Nicki Minaj Open To Lady Gaga Collaboration

Lady Gaga is no stranger to hip-hop and R&B collaborations, lending her talents to efforts from Kid Cudi, Wale and Beyoncé. While Gaga hasn't jumped on a record with rap's reigning collabo mistress, Nicki Minaj, the Young Money lyricist says she's down to change that.

During her "RapFix Live" interview, Minaj revealed she would be interested in jumping on a track with Gaga — especially if it's guaranteed to be a monster.

"I'm inspired by her creativity," Minaj said. "The women in the game, I never say I would never work with them because, in fact, if there's an opportunity for me to work with them, and it's a way that we can kill the game and do something crazy, why would I turn that down?"

The Young Money diva added, "I love collaborating with artists. I've been a feature queen for the last year, right?"

Like Gaga, Minaj's bi-curious lyrics and zany swagger have helped beef up her hearty gay following. The "Right Thru Me" spitter said in addition to championing the struggles of the LGBT community, she stands up for all of her fans battling hate.

"It's important for me to stand up for anyone that is being ridiculed and bullied. I don't differentiate between who I'm speaking on behalf of. If three black kids ... committed suicide and I needed to speak on behalf of them, I would have spoken up," she said. "Because I think that, at the end of the day, you don't have to love everyone's lifestyle. You don't have to embrace everyone. But I do think you have to respect everyone."

Minaj, who is careening toward superstardom on the strength of her hard-hitting rhymes, reminded fans that hateful barbs can hurt more than physical jabs.

"Some people think like, 'Well, if I don't hit someone, I'm not hurting them.' But those words that you say to a person — that bullying, that ridicule — it hurts them even more," she said. "So yes, I spoke up for the gay community and I will do that for all and any of my fans if they're being tormented, because it's sad."

So, ONTD, would you love to see these to do a collaboration? Hit me up with your thoughts!

X Factor Matt hates Katie, calls her a fame hungry whore.

X Factor star Matt Cardle has reportedly branded fellow contestant Katie Waissel "fame hungry".

According to the Daily Mail, the singer denied claims that the pair were found in bed together and admitted that they are no longer on speaking terms.

He said: "That stuff about us being in bed together was absolute bulls**t. Katie's a fame hungry t**t. I can't say any more about it because nothing happened.

"I would never go near her. I'm not speaking to her, I don't have anything to do with her in the house. I've made my feelings absolutely clear and if she doesn't get it by now then she's more stupid than I thought."

Asked what Waissel could do to repair their friendship, he said: "The only thing she could do is leave the competition. I don't care if she's in or out of it, as long as she's out of my face. I'm concentrating on the competition, not all that s**t."

E. Rachel Wood Done Dating True Blood Co-stars...

... And Has Her Eyes On Ryan Gosling
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Last night, to celebrate the 35th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, producer Lou Adler called in a few favors to get stars like Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito, Evan Rachel Wood, Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, George Lopez, and Jorge Garcia (along with original cast members Barry Bostwick and Tim Curry) to perform in an all-star, Kenny Ortega–directed tribute to Rocky to benefit Paul Newman's Painted Turtle charity, which provides a camp for seriously ill children. After the show, we spoke with True Blood star Wood, who told us that her casting as Magenta in the Rocky tribute was something of a coincidence: "This was going to be my costume for Halloween, and then they asked me to do this," she said. "I can't believe this is my real hair."

But when will she get back to work on True Blood? we asked. "We're filming again in November, so I'm going to be back," she said. "It's one of the most fun shows I've ever worked on. I just want to know what happens." Then: "That set is just a love fest," said Wood, who last year was rumored to be seeing co-star Alexander Skarsgard. "I've even been there myself, so there you go. I did date one of the cast members already, so I'm done."

Still, she's not ruling anything out on the set of her next movie, George Clooney's Ides of March: "It's going to be amazing," she told us. "We're going to start shooting in February. My character gets herself into a bit of a predicament with a politician, who's played by Ryan Gosling, so I'm very excited. I've had a total crush on him forever."

George Hickenlooper, Director of 'Factory Girl,' Dead At 47

George Hickenlooper, who directed the 1991 documentary Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse (about the making of Apocalypse Now!), has died at 47. He was found in the morning hours of October 30th, in Denver, where he was preparing to premiere his latest film, Casino Jack, at the Starz Denver Film Festival. The movie stars Kevin Spacey as disgraced Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff. According to The Denver Post, Hickenlooper appears to have died of natural causes.

