This is a Fran Drescher post; DEAL WITH IT

Before we had "SuperNanny" we had "The Nanny", before we had "Flight of the Conchords" we had This Is Spinal Tap and in both of those shows we had The Queen of Flushing, Queens, Fran Drescher who will be making a return to TV this Friday with "The Fran Drescher Show" (on KTTV Fox 11 @ 2pm). Of course, with Drescher involved, this will be more of a "tawk" show than anything else out there and as she told me in the interview below, everything will be "Fran-ized" if you know what I mean. Some people love her, some people can't stand her because of that Queens accent but what can't be denied is that she is intelligent and opinionated.

In 2008 Drescher was appointed as a U.S. diplomat by the U.S. State Department with the official title: Public Diplomacy Envoy for Women's Health Issues. This appointment was partially due to the fact that in dealing with her own diagnosis and treatment of uterine cancer, she wrote a book, Cancer Schmancer, and launched the very successful Cancer Schmancer Movement in 2007.

We talked to Drescher a few days ago to find out how this show will be different than your typical daytime fare, that tired formula of guests with new movies, books, or TV show who line up to hock their wares, show a clip and then go to the next show. Drescher assured us it won't be like that. Read on:

She also stars in Beginners (written and directed by Mike Mills) with Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer, and it comes out in June 2011 according to IMDB.
Beginners deftly juggles two chronologies to tell the heartwarming story of two major points in the life of Oliver (Ewan McGregor), a talented illustrator.
One timeline follows the slow-burning deterioration of Oliver’s father (Christopher Plummer), who is dying of cancer. But his impending death is not the only news that has caught Oliver off guard; his divorced father, at the age of seventy-five, has also come out of the closet. Just like that, he gets a new wardrobe, a new boyfriend and an entirely new outlook on life.
Following his father’s death, a bereaved Oliver becomes somewhat of a shut-in. As Beginners takes us through his personal journey, the film flashes forward, intercutting a budding relationship between Oliver and a young French actress (Inglourious Basterd’s Mélanie Laurent) whom he meets at a costume party that he attends under duress. The twin narratives gradually reveal subtle associations about how Oliver reacts to both these unpredictable relationships, and how his father and girlfriend motivate him to surpass his self-prescribed limitations.

That's a Boss Joey Richter Post(er)

Stanning for that lil nugget Darren Criss, is, like, so last week. When it comes to A Very Potter Musical/Sequel alumni, it's now all about the wonky-jawed GQ motherfucker known as Joey Richter. Sure, he works in a parking lot while his former co-star is on one of the biggest shows in the country but whatever, you know you'd still hit that like the angry fist of God/Morgan Freeman.

So put down the late night Thanksgiving leftovers and watch as the vastly superior version of that ginger kid from Harry Potter is interviewed by some chick who clearly wants to ride his red vine. Please be forewarned, this interview is approximately 49 hours and 56 minutes long and includes more hair flipping than a Tawny Kitaen video. Enjoy.

Daniel Johns rolls out of bed and heads to Ivy Pool

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

IS IT a case of past regrets? Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns seems to be spending more time at the Ivy than recording his new album, due out in March.

Looking gaunt and unkempt, Johns was seen at Ivy Pool last weekend; the second time he had visited a venue owned by ex-wife Natalie Imbruglia's new flame Justin Hemmes, this month.

The singer's dishevelled appearance has prompted concern.

"Nobody recognised him at first," said an Ivy regular, who had never seen the 31-year-old at the trendy venue before. "He looked really out of it and hung around for a few hours with a friend."

Johns was reportedly seen at Hemmes' Establishment the week before. But if he was planning a run-in with his ex or her new boyfriend he needn't have bothered - they are said to have flown to New Zealand for a romantic weekend.

Musical love of my life, besides Bjork. They need to collaborate, STAT.

Where are all the Australian ONTDers? It baffles me that Silverchair barely has a presence here.

Buffy reboot: Put a stake in it. (misleading, don't get your hopes up)

How do you teach an old vampire slayer new tricks?

On Tuesday, Warner Bros. announced it would be re-making Buffy the Vampire Slayer in film — without TV series creator Joss Whedon or his cast.

At first glance, putting a new spin on one of the most revered shows and characters in television history — one with a cult-like following — seems like a fool's errand. But Warner smells blood money, so there's no turning back.

With Buffy poised to rise again, we offer some advice on how to make a new Vampire Slayer incarnation work, and what could bury it...

