Chrome is the new bronze.
That’s one of the main lessons of “The Andy Monument,” a glistening semi-accurate sculpture of the Pop artist Andy Warhol.
It was unveiled Thursday on the northwest corner of Union Square, amid a small throng that included two surviving Warhol superstars (Taylor Meade and Ultra Violet), friends and colleagues of the artist, art world press and curious passers-by.

Hollywood Records is banking on Bridgit Mendler graduating from Disney Channel star into a recording artist. The Disney-owned label has signed Mendler with a plan to release her debut album early next year.
Mendler, 18, a star of the Disney Channel series "Good Luck Charlie," makes her onscreen singing debut on the Disney Channel movie "Lemonade Mouth" that premieres April 15. In the film, Mendler plays the lead singer of the fictional band Lemonade Mouth; the soundtrack's first single, "Someone," was released digitally on March 22 and sold 6,000 copies according to Nielsen Soundscan "Bridgit stands out as a new star and is the first to roll out" from the film," says Rob Souriall, VP, marketing of Walt Disney Records. "She has an amazing voice."
Mendler, who sings the theme song to Good Luck Charlie," is expected to start recording the album early this summer. She is also set to star in the TV movie of "Good Luck Charlie" and as one of the voices in "Arrietty" and the next Alvin and the Chipmunks feature, "Chip-wrecked."

Joe Wright is already reuniting with one of his Atonement stars for his planned Anna Karenina film, which will star Keira Knightley, and now he may be bringing the other two on board as well. According to an article by Anne Thompson at IndieWire about British production company Working Title, Anna Karenina has been greenlit by Universal, and Wright is eyeing both James McAvoy and Saoirse Ronan for roles in the sprawling film. Jude Law and Aaron Johnson are already on board.
Both Ronan and McAvoy are keeping very busy schedules these days, though now that Ronan won't be playing the Snow White part she was heavily rumored for (it went to Lily Collins) she may have a free spot on her schedule. She and Wright are spending plenty of time together as they make the rounds to promote their new film Hanna, so it makes sense that they'd have time to talk over whichever role he wants her to play in Anna Karenina. As for McAvoy, his future will be determined by how X-Men: First Class performs this summer--he may have many years of playing Professor Xavier ahead of him. Beyond that, though, he can probably make a reunion with Wright work.
Though Hanna, a modern-day action thriller with strong fairy tale elements, is a bit of a departure from the polished period world of Atonement, Anna Karenina gets Wright back to what he established early as his wheelhouse. It's a classic story that's building a phenomenal cast-- there's nothing not to hotly anticipate here.
Troubled clothing chain American Apparel Inc. says it may have to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The New York company indicated in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it "may not have sufficient liquidity to sustain operations and to continue as a going concern."
The retailer says if it can't improve its cash position, it may need to seek bankruptcy protection.
American Apparel, which also reported a fourth-quarter loss Friday, has been plagued by problems.
In October it amended a credit agreement with Lion Capital.
That same month it avoided being delisted by the New York Stock Exchange Amex LLC after submitting a plan related to its financial filings.

Oh, to be young and free and without your parents watchful eye. What would you do? Our teen role model princess Taylor Momsen, the baddest of the bad ass Hollywood starlets turned singers, decided to ratchet up the raunch, on stage in Paris, bringing up the cadre of shirtless women and flashing her, um, not quite barely legal body, in a manner that would like get her booted from the debutante ball. I mean, that, um, bottom and legs and, well, when does this girl turn eighteen again? Enjoy.