Hickenlooper also directed the 2006 Edie Sedgwick biopic Factory Girl, the 2003 documentary Mayor of the Sunset Strip, and the 2001 drama The Man From Elysian Fields.

He is survived by his wife and son. The late filmmaker’s cousin, Denver mayor and gubernatorial candidate John Hickenlooper, issued this statement to The Denver Post: “Shock and sadness do not begin to describe our emotions. We are devastated. George had immense creative talents and cinematic gifts, but he was so much more than that to us and all his family. His passion for life, zeal for people and unquenchable curiosity enriched everyone who had the fortune to know him. We will miss his sense of humor, his warm character and the avid encouragement he gave anyone around him. Our hearts go out to his wife, Suzanne, and his son, Charles.”

Brian Jones case not reopened

Detectives reviewing new evidence about the death of Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones have decided not to re-open the investigation.

The rock star, who was 27, is said to have drowned accidentally in the swimming pool at his home in Sussex while under the influence of drink and drugs in July 1969.

But for the past 40 years, his death has been surrounded by mystery.

Last August, Sussex Police announced the first-ever review of Jones’s death after The Mail on Sunday presented new evidence to suggesting he was murdered.

The evidence was gathered by journalist Scott Jones, who had been investigating the death for four years.

Mr Jones – no relation to the guitarist – compiled 600 pages of new testimonies from people who were at Jones’s house on the night he died.

An inquest into Jones’s death recorded a verdict of misadventure, though the post mortem report said there were no illegal drugs in his body.

In November 2008, The Mail on Sunday revealed fresh evidence from Janet Lawson, who found Jones’s body. She said she saw his minder, Frank Thorogood, jump into the pool and ‘do something to Brian’. Thorogood, a builder-turned-minder, died in 1994.

On the night of the death, Ms Lawson was interviewed at East Grinstead police station. She later claimed a senior police officer wrote her witness statement, allegedly giving a false account of the events.

Sussex Police said: ‘This has been thoroughly reviewed by Sussex Police’s Crime Policy and Review Branch but there is no new evidence to suggest that the coroner’s original verdict of “death by misadventure” was incorrect. As such, the case will not be reopened.’

Multiple Countries Believe Tricking Parents Into Thinking Their Kid's Marrying a Star is a Good Idea

An upcoming Fox take on the ever-popular "let's humiliate someone on public television" genre of TV has been hit with a lawsuit. The show's called My Parents Are Gonna Love You, and it'll feature "average people bringing home celebrity love interests to meet their parents in elaborate pranks." (Starfucking, the TV show.) As it turns out, it's not being sued by parents who felt like they were needlessly exposed on television, but because this genius concept's already been done, on an Italian show called Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. Right, more than one person had the idea of duping parents into thinking their kid was marrying a celebrity, only to reveal it as a hoax, on TV. The Morabito Picture Company alleges that, in fact, the French version - Mes Parents Vont T’Adorer! - initially stole their idea, and then licensed it to Fox. Apparently, this concept is universally appealing, transcending language and cultural barriers. Fear not though, Fox will surely pay whatever needs to be paid in order for this show to see the light of day. And lord knows we'll be watching when it does.
ONTD, would you watch this show? Which celebrity would you want your parents to think you're marrying?

Why 'Dancing with the Stars' Cheryl Burke Douses Rick Fox with Cologne!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

ET is with "Dancing with the Stars" two-time champ Cheryl Burke and her star partner Rick Fox, getting the lowdown on their Quickstep and finding out how Rick smells so good during dancing rehearsals!

Call it what you want, but it's a pre-rehearsal ritual that works wonders for Cheryl and Rick -- spraying on lots of cologne! Rick tells ET that Cheryl loves to spray him numerous times with various men's fragrances because she doesn't mind the sweat, but insists that her partners smell good.

Besides smelling great, the former NBA star says he's losing weight. "I'm losing some muscle but I'm gaining flexibility and I think my body's becoming more of a dancer's body, even if I don't really, fully, quite know how to dance yet." Rick says that nowadays he is more inclined to hit the drive-thru restaurants in search of some good comfort food.

