being Single!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Rihanna knows that living well is the best revenge. The pop star flew solo at the DKMS 5th Annual Gala in New York City, and it seemed like she couldn’t be happier. When In Touch asked Rihanna, 23, how she enjoys being single now, she smiled, “Who doesn’t enjoy being single!”

While her infamous ex, Chris Brown, 21, still seems to have rage issues, as illustrated during his tantrum backstage at Good Morning America in March, Rihanna seems completely happy and at peace. What keeps her calm and centered in her chaotic world? “Good friends. Good people around you,” Rihanna tells In Touch. “That’s very important.”

Rihanna’s friend, supermodel Iman, agrees. “I think she’s a very strong girl. I’ve met her parents and her whole family and she has a caring family. That helps!”

In Touch asked Rihanna, who is sporting a gorgeous new red hairdo, why she chose the shocking hue, since she’s put all the drama behind her? “Because red is bad-ass!” Rihanna laughed.

A badass hair color for a badass gal. How appropriate!

Can 'Parks and Recreation' finally win Amy Poehler an Emmy?

Now in its third season, "Parks and Recreation" is poised to be a major Emmy contender and star Amy Poehler is pumped. "I'm really hoping the show, in all of its different pieces, gets recognized this year," she tells GoldDerby senior editors Chris Beachum and Rob Licuria in this webcam chat, citing the quality of writing and performances. "I think we've got the best cast on TV."

While Entertainment Weekly has hailed the show as "brilliant," it fared poorly at last year's Emmys with only one nomination -- for Poehler as Best Comedy Actress; she lost to Edie Falco ("Nurse Jackie"). But things are looking up, including TV Nielsens. "Parks and Recreation" was just renewed for a fourth season and it's been picked up in syndication.

Natalia Kills interview for NEXT Magazine + scans

As if her name weren’t a giveaway, Natalia Kills isn’t afraid to get dark. The British singer-songwriter, who most recently made gay waves with her heavily remixed track, “Mirrors” and after opening for Robyn on her recent U.S. tour, is readying for the release of her debut album, Perfectionist (now available in Europe). After posing for contributing photographer Santiago Felipe in our studio, we chatted with Kills about her career, comparisons to other pop stars, her style and why the gays love it when she sings about dark shit.

So how was it playing Radio City Music Hall when you opened for Robyn?
I’ve actually been a fan of Robyn for years, so it was really nice to actually see her concert every night. It was fantastic.

Would you say she’s an inspiration of yours?
I definitely admire all her work. It’s really nice to meet another artist that writes all their own material. The songs she writes are from her personal experience and her opinion, and that’s kind of the standpoint that I take. It’s really refreshing to meet another artist like that, especially one who’s so accomplished, that I can kind of watch [their] career over the years.

Tamar Braxton: On Living in Toni’s Shadow, Gold-Digger Accusations and Plastic Surgery

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Starring on a reality show heightens anyone’s exposure. Are you ready to be in the music spotlight?
(Laughs) That’s not even the question… I am 100% ready! What the show has done, unfortunately, is made everyone believe that Tamar on TV is all that I am. They think there’s no difference and that there aren’t other sides to me.

So can we expect you to fly solo in the reality TV world?
I can’t predict the future, but right now I’m enjoying the time that me and my sisters are spending relearning each other as adults. I had to learn I can’t be popping off at no grown women (laughs). Although we grew up together, the reality is that each of us is into different things—some of us have families, careers—and we have to respect everyone’s decisions, even if you know it might not be the right move for them, you simply have to respect it.

'Gossip Girl' Taylor Momsen Next to Test the Playboy Effect?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
The little girl who played Cindy Lou Who in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is now grown up - sort of. Taylor Momsen, who began her career at an early age, has made quite the life for herself, appearing in movies like "Spy Kids 2" and "Hansel & Gretel," and the television show, "Gossip Girl."

The young actress became the gossip of "Gossip Girl" when she left the show after a couple years to pursue her real dream - music. Her band, The Pretty Reckless, a perfect name for the now wild rocker, has made headlines both on and off the music scene.

Music has been a huge role in Momsen's life; she's been writing and recording songs since she was a child. One song, a tune she penned when she was eight, later was recorded by Heidi Montag. Momsen said, in an interview with Parade magazine, "that acting is easy and is something she's done her whole life while music is a chance where she can be herself."

The Real Taylor?

Are we witnessing Taylor Momsen being herself?
In 2009, Momsen's attire became slightly trashy and inappropriate for an underage girl. However, her biggest faux pas was when she flashed a crowd at a live concert in October 2010. The reason why this news was historic was because Momsen was, and still is, under 18. The stills were a search engine gold mine.

Fox Plans 3D 'Glee' Film With Original Cast

20th Century Fox TV and film divisions have partnered to produce GLEE LIVE! 3D!, a feature film based on the Glee Live! In Concert! North American tour. The studio plans to release the film for a two-week engagement starting August 12. Gleeks who were unable to get tickets will be able to catch the concert in 3D. The tour starred 14 members of the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning TV show, and the film will also feature behind the scenes moments. The feature will be directed by Fame helmer Kevin Tancharoen.