“The Borgias” makes “The Sopranos” look like Snooki’s tame cousins.
In the new Showtime series, Rodrigo Borgia and his clan stop at nothing to gain power over their enemies. In the first episode alone they bribe, kill, maim and lie just so dad can be pope.
Yup, they played by different rules in the 15th century (sex was rampant, even among the anointed). But all the robes, miters and gold goblets can’t diminish their appeal. Even those on the outside are intrigued by this oh-so-cagey family.
Rodrigo (Jeremy Irons) seems like a 21st-century politician when we first meet him. He wants a higher job; he knows he’s going to need more than skill. So he dispenses his son Cesare (Francois Arnaud) to shake the trees. How the two manage to swing the vote for pope is only the first of many devious tricks they pull. Never mind that Rodrigo turns on his own. Cesare is devoted and will do anything dad wants.
Meanwhile, sister Lucrezia (Holliday Grainger) stirs the pot with mom (Joanne Whalley) while brother Juan (David Oakes) heads off, seemingly, on his own.
The series has so much intrigue (and eye candy), it’s impossible to ignore. Indeed, this could have been a stuffy history lesson. Instead, it’s a bawdy romp into the past, proving those who fail to regard history are doomed to repeat it.
Irons is everything you could want in a tyrant and Arnaud is a great new find as that oh-too-loyal son.
Lotte Verbeek is fun as Rodrigo’s mistress and Derek Jacobi practically shifts the series’ focus when he turns up as Rodrigo’s biggest detractor.
In lavish halls and castles, writer/director Neil Jordan immediately sets a tone that never wavers. He moves quickly though the story (this is history for the ADHD generation) and into the bedrooms. “The Borgias” has its moments of Showtime sex but it’s more focused on power and glory.
At what price? Judging from the first episodes, the Borgias believe nothing is out of their range. In a word, they’re unstoppable.
"Meanwhile, sister Lucrezia (Holliday Grainger) stirs the pot with mom (Joanne Whalley)"
Charlie Sheen was heckled, booed and eventually abandoned by the crowd at his inaugural stage show, with many of the audience members chanting "refund" and heading for the exits even before the show abruptly ended.Winning? Not on opening night.
The first stop on Sheen's "My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not an Option" 20-city variety show started Saturday night with thunderous applause but ended 70 minutes later. In between, Sheen tried to appease his audience with rants, a rapper and a question and answer session, ultimately concluding the first show was "an experiment."
The former "Two and a Half Men" star learned firsthand at Detroit's 5,100-seat Fox Theatre that show business still requires a show. The debacle called into question the fate of the nascent tour. Some fans already predicted a premature end for the monthlong trek, which was scheduled to resume Sunday in Chicago.
After one of the sustained booing moments, Sheen tried to calm the crowd.
"Come on, guys. You paid to see me," he said. "... You gave me your hard-earned money without knowing what this (expletive) show was about. I'm here now ... and I'm willing to open up."
The film Catfish is getting a reboot and coming to the small screen with a very different look. According to Variety, MTV and RelativityReal are developing a reality show based on the hit indie documentary.
For those who were unfortunate enough to miss the film, Catfish explored the world of internet relationships and the effects on those involved. It focused particularly on photographer Nev Schulman who travels to Michigan to meet a woman he friended on Facebook. After an extremely awkward (and painful to watch) encounter with the women, he finds out (surprise!) that she's not who claims to be.
To keep the authenticity of the project, the creative team from Catfish will be involved in the show which most likely means collaboration from Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. The TV show will also keep its original film roots, likely focusing on people who purposely misidentify themselves online to others and documenting what happens next when these virtual couples meet in person.
Although there have been concerns raised about the film's veracity, Catfish's commentary on deception and the deterioration of human relationships in the wake of the internet age still proves to be powerful and surprisingly true. It's just now the question of whether or not the TV show will be able to preserve the film's original message, without falling victim to the trap of trashy, exploitative reality shows that currently plague television.

Lindsay Lohan has reportedly been offered the role of actress Sharon Tate, in a new biopic about the life of cult leader Charles Manson.
TMZ claims that Lohan has been offered the part of director Roman Polanski's late wife, but has yet to make her decision.
Tate was murdered in 1969 by some of Manson's followers, despite being over eight months pregnant.
The site also claims that American photographer Tyler Shields will both direct the film, and play the lead role of Charles Manson himself. Shields has previously worked with Lohan on a controversial series of photos, in which the actress was pictured holding a gun to her mouth.
Scott Kozar is currently working on a separate biopic about the Manson family, starring True Blood actor Ryan Kwanten in the lead role.
Eyes Of A Dreamer will be produced by Brad Wyman, best known for his work on the 2003 film Monster, which starred Charlize Theron as famed serial killer Aileen Wuornos.

You may not know just exactly who Heather Bright is, but chances are that you would’ve heard one of your favorite stars singing her songs. Bright has written for the likes of Justin Bieber, RedOne, Britney Spears, Usher, Akon, and even Michael Jackson, and in a new interview, she’s lifted the lid on some of the shady songwriting practices that go on behind the scenes, naming names and proving that Beyonce isn’t the only one cashing publishing cheques that she didn’t earn.
Free-Wired: But, like, with publishing deals and everything, don’t the composers – the songwriters and producers – make more than the actual singers?
HB: It depends on who you are. Rihanna takes publishing, Justin Bieber takes publishing, Kanye West takes publishing. On all the stuff that they don’t write, they take publishing.
Bright, who wrote Justin Bieber’s hit “Somebody to Love”, then admitted that she had no idea how the Tween sensation got a writing credit on the song.

Teen Mom 2’s Jenelle Evans filmed a pretty amazing make-up tutorial for her fans and posted it on YouTube. In the video (in which she looks SO much like Kristen Stewart) she goes through the step-by-step process of how she puts on her makeup, with tips on which products to use and application. She also explains, “Jace is sleeping right now that’s why I’m doing this,” and refers to her mother using her make-up since they all live together now as we previously reported. Keep reading for Jenelle’s top five tips and watch the video!
Jenelle, who drops the F-bomb (around the 7:27 mark) when she can’t get her eye make-up perfectly even, gives serious tips on using foundation and painting your eyes. Here are our top five favorite tips:
1. Use your hands “I use my hands for everything, I don’t use those pads or anything.”
2. Don’t cake on foundation. “If you use just a little bit, it’ll cover it up and look natural at the same time.” Also, use some on your eyelids and underneath your eyes to cover up any redness or bags.
3. Use both top and bottom eye-liner
4. Pull your eye before putting on eye liner because “it’s way easier to put it on. I start from the back and then I pull forward.” She also doesn’t do it all the way around.
5. Don’t cake your eye shadow on and “make sure you don’t get your eye shadow on your eye liner on your eye.”
Jenelle has been making headlines after fighting with Britany Truett. She just recently got kicked out of her house and brought 1-year-old Jace to live with her mother, who apparently likes to use her makeup. What do you think of Jenelle’s tips? Will you be using them? Are they helpful?
Fulham unveiled a statue of Michael Jackson outside its stadium on Sunday, with team chairman Mohamed Al Fayed telling fans to support another Premier League club if they don't like the idea.
Al Fayed, who was close friends with Jackson, danced with children after unveiling the statue of the "King of Pop" before Fulham's home match against Blackpool.
The statue outside Craven Cottage has divided opinion, but Al Fayed launched a passionate defense of his move to commemorate his friendship with Jackson, who died in 2009.
"Why is it bizarre?" he said. "Football fans love it. If some stupid fans don't understand and appreciate such a gift, they can go to hell.
"I don't want them to be fans. If they don't understand and don't believe in things I believe in, they can go to Chelsea, they can go to anywhere else."
Chelsea, the defending English champion, is the nearest Premier League team to Fulham, with both clubs located in southwest London.
"People will queue to come and visit it from all over Britain and it is something that I and everybody else should be proud of," Al Fayed said.
The statue had been slated to be erected outside Harrods department store, but those plans were shelved when Al Fayed sold the business last year.
The singer attended a Fulham match in 1999.

Stewart is often a target of a specific kind of body policing: the “smile, baby” requirement. When she appears on the red carpet and does not assure us with her teeth that she is simply thrilled to be reduced to a presence, a dress, a posture, she is often the target of harassment for her expression. There is an expectation of women in general and famous woman in particular to always assure the onlooker that they are happy to be looked upon through smiling, and Stewart rejects this.

i'm glad someone finally pointed out this double standard, its annoying as fuck
The New York Mets have so many problems with outside criticism that about the last thing they need is a foul-mouthed cartoon baby giving his opinion on the team. In fact, the only thing that might be worse is if that baby's take was aired on the team's official broadcast after an opening day loss.
Because it's the Mets, both things actually happened. Of course they did. First, Stewie Griffin of Fox's "Family Guy" uttered a funny bit about the Mets during one of last fall's episodes and it quickly spread around the Internet. Then an unidentified SNY employee briefly played part of the clip over broadcaster Gary Cohen after the Mets' 6-2 loss to the Florida Marlins on Friday night.

Don't you hate when you're an omnitalented actor/poet/artist/rebel sex god and The Man forces you to conform to his close-minded ideals? Squares who worship the dollar as their only God have forced James Franco to shut down his Twitter account.
It seems like boobs may have sparked Franco's Twitter downfall. Thursday night, Franco tweeted a picture of himself getting rubbed up on by a bunch of naked women for a new short film by Kids writer Harmony Korine. But the next day, he told Politico that "Social media is over." Why?
"My thought was 'this is my Twitter. I can do whatever I want.' But certain companies I work with contacted me about what I was saying." Today: Franco's vanished from Twitter.

The Daily Star Sunday has claimed that Channel 5 will sign a five-year deal with Endemol in the next few days. As previously rumoured, the show will return with a four-week Celebrity run in August, immediately followed by a regular series in September.
Among the celebrities being considered for the summer stint are ex-Harrods boss Mohamed Al-Fayed, The Only Way Is Essex star Amy Childs and The Wanted singer Max George. Meanwhile, Charlie Sheen will apparently be offered a "big-money" deal.
Joanna Lumley, Peaches Geldof, Prince Harry's ex Chelsy Davy, Abbey Clancy and Tinie Tempah are also said to be on the producers' wishlist.
Additonally, controversial football pundit Andy Gray, Home and Away actress Samara Weaving and boxer Ricky Hatton could be offered deals to take part in the reality show.
"We are giving television fans exactly what they wanted - Big Brother back on our screens this summer," a source said. "The deal will be signed over the next couple of days but everything has been agreed. It's a really exciting time for Channel 5 and everyone is determined to make this new era of Big Brother the best yet.

Top-flight world football has no openly gay players, except one – Swedish midfielder Anton Hysén. So why did he make the move, and what has been the reaction?
Anton Hysén looks every inch the modern footballer. The 20-year-old Swede has his initials tattooed behind one ear and his parents' names on each forearm. On his left arm, in particularly elaborate lettering, is: "UNWA". This is Hysén's tribute to Liverpool, his birthplace, and the terrace anthem of his favourite club – You'll Never Walk Alone.
Hysén, the son of former Liverpool defender and Swedish international Glenn Hysén, is currently walking very much alone. This month, the left-sided midfielder came out as Sweden's first openly gay male footballer. He is only the second high-level footballer to come out in the world, ever. The first, Justin Fashanu, revealed he was gay in 1990, found himself shunned by the footballing world, including his brother, John, and hanged himself eight years later. For, much like the 29 year old’s performances as of late, final figures for ‘Fatale’ on this side of the pond are both limp and lifeless.
Despite much label backing, Spears’ 7th studio album could only manage a lowly #8 debut on the Official UK Top 40 Albums Chart. The singer’s last effort, 2008’s ‘Circus’, bowed at #4 with opening week sales of 76,000. Meanwhile, Tesco’s Mary Byrne – of X-Factor fame- saw her debut ‘Mine & Yours’ open at #6, above Britney.
As such, ‘Fatale’ becomes the Spears’ lowest-charting studio album in the UK since ‘In the Zone’, which peaked at #13 in December 2003. What’s more, with sales between 27,000 – 30,000, it also serves as her lowest first week British sales to-date.
Rachel Bilson’s representatives have moved quickly to dismiss a report suggesting the actress and her Jumper co-star Hayden Christensen have ended their on/off romance for good.
The actors reunited earlier this year after calling off their engagement last August amid rumours they were struggling to maintain a long-distance relationship.
A source has told Us Weekly the romance is over, insisting, "They're done this time..."
But Bilson's rep claims the insider is very much mistaken.
She tells Celebuzz.com, "There is no truth to this - Rachel and Hayden are still dating."

If this ends up working out, this would be yet another chance for Meester to branch out beyond her relatively-serious role as Blair on The CW show -- her first real venture out into a light-hearted genre is the upcoming "Monte Carlo" alongside Selena Gomez and "Glee" actor Cory Monteith.
The June 5 premiere of MTV's Teen Wolf will include an openly gay character, gay male entertainment website AfterElton.com reported.
The teen series, which is based on the 1985 film of the same name starring Michael J. Fox, stars 19-year-old Tyler Posey (Smallville, Brothers & Sisters) as Scott McCall, the newly turned werewolf.
Newcomer Keahu Kahuanui will play the character of Danny, an out student who plays on the school's lacrosse team and has a boyfriend. He first appears in the second episode of the series and is in half of the show's first 12-episode season.
Teen Wolf also inspired an animated TV series which ran on CBS for two seasons in the late 80s.
But according to MTV, its retelling will include a “greater emphasis on romance, horror and werewolf mythology.”
In addition to Kahuanui and Posey, the series also co-stars Colton Haynes (The Hills, The Gates), Crystal Reed (Skyline, Crazy, Stupid, Love), Tyler Hoechlin (Road to Perdition, 7th Heaven), Holland Roden (Pushed, 12 Miles of Bad Road), Adam Fristoe (Halloween II, Road Trip) and newcomer Dylan O'Brien.

Meanwhile, MTV is still trippin’. First they canceled Lauren's reality show before it aired. Now they’re blocking viewing of what was to be the show’s cool stop-motion intro.
A couple of weeks ago I was browsing the site of little-known photographers Angela + Ithyle and came across a cool stop-motion video featuring Lauren which I recognized was likely the intro to her scrapped reality show. Of course I immediately posted it to ONTD . The story was subsequently picked up by many major media outlets thus confirming what we all knew— ONTD is an actual source of stories for certain sites ( COUGHnypostCOUGH ).
The response the intro was overwhelmingly positive and there was criticism of MTV passing over the show for trashier content. The video was rapidly amassing Youtube views until Viacom stepped in. Now the original Youtube link to the video brings up a blank screen with a sweet message from Viacom that the video was “blocked due to copyright”. The video has also been removed from Angela + Ithyle’s site.
Why does MTV/Viacom give a fuck about people watching a video intro for a show they already cancelled?

“Uh, no, I don’t think so,” Ryan said when asked if he is called that. “I mean, you know, if we were in India I would be, just ‘cause I’m older. But no, I don’t think I’ve officially held the title of uncle.”
It's always cool to hear about long-term friendships on Hollywood. Ryan and Sandra have been friends for over 10 years.
Honestly though, she still looks amazing. And if baring a nipple meant we’d be able to wear that dress with those shoes and that jewelry, well, then consider us NSFW.

After checking in separately in Los Angeles two days ago, Ryan Phillippe and girlfriend Amanda Seyfried arrived in Paris this morning very much together. The pair popped out of their plane holding hands and cuddling.
With all of Ryan's past flings putting a damper on their love flame (ahem and ahem), is this escape a chance for Ryan and Amanda to concentrate on their own ( Collapse )
Jermaine Jackson has been ordered to pay his ex-wife Alejandra Jackson more than $80,000 in missed child support payments for their two children, Jaafar and Jermajesty Jackson.
But Michael Jackson’s 56-year-old brother claims he is too poor to pay up!
"I'm not rich like Michael was," he exclusively told RadarOnline.com outside the courtroom on Friday. "Justice is not justice. It is so unfair.”
Jermaine, who has appeared in reality shows including Celebrity Big Brother UK in 2007, claims part of the reason he hasn't been making payments is because he doesn't have the money.
He told RadarOnline.com: “The $3,000 payment; they judged that off of one show I was on, Big Brother.”
Jermaine reportedly received several hundred thousand dollars for appearing on that show.
However, Jermaine doesn't believe he should have to make the payments, since his ex-wife has been living rent free at Katherine Jackson's house (where the bills are footed by Michael Jackson) in Encino, California, for years: "She has never once paid a bill."
"He's $100,000 back on child support and he says he doesn't have it," Alejandra exclusively told RadarOnline.com. "I want him to do this right thing by his children."
Later, Jermaine took to Twitter, complaining to fans that "there's is a difference btwn providing reasonable child support (on top of rent/clothes/education) and being held to ransom..."

Welcome to the Wendy Williams experience. For the last couple years, as host of The Wendy Williams Show, she has stood out by going big. She’s made a transformation from a bad-girl radio shock jock to a morning television personality. And in the process, she’s created a new species of daytime talk. Beige? That’s for Oprah or Rachael Ray. Leave the sneakers and the blazers and finger-snapping dances to Ellen. This is a suede thigh-high boot show. This is a hot pink show. It’s loud. It’s filled with disco balls (six of them, to be exact). It’s got the signature catchphrase ("How you doin’?"). It’s a show heavy in gossip.

Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green were spotted making their way into the Staples Center in Los Angeles today.
Playing camera-shy as always, the happily married couple was on route to check out the Lakers lose to the Denver Nuggets in a shocking defeat.
Meanwhile, Brian is talking about rumours that his real-life leading lady may be involved in the Knocked Up sequel.
“She met with Judd Apatow and from what I heard, they got along smashingly well,” says the studly actor. “So she’s excited. I think she starts in June.”

Actor Jackie Chan performs at a charity concert in Hong Kong and he other Asian stars manage to raise over HK$25 million ($3.2 million) for disaster-hit Japan.
Jackie Chan, Andy Lau and a host of Asian performing artists staged a three-hour charity concert in Hong Kong on Friday to raise funds for victims of Japan's earthquake and tsunami.
"Rush Hour" star Chan opened the program by leading dozens of singers and the audience in a moment of silence for the casualties in Japan. The singers then linked arms as they performed the event's theme song, "Succumb Not to Sorrow," based on a poem by children's writer Kenji Miyazawa.
"The more ruthless natural disasters are, the more love there should be in the world. This event tonight gathers performing artists from different places, hoping to deliver the message 'don't be defeated by natural forces' to all those in the disaster areas," Lau told the audience at Hong Kong's Victoria Park.
Action star Donnie Yen said in his plea for donations, "We all live on the same planet. We should not distinguish among races. Please extend a helping hand to those in need."
Indonesian performer Sherina Munaf said the Japanese people should take encouragement from the way her country recovered from the 2004 tsunami that devastated coastlines across Southeast Asia.
"I am very impressed, I am very inspired by the Japanese people because after all these tough times, they still show calmness, respect toward each other and they are very helpful toward one another," she said before performing her song, "Here to Stay."
"The South Korean people were deeply saddened by the Japanese earthquake. I am happy those sentiments are shared here and that we are cheering on the victims in Japan," South Korean actor Kwon Sang-woo said through a translator.
American singer Lionel Richie chipped in a video recording of a recent Australian performance of his hit song "Say You, Say Me" he dedicated to the Japanese people. "We believe you can survive this and you will get stronger," Richie said in the recording.

Last year Universal Pictures quietly went into production on Intruders, 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's horror flick that centers on an 11-year-old girl who is forced to confront childhood demons.
Starring Clive Owen, Daniel Brühl, Carice Van Houten, Pilar López de Ayala, Ella Purnell, Izan Corchero, and Kerry Fox, those were the only details given.
THR was on hand at the Malaga Spanish Film Festival where Fresnadillo put the trailer on display while also explaining: "The film centers on the origin of the monsters that are born in childhood and are passed on by the family,” Fresnadillo said. “Clive looks like a normal man, even heroic, who has a range that can take him to do the dark side and allows him to travel the entire trajectory of the character."
While that's even a bit vague, it's still better than nothing. I quite enjoyed 28 Weeks Later and am excited to see what else he can deliver.

IDK.. I understand what he's saying. I support him. It's just always difficult when a favorite musician starts to change.. with this, and his new rock band, and his new general outlook on life - while it's not bad, and better for him - it leaves you wondering if it will effect his talent.

How the rise of self-esteem pop is reducing empowerment to text-speak
Positivity in pop music isn’t exactly a revelation, but there’s a particular nuance to the messages being shared by the current wave of musical optimists. From Perry’s sugary “Firework” to the reverse-engineered anthem that is Gaga’s “Born This Way,” the top half of Billboard’s current Hot 100 features no fewer than seven tracks that can be described as “self-esteem pop.” This burgeoning subgenre is an apolitical, Auto-Tuned version of “free to be you and me” music—a vapid new spin on the bohemian celebration of individuality that emerged from ’60s and early ’70s hippie culture.

The actress reunites with 'Atonement' director Joe Wright for a stylized assassin-action movie, and their bond is obvious.
Shortly after she received an Oscar nomination at the tender age of 13, "Atonement" star Saoirse Ronan needed a new movie. Despite a drama background, she was intrigued by the title character in "Hanna," an ethereally beautiful teen who also happens to be a ruthless assassin. But the project was stuck in development at Focus Features; filmmakers like Danny Boyle had come and gone.
Ronan had a simple solution: "They said they didn't have a director," the Irish actress (first name SER-sha) recalls. "So I said, 'Why don't you just ask Joe Wright to do it?'"
Wright was a strange choice, to say the least. The British filmmaker was best known for his cinematic adaptations of "Atonement," Ian McEwan's revered novel, and the Jane Austen classic "Pride and Prejudice." He had won highbrow prizes. He didn't watch many action movies, let alone direct them. A killing machine played by a teenage girl wasn't much on his mind.
Unless, that is, it was a certain teenage girl. "If Saoirse hadn't been involved I wouldn't have given it much attention," Wright says. "But because she was, I thought I should take it seriously."

Lady Gaga’s mother reportedly insists on accompanying her wild child daughter on tour to make sure she behaves herself.
The eccentric musician has previously admitted to living off a liquid diet while on the road, and according to The Sun, had to cancel dates last year after collapsing.
Now mum Cynthia Germanotta is said to have joined her on the tour bus to try to make sure she eats.
A source told the newspaper: 'She may be one of the biggest, and strangest, pop stars in the world but her relationship with her parents is very traditional. She is from a typical loving Italian-American background and her family have normal parental concerns. Her mum thinks she drinks too much and doesn't eat enough. She has gone along to keep an eye on her boozing and feed her up.'
ROYAL bride Kate Middleton suffered a devastating ordeal at the hands of a gang of vicious bullies when she was a schoolgirl.
Her teenage tormentors at posh Downe House school even put excrement in her bedsheets, and hounded terrified Kate, then 13, for being "too perfect".
The beauty, 29, who will marry Prince William later this month, was regarded as a "nonentity" by tormentors who turned her life at the 30,000-a-year girls' boarding school into a tear-filled nightmare.
Their spiteful attacks on the future princess demonstrated shocking cruelty - and prompted Kate to choose Beatbullying as one of the charities her wedding guests will be invited to support.
"She hated it, absolutely hated it. The girls there were horrible. They used to put faeces in her bed and she was very, very badly bullied," says her closest friend from that time, Jessica Hay.
Until now, the official line has been that Kate just didn't "fit in" at the school, in Thatcham, Berkshire.
But a new book, to be released just after the royal wedding on April 29, tells why she was moved, after only two terms there, to famous Marlborough College in Wiltshire in 1996.