Gaga And Other Celebrities To Quit Twitter For Charity

Alicia Keys and Lady Gaga take charity work seriously, and they're going offline to prove it.

Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Usher and other celebrities have joined a new campaign called Digital Life Sacrifice on behalf of Keys' charity, Keep a Child Alive. The entertainers plan to sign off of social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter on Tuesday, which is World AIDS Day. The participants will sign back on when the charity raises $1 million.

"It's really important and super-cool to use mediums that we naturally are on," Keys said in a phone interview from New York last week.

For the campaign — which also includes Jennifer Hudson, Ryan Seacrest, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Elijah Wood, Serena Williams, Janelle Monae and Keys' husband, Swizz Beatz — celebrities have filmed "last tweet and testament" videos and will appear in ads showing them lying in coffins to represent what the campaign calls their digital deaths.

"It's so important to shock you to the point of waking up," Keys said. "It's not that people don't care or it's not that people don't want to do something, it's that they never thought of it quite like that."

The campaign, she said, puts the disease in perspective.

"This is such a direct and instantly emotional way and a little sarcastic, you know, of a way to get people to pay attention," said Keys, who has more than 2.6 million followers on Twitter.

The foundation, which began in 2003, will accept donations through text messages and bar-code technology, which is featured in the charity's Buy Life campaign. Raised efforts support families affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.

"We're trying to sort of make the remark: Why do we care so much about the death of one celebrity as opposed to millions and millions of people dying in the place that we're all from?" said Leigh Blake, the president and co-founder of Keep a Child Alive.

"It's about love and respect and human dignity," she added.

Keys said recruiting celebrities was difficult because of scheduling, but "once I got people on the phone and I was able to paint the concept for them, everybody was in."

Not one person said no, Keys recalled.

"I have a feeling that Gaga is going to raise it all by herself," Blake said. Lady Gaga has more than 7.2 million followers on Twitter, and nearly 24 million fans on Facebook.

"She's got a very, very mobilized fan base and that's beautiful to watch I think (and) she's able to draw their attention to these issues that are very important, you know, and that people follow it and act."

Keys is hoping more people — both famous folks and non-celebs — get involved once the new initiative launches: "It just doesn't have to be just because you're a celebrity or something like that. It can be anybody."

Keys, 29, married rapper-producer Swizz Beatz in July. The two had their first son, Egypt, last month. The Grammy winner said that though her life's getting busier, being a mother and wife makes her want to help others even more.

"As a human being, you deserve to have a chance at life," she said.

Ramen sales are definitely going to go up.

Marianne Faithfull releases album with fabulously trippy cover, stays fierce while doing so

"I don’t really do conventional…" 47 years of creative public life and Marianne Faithfull remains one of the most unique, bewitching and indeed unconventional musical artists Britain has ever produced.

In 47 years she’s grown from the quiver-voiced ingénue of her debut single ‘As Tears Go By’ (1964, the first song ever written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards) to her peerless position as profoundly distinctive scorched-earth torch-singer and richly emotive song-writer – as evidenced today on her 23rd solo album, the sonically stunning ‘Horses And High Heels’.

Recorded in New Orleans with a core of exceptional local musicians, the album features eight cover versions and four original new songs co-written by Marianne, four songs which feature the virtuoso guitar playing of John Porter, a musician/producer friend most noted for his work with Roxy Music, Eric Clapton and The Smiths.

The album also includes one song with lyrics specially written for her by Irish playwright Frank McGuiness (the evocative ‘The Old House’), two cameo appearances on guitar from another old friend, Lou Reed, plus further cameos from Dr. John and MC5’s Wayne Kramer. Collapse )

I got to listen to the press copy (three months early, I nearly started crying in front of my co-workers when I got the package) because I work at a magazine and the album is really grande. It's definitely her best album of this decade.

TV shows that failed or are failing. Something like that.

First came Fox's "Lone Star," two low-rated episodes and out. Next was ABC's "My Generation," poorly reviewed, poorly received, and gone. The cavalcade of failed new shows that followed was both disappointing and utterly unsurprising.

In an industry propped up by hits, the programming landscape is typically dominated by misses. Roughly 80% of all new shows fail; about a third of this year's freshman crop won't even make it past January. Figures like these have driven many to question network television's costly model, but none to actually alter it. And so it goes, another season of turkeys, as we've affectionately dubbed the shows that have already gotten the ax or are dangerously close to it.