Watch the video here (it won't imbed) for more from Rick and Cheryl as they buckle up for another nail-biting week of dancing showdowns. "Dancing with the Stars" airs Mondays and Tuesdays on ABC.

Lindsay Lohan "Victim Of Double Standard"

Producer Richard O'Sullivan has lambasted the media--and the general public--for its double standard regarding celebrity scandals, saying that if "Lindsay Lohan pulled half the stunts Charlie Sheen does, half the country would be clamoring to burn that poor girl at the stake!"

O'Sullivan, who has been trying to launch a movie project called One Night with You with Lohan in the starring role for the past year, has run up against obstacles due to his inability to get the troubled actress insured.

"It's amazing," says O'Sullivan. "Lindsay hasn't shot anyone. Charlie Sheen actually has. He SHOT Kelly Preston." (Sheen and Preston were engaged at the time and the 1990 incident was ruled an accident.)

"Lindsay hasn't been keeping entire prostitution rings in business. Charlie has. Lindsay hasn't destroyed personal property like Charlie has. Still, Lindsay's a pariah and yet when Charlie does it, it's just 'boys being boys'."

Lindsay Gets Candy Delivered To Rehab

Lindsay Lohan won't be going door-to-door asking for treats this year -- instead she's having the candy come to her.

Sources close to LiLo tell TMZ she's been receiving care packages of candy at Betty Ford from some of her closest friends. We're also told Dina Lohan, her sainted mother, is scheduled to visit today and plans to bring a few things to satisfy Lindsay's sweet tooth.

As for Halloween in Betty Ford, we're told patients aren't permitted to trick or treat from unit to unit and they don't dress up -- unless they just happened to pack a costume for their rehab stint.

That's a shame ... Lindsay would have made a great Snooki for Halloween.

Cheryl Cole 'pocketed £220,000 for 35 minute cancer charity gig'

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Cheryl Cole reportedly pocketed a ridiculous £220,000 fee to perform a 35 minute set – at a cancer charity’s fundraising event. According to The Mirror, Cheryl had to dash off after the first X Factor and Xtra Factor episodes to appear at the Next Breast Cancer Care ball.

The private event was organised by clothes giant Next at the Grosvenor hotel in aid of Breast Cancer Care and saw X Factor 2008 winner Alexandra Burke play support to her former mentor. Cheryl meanwhile earned an astonishing £6,285 per minute as she performed tracks from her debut album ‘live’ for more than 300 guests.

A source told the paper: “When she agreed to appear, no one knew it was going to clash with the first live night of X Factor. It was a mad rush getting her from the Xtra Factor set in West London to the venue in Central London.”

The show source added: “But she made it on stage at the stroke of midnight and got a standing ovation at the end of her show, which was the perfect end to a rough week.”

Controversial Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens) appears at "Rally to Restore Sanity"

Cat Stevens aka Yusuf Islam’s performance in the Rally To Restore Sanity has irked a number of people across the globe as the singer is still to come out of the Salman Rushdie controversy. The singer performed the acoustic and melodious version of ‘Peace Train’ which was interrupted by Stephen Colbert to introduce the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne.

The singer had come under heavy criticism after he showed support for the fatwa against Salman Rushdie during the Satanic Verses controversy. Later, however, Yusuf Islam tried to retract the statement saying that he was taken out of context and the statements were blown out of proportion. Salman Rushdie himself, however, explained in a statement that he was convinced that Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam wanted him dead, no matter how much he defended himself by saying that he was taken out of context.

According to Yusuf Islam, however, the controversy was created by the media and he was pulled into it unnecessarily. He explained that he was appalled at the newspaper heading that said that he wants Salman Rushdie dead. Yusuf Islam had appeared in an interview during the controversy and said that he would prefer the real thing being burned instead of the effigies in the protests. He also said that if Salman Rushdie turned up at his residence for help, he would notify the person who issued the fatwa. In spite of directly admitting that the punishment for Salman Rushdie’s crime should be death. Later he said that it was is dry British humor that got misinterpreted.

Billy Ray Cyrus Is Making A Big Mistake Trying To “Be Friends” With His Daughter

Billy Ray - it can’t be easy for Miley or any of your other kids to be dealing with the divorce from your wife of 17 years, Tish, but it will be even harder if you insist on believing that you should be Miley’s best friend, not her “dad”.

