Saoirse Ronan may play elf in ‘Artemis Fowl’ movie

Saoirse Ronan, who is on screens now playing a teenage assassin in ‘Hanna,’ may be up for a role in the adaptation of ‘Artemis Fowl.’

Eoin Colfer, the author of the Irish teen fantasy novel, revealed last week that he wants the actress to play the role of Captain Holly Short, the first female elf of the highly elite LEPrecon division, kidnapped by Artemis Fowl in the first book of the series.

The Wexford writer co-wrote the script for the film version with Oscar-winning director Jim Sheridan. Miramax, Disney and Tribeca Film are behind the movie.

According to the Independent, news got out in February that Saoirse was meeting with Sheridan about a movie. However, production has been delayed because Hollywood producers are unsure of the format of the movie.

"Jim is in LA, trying to get it unblocked," said Colfer.

We’re not going to review the show just yet after the episodes we saw, although we hope we might give some vague first impressions soon, but we feel compelled to make a special note to highlight just how amazing the opening titles for the show are. Gorgeously produced, innovative, and best of all completely acknowledging the breadth and scale of the setting. And for our money, it’s much cooler than what the pilot script allegedly described, which was simply a raven flying over a map of Westeros from point to point; that was a good idea, but this ... this is inspired.

Neil Patrick Harris' Sweet Family Photo

Actor Neil Patrick Harris spent some down time at home with his family this weekend, Tweeting this pic of his partner David Burtka and their beautiful babies Harper and Gideon, 6 months.

"Relaxing on a Sunday afternoon," the How I Met Your Mother star wrote. "My heart is full of love."

Earlier this week NPH shot down tabloid rumors of an affair, assuring friends and fans online that he and David are doing just fine: "Total bunk, absolute nonsense. Annoying. Thanks for needlessly worrying David. 'Preciate that."

The worst thing to happen to gay people since *redacted* gets a renewal and a spinoff

Logo, MTV Network's gay-themed network, has greenlighted two new series: Sex Rx, about sex addiction, and The A-List: Dallas, a new spinoff of the A-List franchises. Additionally, Logo has renewed its highest-rated series RuPaul's Drag Race, its companion Untucked: RuPaul's Drag Race and The A-List: New York. Also renewed is the NewNowNext Awards, Logo's awards show for the latest in pop culture. The channel's next new series, Setup Squad and Pretty Hurts, premiere April 25 and May 9, respectively. Details on the new series:

Sex Rx (premieres fall 2011): Noted sex addiction specialist, Christopher Donaghue, offers guidance to a sex treatment group in this series that tracks each member’s progress around infidelity, trust issues, relationship intimacy and sexual addiction. Julie Pizzi and Patty Ivins Specht exec produce.

The A-List: Dallas (premieres fall 2011): Deep in the heart of Texas, this cast of socialite scene-making men and women are out to prove their New York counterparts have not cornered the market on having big dreams and bigger dramas. Steven Weinstock and Glenda Hersh exec produce for True Entertainment, the company behind The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

Happy now? Changed the title, but the point still stands.  A-List NY is a terrible show and is bad for the gays.

Mark Salling on Glee set. Hottest frisbee player ever?

Mark Salling is spotted playing a little frisbee golf during a break from filming Glee last week at Cabrillo High School in Long Beach (April 14). What. A. Hunk. Be sure to check out Caught on Set’s Glee page for all the latest on set pics.

Mark’s co-star/ex-girlfriend Naya Rivera was on The Wendy Williams Show last week and admitted that, despite rumors the two were on less than amicable terms with each other (she allegedly keyed his car after the two broke up last year), she still remains good friend with him: “Mark and I were never like a serious thing … I still consider him one of my best friends. He’s like the sweetest guy. I mean, put your hand up if you wouldn’t smooch that mug.”

Needless to say, no one in the audience put their hand up!

Kanye West Slays Coachella

Kanye West said little to the audience for much of his festival closing set. There were no grand guest stars that West brought to the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio. There was little in the way of special effects. Accompanying musicians were there, but they were off to the side. Arrogant, forthright and disarmingly open, West's songs unfold like mini-monologues, and this was a high-concept concert as one-man-show.

As theater, West's Coachella set veered toward tragedy, with a song cycle that began with the artist drunk with power, followed him through heartbreak and concluded with a eulogy. As entertainment, West's set was captivating, a festival performance unlike any other, and one that often showcased the artist and the artist alone on a minimal stage. Though rumors of an all-star set were the talk of Coachella, any guests, be it Rihanna or Jay-Z, would have felt crowded in this set-up.

This was not, in short, the kind of set one typically sees from one of the world's biggest stars. West came to Coachella to work, to do away with any sideshows, and instead to get straight down to business. It was a brave statement -- a take-me-or-leave-me-type assertion with a carefully laid-out set list. This was far from playing it safe, as the Strokes had earlier done with a set that was heavy on past hits.

EXCLUSIVE: Logan Lerman is set to star in The Only Living Boy In New York, an indie that now has Horrible Bosses helmer Seth Gordon attached to direct. A fall production start is eyed. The Allen Loeb-scripted film is a twisted coming-of-age tale in which a young man (Lerman) learns that his overbearing father is having an affair. The son tries to stop it, only to become involved with the woman as well. With advice from a questionable quirky neighbor, the young man learns about love. Lerman, who played the lead in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, next stars as D'Artagnan in Summit's Three Musketeers, and he's about to start production in the lead role of Perks of Being a Wallflower, also for Summit. The Only Living Boy In New York is produced Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa, and John Fogel is executive producer. Lerman's repped by CAA and Lisa Lerman, and CAA is repping the film's North American distribution rights.

OMG, are we finally going to get some Logan movie sex scenes?!

Gary Busey may have been voted off Celebrity Apprentice Sunday night, but that won't keep him from casting his ballot for Donald Trump.

On the Today show Monday, Busey said Trump "would be an absolutely good" president.

"He knows about this country. He knows the situation we're in now," continued Busey. "I have great respect for sitting President Barack Obama. I will not dismiss that."

Busey doesn't have such positive things to say about his teammates on the NBC reality show.

"The team - Backbone - should be called Backstabber," said Busey, "because after the second episode they were out to get me, get me out there."

"My team didn't want me there. My team was not my team. ... I work in a mysterious way. People don't know what I'm thinking or where I'm coming from," he went on.

Rosie O'Donnell Tells Howard Stern She's Moving into Trump's Chicago Penthouse for Oprah

Howard Stern
dropped in for a surprise appearance on
Rosie Radio last week and seamlessly turned the tables, grilling Rosie on her own SiriusXM show.
For the first time, she revealed that due to the time crunch, she will initially tape the show at Oprah’s Harpo studios in Chicago, not New York City as previously reported. When Howard asked where she will be living during weeks of filming she admitted the network is hilariously moving her into the Penthouse suite at Trump Chicago which will certainly be interesting after years of ridiculous public feuding with Donald Trump.

She also tells Howard about the numerous offers she received from major networks to return to daytime TV for the first time since The View. Looks like she was close to signing a deal with NBC when Oprah wooed her to OWN at the last minute. She tells the story of Oprah’s visit to her home which she readily admits was probably a “crazy check” to see just how nuts she is.

Lars Von Trier talks "Melancholia", says Kirsten Dunst "Got off easy"

As we’ve read and witnessed already, thanks to an early trailer, Lars Von Trier‘s latest film, “Melancholia,” is about two sisters who find their relationship challenged as a nearby planet threatens to collide into the Earth. So it’s a sci-fi-tinged picture, but as the trailer evinces it’s also like a wedding-based melodrama—“Margot At The Wedding As We’re All Doomed” or something with shades of Bergman. It looks much more like film about psychological angst, anxiety and human ugliness (natch, it’s Von Trier) that it does an end-of-days apocalyptic film.

Debuting at the Cannes Film Festival in May later this year, this writer isn’t so sure how he felt about that trailer, which seemed to stress the melodrama in drama, but regardless, Empire recently sat down with the Danish enfante terrible to discuss the new film and in doing so unveiled an eerie new picture from the movie with lead actress Kirsten Dunst in full wedding garb, lying down in a pond.

“As you can see in the trailer, Melancholia, [which is the name of] the planet, is kind of ten times bigger than the Earth, and I liked the idea of being ‘swallowed’ by Melancholia,” the director told Empire. “I thought that was quite nice. And then I read today that that’s actually one of the virtues of romanticism – willingly being purified by dying. In fact, the film contains maybe more of the original idea of romanticism. I’m just saying that a lot of films today, their interpretation of romanticism is… quite boring, I think.” More Von Trier thoughts on the film below the jump.

Kelly Osbourne: "I'm always going to have a fat face and a big jaw"

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Q: What do you like most about the new transformed Kelly Osbourne?
KO: I’m not nearly as scared as I was of life. Coming to terms that you’re not perfect and it’s okay is something that is also just comforting. I can’t change who I am. I can’t change where my family are from, what family I come from. There are things about myself I can’t change. People are always like, “No matter how much weight you lose, you’re always going to have a fat face and a big jaw.” And you’re like well, I can’t actually change that so thanks. The stuff that you can’t change about yourself, be okay with it because you have that for a reason. You don’t need to be perfect. There’s such a strive for that in Hollywood that I’ll never understand. I would never, ever want to be the prettiest girl in the room. I don’t want that because it’s so much pressure and people never, ever stop to think is there more than that? You’re just a pretty girl, that is it. I would never want to be that.

Q: Does loving yourself make you nicer to others?
KO: I was never mean to others. I was mean to myself if that makes sense to you. I’ve never really been a mean person. I’ve been an angry person but not mean. I think when you start to live life on life’s terms and appreciate who you really are inside, as cheesy and sad that sounds, things just naturally start to fall in place because they’re happening because they’re meant to be, not because you f***ed up and you’ve got to apologize. It happens because it’s meant to be.

'Glee' Star Matthew Morrison Responds To 'Puddle Of HIV' Comments

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Last week, novelist Bret Easton Ellis made headlines when he posted some disparaging comments about "Glee" on Twitter. The "Rules of Attraction" author wrote, "I like the idea of Glee but why is it that every time I watch an episode I feel like I've stepped into a puddle of HIV?"

He soon followed up his comments by tweeting, "No, I wasn't drunk last night. I was watching Chris Colfer singing, um, 'Le Jazz Hot' and felt like I had suddenly come down with the hivs." The writer added a few days later, "Okay, okay, I get it, I get it. I'll stop riffing on H.I.Glee and tweet about how boring the collected stories of [Irish author/playwright] William Trevor are. Happy?"

Ellis' comments quickly lit up the Internet, and a source close to "Glee" told E! News at the time that those associated with the show felt his remarks were "disgusting."

Penelope Cruz wants Glee cameo

Penelope Cruz has revealed she is a huge fan of Glee and would like to cameo on the show.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star's husband Javier Bardem, is also a big fan of the show and has been in talks with creator Ryan Murphy about appearing on the show, and now Penelope has told Entertainment Weekly she'd like a piece of the action.

She revealed: "It's actually the only thing that I watch on television.

"Gwyneth (Paltrow, who has had her own Glee stint) was amazing. She was so funny and she has such an amazing voice. And once you've done a musical you always want to do it again."

The 36-year-old Oscar winner and trained dancer appeared in the musical Nine in 2009 and would love the chance to perform a song and dance role again either in Glee or on the big screen.

She said: "I would love to do more musicals, in TV or film. Not on Broadway, because I'm not brave enough to do that yet. But I love musicals."

LeAnn Rimes Helps Twitter Follower Put Her Best Foot Forward

Peggy Joyce was in the right place at the right time. So Joyce chimed in. “anything u want to donate to me? From OH and lost job and have a 16 month old. Bad year..I will pay for shipping. Thanks!! XO” After a few Tweets back and forth about logistics, Rimes announced that she’d pulled some items for the struggling mom. “I have a few pair of flip flops for the summer and tennis shoes in your size….hope it helps.”

Joyce, who asked Khloé Kardashian for a similar donation, was obviously touched. “When I get items I will pay it forward somehow to someone in need,” she Tweeted.

Hilary Duff Cites Reason for Constant Hair Changes: Boredom!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
When it comes to her hair, Hilary Duff has been experimenting with the color wheel lately. But the newlywed star — who recently went back to blonde after going brunette (and cutting bangs) — has an explanation for all of the quick changes: boredom. “I was like ‘I’m bored and I like wanted to dye my hair really really blonde,’ and then I got scared — and then it turned out really blonde,” she told PEOPLE at the The Beauty Detox Solution book launch party in West Hollywood on Wednesday. “I haven’t been this blonde and my sister’s like calling me Lizzie [McGuire] which is so funny,” she says, referring to her star-making role on the Disney Channel. “I’m like, ‘No please don’t call me that!’ [But] it might just be that I feel like I’m really blonde because I haven’t been in so long.” While experimenting with her color recently, Duff just couldn’t get it exactly like she wanted it. “I was at the salon two days a week for the past two weeks and it was driving me crazy. But you know when you’re just not happy? You’re like, ‘I need this tweaked and fixed,’ and so it was just me being mental,” she admits. But no matter how “mental” she becomes about her hair color, Duff says hubby Mike Comrie loves her regardless. “He loves me blonde,” she says, “but when we met I had brown hair so I think he loves me anyway.” Lucky gal!

8 Movie Special Effects You Won't Believe Aren't CGI

We mean no disrespect to the digital effects artists working in Hollywood, but sometimes it feels like computer-generated (CG) effects haven't improved in 10 years. Every blockbuster seems to have at least one big effects scene that looks like it was lifted from a PS3.

So maybe we need to stop and appreciate the mind-blowing scenes that were done the old-fashioned way -- with stunts, models and borderline insanity.

The little E’s, T’s and M’s that appear on the covers of video games get there the old-fashioned way: People working for the Entertainment Software Rating Board look at the games, decide how gory, sexy or potty-mouthed they are, and bestow an age-appropriate rating accordingly.

That was then. This is now. Starting on Monday the ratings board plans to begin introducing computers to the job of deciding whether a game is appropriate for Everyone, for Teens or for Mature gamers (meaning older than 16).

Interview With TVs Sexiest Bear, Future Emmy Winner, True Star of Glee, Max Adler

As closeted high school football player Dave Karofsky, Glee's Max Adler has established himself as the poster boy for the hot-button issue of high school bullying. But up until now, he was the poster with a big red line drawn across his face. That may change beginning April 26 when Glee airs its "Born This Way" episode, which promises to be a major turning point for this seriously-conflicted youth. I chatted up Max during his day off, discussing everything from the heartbreaking fan letters he receives to what made him cry in school.

TV Guide Magazine: Chris Colfer (Kurt) has discussed the amount of mail he's received playing the part of a bullied gay kid. What kind of mail have you received as the big bad bully?
Max: I can't tell you how much I get every day from around the world. People who either identified with Karofsky because they were him or were bullied by someone like him. The most touching ones I've received are ones from gay adults who hadn't looked back at being a closeted gay person in high school. This one guy wrote to say he had been disowned by his family and his mother and father hadn't spoken to him in, like, fifteen years. When he saw the "Never Been Kissed" episode [in which Karofsky kisses Kurt], it moved him enough to send it to them, saying, "Watch this; I think you'll understand where I was coming from." And they started talking and actually reunited. They're a family again. The fact that a TV show can do that is so crazy.

TV Guide Magazine: What about fans who have a problem disassociating character from actor? Any folks who have given you a hard time about being so mean to our little Kurty?
Max: Yes. "Leave Kurt alone! Stop being so mean to him!" There's a lot of that.

Henry Rollins' Five Essential Stooges songs

Editor's note: Warning: The web links in this story contain language that some might find offensive.

The first track of the Stooges self-titled 1969 debut album: "That song's really important for me because the lyric and the tune and Ron's playing and Iggy's delivery and the way the rhythm section locks in and flattens it out encapsulates and perfectly captures what a lot of young American males were going through. It captures perfectly boredom, pent-up aggression and the uncertainty of being alive and of draft age in 1969. You're watching people leave your neighborhood and not come home. Wayne Kramer (of the MC5) told me about how you would see your friend from high school, the quarterback, your friend from down the street, he'd go (to Vietnam) and that was it. George R. R. Martin Interview

Based on author George R.R. Martin’s best-selling A Song of Ice and Fire series of books, the HBO epic drama series Game of Thrones is a magnificent and brutal fantasy about two families who are engaged in a deadly battle for power and control. During a recent interview, George R.R. Martin talked about the process of bringing his written words to the screen in a way that he never could have imagined, the experience of turning over his long-time work to the producers of the series (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss), how thrilled he is with what he’s already seen of the final product, his desire to do a cameo at some point, the Twitter battle that started when executive producer Damon Lindelof started when he heard he didn’t like the ending of Lost, and how he hopes to finish the book series before the TV show catches up. Lennon's Former Lover Schools Usher In Old School Dance Off!

Sir Paul McCartney stunned the crowd at the Coachella music festival by joining Afrojack on stage.

The Beatles legend amazed revellers at the Californian festival over the weekend when he popped up at the Dutch house DJ's set in the dance tent and started spinning some tunes in the booth as girlfriend Nancy Shevell looked on.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "It was a weird and once-in-a-lifetime experience. Macca popped up in Afrojack's set and was having it on stage behind the DJ booth. Nancy was standing behind him like a typical house DJ's girl.

"I think a lot of the ravers thought they were seeing things - when word spread around the site, everyone thought it was a wind-up."

Usher later joined Paul on stage and the two had a dance-off in front of thousands of clubbers.

The three day event saw headline sets from Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, Kanye West, who closed the festival last night saying it was the "most important show" he had performed since his mother died suddenly in 2007.

Arcade Fire performed another of the most sought after set sets of the weekend, which culminated with the band releasing hundreds of huge colour changing balls into the audience.

The spectacle was a collaboration with artist Chris Milk called 'Summer Into Dust', part of The Creator's Project, an initiative by Intel and Vice magazine, which paired a number of artists with bands for audio visual presentations over the weekend, including Spiritualized and Jonathan Glazer, Interpol and Animal Collective.

Even Darren Criss is sick of Darren Criss

Glee has been a tremendously fertile musical venue for stars both established (Gwyneth Paltrow, John Stamos) and new (Matthew Morrison’s album is due out next month).

The latest beneficiary of the Glee effect is Darren Criss—a.k.a. gay dreamboat Blaine Anderson—now the undisputed star of the new album Glee: The Music Presents The Warblers.

In a cover story in the new issue of Billboard, Criss talks about the album (which hits stores tomorrow), his projects outside of the show, and the sudden success that has been thrust upon him. “When I look back on Glee and on this album, it’s like I was offered to live in a golden marshmallow house in the sky,” he told the magazine. “It’s like, ‘Sure! I’ll take it!’ I never thought that it would ever happen, that I would get a magical marshmallow castle in the sky, but my God, thank you.”

Criss had already developed something of a reputation before joining the Glee cast last year, as the mastermind behind the viral hit A Very Potter Musical, and also made waves in the musical community with his company StarKid.

According to Criss, he’s still trying to balance everything with the pressure of being the new guy on one of the most feverishly followed shows on TV. Still, he’s carving out a place for himself. “I’m still the new guy, so I don’t want to go around saying, ‘We should do this. We should do that.’ But Ryan [Murphy] is always open to ideas, and I did at one point say, ‘Hey, Neon Trees’ “Animal” is a really great song,’” he explained. “And about a week later it showed up in the script.”

As for a possible upcoming solo album, he says: “We’re working on it—we’re really excited and it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I’m so thrilled that it’s something that can happen because of Glee, and like the Warblers album, I hope I can do it justice and make it something that people can really enjoy.”

And just in case you think the show has gone a little overboard with Blaine in the past few weeks, don’t worry—Criss feels your pain. “They kind of called it out, which I’m glad they did,” he joked. “Blaine definitely had his moment in the sun. I think it’s time to focus back on the characters that fans of the show really know and love … I think we’re focusing a little more back on New Directions and taking a little bit of a break from the Warblers.”

Do you agree, Gleeks? Or is there no such thing as too much Blaine?

LEA MICHELE IS NOT A DIVA!!! Oh, No Wait...Yes, She Is.

A few Glee stars ditched New Directions this weekend and hit Coachella in the desert to watch other people sing for once.

Lea Michele, Chord Overstreet and Harry Shum Jr. all checked out the concerts together from the VIP area Saturday, where one of them was trying to go incognito.

"Harry introduced himself to two girls as Jerry from San Luis Obispo and said he was unemployed," an eyewitness reports. "The girls played along even though they knew who he was."

But when one girl jokingly called "Jerry" over to sit with them later, Lea couldn't resist making fun of her...

"Lea started laughing and imitated her in a high-pitched voice," the onlooker said. "She was totally mocking her for no reason."

Lea was all smiles later while hanging at the Lacoste pool party on Sunday, where Katy Perry, Kellan Lutz and Alexander Skarsgård were also spotted.

Chord and Harry ditched Lea later and caught up with another Gleek at the Armani Exchange Neon Carnival Saturday night. They hit the late night bash with Mark Salling.

Showtime dick slaps Gigolos with a gag order

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Showtime has slapped a gag order on the stars and producers of its provocative new reality show "Gigolos."
The pay-cable channel is keeping a lid on serious legal questions about how it can broadcast what appears to be unlawful prostitution.

The controversial series -- which lists former "21 Jump Street" actor Richard Grieco as a producer -- features five male escorts fulfilling intimate sexual fantasies for female customers in Las Vegas.
"The network is obviously nervous and is not letting anyone talk until things settle down," a production source tells The Post.

In a recent episode, three of the well-chiseled workers rake in $3,000 by servicing a 30-something divorcée as a team.

Your Faves Should Just Quit: Gaga Revs Up for Another Number 1 Debut

Lady Gaga's "Judas" was officially released last Friday and it's already poised to debut at the top of the singles charts this week, reports Billboard magazine.

The second single from Gaga's highly anticipated third album Born This Way leaked four days earlier than planned so Interscope Records, Gaga's label, rush-released the song to iTunes. Her previous single, the title cut from the new album, debuted at the top of the charts in 21 countries and became the fastest-selling single in the history of iTunes.

According to Billboard, "Judas" will need to sell more than 350,000 downloads "in less than two and-a-half days of sales in the week, in order to possibly debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Also playing a role in its initial Hot 100 ranking will be the radio audience impressions 'Judas' will garner through the end of the airplay tracking period which runs through Tuesday (April 19). A fast first week start at radio, similar to 'Born This Way' (78.6 million), would certainly help Gaga's No. 1 cause.

On Saturday, Gaga tweeted the album artwork (pictured) designed by Nick Knight and the Haus of Gaga. It features her head and arms morphing into a motorcycle.

Born This Way is scheduled for release May 23.

"Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" lands director Craig Gillespie

Craig Gillespie, who directed Lars and the Real Girl and the upcoming Fright Night remake, has been tabbed to helm Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, according to Lionsgate. “We are so excited to have Craig on board this film,” Alli Shearmur, Lionsgate president said in a statement. “His sensibility spans from genre bending horror to elegant character driven comedy, which is perfect for this movie. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is precisely the kind of movie I came to Lionsgate to make: sophisticated yet youthful and edgy. Our movie will be all of those things — with zombies — and it will benefit enormously from Craig’s unique perspective.”

I did rather like L&tRG, although it was horribly depressing. I just hope he gets the joke/satire of it all and doesn't try to make just a standard horror movie.

This post is dedicated to the best band in the world (Mumford & Sons @ Coachella)

Marcus Mumford looked like he was going to pass out.
Surveying the tens of thousands of people gathered Saturday to watch his unlikely platinum-selling folk-revival band, rivulets of sweat ran down his temples and his breathing grew heavy. "This is by far the biggest gig we've ever played," he said, haltingly. "We know the significance of this festival, especially in America and California."

Three years ago, I saw Mumford & Sons play around 8 p.m. to maybe 40 people at a Hotel Cafe showcase of London-based folk artists. Their harmonies were moving and their musicality superb, but, truth be told, there wasn't the spark of superstardom in the air.

I'm happy to say I was dead wrong then, because the absolute palms-out rapture that greeted the quartet doesn't come by accident or even a marketing push. Mumford & Sons is a rare kind of band that completely sideswiped trend watchers to become one of the biggest new artists of the past year. And they did it while playing banjos and mandolins and singing about dying in thistle fields -- no small feat.
That sense of "What are we doing here?" seemed palpable on Mumford's face for most of the set. And, in all honestly, he wasn't wrong for feeling it. The band plays delicately-spun acoustic arrangements, with little more than a kick drum for barn-dance propulsion and yearning four-part harmonies. Is that enough to hold a crowd of 60,000? Yes, but for totally opposite reasons. Mumford & Sons, while clearly indebted to old-time revivalist peers like the Incredible String Band, are also just as attuned to the big crescendos of alternative rock and the throat-shredding acoutsic-emo of bands like Bright Eyes (who, fittingly, played just before them). The result is a sturdy batch of songs that sound like something your great-grandparents would listen to, but which act like the drive time fare of KROQ (where the band's singles are in constant and often pleasantly jarring rotation).
Take, for instance, crowd favorite "Little Lion Man," a self-lacerating lover's plea that doesn't even really get its sea legs until after the first chorus. But then, its double-time gallop and always-fun-to-sing profane chorus hits a rare (maybe unprecedented) sweet spot between the kind of kids who swear by pre-"Illinois" Sufjan Stevens and the dudes who put on "Under The Table & Dreaming" when taking that cute Pi Phi back to their dorm. In other words -- credibility plus accessibility plus a funny interplay between orthodoxy and adventurousness equals a huge out-of-left-field success story.
With the added juice of a three-piece horn section, the songs took on a regal, almost religious quality. Mumford's sound draws from very old music, but plays by the rules of today's rock bands. And by the time they closed with "The Cave," the song they played at this year's Grammys just before backing Bob Dylan, every kind of voice was raised to sing a chorus about a lover choking to death. Unexpected, but totally natural in the end. Mumford shouldn't have worried so much.

Have Dan and Blair cured 'Gossip Girl'?

Gossip Girl
's back this week - and for the first time in a while it's actually a pretty exciting prospect. When the show began in 2007 (that long ago!) it was genuinely exciting - full of mysteries, secrets and (relatively) racy scenes to get parents panicking. But no-one could deny that the show was the victim of a slump. Ratings fell and it became a running joke that everyone on the show had slept with everyone else, which was pretty much true. There'd even been a threesome in desperation.

And then Dan and Blair happened. When the whole idea of a Dair relationship was first mentioned, Tube Talk did a fair bit of eye-rolling. This was just the natural extension of that running joke - they were pretty much the only pair who hadn't slept together and the writers were just going for a full set. But the thing is, the pairing was a revelation.

Who knew Dan, who is normally just so beige, (um, rude) could make us excited about the show again? But the truth is, Penn Badgley and Leighton Meester have fabulous chemistry together. The fact that they've not really spent much time together on screen before means that it's surprising to see them flinging witty remarks back and forth. We should probably skip over the fact that they should have spent more time together in the past - it's just a joy to see them as a pair now.

The Good Wife Practically Certain To Be Renewed!!!

The Good Wife Exclusive: Alan Cumming Back for Season 3… and 4… and 5!

This bodes well for newly-elected DA Peter Florrick’s senatorial prospects: Alan Cumming has inked a new three-year deal to continue playing campaign strategist Eli Gold on CBS’ The Good Wife.

Cumming joined Wife in a recurring capacity midway through the show’s first season and was promoted to a series regular at the start of Season 2.

Of course, Cumming’s new deal is contingent on Good Wife being around for three more seasons. CBS has yet to renew the acclaimed drama for a third season, let alone a fourth and a fifth.

aka, if CBS was going to cancel the show they wouldn't bother making these deals, and therefore its pretty much certain to continue!

Could the next season of Bones be shortened? (that is, if there even is a next season of Bones...)

Fox has yet to officially renew Bones for the fall, but any possible Season 7 will likely be “curtailed” as the result of pregnant series lead Emily Deschanel being due to deliver in late summer/early fall.

Noting there are still “a lot of decisions to make” as to how to accommodate Deschanel’s pregnancy – Do they write it in? Shoot around it? — Bones executive producer Hart Hanson said in a Monday conference call, “Season 7 would probably be a curtailed season in some respects; we don’t know how much yet.”

I asked Hanson if he meant that Season 7 would simply start production later? Or would there be fewer episodes? Would Deschanel be MIA in some…? His answer: “All of the above.”

Simon Cowell confirms Mariah Carey joining the X Factor

Slowly but surely, Simon Cowell's star-studded "X Factor" cast is coming together.

Rumors have circulated for months about who will join the ex-"American Idol" man's new British import singing competition, but since the announcement of producer LA Reid as one of the show's three judges, Cowell has gone silent with any confirmations, offering only a shortlist of candidates. He shot down the reports that Mariah Carey was set to be one of the judges, citing her pregnancy, but during a recent radio interview, he admitted that the star would have a role on the show.

"I think Mariah will have a role on the TV live shows," Cowell confirmed to host Jackie Brown. "I met her recently and she was on great form. And her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with. She'll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits."

Carey is eight months pregnant, and recently posed nude for a number of gossip magazines.

Carey makes two confirmed participants for the show, with stars such as ex-"Idol" co-judge Paula Abdul, Jessica Simpson, Nicki Minaj and UK star Cheryl Cole as rumored judges and Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger as a potential host. It's a frustrating situation for fans, but one that Cowell admits is being dragged out on purpose.

"The media have got it because our company leaks any information -- if we meet anybody, the whole world knows about it. But I don't have a problem with that," Cowell told the Huffington Post in March.

Auditions for the show are currently taking place around the country; it begins airing on FOX in September.

Idol Loser Forgets to Dump BF of 4 Years Before Fucking DWTS Dude, Remains Less Talented than Haley

The New York Post is reporting that Toscano didn't bother breaking up with Carlos Nunez, her boyfriend of four years, before she went on a date with Ballas.

A mutual friend of the couple said, "It seems inevitable to anyone with eyes. They hadn't spoken as often as you'd think once she made the final 12. She kind of played a disappearing act."

The friend said they knew the relationship was on the rocks when Nunez flew to Los Angeles to see Toscano's first 'Idol' performance on TV but she could only find a "couple of hours" to be with him.

Nunez was with Toscano's family the day the 22-year-old (holy shit, she is only 22??? note to self: wear sunscreen) singer was surprisingly eliminated from the competition and even comforted her weeping family as they watched the telecast.

On the other hand, Toscano and Ballas were seen on a dinner date at a restaurant a day after her elimination.

Idol Reject Won't Watch Girlfriend's Twilight Movies, In Other News, The Pot Called the Kettle Black

Paul McDonald thinks his new girlfriend, Nikki Reed, is "super cool," but he's not a fan of her work – because he's never watched the Twilight star's films.

"Honestly, I haven't seen any of her movies and know nothing, really, about her work," the American Idol castoff revealed during a recent radio interview on KOST 103.5 FM's morning show.

"She's super cool, man," McDonald, 26, added. "I think she likes me more because I've never seen any of her stuff."

The singer also admitted that when they first met at a movie premiere for Red Riding Hood, he didn't know who Reed, 22, was when she introduced herself on the red carpet.

"She came up to me and was like 'Ah, you're great.' And I was like, 'Awesome, thanks. You're cool, too,' " he said with a laugh of his girlfriend, who plays vampire Rosalie Hale in the popular movie series.

But since that meeting, the two stars have managed to find time to "hang out" despite their busy schedules.

Just don't expect McDonald to rush out and rent his gal's movies. "I'm not watching any Twilight movies," he said. "I'm sorry."

'The Help' Trailer and Stills

'The Help' trailer is out and it seems to have all the charming characteristics that made the book a blockbuster.

Set in Mississippi during the late 1960s, 'The Help' follows Eugenia 'Skeeter' Phelan (Emma Stone) as she returns from college and lands a job writing a column on cleaning in her local paper. Not knowing anything about cleaning, Miss Skeeter must rely on her friend and maid, Aibileen (Viola Davis).

After Aibileen's friend Minny (Octavia Spencer) agrees to help, this collaboration evolves into a full-blown book project with Skeeter attempting to interview the help of her friends and neighbors to tell their side of the story.

Needless to say, we can reasonably expect a delicious payoff in the third act.

Did you tune in for the premiere of HBO's Game of Thrones last night? I was admittedly on the fence about the show, but I couldn't ignore the hype and decided to give it a try — and I'm glad I did. Since the show is based on a series of fantasy novels, I was expecting the first episodes to be bogged down in setting up the premise and introducing the different kingdoms without very much action. As it turns out, the opposite proved to be true, and I have a feeling that after a few more episodes I just might be hooked. Here's why you should give it a chance:

The King of Pop, Chris Brown’s ‘F.A.M.E’ Certified Gold

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Just three weeks after Chris Brown’s comeback effort ‘F.A.M.E’ topped the Billboard 200, it has been announced that the album has been certified Gold.

The album, which has spawned chart smashes ‘Deuces’ and ‘Yeah 3x’, has officially shipped 500,000 copies according to the singer’s label, Jive.

A great feat given Brown’s prior circumstance (as well as the industry’s current sales climate). Yet, a feat made all the more impressive by the LP almost doubling its initial 270,000 opening week figures in such short space of time.

As at writing, ‘F.A.M.E’ sits at #6 on the Bilboard 200, while its latest single ‘She Ain’t You’ ascends on Urban radio.

Platinum, at this point, certainly looks more a case of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’. Go Chris!

Kristen Stewart made a low-key appearance at the party for Robert's Water For Elephants premiere in NYC last night, but there was nothing discreet about the hot kiss they shared when they hopped into their car afterward! She was spotted leaving the bash with Robert, holding onto his arm and wearing a hot dress that was reportedly designed by J. Mendel. Robert, meanwhile, was dashing in his tux, and we even managed to snag a minute with him on the red carpet before the screening began. Robert and Kristen's hot evening out on the town didn't get in the way of him rising early this morning to swing by the Today show. Kate Hudson Says Being Pregnant is Like Being Stoned

Kate Hudson has compared being pregnant to being stoned.

Speaking to Extra, the Little Bit Of Heaven actress, who is already a mom to 7-year-old son Ryder, confessed that while she enjoys being with child, it often leaves her feeling scatterbrained and unable to concentrate.

"Being pregnant is wonderful. You do get the pregnant mush-brain... you know what it's like? It's like getting stoned," she explained.

The 31-year-old recently revealed that she believes she will give birth to a baby girl after undergoing a pendulum test, adding that her intuition also points to her having a daughter.

"It seems like my family female lineage... she's just wild in there, just dancing all over," she said.

Hudson previously confessed to experiencing severe morning sickness during the first trimester of her pregnancy.

Evan Rachel Wood: "I'm Bisexual"

Evan Rachel Wood has the hots for both guys and girls.

In a new interview with Esquire, the 23-year-old Mildred Pierce actress -- who split with fiance Marilyn Manson in August -- reveals that she's bisexual.

"I was always into very androgynous things. Guys, girls...I'm into androgyny in general," Wood explains. In fact, the actress says those qualities were what drew her to Manson in the first place. "I think one of the things that freaked people out so much is that we looked so different."

Wood also added that when she dates women, she tends to take the lead.

"I'm more of like the guy when it comes to girls. I'm the dominant one," she says. "I'm opening the doors, I'm buying dinner. Yeah, I'm romantic."

For now, the True Blood actress -- who's planning to move to New York City -- says she's "up for anything." [I want to] meet a nice guy, [or] a nice girl."

True Blood Concerns, Scary Crash Idle Stephen Moyer's Racing Career

You'll be happy to hear there wasn't so much as a glimpse of diva-like behavior at this weekend's 35th annual Toyota Pro Celebrity Race this weekend. But that doesn't mean one of the NASCAR-channeling celebrity speed demons didn't flip out. Twice.

But it's not what you think—this wasn't any coddle-requiring hissy fit, instead True Blood star Stephen Moyer literally flipped his car multiple times while racing in the qualifying round Friday.

And we're not sure if this speaks more to his driving skills or his competitors' lack thereof, but he nonetheless managed to finish in pole position. Which no doubt was of little comfort to him the following day, when nerves (or maybe just bosses) got the better of him…

After his dramatic rolls—which came after Moyer crashed into a wall on the first turn, and from which, luckily, he emerged unscathed—the star still managed to place first in the practice run, earning him $15,000 for his charity of choice, Racing for Kids. Prison Break/Perfect Storm actor William Fichtner placed second and Kevin Jonas was a close third.

"It was a surreal experience—it felt like a roller coaster ride when my car flipped," Moyer told reporters after the race.

But from the sounds of it, and understandably, his car wasn't the only thing that was sent into a tailspin as a result.

Prior to Saturday's official race, Moyer was forced to withdraw from the charity competition, citing concerns by his cast—included among them, his wife Anna Paquin—for his well-being. To say nothing of his ability to continue working on the show without writers having to shoe horn in a storyline explaining why their leading man is suddenly in a full body cast.

Just a hunch.

"While I'm disappointed I won't be racing today, I know it's in the best interest of my True Blood family," he said. "I look forward to cheering on my fellow racers and following all the race-day action."

A man of his word, Moyer did indeed turn up to watch his fellow competitors battle it out for the win. In his absence, the sudden boost to pole position did wonders for Fichtner, who ended up winning the race with a time of 18:25.109.

So how did the other stars match up? Michael Trucco placed third, behind a pro, followed by Frankie Muniz; Kim Coates placed sixth, followed by Daniel Goddard and Brian Austin Green; Megyn Price rolled in and 11th place, followed by Tito Ortiz; despite his impressive qualifying round, Kevin Jonas fell to 13th place, Djimon Hounsou rolled in at 14th and Jillian Barberie Reynolds played caboose, coming in at 17th and last place.

In exchange for their participation, Toyota will donate $5,000 per racer to Racing for Kids, as well as an additional $5,000 to the Kyle Busch Foundation, the charity of choice for winner Fichtner.

I felt so sorry for him that he had to pull out of the race the next day. He really wanted to do it

Freida Pinto Shoots For 'Trishna' In Mumbai

Indian actress Freida Pinto who shot to worldwide fame after starring in the multi-Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionaire, has been quietly shooting in Mumbai for her next film Trishna.

Although the shooting has been on for one week, the information was kept under wraps.

"We didn't want too much attention while shooting for the film...so it was done guerrilla style and not too many people knew about it," a source from the unit said.

The film is an adaptation of Thomas Hardy's classic novel Tess of d'Urbervilles. It is being directed by Michael Winterbottom and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap, Guneet Monga and Sunil Bohra.

Trishna has been shot in different parts of Rajasthan while some scenes have been shot in Mumbai.

The film also stars British rapper Riz Ahmad, who acted in The Road To Guantanamo, Shifty and Four Lions.

Carrot Top Goes Straight

The depiction seems no joking matter, but Scott Thompson jokes about it anyway. To paraphrase, he looks at a photo of himself with long, waveless hair and says, “I would have sex with her.”

More seriously, he says, “I’m pleasantly shocked. I look really good.”

For a man who has spent decades painstakingly crafting an image known as “Carrot Top,” it was a significant departure of character. For an afternoon and for a photo shoot for the new issue of sister publication Las Vegas Magazine, the Luxor prop comic consented to losing his curly orange locks in favor of a long, straight, more businessman (or, maybe, woman) look for the magazine’s cover. The look was conceived at Luxor Spa.

“Almost every day, someone asks if I ever flat iron my hair,” said Thompson, who has been concerned enough about maintaining his mane that he has consulted a hair-follicle expert (whom he jokes is totally bald). “I say no, because I’m afraid it wouldn’t look good and wouldn’t come back curly.”

The latter issue was of particular importance as Thompson mulled over how to fulfill the promise to appear on the magazine cover with straight hair. He initially offered to permit his hair to be drenched and straightened temporarily for the shoot. But the problem with wet hair is it dries fast under the heat of strobes used in portrait photography.

From recording icons like Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Dolly Parton to au courant trendsetters like Gwen Stefani, Quentin Tarantino and Russell Brand, a veritable who's who of showbiz folk have paraded through the studio, whether to perform or just to give the contestants a little advice.

Well, guess who just showed up to give advice (and maybe boss the top seven around a little bit)?

Oh, just Bruce Springsteen, that's all.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer visited the set Friday to lend his considerable expertise to Casey Abrams, Lauren Alaina, Jacob Lusk, James Durbin, Stefano Langone, Haley Reinhart and Scotty McCreery—and we'll just go ahead and assume that they were blown away.

"Holy pride of New Jersey....BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN in the studio right now listening to the idols sing!!!!" read a tweet posted to the show's official account.

Springsteen's just full of surprises these days!

In September, a New Jersey couple happened to spy the star while they were posing for engagement pictures near the beach, and Springsteen took the groom-to-be's guitar and provided an impromptu soundtrack for the rest of the photo shoot.

Then in November, he performed and sat down for a lengthy interview on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon." Perhaps best of all, however, The Boss also joined Fallon's "Neil Young" for a heartfelt rendition of "Whip My Hair."

It's a PPP - Perfect Person Post! James McAvoy in The Conspirator

Image hosting by IMGBoot.com

A riveting thriller, THE CONSPIRATOR tells the powerful story of a woman who would do anything to protect her family, and the man who risked everything to save her.

In the wake of Abraham Lincoln's assassination, seven men and one woman are arrested and charged with conspiring to kill the President, Vice President, and Secretary of State. The lone woman charged, Mary Surratt (Wright) owns a boarding house where John Wilkes Booth (Toby Kebbell) and others met and planned the simultaneous attacks. Against the ominous back-drop of post-Civil War Washington, newly-minted lawyer, Frederick Aiken (McAvoy), a 28-year-old Union war-hero, reluctantly agrees to defend Surratt before a military tribunal. Aiken realizes his client may be innocent and that she is being used as bait and hostage in order to capture the only conspirator to have escaped a massive manhunt, her own son, John (Johnny Simmons). As the nation turns against her, Surratt is forced to rely on Aiken to uncover the truth and save her life.

Maná: The Billboard Cover Story

Fher Olvera, lead singer of Mexican rock quartet Maná, lived with the music for weeks. Then a story came to him: A medieval nun cloistered behind convent walls falls deeply in love with a priest. Her passion is finally punished with death.

"I can't say exactly where I got the idea to write a song about this," Olvera says. "But I'd read a while ago a passage by Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, the poet nun who cut her hair and who fell profoundly in love. And I also saw a movie where the nun and the priest fall in love and they're shot to death. It's very magical how the music just leads you in different directions."

Music may lead Maná into sometimes surreal subject matter - but the essence of the Latin rock band made up of Olvera, drummer Alex Gonzalez, guitarist Sergio Vallin and bassist Juan Diego Calleros has remained constant for the past 20 years.

No other Spanish-language recording act sells albums with the volume and consistency of Maná. There is no bigger-selling or -touring Latin rock act in the world. Maná has sold more than 25 million Spanish-language albums in 40 countries, according to Warner, with 5 million of those in the United States and Puerto Rico, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Every single studio album, beginning with the act's 1992 breakthrough "Donde Jugaran los Niños," which sold 770,000 copies, has sold more than half a million units in the United States and Puerto Rico (save for 1995's "Cuando los Angeles Lloran," which sold 303,000).

Promo for House 7x20, "Changes"

This is the one where Cuddy's mom considers suing the hospital, as mentioned several times in this post with the pics. I really just wanted to talk about what happened in tonight's ep--SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE FUCK. If I hadn't hated Masters before, that would've done it. So glad she's gone.

Daniel Radcliffe 'admires Lady Gaga`s support of gay rights'

Daniel Radcliffe has praised Lady Gaga for her well-publicised support of gay rights.

The 21-year-old Harry Potter star has a long-term involvement with the Trevor Project, which helps lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youths. Meanwhile Lady Gaga has campaigned against the American government's 'don't ask, don't tell' policy for homosexual members of the armed forces.

Radcliffe, who was honoured with a Hero Award for his work with the Trevor Project, told MTV, 'She's very outspoken... and it's just about being who you were born as. It's wonderful that other people are coming out from all different spectrums.

'I mean, she has a slightly more flamboyant way of putting her point across than I would, and it suits her a lot better than it would me. But we're both aiming for the same thing.'