Seven Surprising Celebrity Poets

Few things are as scary as the words “celebrity poet.” But that hasn’t stopped Amber Tamblyn, who you’ll see next in “127 Hours” and on “House,” from penning some free verse. She’s already published three collections of poetry, including the acclaimed Bang Ditto. “[Poetry] is sort of my second life,” she says. “Which is always weird and horrific when you hear actors say, ‘I wrote a book of poetry.’ Like run, run for your life. But truly I’ve been writing my whole life.” And, uh, she’s kinda good. A sample line: “We’d all love to stop eating / the poisonous parts of our wildness.” Right on!

Hey, it’s a big improvement on the verse of these six other strange celebrity poets.

Justin Timberlake Campaigning Himself for Oscar

Justin Timberlake, the actor-cum-singer, is reportedly mounting an aggressive campaign to land himself a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nod for his role as Sean Parker in The Social Network. A source said: "Sony is footing the bill for advertising the awards campaign, but Justin is doing things his own way, attending Academy screenings and privately reaching out to award winners and Academy darlings Tom Hanks and Kevin Spacey for campaigning advice." His reps declined to comment, which is a not-denial. It's plausible that the twenty-nine year-old star is reaching for a statue, but then he could end up on his equally-deserving co-stars' turf (Andrew Garfield! Armie Hammer!).

EXCLUSIVE: Emma Stone Not Starring In '21 Jump Street'

Before Emma Stone signed on in October to the play Peter Parker's love interest, Gwen Stacy, in the rebooted "Spider-Man," rumors were swirling that the 22-year-old was looking to join up with another reboot: Jonah Hill's "21 Jump Street." The pair had starred together in "Superbad," and Sony was reportedly trying to reunite them for a big-screen take on Johnny Depp's '80s-era TV series.

But Stone's entry into "Spider-Man" threw those plans in flux, and now MTV News has heard from Stone herself that she won't be taking part in "Jump Street."

"I don't think I'm going to be part of that, but Jonah is one of my favorite people in the entire world," she told us during a chat for our Thankful Week (we named her the actress we're most thankful for in 2010).

As recently as early November, Hill was still playing coy about casting Stone. "I can't say anything to the negative or the positive of that," he told us of the possibility. "I think we'll have some cool casting announcements to make very, very soon."

Instead of an announcement about Stone, though, news soon broke that Channing Tatum had signed on to "Jump Street." And when we asked Stone if she still had plans for the flick despite her commitment to "Spider-Man," she joked, "I think Channing Tatum swept in."

So while she won't be stepping in front of the camera with Hill and Tatum on the project, she told us she can't wait to check it out. "I'm psyched to see that movie," she said. "It's going to be great."

Vintage Princess Diana Tapes Help Kate Middleton Prepare For Life As A Royal

Kate Middleton has reportedly been shown videos of the late Princess Diana in a bid to prepare her for life as a royal.

Kate, who met Prince William at Scotland’s St. Andrew’s University in 2002, will be taught about royal correspondence, public speaking, how to behave at banquets, and how to avoid the grisly fate that befell the beloved woman who would have been her mother-in-law. Palace insiders tell Us Weekly that Middleton has been “given royal assistance like no other girl has ever been given before entering the family.” In fact, the princess-to-be, 28, has been receiving instruction since 2007 to open her eyes to what marrying the future King of England will involve.

“About three years ago, palace staff started showing Kate video of Diana,” says Katie Nicholl, author of William and Harry: Behind the Palace Walls. “Video of her getting out of a car and paparazzi going berserk so that Kate would know how to deal with it. Now she already knows how this works.”

Lily Allen calls out the Daily Fail

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

British singer LILY ALLEN has launched a bitter online attack at a U.K. journalist who reported the star is planning to marry next year to help her overcome the loss of her baby

The Smile hitmaker was left devastated after losing her unborn son six months into her pregnancy in October. The tragedy was compounded when she was hospitalised with septicaemia, which can occur when foetal material left behind in the womb after a miscarriage becomes infected.

Allen has retreated to her English countryside home to grieve for her loss, and Britain's Mail on Sunday columnist Katie Nicholl claimed that she and boyfriend Sam Cooper were set to walk down the aisle in the New Year after "they realised through their grief that they absolutely adore one another and cannot live without each other".

But an angry Allen has taken aim at the writer on, launching a foul-mouthed tirade against Nicholl.

On her page, she writes, "Katie Nicholl you're a lying c**t, leave me out of your s**tty column, you know nothing.

"I'm sorry, but there's a time and a place for disrespectful, badly researched or just made up journalism. It's not now Katie Nicholl."