You recently told TV Guide magazine that- “my goal was always to be her best friend, the person who she wanted to talk to when the chips are down. I wanted to be THAT friend that you can talk to as you go through the journeys of your life.”

I appreciate that you want her to feel comfortable enough to discuss any subject with you, but I got to tell you Billy Ray- children want their parents to be authority figures- not friends.

Miley has plenty of friends her own age. Friends that she can share with. Bust she has only ONE set of parents. And children need different things from their parents, critical things, like discipline, that they can’t get from their friends.

Parents are there to give guidance and at times to say -”No!” No, as in- no you’re 17 and you can’t go out to bars, especially till 4 am. No, as in- you can’t walk around in a shirt that shows off your breasts and nipples. No as in- you shouldn’t be dancing around a stripper’s pole or giving lap dances to older men, or “No”- you’re 17 and you shouldn’t be groping your breasts or writhing around on your bed in your videos.
Miley needs a dad who is so concerned with her well-being that he sees her for the 17 year-old child she is and not as a money making machine that can be exploited.

Parents protects. Friends don’t. Parents drag their daughters out of harms’ way- harm that they have the experience to see, when their same age friends, do not. Miley needs a parent especially now that the stability of her family is being shaken. What she doesn’t need is a dad who wants to be her BFF! She needs a dad who will love her by setting boundries.

S.E.X.Y. Release ~Socially Conscious~ "Help Me" Video + Behind the scenes of "Nothing"

The members of N*E*R*D are going the social conscious route in their new video "Help Me," which was posted yesterday (Oct. 21) on their website.

Between black and white footage of the band performing the song, the video is spliced with news clips from the 1960s and today, creating a collage of war-torn American historical images. From civil rights protests to the current war raging in the Middle East and the economy, N*E*R*D is calling attention to social problems plaguing our country.

The song "Help Me" is off N*E*R*D's upcoming album "Nothing," which frontman Pharrell Williams told Billboard.com is "a time capsule," as well as reminiscent of politically conscious bands of the 1960s and 1970s. "Nothing" hits retailers Nov. 2.

CHER + ZAIN = OTP!!!!!

Cher Lloyd has found love with fellow X Factor finalist Zain Malik - despite Simon Cowell's 'love ban' amongst the show's contestants.

The fragile 17-year-old has been trying to keep her blossoming romance with the One Direction heart-throb - also 17 - secret to avoid the show boss's wrath.

But it has emerged that Simon found out about it almost as soon as they got together - but has chosen to ignore it rather than give them a rollicking over the relationship.

Cowell issued an edict early on in the competition that he would not tolerate any physical contact between contestants this year.

But a source told the News Of The World: 'Cher and Zain are very much an item. Neither of them are your typical X Factor contestant. They're not prepared to change their image or compromise who they are.'

The pair apparently got together after they'd got through the Judges' Houses stage of the show and made the live finals.

Since living together in the contestant's £3.5million rented mansion in Mill Hill, north London, the pair have become less guarded however.
Last week, they apparently became the talk of the house when they kissed in front of fellow contestants.

Al Gough Talks About ABC's Reboot of "Charlie's Angels"

Miami is officially the hottest crime-fighting town on television. See: CSI: Miami, Dexter, and Burn Notice. Since you can’t have too many guardian angels keeping the peace in Miami (especially now that evil pro basketball racketeer LeBron James lives there, not to mention the occasional mischief making visit from those Kardashian sisters), TV’s sexiest and clearly most sinful setting will soon be home to the three more sentinels: Charlie’s Angels, a new television version of the classic 70s action drama slated for next year on ABC. Guiding the project will be the guys who successfully put young Clark Kent on the road to Superman in Smallville, the producing team of Al Gough and Miles Millar. Drew Barrymore—who produced and starred in two big screen translations—will serve as exec producer. Why set the show in the present-day Miami? In order to help the new show distinguish itself from its predecessors while remaining true to its core values. “Sun and surf are in the Charlie’s Angels DNA,” says Gough. “But we didn’t want to revisit Los Angeles, since that was done in both the original TV series and the movie series.”

10 Reasons Why Zombies Are Good for TV

Two new TV shows, 'The Walking Dead' and 'Dead Set,' prove why the zombie craze is far from dead

Zombies are taking a bite out of television just in time for Halloween.