Given the rabid following that Ryan Murphy's show has, this seems like as good as a cash machine for the studio. It worked for Sony on the Michael Jackson documentary This Is It! (whose limited run was extended, something that always seems to happen), and Paramount cleaned up with the Justin Bieber documentary Never Say Never.

The film features performances by series regulars Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Mark Salling, Dianna Agron, Naya Rivera, Heather Morris, Harry Shum Jr, Chord Overstreet, Darren Criss, Ashley Fink. The concert tour finishes June 18 in Uniondale, New York before moving on to the United Kingdom.

Trailer for "Martha Marcy May Marlene" starring Elizabeth Olsen

Yes, she's MKA's little sister

Sundance 2011 seemed to be the year of the woman. Brit Marling walked away with a double whammy of attention for “Another Earth” and “Sound of My Voice” while Elizabeth Olsen earned breakout sensation status for her turn in “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” and for most of us getting our first look now, it seems pretty clear why.

Olsen leads the film in the role of Martha, a young woman haunted by painful memories and increasing paranoia who struggles to reassimilate with her family after fleeing a cult. The film seems exist in a state somewhere between dream and reality and writer/director Sean Durkin has lensed this thing beautifully. The cast is rounded by Sarah Paulson, Hugh Dancy and a creepy-as-fuck John Hawkes. The trailer itself is wickedly compelling and haunting, Olsen looks be a solid anchor for the pic and the reliable word from our man at Sundance is that it’s a stunner.

“Martha Marcy May Marlene” will compete in the Un Certain Regard category at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival and will hit theaters on October 7th. Check out the trailer below (or in HD at Apple).

Season 3 is set to premiere July 5, and MTV picked up Season 4 already!!!

Oh, jeez, time to grab the Kleenex: MTV announced Wednesday that we can expect a third and fourth season of Teen Mom — starring the original foursome, Amber, Catelynn, Farrah, and Maci. (Season 3 is set to premiere July 5.) The news gives me conflicted feelings: Not only has the show proven to be a beneficial program for young teens that need to learn about pregnancy and safe sex, but I’ve also been eager to find out how the original foursome has been faring since season 2 wrapped. On the other hand, thanks to the tabloids, we are a little too familiar with what the teen moms have been up to — and additional seasons of the series might just put them back in the spotlight. And if you’re young and impressionable — remember, these girls are teenagers — perhaps it’s best to stay far, far away from the spotlight.

Scott Mann Hired to Direct SEVEN SAMURAI Remake for The Weinstein Company

Remaking Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai is an exercise in futility* but so is railing against remakes.  They’re going to happen, and they’re probably not going to be as good as the original, but you’ll always have that original.  The Weinstein Company is remaking Seven Samurai but that doesn’t mean Harvey Weinstein is coming to my house and confiscating my Criterion Collection Blu-ray.  Variety reports that the studio has hired Scott Mann to helm the remake (written by Young Guns screenwriter John Fusco).  The new Seven Samurai will have a $60 million budget, reset the action from feudal Japan to modern-day Thailand, and replace the samurai with paramilitary contractors.  It’s a smart update because as we all know, the age of the paramilitary contractor is coming to an end and those mercenaries who work for companies like Blackwater are truly noble and tragic figures.

Mann’s been receiving some attention for his recent film The Tournament, but The Playlist says the flick is “pretty turgid overall.”  For those who’ve never seen Seven Samurai, I’ve included a synopsis for the film after the jump, but I want you to promise me you’ll see the movie ASAP.  Deal?

Paul W.S. Anderson to Direct Volcanic Disaster Flick POMPEII

Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil: Afterlife) has signed on to direct Pompeii, an disaster film set in ancient Rome as Mt. Vesuvius erupts and destroys the titular city.  The vaguely Romanic Constantin Filmwill finance a reportedly large budget as scripted by Lee Batchler and Janet Scott Batchler (Batman Forever). Summit will distribute the film in America with plans to auction off Pompeii to foreign buyers at the Cannes Film Festival later this month.  Pompeii reunites Summit, Constantin, and Anderson after The Three Musketeers.  Anderson is in post-production on Musketeers preparing for release on October 14.  Sources suggest Pompeii will shoot in spring 2012.

Hit the jump more details on the plot.

THR provides a synopsis:

Set in late summer 79 A.D., Pompeii revolves around the slave of a shipping tycoon who dreams of the day he can buy his freedom and marry his master’s daughter. What the slave doesn’t know is that she’s already been promised to a corrupt Roman senator, while he’s been sold to another owner.

Just when things can’t get any worse, Mt. Vesuvius erupts with the power of 40 nuclear bombs. But the slave is trapped on a ship headed for Naples, separated from his love and best friend, a gladiator who is trapped in the city’s coliseum. As fire and ash destroy the only world he’s ever known, the slave is determined to get back and rescue them.