First Look at James Marsden on 'Modern Family'

He's mostly known for his roles in action flicks (X-Men) and romances (The Notebook). So what's Marsden doing on ABC's Modern Family? "James is hilarious," series star Jesse Tyler Ferguson (pictured lying down) says of the actor, who appears in an episode early next year as a reiki practitioner who moves in next door to Mitchell (Ferguson) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet). "Believe me, he would not have been in Mitchell and Cam's hot tub if he wasn't funny — okay, funny and hot."

The sighting comes shortly after LiLo was dropped from the movie "Inferno," with those involved claiming the move was in part because of problems landing insurance on the troubled actress. Denying any such issues, Lindsay's mom's production company co-owner Ethan Terra has since stated that Miss Lohan "is 100% insurable and all she had to do was put up money as a bond and she would be paid for her job upon completion." Terra went on to say that numerous other job offers have been received - though no decisions as to accepting a new role have been made at this time.

Everyone should be thankful for Andrew Garfield

He plastered an all-too-human face on the backstabby founding of Facebook in "The Social Network" and just might win an Oscar for his troubles. He healed our broken geeky hearts when he assumed the role of Peter Parker after the "Spider-Man" franchise collapsed unexpectedly in January. And let's not forget his powerful performance as a cloned human desperate to prove he has in a soul in the underrated adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's Booker Prize-winning novel "Never Let Me Go."

For all of these reasons — as well as for being such a damn nice fellow — Andrew Garfield is the man MTV News is most thankful for in 2010.

Just don't tell that to him. Humble as ever despite talk of awards-season love and the prospect of taking on one of pop culture's most beloved superheroes, Garfield has trouble accepting the fact that he's deserving of all the hype. A conversation with him veers through talk of insecurities, I-better-not-screw-this-up fears and the self-consciously naive hope that his life isn't about to change forever.

He is, in other words, an utterly charming guy, and we can't wait to see what he brings to the screen in 2011.

Maggie Q ("NIKITA") is the Only Non-White Lead Star on Network TV

It's still pretty pale at the top

Since the days of Bill Cosby's super-successful "Cosby Show," advocates of TV diversity have yearned for another minority-led show to find wide acceptance on network TV.

But with the cancellations of "Undercovers" and Jimmy Smits' drama "Outlaw," network prime time has once again become a world in which people of color are mostly sidekicks, best friends, work pals or members of large ensemble casts. (The CW's "Nikita" now is the only scripted network show starring a person of color who isn't in an ensemble, former Hong Kong film star Maggie Q.)

Why do network TV shows led solely by actors of color keep failing? How much of the situation is really about race? And what's the impact on viewers when people of color are mostly supporting characters, whatever the reason?

JK Rowling could win an Oscar

Novelist J. K. Rowling could be in line to win an Oscar.

For the first time, the author – worth an estimated £800 million – has been credited as producer on the latest film adaptation of her Harry Potter series of books.

This means she could walk down the red carpet to collect an Oscar for Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1, should the film win the Best Picture category.

Nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards will be announced in January, ahead of the ceremony in February.

The film earned more than £210 million when it opened last weekend, and is likely to be the highest earner in the seven-film series.

David Heyman, who has produced all the films, said: ‘Jo had the option of taking a producer credit as early as the fourth film, but she chose not to until the final two films.

'Things were coming to an end and she wanted to put her stamp on it.’

However, the mother of three has always influenced production, insisting that the films be shot in Britain with an all-British cast.

Here’s what member of the group Gerard Way had to say about their hopes to be on the billboard charts and the possibility of beating out Kanye:

"I think it’s almost in the cards for us to be number two. We’ve never been number one. We got our a** kicked by Miley Cyrus last time, back when nobody knew who she was. It was [a disappointment] at the time because I felt like we’d worked towards [being number one] and it felt like it was in the cards. We expected it – like, who can beat us? A lip syncing child, that’s who!"

Michael Jordan shits on Lebron James

So a few months ago, after ~The Decision 2010~ former Cavs star Lebron James made this commercial asking people what should he do and whining in general about how unfair it is that people are criticizing his dick move.

Cavs fans created their own response. And now someone has edited up a response from the great Michael Jordan (aka the real 23) Check it out!

Throughout the new video (which was NOT made by His Airness) Jordan briefly mentions the trials and tribulations he endured to reach the pinnacle of the sport and that maybe he did an injustice to today's players by making it seem as if it were all "flash" or "God-given talent". The original MJ bit is from an older video, but the spoof's harsh message to Lebron is still just as relevant.