First up is IFC's "Dead Set." The five-part British original, which made a splash across the pond a couple of years ago, had its American debut at midnight on Monday, Oct. 25, and will air at that time through Friday, Oct. 29. The network will broadcast a marathon of the series beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.

As campy as it is gory, "Dead Set" lampoons the reality TV world of "Big Brother" by making the show's house the safest place to hide when frightening zombies take over Britain.

Garnering even more buzz is "The Walking Dead," AMC's scary comic-book adaptation. It premieres at 10 p.m. Oct. 31 and follows a small-town sheriff, his family and a band of survivors in a zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic world.

The reanimated dead aren't only alive and well on the small screen, but in pop culture as a whole via international gatherings called zombie walks and in best-selling books such as "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" by Seth Grahame-Smith. Meanwhile, the University of Baltimore is the latest school to offer a course on zombies. Similar classes have been taught at Columbia College and Rice University.

As zombies heat up everything their cold, dead bodies come in contact with, it only makes sense that the genre would infect TV for the better. Collapse )

Can my college offer courses on zombies? No because UCF is lame.

Mega Man fan film creator making a Sonic movie.

I think we all remember Eddie Lebron's Mega Man fan movie, which was as damn close to an actual Mega Man live-action film that the world is ever going to see. He is now at it again on a second indie film project and this time he's going to tackle Sonic. While he let the movie drop previously ScrewAttack has the official announcement where you can hear Lebron talk about what he's planning to do with the movie.

I can't say I've ever desired a live-action Sonic movie. A giant hedgehog talking with actual people isn't really my idea of awesome, but Lebron did do a great job with Mega Man and he seems pretty confident it will work here. More importantly he's landed Jaleel White to voice Sonic. If you grew up with the Sonic cartoon then that is Sonic's voice for you, whether you like it or not.

Think this movie can work?

Disney Channel star Selena Gomez received her high school diploma earlier in the year, so is it possible that she is looking at college? Even in the midst of making her career as a performer, the "Wizards of Waverly Place" star could try to look at a way to build up some long-term preservation for her career just in case she wants to step away from music at some point.

A new report by BSCKids suggests that Gomez has looked into the possibility of taking classes online at Northwestern University, but nothing is confirmed. If she does decide to mix it up, this would make her different than many other young performers out there right now. Both Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift have decided against college as a means to progress their career -- at least for now. Meanwhile, Emma Watson and Dakota Fanning are two young stars from the movie business who have actually found quite a bit to like from the university environment.

"I See The Light" from Tangled

The soundtrack for Tangled doesn't come out until two weeks before the movie, but here's a link to "I See the Light" sung by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi.

"Tangled" features five new songs and a score by eight-time Oscar®-winning composer/songwriter Alan Menken ("The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," "Pocahontas" and "Enchanted"). Lyrics are by Glenn Slater, a Tony® and Grammy® nominee for his work on "The Little Mermaid."

"It's always fun to go to the source material and find some hip, contemporary way to tackle that story and yet keep a timeless quality," says Menken. "It’s really exciting to try new vocabularies. One of the first things I did was to read the story of Rapunzel and try to figure out what’s going to be fresh about it."

Menken concludes, "Much of our process as songwriters on this movie is to say we need a particular kind of moment and ask 'Can we build a highway that's going to get us to that moment?' There’s no more collaborative form. Our challenge is really to find the voice within the story that sings."

Blistering barnacles! What a mystery...or not.

Empire Magazine has been putting up snippets of an image here for the past day or two, piquing some people's curiosity. So what could the final image be? According to First Showing.net (among other websites and people on message boards freaking out,) it's a first look at Spielberg's next movie, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.

We're now about 14 months away from the release of Peter Jackson & Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin. Although we're still a long ways away, I've been surprised that we haven't seen a photo from the animated movie, especially because they finished shooting back in March of last year. That said, Tintin isn't a popular character here in the US, but is throughout the rest of the world, so it only makes sense that Sony and Paramount (co-distributing) chose Empire to debut the very first look at the CGI character. However, we're not fully there yet, as they just kicked off a nifty little visual countdown for the reveal on their website.