Of the thousands that died in the explosion, several hundred left their shape in the volcanic deposits around the city.  During excavation, it was discovered that filling these cavities with plaster revealed human casts so detailed that the look of terror is evident on many.  Thus creating the world’s most disturbing tourist attraction.

Hugh Jackman May Reteam with Shawn Levy for FANTASTIC VOYAGE Remake

It looks like Hugh Jackman may be reteaming with his Real Steel director Shawn Levy quite soon. Apparently Jackman is Levy’s first choice to star in his James Cameron-produced 3D remake of Fantastic Voyage. If you missed the 1966 version, the story centers on a group of scientists who shrink themselves in order to enter a colleague’s body and save him from a blood clot. Deadline reports that Jackman and Levy got along “famously” when filming Real Steel, and Jackman now has an opening in his schedule with The Wolverine now scrambling to find a director post-Darren Aronofsky’s departure.

A new draft of the script, by Shane Salerno (Shaft) and Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) is expected soon, with the tone of the film now including a “dramatic love story,” so it sounds like movement on the project is picking up quickly. Jackman isn’t locked into the role yet, and no offer has been made, but it does look like Levy has settled on a favorite. Real Steel is set to hit theaters on October 11th.

Adrien Brody eyes music career, reads Bukowski and Biggie lyrics at a poetry reading

Adrien Brody Pictures, Images and Photos

Adrien Brody wants to become a singer!

The actor — who sings in his new Stella Artois commercial — told the New York Daily News that “some day” he’d like to record an album that “would speak to “all of the influences” in his life.

Brody, 38, recently insisted he doesn’t worry about growing older because he feels happier and more youthful now than he was in his “angst-ridden” 20s.

“You go through different phases and points in your life and that’s interesting. Someone may turn 40 and be thrilled to be out of their 30s, you know, but I don’t think about it a lot,” he said.

“I feel younger than I did years ago. I have a better sense of myself and what I’m willing to accept in personal and business relationships. That can only come with age, so I value the toll those years have taken on me for the positive aspects they’ve brought. I wouldn’t want to relive the drama of my early 20s because those were very angst-ridden.”

Comfort Cold as Dead: Osama bin Laden Meets His Demise

Upon hearing of the death of Osama Bin Laden and the eloquent speech by the president that followed, I could only think of the Bush administration.

It was President Bush who said of Bin Laden, “I just don’t spend that much time on him, to be honest with you.” It was obvious that he was telling the truth. Bush had the most powerful military force and capable intelligence agencies at his command and a lot of years to get it done, but he couldn’t or wouldn’t. One thing is for sure—he didn’t.

It was the Bush administration whose members in August 2001 were well aware of a Presidential Daily Briefing that should have had them on the move. The now famous P.D.B. seems to have faded from the memory. The Bush administration could have done something but they didn’t. As to why, for many, that question has not been answered in any responsible or satisfactory manner. I am still more angry about that than I will ever be glad that some shriveled-up terrorist was killed in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Sam Claflin Grabs 'Snow White' Prince Role

Sam Claflin has signed to star in the upcoming fairy tale adaptation Snow White and the Huntsman.

Both Viggo Mortensen and Hugh Jackman have previously been attached to the role, though both stars later dropped out.

Production on Snow White and the Huntsman is scheduled to begin later this year.

Bane's daddy says stuff about Nolan!Bane, Tom Hardy's head shines brighter than the sun.

I found it kind of odd that no one has asked Bane Co-Creator Chuck Dixon his thoughts on the casting, the writer certainly does deserve much credit for making Bane such a popular bat-villain. Having a friendship with him on Facebook I asked his opinion on the casting of famous Batman creation Bane.

Q: "How do you feel about Tom Hardy being cast as Bane in the 3rd Christopher Nolan Batman Film?"
A: "I feel pretty good about it. Since an actor will be portraying him rather than a wrestler. He'll get more screen time and possibly be closer to the guy Graham and I created."

This certainly gives me a warm feeling knowing that Mr. Dixon allowed me to write this article, and with his opinion on the casting I certainly hope this allows many Bane and Batman fans to turn the other cheek and respect Christopher Nolan's casting choice.

Thank you all for reading, many thanks granted to Mr. Chuck Dixon for permission to use his quote for the story.

Patti Smith to Receive Polar Music Prize, Sweden's Highest Music Honour

Patti Smith will be awarded Sweden's highest music honour, the Polar Music Prize, at a ceremony in August this year.

"Patti Smith has demonstrated how much rock 'n' roll there is in poetry and how much poetry there is in rock 'n' roll," said the prize committee at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music (via BBC). "She has transformed the way an entire generation looks, thinks and dreams."

Many defend Smith's role as the first female punk, having struck the 1970s punk movement with her debut album 'Horses.' In recent years the artist has seen further recognition for her cultural role, with a 2007 induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French Minister of Culture in 2005.

King Carl XVI Gustaf will present the one million kronor ($164,800/£100,000) prize to Smith and Grammy-winning chamber musicians Kronos Quartet, continuing the tradition of sharing the award between a pop artist and classical act.
