Raunchy red-band trailer for the Cameron/Justin comedy 'Bad Teacher'

Some teachers just don’t give an F. For example, there's Elizabeth (Cameron Diaz). She’s foul-mouthed, ruthless, and inappropriate. She drinks, she gets high, and she can’t wait to marry her meal ticket and get out of her bogus day job. When she’s dumped by her fiancé, she sets her plan in motion to win over a rich, handsome substitute (Justin Timberlake) – competing for his affections with an overly energetic colleague, Amy (Lucy Punch). When Elizabeth also finds herself fighting off the advances of a sarcastic, irreverent gym teacher (Jason Segel), the consequences of her wild and outrageous schemes give her students, her coworkers, and even herself an education like no other.

Decoding the DNA of X-Men: First Class

THIS YEAR sees the release of four superhero movies in a summer so packed with blockbusters that one filmmaker described it as a "bloodbath."

The obsession with box office figures and critical ratings means there will be an obvious winner but no one can predict who will claim the crown and maybe we shouldn't be too keen to turn this into a competition.

One of these shows is about to get cancelled (allegedly, probably)

Remember all those talk shows ABC started developing last year? There were the two from ABC Media Productions (one a Will & Grace-esque talker with Tori Spelling and Jeff Lewis, the other a cooking show with Danny Boome) and one, a “male View” from Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie. I’m hearing, in the coming weeks, ABC will be deciding if one or more of these projects will land on The Mouse House’s daytime lineup come fall of 2011.

“They have to make a decision by the end of the First Quarter of 2011 in order to get one or more of the shows on the air by fall,” says a source. “Affiliates are getting antsy with Oprah leaving the airwaves with no clear cut successor. The decisions ABC will be making will have ripple effects throughout the ABC Daytime lineup and yes, the soaps will be affected."

As to what exactly all this means for ABC Daytime’s three soap operas, that isn’t so easy to decipher.

gorgeous gayle is perfect for ogre oprah

Oprah Winfrey’s ex, Reginald Chevalier, continues to flap his lips about his time with the media mogul. Now, he's claiming that if the perfect man wasn’t around for Winfrey, then her best friend, Gayle King, would be her soul mate.

"If there was no man in the world for Oprah, I think maybe Gayle would be enough for her — perfect for her,” said Chevalier. “They were made for each other.”

As Chevalier recalls from his four-month love affair with Winfrey, the talk show queen and her best friend always had a special bond with each other.

Judy Greer: 'Mad Love is still edgy'

Photobucket

Judy Greer has insisted that her show Mad Love is still "edgy".

Greer has previously appeared in darker comedies but explained that she joined the more traditional sitcom Mad Love because she liked the script.

"I think it's funny," she told The AV Club. "And I think that the rest of the cast is so amazing.

"They're so funny, and their timing is so good, and I just hope people... Like, I love my fans who like more edgy things, but I hope people don't get turned off by the fact that it's a multi-camera sitcom because I think it's still edgy and still evolving and I think it's going to be really good."

Greer also suggested that the show will continue to evolve as the series continues.

"As we get to know the writers, and the writers get to know us, they start to write around us more," she said. "As the show evolves, they're writing the characters for us and for our strengths and weaknesses. So as long as people can stick with it... which I think they should, because it's awesome."

Mad Love airs on Mondays at 8.30/7.30c on CBS.

“All he taught me was, ‘Don’t ever punch anybody with a closed fist because you’ll break it.’ That’s it!  I was like, ‘Come on! You’ve got to teach me! Let’s mess around!’ hitting him with playful punches and he’s like, ‘Will you stop hitting me. Why does everyone always want to hit me?’”

“I had such a fun day trying on all Vivienne’s new collection. She is my favorite designer. As a young girl I would cut out pictures of her dresses from magazines, although I was never able to afford them. Even now I only have one in my closet. The lovely thing now is that I can borrow them and they fit so well, unlike some designer clothes.”

Franco presents a 12 Hour cut of My Own Private Idaho.

James Franco tweeted the above photo yesterday advertising a new art project he's involved in with Gus van Sant!

Movieline has the details:

A release from the esteemed Gagosian Gallery states the exhibit, “Unfinished,” will open Feb. 26 in Beverly Hills and run through April 9. The exhibit is basically a reworking of Van Sant’s 1991 flick My Own Private Idaho, renamed Endless Idaho, done by Franco using behind the scenes and deleted footage. It is 12 hours long. 12.

What does this 12 hours include? Location scouting! Interviews with actual street hustlers! Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix improvising!

Exhausted yet? Well, wake up, because there is a second movie, My Own Private River! This is just shots of Phoenix (Sorry Keanu!), set to an original score by Michael Stipe.

The films are accompanied by eight works on paper done by Van Sant. While this is of course remarkable, and obviously time consuming, it seems like phoning it in next to Franco.

Liam Gallagher Refuses to play Oasis Songs on Beady Eye Tour

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Though Liam Gallagher has spent countless hours on stage over the years, the singer is ready for another debut, this time with his new band, Beady Eye. Gallagher formed Beady Eye with other ex-members of Oasis in 2009, after a final breach with his brother Noel ended one of the biggest groups of the past 20 years.

As Gallagher tells Spinner, he's not looking back.

This ain't a project," he says from England, on the line with Beady Eye guitarist Andy Bell, who played bass in Oasis. "We're in it for the long run. We're not going to stop."

Now, 18 months after Oasis split, Beady Eye -- also including Gem Archer and Chris Sharrock -- are ready to release their debut, 'Different Gear, Still Speeding,' on March 1 and begin a two-month world tour two days later in Glasgow. So far, according to Gallagher, the response to the new songs has been favorable.

"People seem to be liking it," he says. "There's always going to be a bit of negativity -- that's life -- but it seems there's a lot of good will around."

Queen Amy talks about her adorable road rage on Letterman

After seeing her play the sweet, motivated and hilarious Leslie Knope on "Parks & Recreation," it's hard to imagine Amy Poehler experiencing any kind of rage. But, Tuesday night on David Letterman's show, Poehler showed us the kind of road rage she experiences driving around L.A. with her kids.

As we expected, Poehler's version of road rage is actually adorable, consisting of her going "Boston" on people inside her car, throwing the occasional double-middle-finger and passive aggressively calling people "Sweetheart." If this is the kind of rage she subjects people to on the road, we'd cut her off any day.

How do you handle your road rage, ONTD?

Love them to bits (especially Peter and Nez), but man, this interview is awkward. Also, U.S. fans, take heart--the tour is merely starting in the UK, with ten dates in late May. From what I have heard, the guys will then be coming to the US in June, July, and possibly August. Rihanna's Record Sales Pass 10 Million In the UK

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Rihanna's record sales in the UK has passed to 10 million mark, her record label has announced.

The singer has reached the milestone six years after the release of her debut album, 'Music Of The Sun' in 2005.

Rihanna is the only female artist to have a number one hit single in five consecutive years in the UK, and also secured the longest running number one of the last decade with 2007’s 'Umbrella', which retained the top spot for ten consecutive weeks.

Her most recent album 'Loud' has already produced two number one singles and sold over a million copies in the UK, becoming her fastest-selling album.

Mercury Music Group UK President Jason ILey said: “It was clear to me from the first time that I met Rihanna that she had the potential to be one of the most successful artists in the world.

“It has been a privilege to work with her these past six years. I believe that we have only seen the tip of the iceberg, and I’m looking forward to seeing her achieve even greater success in the coming months and years.”

Rihanna Responds To Trump’s Dig Over Charity Event

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Donald Trump might not be happy that Rihanna couldn’t perform at his fundraiser last Saturday evening, but a rep for Rihanna tells Access Hollywood exclusively that the pop superstar was under strict doctor’s orders.

“Rihanna was recovering [from] bronchitis and her doctor advised her not to get on a plane as she would risk losing her voice and damaging her vocal chords,” the rep told Access on Tuesday, regarding why Rihanna canceled her scheduled gig in Florida with The Donald.

The “S&M” songstress had been slated to perform at Trump’s charity event in Palm Beach, Fla., however, was forced to pull out due to illness – something that didn’t sit well with Trump when he saw Rihanna sing the next day during the NBA All-Star game in Los Angeles.

“I thought that (Rihanna bailing) was insulting to everyone,” Trump told The Palm Beach Post’s Page 2 Live blog. “But for Rihanna to go to the (NBA) All-Star game and perform after she told us she was sick, that is just a lack of respect.”

Is Gwyneth Paltrow Undesirable?

Wish you were skinny like Gwynnie? Let me tell you, ladies, we men are turned off by skeletal chic...
Women all over Britain probably choked on their thickly buttered white toast today, on seeing pictures of Gwyneth Paltrow — 38 and a mother of two — frolicking in the Caribbean sea. No cellulite-covering sarong required there, eh ladies? It was infuriatingly obvious Gwyneth has the body fat ratio of an eel, perfectly detoxed honey-and-oatmeal-rubbed skin, and the physique of an 18-year-old trampolining champion. But as females all over the world weep into their Snack a Jacks, determined never again to trouble the silver foil of a Cadbury’s family-size bar of milk chocolate, and vowing to actually go to the gym (where their occasional swim now works out at £50 a length), I say — not so fast.

Puritanically thin: Most men are oblivious to Gwyneth Paltrow's wan perfection

While Gwyneth, with her willowy figure, exercise addiction and macrobiotic fussiness, seems to drive most ordinary women insane with resentment, most men are oblivious to her wan perfection. We happily flick through the paper until we hit upon a small shot of Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks’ ample bosom, or Kelly Brook buying wallpaper while wearing a large sheepskin coat. While Gwyn is proud of her taut, yoga body, men aren’t enthused. Men don’t hang around in pubs talking about how many sit-ups their wife can do. While shots of the stick-thin Gwyn might appeal to women, men prefer lumps, bumps and wobbly bits.

Material Girl's new campaign with the fierce Kelly Osbourne released!

What Madonna had to say on Kelly: "Kelly represents a true Material Girl," says Madonna in a statement today. "She is edgy, cool and has a unique sense of style that Lola and I love."

What Kelly had to say on Material Girl and the campaign: "I'm still waiting for someone to pinch me and wake me up. I can't believe that I'm actually doing this and working with Madonna and Lola. What I like about it is that it's a brand for every woman, not just for young girls. They take high fashion and make it affordable and they don't cut corners. And it's so my style. I hate to call her a little girl, but this girl has the best style and she's so herself. And she was the most polite, well-mannered, well-rounded, unaffected normal girl in Hollywood that I met. I couldn't stop raving about her, so when I got this phone call I just had to do this.”

Lola on Kelly: "I remember exactly what she was wearing: a striped maxidress with a jean jacket and pink blazer and I thought she looked so cool. So when [Iconix] came to us with a selection of girls [for the campaign] and she was one of them, I was like, 'Oh my God, she's great and she has great style.' I just think she's very individual but at the same time she's very fashionable."

Trailer and more dates for US screenings of Danny Boyle's "Frankenstein"

If you don't happen to live in England but were really dying to see Danny Boyle's stage adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, then we've got good news. Cancel your plane ticket and put away your passport because the National Theater Live is bringing a broadcast of the play to a theater (marginally) near you.

Boyle's play, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch (best known for playing Sherlock Holmes in the British TV series "Sherlock") and Jonny Lee Miller of Trainspotting fame, has already sold out all of its future dates in England. Miller and Cumberbatch play the mad scientist and the hideous creature he creates, but in an interesting twist, the actors switch roles on specific dates. This is seemingly done to highlight the "twin" nature of Frankenstein and his monster as presented in Shelley's novel -- and has resulted in some people buying tickets to see the show twice for the full effect.

YASSSSSS ADELEGEND.

XL/Columbia Diva Set to Approach 300k with Sophomore Album, 21

Adele’s sophomore XL/Columbia Records release, 21, is on target to debut at #1 next week with the year’s highest sales total, expected to be anywhere from 275-300k, and possibly even higher.

With more than 150k in first-day sales reported by those music retailers who haven’t been robbed blind by Lindsay Lohan, the album will be fueled by a non-stop parade of TV appearances and a full-court press by Steve Barnett and Team Columbia.

Adele’s run began at last Friday’s Today Show, continued with a performance for Late Night with David Letterman and the show’s online site Monday (2/21), stints on Ellen and Jimmy Kimmel tomorrow (2/24), a CBS Early Show appearance Friday (2/25) and a Monday (2/28) slot on Chelsea Lately. In addition, she’ll tape a Live from the Artist’s Den for PBS this Friday that will air later this year.

The stateside push comes in the wake of her Brits Awards performance last week, which sent two of her albums and singles into the Top 5 in the U.K., the best such showing for a living artist since The Beatles.

Adele broke in with a bang for her debut album, 19, which came out in January, 2008, and earned her a pair of Grammy awards at the 2009 ceremony, including Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. The album had sold over 903k copies and 1.85 million digital tracks in the U.S. since its release

The only other newcomers to make a dent will be veteran Wind-up Bayside and Sire’s Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows, both in the 14-17k range.

In a strange quirk, due to the Grammys airing two weeks later than last year and an extra day of Valentine's shopping, the market was actually up 10% vs. the same week last year, up 12% over last week and now down just 11% to date.

Well, it’s a start.

Alfred Hitchcock Never Won an Oscar: Go Figure

“Everything’s perverted in a different way, isn’t it?” — Alfred Hitchcock

Do you ever wonder why some of the greatest performers and directors of all time have never won an Oscar? It certainly has nothing to do with lack of talent. For example, the man considered the greatest director of all time, whose films have affected millions and changed the history of cinema, never received an Academy Award for best director.

In a career spanning half a century (1925-1976), Alfred Hitchcock completed 53 feature films - 23 British and 30 in America after moving to Hollywood. Hitchcock is routinely and without doubt listed as the best film director of all time. His films are heralded as some of the most influential movies ever made—affecting the directing styles of other directors around the world who are now considered masters themselves.

Hitchcock received accolades and awards that, if piled together, would form a vast mountain. Only one award escaped him — an Oscar for best director.

Collapse )

***
Hitch received 5 Best Director nominations for Rebecca, Lifeboat, Spellbound, Rear Window, and Psycho. His total number of Oscar nominations (including winners) = 50. Rebecca is the only film he directed that won Best Picture.

“It annoys me when people say Leona Lewis is boring. No, she’s not. She’s got a sick voice and being normal is cool,” she added.

Johny Weir talks about meeting his idol Christina Aguilera

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Johnny Weir: I got to meet Christina when I went to the MTV Movie Awards this past spring. I started walking the red carpet and there was a big commotion. I sent my manager over to grab her and tell her that I wanted to meet her. That is how things work in Hollywood circles, which I am still not accustomed to. She came over and she had seen me skate. I have always respected her for never caving in to what the public wanted to see from her. She was always so powerful and used her talent as opposed to other things to become famous. She relied on her voice to sell albums. I always respected that and tried to bring that philosophy to my world. I try to take no prisoners and be who I am. You always have a fear when you meet famous people that they will be a douchebag or your image will crumble. All of my heroes--Elton John and Christina Aguilera—have been so beyond amazing.

The pop star and the Prince met at Clarence House to discuss her plans to start the project in April.

It will provide vital funds for the Trust's work in the singer's home town of Newcastle and surrounding areas.

The Girls Aloud star and X Factor judge said she wanted her foundation to help youngsters fulfil their potential.

Cole, 27, said: "Too many young people grow up thinking no-one cares and don't believe they can make anything of themselves.

"They have so much potential - but can go off the rails without the right care and support. I want my Foundation to help them realise their potential and get their lives on track.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Michael Lohan Talks about Dina, Lindsay’s Enablers & Why She Won’t Plea Bargain

They say that you can’t believe everything you read and in my opinion that statement applies 100% to the general trashing that Michael Lohan gets in the popular media. Michael and I spoke today and he made it believably clear to me that he is a father with his daughter’s best interests at heart – a man who is unafraid to lay the blame for Lindsay’s problems largely on the schism between Dina and himself. Michael also suggested that his other children also are having difficulty dealing with the split and could face problems themselves. Michael explained how his expulsion from the family unit at Dina’s behest during the typically volatile years of Lindsay’s later adolescence as well as Dina’s continued bad mouthing and parental alienation of him is the root cause of Lindsay’s problems.

Michael elaborated on how it so important during the teen years for children to be part of a strong loving family so that they do not become emotionally weak and develop emotional cracks and rifts. Through Michael’s ongoing work with the Inspirations Treatment Center he has learned and witnessed first hand how young people try to fill these emotional cracks with bad influences like drugs, booze, promiscuity or even crime.

Lady GaGa "Too Ethnic" for Fame

Photobucket

Lady GaGa has revealed that she was told by her drama teachers at university that she would never make it as a star.

The 24-year-old explained that they said she was "too ethnic" to ever be successful.

She told the crowd during a concert at Madison Square Garden last night that her teachers said: "You'll never be the heroine, the blonde, the star. Your hair's too dark. You look too ethnic."

She went on to say that she had replied to them: "What about Liza?" - referencing actress and singer Liza Minelli, who was at the show.

The singer also praised her hometown New York and thanked her fans for making her "brave".

She added: "I used to live 20 blocks from here, so I saw all those names go up on the Marquis, and I always wanted to see my name up in those lights.

"You made me brave, little monsters, and New York made me brave."

Chris Colfer: Better than Your Fave, The Apple of Ryan's Murphy's Wonky Eye, Toothless Boy Wonder

Sup bitches?

Sure, there's a growing trend of openly gay actors on prime-time TV (Neil Patrick Harris, T.R. Knight), but 20-year-old Chris Colfer is the only one also playing a gay character — fearless teen fashionista Kurt Hummel on the hit musical series "Glee." He's stealing scenes and hitting all the right notes as a diva unlike any we've seen on the small screen.

He recently chatted with USA WEEKEND about his extended family of "Glee"-cast mates, working with his mentor Jane Lynch, and whether he still answers his own fan mail. (Yes fellow Gleeks, he does!)

Are the "Glee" cast members your closest friends?
"Oh definitely I would say without any shame, we are the best of friends because we were plucked from different parts of the world to do this show. We're so lucky to have each other - I mean it's pretty nauseatingly cute. I go to sushi with Lea (Michele), we all go to the movies, we've had sleepovers in like one person's hotel room when we're on tour but that's stopped because they all snore and I can't sleep. I mean these are pretty much the only friends that I have! We do everything together. I was at Kevin (McHale) and Jenna (Ushkowitz)'s house for New Years; we ate way too much Mexican food and watched the ball drop on TV! We're definitely family, as corny as that sounds.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Greg Kinnear are seen kissing on the set of I Don’t Know How She Does It yesterday in New York (Feb. 22). Christina Hendricks was also spotted on set earlier in the day (pics here). Despite the cold temperatures in New York, the crew actually had to bring in artificial snow for the scene.

Don’t look for Sarah in any kind of Sex and the City prequel (rumors are flying). She recently told the Los Angeles Times that she’s not keen on the idea of going back in history: “But I don’t think we can pretend to go back. It’s creating two histories. Interview with the world's greatest actor: Sir Anthony Hopkins

Photobucket

Anthony Hopkins is certainly the fittest and healthiest-looking septuagenarian in Los Angeles as, beaming with bonhomie and good humour, he comes into the hotel suite with a purposeful stride.

Before leaving home he had spent half an hour on the treadmill, lifted some weights and breakfasted on three egg whites and a tomato. "Very good for the prostate," he says with a cheery smile.

He has lived in California for 35 years, became an American citizen 10 years ago and has a Colombian wife, all of which have probably combined to help the Oscar-winning actor lose his natural British reticence and talk freely and easily about his personal life and past problems that many others would be loathe to discuss.

Not many would admit, as he does, to have been "a roaring drunk", known for his black moods and temper tantrums. He fought with directors, brawled in bars and once stormed off the stage in the middle of Macbeth. His battles at the National Theatre were legendary.

But all that was long ago and his sunny disposition and cheery outlook on life today are a testament to how he has turned his life around.

Aron Ralston talks "Minute to Win It" and the Oscars

Aron Ralston, whose experiences and book served as the basis for 127 Hours, will be putting his great-outdoors-honed skills to the test on the task-oriented NBC game show "Minute to Win It," airing tonight at 8 p.m. ET. We talked with him about taking on ping-pong balls and Guy Fieri for charity, the wonder of "Double Dare," and his plans to attend the Oscars.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How did they approach you to do "Minute to Win It"?
ARON RALSTON:
One of the producers just reached out and he laid out their thoughts. I guess they do these celebrity shows for charity from time to time, and the way they explained it was that I’d get to pick the non-profit that the money would go to and that I could play and win up to a million dollars, and I was like, “That sounds pretty sweet.” For two days worth of time out in Los Angeles? I played for a group that I’ve been on the board of for about five years now called the Wilderness Workshop. They work to preserve wild pristine country, especially in central Colorado, that is under a variety of threats such as oil and gas drilling. It’s trying to keep our wilderness as it is.

Sony and Platinum Dunes to Develop Adaptation of IDW Comic ZOMBIES VS. ROBOTS

Sony Pictures has picked up the rights to the IDW comic book Zombies vs. Robots for Platinum Dunes (the studio behind the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street remakes).  Screenwriter JT Petty (The Burrowers) has used the comic as the basis for a spec script entitled Inherit the Earth. Per Deadline, the story “focuses on a young girl who is the last survivor on earth. She is protected by a group of robots from a pack of zombies that are intelligent and evolved.”  Here’s the positive reaction to this story: “Ah!  So maybe a little Iron Giant mixed with Zombieland!  Sounds wonderful!  Here’s the negative reaction: “UUUUUGGGGGHHHH.”  This is really one of those projects with the potential to be delightful and imaginative or a quick, thoughtless cash-in on smashing two genre creatures together.  Your optimism or pessimism probably hinges on how much you trust the Platinum Dunes gang of Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form, who are producing along with Dave Alpert and Rick Jacobs.

And for those wondering about the title, there’s no relation between Zombies vs. Robots and Jon Favreau’s similar-sounding Cowboys & Aliens.

Deadliest Catch Crew Member Found Dead

Almost one year after Phil Harris, captain of the Cornelia fishing boat on "Deadliest Catch," died after suffering a stroke, the Discovery Channel show endured another loss: Thirty-three-year-old crew member Justin Tennison was found dead Tuesday in an Alaska hotel room.

Tennison died of unknown causes, and an autopsy is to be performed Wednesday afternoon, said Lt. Randy Rosencrans, according to The Associated Press.

TMZ reports that law enforcement officials found marijuana and a bottle of alcohol in the room where Tennison's body was found.

"It is with great sadness that the Time Bandit family announces the death of crew member Justin Tennison. Justin died peacefully in his sleep the night of Feb. 21, 2011," "Deadliest Catch's" Capt. Andy Hillstrand posted on Facebook. "Justin was tough as a bull and was an all-around good hand. The captains and crew appreciated his hard work and many contributions this past year. We will miss him terribly and wish his family all the best during this most difficult time."

Tennison worked with Hillstrand on the Time Bandit ship as a deckhand, and is survived by a son and daughter.

Johnny Depp Drops Out of SEVEN FRIENDS OF PANCHO VILLA; Gael Garcia Bernal and Benicio Del Toro Circ

In December 2009, we reported that Johnny Depp was in talks to star in Emir Kusturica’s biopic Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman with Six Fingers.  Depp (who previously worked with Kusturica on 1992’s Arizona Dream) was to play Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa with Salma Hayek attached to co-star.  However, Blic Online [via Bleeding Cool] is reporting that Depp has dropped out of the project due to scheduling conflicts, and now Gael Garcia Bernal and Benicio Del Toro are circling the role of Villa.  Oddly, both men have played the revolutionary Che Guevara before (Bernal in The Motorcycle Diaries and Del Toro in Che) and may costar in Martin Scorsese’s Silence.  Blic reports that Kusturica will meet with both actors in Cuba and then make his decision.

In addition to possibly co-starring in Silence, Bernal is also set to costar in Will Ferrell’s Untitled Spanish Comedy with Diego Luna. He also has starring roles in the documentary drama Who Is Dayani Cristal? and is set to play boxer Roberto Duran in Hands of Stone.

As for Del Toro, he’s set to co-star in the hitman drama The Iceman with James Frranco and Michael Shannon, and he may take a lead role in The Farrelly Brothers’ adaptation of The Three Stooges.

Steve Carell to Star in DOGS OF BABEL

Steve Carell has signed on to star in the drama Dogs of Babel.  Screenwriter Jamie Linden (Dear John) adapted the script from the novel by Carolyn Parkhurst.  Here’s the plot synopsis per the press release:

The story follows Paul Iverson, a linguistics professor, who returns home one day to find his wife dead in their backyard. Police rule her death an accident, but Paul is not quite sure. The only witness to her death is their dog Lorelei. In Paul’s grief-stricken search for answers, he endeavors to teach Lorelei to talk in the hopes that he can uncover what happened the day his wife died.

While Carell has done films with dramatic elements (Little Miss Sunshine and Dan in Real Life), this sounds like a big departure for him.  However, he also has tons of comedies on his plate, and it’s unknown when Dogs of Babel will go in front of cameras.  The project is currently searching for a director.  Hit the jump for press release.

Ratings Report: NCIS > Glee

The NCIS team tackled Fox’s Glee in the ratings Tuesday night, the ultra-veteran CBS crime procedural beating the musical comedy phenomena for the first time in the 18-49 adult demo. NCIS delivered 21.3 million viewers and a 4.4 preliminary adult demo rating, just barely squeezing out Glee with 10.5 million viewers and a 4.3 rating. (NCIS typically wins Tuesday in total audience, but it’s the adult demo that advertisers covet and broadcasters primarily use to make their programming decisions.)

Still, Fox should have no complaints: Glee was up from last week, with Raising Hope (6.2 million, 2.5) and struggling newbie Traffic Light (4.1 million, 1.7) climbing slightly too.  Overall, CBS won the night with NCIS: LA (3.9) matching its season high. News wasn’t all sunny for CBS since The Good Wife (1.9) tied its series low.

Fox was in second place, with NBC third thanks to a steady The Biggest Loser (7.5 million, 2.7), followed by a slightly improved Parenthood (5.5 million, 2.1) that won 10 p.m.  ABC is having a rough time on Tuesdays. No Ordinary Family (4.8 million, 1.4) was down to a series low. V (5.1 million, 1.9) was steady, followed by Primetime (4.2 million, 1.4).  On the CW, One Tree Hill (2 million, 0.9) was up a tick, while Hellcats fell (1.7 million, 0.6) to its series low.