Seen above are four small portions of bigger images [Note: this wasn't written today!] as revealed on their site: empireonline.com/reveal/. The four little teaser images are just tidbits from what looks like a bigger photo of the CGI Tintin, voiced and modeled by Jamie Bell. As far as we can tell, from left to right: Tintin's yellow overcoat, Snowy's hair (his dog), his brown pants, and his blue sweater that he normally wears (using this photo for reference). Empire is playing coy and not mentioning anything anywhere, so we don't know how or when the rest of the photos will be revealed, but we're pretty damn certain this is will be the first photo from The Adventures of Tintin.

As a recap, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn is directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Peter Jackson, with a script co-written by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright, and Joe Cornish. The cast includes Jamie Bell as Tintin, Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock, Simon Pegg & Nick Frost as Thompson & Thompson, Daniel Craig as the villain Red Rackham, and Toby Jones as Silk. The animated movie, in the works at Weta Digital, will hit US theaters on December 23rd, 2011. We'll let you know when the final photo is revealed!

How to Survive Halloween: A Movie Lover's Cheat Sheet

Halloween can certainly be a dangerous time of year, whether you're a drunk teenager with obscured vision on your way to a kegger or a child wandering the streets asking strangers for candy. (Or, if you're the adult who's on the road or at home and has to deal with them.) But real Halloween will never be as dangerous as the movie Halloween, so when you're looking for safety tips to get you through the holidays, just pop in a movie -- they've already thought of every worst-case scenario.

I Guess This Bra Doesn't Have Hydraulics

More sexxxy pictures of Christina Hendricks on the set of Drive were released yesterday, and as you can see, her tits look like they just found a quarter on the ground. I know if I want to be one of the cool kids I have to say that this chick is hot and the ideal of what every woman should look like, but I played saxophone in junior high. What is this "cool" you speak of?

Surprised sex symbol Benedict Cumberbatch

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Benedict Cumberbatch is surprised that playing Sherlock Holmes has made him a sex symbol.

The 'Sherlock' actor admitted he finds it bizarre that he has suddenly become the focus of female attention since taking on the role of the fictional detective in the BBC One drama.

He said: "What's so funny is that Holmes is asexual. So when you think that he's an asexual sociopath who's pretty dismissive of relationships, it's extraordinary to become a sex symbol playing him. It must be that treat-then-mean, keep-them-keen thing."

The 34-year-old actor also revealed he loved working with his girlfriend Olivia Poulet when she guest starred on the first season of the acclaimed series but explained how he played a cruel joke on one of the crew members on set.

He said: "It was great working with her. I played a rotten gag on a member of the crew who'd forgotten she was my girlfriend- I pretended to come on to her. When I told him the truth, he said, "I thought a lot less of you because you had talked about how you loved Olivia and then you were chatting up that bird."

This post is mainly an excuse to see if anyone else geeked/is geeking out over "Sherlock." I know it's not new to UK ONTD'ers but we're just getting it here in the States on PBS. P.S. Martin Freeman looks good.

EDIT: apologies for the "nobody" tag. I would remove it if I could. Now I know he's not nobody!

Love And Other Impossible Pursuits posters & promo stills

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Love And Other Impossible Pursuits is the forgotten movie. Natalie jumped in to save the production after J-Lo dropped out. The film got decent reviews after it played in Toronto a couple years ago, but a drama with a (it seems) slightly unlikeable main character is going to struggle to find distribution in the current state of the industry.

The film has landed in some foreign markets but I think they're maybe waiting on Black Swan's success before trying again for North American distribution.

News on the Yusuf Islam controversy - Salman Rushdie and others react

Whereas criticisms of Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens) - who is accused of having supported the death fatwa against "blasphemous" writer Salman Rushdie - appearing at the "Rally to Restore Sanity" have so far only come from the conservative corner in the US, prominent UK liberals have now voiced their disapproval.

Journalist Nick Cohen (The Observer) writes on Standpoint Magazine:

"Jon Stewart's Rally for Sanity yesterday featured Yusuf Islam aka Cat Stevens singing "Peace Train". Islam/Stevens previously showed his commitment to peace and sanity by saying that death was the appropriate punishment for Salman Rushdie's "blasphemy".
What "Cat" ought to have done was apologise to Rushdie and commit himself to the right to criticise power in whatever form it takes, but he has not and American leftists have yet to learn that they cannot be a little bit liberal. They can't denounce the idiocy of Fox and ignore the idiocies of religion. Maybe they will never learn.

I'm close to giving up."

He then passes along the reactions of Salman Rushdie himself:
