BONUS: "Live Like There's No Tomorrow" from the movie Ramona and Beezus by Selena Gomez & the Scene
A woman charged with conspiring to bilk actor John Stamos of hundreds of thousands of dollars had a brief romantic fling with him when she was a 17-year-old high school student during a spring break trip to Florida in 2004, an attorney said Monday.
Defense lawyer Sarah Henderson made the allegation during opening arguments in the U.S. District Court trial of Allison Coss and Scott Sippola, even though the presiding judge last week ruled that testimony about whether the "ER" and "Full House" star had an intimate relationship with Coss would not be allowed.
Opening statements are not testimony and cannot be considered by jurors as evidence but allow attorneys to outline the case they will present.
Stamos, who attended the trial's opening day, declined comment to The Associated Press but is expected to testify.
His attorney, William Sobel, issued a statement through publicist Matt Polk that said: "The allegations made today in the courtroom by the defendants' attorneys during opening statements will not be proven because they are simply untrue."

After casting Andrew Garfield as the new Peter Parker, Columbia Pictures still has to find actors to take other main roles in untitled Spider-Man reboot. Recently, two names occurred as the potential depicter of Harry Osborn.
IMDB mentions Anton Yelchin as the actor who will play the character though it is still listed as a rumor. Meanwhile, Elena Satine, who has auditioned and is campaigning for the role of Mary Jane Watson, proposed Alden Ehrenreich for the same part. "Garfield is Spidey!!!! Now Alden Ehrenreich should get a nice consolation prize (cough HARRY cough) and we're rolling," she tweeted as quoted by The Playlist.
Both Yelchin and Ehrenreich were previously put among the contenders to play the coveted role of Spider-Man before Garfield nabs it. The former once played Kyle Reese in "Terminator Salvation", while the latter has his most notable role in "Tetro".
Shooting for "Spider-Man" reboot is expected to be kicked off later this year with Marc Webb on board to serve behind the lens. Since 26-year-old Andrew Garfield is cast for the lead role, there has been rumor that the story will follow Peter Parker as a college boy instead of a high school student. This new "Spider-Man" film is slated for June 3, 2011 U.S. release.
Here is Elena Satine (the girl who auditioned for the role of MJ). She's pretty hot:
I still think they should cast a black girl as MJ. XD
Cheryl Cole's family relieved as singer gets better
Cheryl Cole’s family have spoken of their relief as the singer continues to improve in her battle with malaria.
Dad Gary Tweedy has been phoning X Factor judge Cheryl, 27, regularly since she was taken to hospital 10 days ago.
Painter and decorator Gary, 47, told the Mirror: “She has been in a bad way and we have obviously been worried. But she’s on the mend now.
“We don’t know how long she’ll be in hospital, I don’t think the doctors know. We’re just all so relieved she’s all right.”
Gary, who split from Cheryl’s mum Joan 16 years ago, says doctors are hopeful his daughter will recover fully. She has been on oxygen and a drip. The illness also left her weak and jaundiced.
It is believed she contracted the deadly plasmodium falciparum strain on holiday in Tanzania last month with boyfriend Derek Hough, 25.
Doctors have told her to not work until September at the earliest.

The teen-friendly retailer — accused of lifting designs from everyone from Donna Karen to Diane von Furstenberg — has introduced a new line of activewear: maternity clothing.
You’ve heard, right. The racks of Forever 21 — heavily-frequented by the high school set — are no longer just for teeny-boppers and twentysomethings looking for an outfit for a night out on the town. Last summer the frugal brand debuted Faith 21 for the BBWs. Now 21 is catering to Mommies-To-Be who want to show off their bump without breaking the bank. The fashion chain has launched their own maternity collection, aptly-titled Love 21 Maternity — but the move is stirring controversy among some fashion mavens, who accuse the popular clothing co. of marketing the collection toward teenage mothers.
According to a scoop from TheGoss.com, Forever 21’s maternity line is sold exclusively in cities across California, Texas, Alaska, Arizona, and Utah — the states with the highest teen pregnancy rates. Coincidence? We think not. We suppose we shouldn’t be surprised. This is, after all, the same establishment that considers anything larger than a size 10 “plus-sized.”
For those who are interested: Love 21 Maternity features a complete collection of jeans, leggings, and tops all priced at under $20.
LONDON - Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp brought partner Vanessa Paradis a pair of shoes once worn by the legendary Marilyn Monroe.
The singer-actress is a huge fan of the late fashion icon and was thrilled when the actor gave her the Ferragamo-designed footwear, reports contactmusic.com.
“He spoils me. He actually bought me the Marilyn Monroe shoes. Monroe’s someone who touches me really deeply. I truly admire both actress and the singer that she was. I love ‘Lazy’ and so many of her songs. She had a velvety voice,”
said Paradis, who didn’t wear them.
Yes that absolutely IS Paul Rudd and he is getting arrested. Though by the looks of these pictures it might be by the fashion police, eek!
Rudd is seen here as he shoots scenes for his new movie, My Idiot Brother on location in Ossining, New York on Monday, July 12th, 2010. You gotta love that sweater and long hair duo, I think he is trying to compete with Gerard Butler who currently also looks a hot mess on set!
My Idiot Brother is an indie comedy that will have Rudd play “an idealist, dealing with his overbearing mother, who crashes into the homes of his three ambitious sisters and, in succession, brings truth, happiness and a sunny disposition into their lives while also wreaking havoc.”
Rashida Jones re-teams with Rudd in this Jesse Peretz directed film along with Elizabeth Banks and Emily Mortimer.

Rihanna has reportedly been in contact with her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.
The Te Amo singer, who was assaulted by Brown before last years Grammy Awards is said to have spoken to Chris over the telephone.
A source told heat magazine: "It's been almost a year since they last spoke, but Rihanna felt like she could try to be friends with Chris again."
"Seeing how emotional he was on set [at the BET Awards] really touched her. She'd never seen him like that before."
They added: "Chris told her that he felt like he's grown up in the past year. He's said he's so happy to be back in touch with her."
"They were each other's first love and he's missed her so much. Rihanna knows that if she wanted him back, he'd be there in a second."
Despite being allegedly in contact with the I Can Transform Ya' singer again, the pair have not been in touch since Brown was sentenced to 180 days of community labour and given five years probation for attacking Rihanna.
The couple are said to have exchanged a few text messages, since their telephone conversation with a pal of RiRi's, claiming she is keen to meet Brown face-to-face.
However, under the terms of Chris' probation, he must stay at least 100 yards away from the singer for five years.
Kelly Osbourne says jail is just the wake up call Lindsay Lohan needs.
Writing in her weekly Closer magazine column, Kelly, who was once friends with the troubled actress, said: "Lindsay Lohan’s been sentenced to 90 days in jail after failing to attend alcohol education classes that were part of a probation order. My heart breaks for her, because we used to be friends and I hate to see her in such a bad place."
She added: "The reality is, if you break the law you have to pay the price. I’m really hoping this will be the wake-up call she needs to sort her life out and get back to the old Lindsay we all love. She’s a really talented actress and I’d love to see her get her life back on track. I have to say though; writing “F*** You” on her fingernail for the court hearing was a really silly move."
Yankees owner George Steinbrenner died this morning after suffering a massive heart attack, the Associated Press reports.
Steinbrenner celebrated his 80th birthday on July 4.
Steinbrenner's micromanaging on the field and penchant for pursuing high-priced free agents -- and later taking a key role in escalating their salaries -- earned him a reputation as one of the most controversial figures in sports.
During Steinbrenner's 37-year ownership of the club, the longest tenure in Bronx Bombers' history, the Yankees won 7 World Series titles and 11 penants.

Talk about a hair-raiser!
Monday night's episode of Real Housewives of New Jersey finally showed the dramatic brawl that resulted in Danielle Staub having her hair extensions ripped out by Jacqueline Laurita's 19-year-old daughter, Ashley Holmes.
Admitted Holmes on Facebook Monday, "YIKES... not one of my finest moments in life."
The episode was filled with bleeped-out words, broken high-heels and chases after Staub refused to greet enemy Teresa Giudice. Police were called to the scene, and appear on camera taking statements.
Giudice even came up with an infamous new phrase: "coke f--king whore!" (She's usually known for the insult "prostitution whore.")
Laurita weighed in on Twitter late last week, "It's like at train-wreck you can't look away from... We are a disgrace! It's bad. Shameful but... a little bit humorous, dare I say, in parts. Hope we can still be friends. Lol!"
Staub testified in NJ municipal court last December that she "felt threatened' by Giudice and Laurita, and had been "pushed and scratched." Holmes was issued a summons on charges of harassment and simple assault (of which she was found guilty; the harassment charge was dropped), and ordered to pay a $189 fine.
"Dexter" is adding new blood into the crime mix.
The Showtime serial killer drama has tapped Peter Weller as the latest guest star to visit the murderous Miami, reports Deadline.
Weller, who had guest starred as Alastair Peck on "Fringe," will join "Dexter" for eight of the dozen episodes this upcoming fifth season. He'll play a Miami Metro cop who gets entangled in an internal affairs investigation.
Of course, we also remember Weller most fondly for the titular role in the "RoboCop" films. ("I'll buy that for a dollar!")
It's a season chock full of possible killers, victims, law enforcement and other guest stars. Previously announced are Jonny Lee Miller who's associated with Julia Stiles. Also in on the fun is Shawn Hatosy and Maria Doyle Kennedy, who'll be nannying for Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall).
"Dexter" Season 5 premieres on Sept. 25.

The Hills may be coming to a close this week, but things are just heating up for Audrina Patridge. Following in the stylish footsteps of other reality superstars like Kim Kardashian and Nicole Richie, Audrina is taking on the role of Bongo girl! Come fall, Audrina will front the affordable denim brand in its fall ad campaign. And even though she’s used to having a camera capture her every move, being a sexy siren at Bongo’s New York City shoot turned out to be no easy task for the reality star.
“I’ve never done anything like this,” Audrina tells PEOPLE exclusively. “[Photograher] Tony Duran shoots supermodels so he had me jumping through the air and just letting loose and not worrying about posing.”
Though it took a bit of warming up before Audrina could get in bombshell mode, getting to play dress up with some of her favorite items from Bongo’s fall collection definitely helped. “I’ve always loved skinny jeans but I also love the boot cut,” Audrina says. “I’ll roll them up and wear cute little flats or heels and a nice top just to kind of change them up.”
And what could be a better fit for the brand than a denim connoisseur who admits to having “probably over 100″ pairs of jeans? Bongo will be exclusively available at Sears and Kmart for back to school.
Tell us: What do you think of Audrina’s new role for Bongo?

Eva Mendes dons Dolce & Gabbana for Michael Thompson in his New York City studio for the August 2010 cover spread of Allure, on newsstands July 20. Here are some choice quotes from the 36-year-old actress:
On her public image: “I don’t want ‘sexy’ to be my defining characteristic”
On her school yearbook photos: “One of the benefits of having a big smile and big teeth is that if you just smile you can look happy”
On a double standard existing when it comes to nudity in Hollywood: “[When] other actresses who aren’t thought of, maybe, as being quite as attractive do full-frontal, they’re called brave. Nobody has ever said, ‘Eva, you’re so brave for doing full-frontal nudity.’ Just because I’m attractive doesn’t mean it’s not still scary. Why am I not brave?”

FORMER Spice Girls singer Melanie "Mel B" Brown is being sued by a man who claims she physically attacked him after mistaking him for a paparazzo.
Real estate worker Amado Aguirre said he was taking pictures of a home he was hired to appraise last December, when he was intimidated and then set upon by Brown, her husband, Stephen Belafonte, and a member of their staff, entertainment website TMZ reported. The $1.5 million lawsuit alleges that the trio broke Mr Aguirre's hand and caused neck and back injury, having confused him for a celebrity photographer.
He is seeking $1 million in punitive damages and a further $747,000 in lost earnings, medical expenses and general damages, TMZ reported. Brown, 35, was given the nickname Scary Spice while performing with the Spice Girls because of her brash attitude and outrageous fashion sense.
She now lives in Los Angeles and appeared in the fifth season of US TV reality show Dancing with the Stars in 2007.
Apparently she sat on him?
Anderson Cooper has really done it now.
The Church of Scientology has gotten aggressive with its campaign in the wake of Cooper's week-long "Scientology: A History of Violence," which aired at the end of March. While that was some time ago, a few months is apparently the amount of time it takes to create the very unusual 95-page glossy publication Freedom magazine handed out on the street Monday morning in front of the CNN offices in Manhattan. The majority of it's content has been posted online here for a little while now.
Freedom, "published by the Church of Scientology since 1968," devotes the entire issue -- and accompanying 30 minute DVD -- to a attempted takedown of the CNN anchor, the "AC360" crew, and the interview subjects featured in the series. (Please do yourself a favor and check out Cooper's "statement" at 11:30 in this incredible video.)
As noted in their video, the Church of Scientology now owns its own printing facilities to manufacture publications like these. And Cooper is not the only journalist to be targeted by the group. In 2009, Freedom went "inside the St. Petersburg Times" and in 2007 "exposed" the BBC program "Panorama."

Moviefone is looking for fans to submit questions for an upcoming Unscripted for 'The Other Guys'. The Unscripted will have Mark Wahlberg, Will Ferrell and the movie's director Adam McKay interviewing each other with fan questions:
When a metropolis is in danger, the public relies on its respected heroes to protect and serve them. But lurking in the shadows behind all the glory are the "other guys."
Directed by Adam McKay -- known for his work on 'Talledega Nights' and 'Anchorman' -- 'The Other Guys' is the story of Detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) and Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell), a haplessly unskilled cop duo who struggle to fight crime (and be taken seriously). The clueless cops aspire to reach the acclaim of New York City's most respected officers (played by Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson), and end up fumbling their way into a dangerous case.
'The Other Guys' hits theaters on August 6, and we want our readers to have a chance to grill Wahlberg, Ferrell and director McKay. Awkward hilarity is the name of the game in 'The Other Guys,' and you can be sure to expect just that when the three of them sit down for our cameras.
Wahlberg, Ferrell and McKay will get together for our Unscripted interview series, which means they'll be asking each other fan questions and very likely pushing each others' buttons. Here's your chance to ask them whatever's on your mind: Submit a question for them in the comments [on the original Moviefone post here] by July 16 at noon ET. Don't forget to include your name and city...

Danielle and I are not friends. We are cast members. We are on the same show. We are expected to interact. Do I wish Danielle was off the show and Dina was back on? Yes, yes, yes! But the reality is, Danielle is on the show and we have to see her at least once in awhile while we're filming. Otherwise, what's the point of the show? I saw her at the fashion show, and I wanted to clear the air. If I didn't then, I would have to the next time I saw her. Or I guess I could just smile and not say anything ever, but that's not me, and that's not the show. We say what other people just think. If we didn't, and you weren't lucky enough to be as psychic as Sarai, you would have nothing to watch. Our lives and our interactions wouldn't make sense.
So, I live my life, I have my baby, I take care of my kids, clean my house, and work on my cookbook, just like a normal housewife. But I have to hear about Danielle and her drama every single day in the town I live in. Like I said on Andy Cohen’s show, they tell me at the grocery store that Danielle is saying I broke all the windows on her car. Yeah, in between driving Gia to gymnastics and cuddling Audriana, I drive around town acting crazy. Oh wait, that's Danielle. Danielle who's been caught on camera even stalking us and threatening us. And that's just one tiny example of hundreds and hundreds, for years now. It's literally been years. You can only take so much. I'm going to tell you a little secret now about being well-known. Whether it's because you're on a TV show, or you're rich, just won the lottery, the most successful person in your town, or just super popular - if you stand out and people know your name, there is an entire class of subhumans who will descend upon you with their lawyers. Anyone with a crayon and $200 can file a bullsh!t lawsuit against you. And you have to pay to defend yourself from the crazy. Ex-boyfriends, ex-partners, ex-landscapers. Ask Kate Gosselin, Lady Gaga, Oprah, the chick who wrote Harry Potter, Paula Deen, Kid Rock, the president of your local bank... anyone you've ever heard of basically. The downsides of fame that no one talks about are the stalkers and the lawsuits. If it's not a lawsuit, it's the reputation of your business or made-up stories about your past from people you've never even met. And for some reason, those people, the liars and the lowlifes, don't get punished for lying and damaging your business, your reputation or your family. And of course, the press only reports the lies, because that's what sells. So I do not take it lightly when Danielle goes out of her way to insert herself in my business – like she has with everyone else – for the sole purpose of spreading lies or damaging my family. If you knew the amount of b.s. I've had to wade through because of her "anonymous" phone calls and letters and lies...

In youth-centric Hollywood, birthdays are sometimes met with mixed emotions. But I've found the best way that anyone can embrace any birthday is to remember how fortunate they are to be growing another year older and use it as an opportunity to give back.
That's why this year I'm Giving Up My Birthday - happily and readily - for children in need by supporting the nonprofit World of Children Awards in their tireless efforts to improve the lives of children worldwide.Around the globe, a staggering number of children have precious few birthdays at all. The numbers are truly heartbreaking - each year more than ten million children won't even reach their fifth birthday because they will die from preventable causes like treatable illnesses or a lack of clean water.
That's why the World of Children Awards' work is so extraordinary, and so needed. Dubbed by the media as the "Nobel Prize© for Child Advocacy," the World of Children Awards searches the globe for extraordinary individuals who are spearheading organizations that dramatically improve childrens' lives and amplifies their efforts by providing vital funding and recognition to expand their impact.

Muse have appeared on all three soundtracks to the Twilight films but Chris Wolstenholme from the band has likened it to "selling your soul".
The bassist told Newsbeat: "I'm not sure how cool it is to be on those kind of things but sometimes you've just got to get your music out there in different ways."
With the films breaking box office records Chris admits it has meant a big boost for the band Stateside: "It's very difficult in America because you don't have anything like Radio 1, nothing is national. "You have to take every opportunity you get over there and sometimes you have to sell your soul."
Twilight writer Stephenie Meyer is a big fan of the band and she has admitted that Muse inspired her writing.
Chris watched the first film which he "quite enjoyed" but admits it's not his "cup of tea" and hasn't watched any of the others.
He admits there was a bit of confusion over how their track Neutron Star Collision would appear in Eclipse.
He said: "When we were in the studio writing it, one minute they said they wanted to use it in the end credits, then they said they wanted to use it in another scene. "Then it was another scene and in the end we were like, 'Do what you want with it, we don't care any more'."

Mega-stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page stop by our studio to discuss their psychological thriller 'Inception' and turn our interview into a therapy session of sorts where we find out how well Ellen plays with others and what Leo's crazy dreams are all about.
For a movie that takes place in "four different stages of the human subconscious" and was like "a giant therapy session" to film, you might expect an interview to be a little "heavy." It is (in a good way)! The two co-stars give insightful and thoughtful answers to questions you may need a college degree, or to see the movie first, to understand. We suggest watching this now and then again after you've checked out the film (or completing a two-year associates program at the online university of your choice).
Ellen answers the question on everyone's mind, about what it's like to work with so many talented and intimidating actors; but what we really can't wait to see the crazy white jumpsuits that made her feel like she was in a Back Street Boys video. Just when you thought you couldn't like Leonardo DiCaprio any more, he shows his down-to-earth side, answering a question about drawing parallels between the film and life as a celebrity. With further modesty, Leo explains that even superstars get nervous, as he retells one of his vivid dreams brought on by the anxiety of the impending press junket for the film -- you'll have to let him describe in his own words.
Sit back and enjoy our 'Inception' Unscripted with Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page.

"And when you vote against me / from the capitol in DC / can't you see that you create / a world of hate / Should feel ashamed / Should feel ashamed / you're a homo / no one to blame / no on to blame / you're a homo," Vine sings to the tune of Gaga's "Alejandro" as she points at pictures of Gov. Charlie Crist and other right-leaning politicians rumored to be gay.
Crist has long been hounded by rumors that he's at least a switch hitter, though those rumors seem to have died down a bit now that he's running as an independent for Senate against even-more-right-leaning Republican Marco Rubio. Funny how that works, huh?
Warning, if you thought the original Gaga video was NSFW this version probably is too.
A third tape in which Mel Gibson purportedly threatens his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, has emerged, just a day after a second tape surfaced on RadarOnline.com. During Gibson’s alleged rant, the 54-year-old actor accuses Grigorieva of using him for his money and says he owns her, in addition to berating the former couple’s nanny and referring to her with a racial epithet. Grigorieva, in response, states that Gibson controls her “like a marionette” and that she “walks on eggshells” around him. The L.A. Sheriff’s department is currently investigating allegations of domestic abuse against Gibson.

Universal has released a new featurette from Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Called “A Look Inside,” the featurette has a bit of new footage, but the best part if watching Wright talk about the movie and comparing it to a musical. His explains when emotion gets too high in a musical, people break into song. In Scott Pilgrim, people fight. He also explains how the film starts in the real world but it shifts in tone once Michael Cera’s character meets Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). The featurette also has a few other members of the cast.
While we’ve covered this film endlessly over the past year, I still cannot wait to see this movie. Remember, if you’re going to Comic-Con, the entire cast of Scott Pilgrim will be in Hall H and designing t-shirts for the fans. Don’t miss out.
Danielle Staub’s lawyer tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively that Danielle plans legal action against Teresa Giudice and Jacqueline Laurita’s daughter Ashley Holmes, among others, for their wild attack on Danielle, which featured on last night’s ‘RHONJ’ episode.
Hell hath no fury like Danielle Staub attacked by a pack of raging Housewives!
The star of The Real Housewives of New Jersey is still furious over the November attack that left her emotionally bruised and with one less hair extension.
We told you earlier about the July 12 episode documenting the ridiculous and almost gang like fight instigated by Teresa Giudice, which ended with Jacqueline Laurita’s 19-year-old daughter Ashley Holmes ripping out Danielle’s hair. But HollywoodLife.com can exclusively reveal that Danielle is suing the women involved at the superior court in Passaic County, NJ.
“I’ve never seen anything like this,” says Danielle’s defense attorney Paul Giblin. “We are going to use this footage and prepare a case against these women. We are seeking assault and battery charges, defamation of character and punitive damages as well.”
But that’s not all: Paul is going to do everything he can to make sure that Danielle remains safe from the other housewives.( Collapse )
The world was shocked and devastated when Michael Jackson suddenly died back in June of 2009, but now his tomb is being vandalized by his fans.
The King of Pop’s final resting place has been defaced with messages such as “Miss you sweet angel,” and “Keep the dream alive,” and the folks at Forest Lawn Memorial Park aren’t too pleased.
According to a report, Forest Lawn is trying to keep the tomb accessible as much as possible, but that all may be coming to an end.
A rep from the Park told press, “Activity such as this, is a prime example why we are evaluating the level of access to the various entrances of the Great Mausoleum.
Take a good look at the photo up top. One of the three studmuffins—okay, two studmuffins and one very handsome young man—will come tumbling out of the closet on 90210 this fall.
And this isn’t some sort of angst-fueled, bi-curious sweeps arc a la Adrianna’s season 2 flirtation with Rumer Willis. We will learn that the straight acting character in question—let the record show that we’re referring to Matt Lanter’s recovering rebel Liam, Michael Steger’s smart and tenderhearted Navid, and Trevor Donovan’s tennis pro Teddy—is actually gay.
How can I be so sure? Well, for starters, one of the show’s producers is confirming it. “We want to address the issue in a real and relatable way,” says co-EP Jennie Urman, who says the coming out plot is but one of several “great storylines” fans can look forward to in season 3.
But let’s face it: They gay plot’s the one everyone will be talking about. Feel free to get a jump on the discussion—and weigh in on the $90,210 question (is it Liam, Navid, or Teddy?)—in the comments section below!
My pick would be the guy on the far left. But I don't watch this show and probably won't just because some hot character takes it up the ass. Just thought I'd share.
You know who are awesome? Old people are awesome. Especially old, brilliant, prolific artists who don’t give a damn what inside information they drop in public — or how they drop it. Take Ray Bradbury, the legendary 89-year-old author whose Fahrenheit 451 film rights belong to...Mel Gibson. Awkward! And of course Bradbury has a funny (if brief) story about it, which he recently shared via Skype with a crowd in Chicago.
The interview comes from Sunday’s Siskel Center screening of Francois Truffaut’s 1966 Fahrenheit adaptation. Bradbury knows as well as the rest of us that we’ll never see Gibson’s version in his or probably any of our lifetimes, and his pragmatic status report might honestly be the most palatable fallout to date from the whole Gibson/Grigorieva horror show. Thanks for keeping it real, Ray.

A few days ago, the city of Cleveland lost a truly great and important man. And I'm not talking about LeBron James. A hundred years from now, few--other than a few sports nerds--will remember him as much more than statistics on a long ago basketball court.
They will, however, remember Harvey Pekar, whose life and works will surely remain an enduring reference point of late 20th and early 21st century cultural history. Like those other giants of their eras, Twain, Whitman, Dos Passos, Kerouac, Kesey, the times he lived in cannot adequately be remembered without him.

It says something that the title The Hunchback of Notre Dame is far more recognised than the actual title of Victor Hugo's novel, which is Notre Dame de Paris. There have been at least a dozen film versions before: Lon Chaney, Charles Laughton, Anthony Quinn and Anthony Hopkins have all played the misshapen bellringer Quasimodo in various projects, and Tom Hulce voiced him for the 1996 Disney cartoon. But there's never quite been a really faithful adaptation of Hugo's bleak source material, in which, in a spoilerific nutshell, practically everyone ends up dead.

As Eminem's Recovery moves toward yet another week at the top of the Billboard album chart, his "Love the Way You Lie" also maintains its assault on radio and the digital realm (as of this writing, it stood as the most-downloaded song on iTunes). It seems poised to top Katy Perry's "California Gurls" this week and take its place at the front of the line on the Billboard Hot 100. That would give Eminem his second consecutive chart-topper, following the success of "Not Afraid."

Blockbuster was once the mecca of rentals. While indie metropolitan stores may have always reigned supreme in terms of stock and scope, Blockbuster was the "it" locale for the rest of the country. It wasn't so long ago when stores would be packed on a Friday evening as people rushed to grab the new releases, and shelves stocked sure-to-be-there bets -- films that weren't guaranteed because no one was going to the store, but because they'd have huge piles of discs.
Now Blockbuster is a movie ghost town. After the onslaught of Netflix and Redbox, the end has been near for a while. The company has managed to hold on, just barely, but financial types are now expecting the end to come in 2011.
Blockbuster is near the top of 24/7 Wall St's new list of brands expected to disappear by the end of 2011. The company is currently considering Chapter 11, and it lost another $65 million last quarter. 6,000 stores are still left, but 24/7 believes that the only life left in the company is the kiosk/delivery rental methods. "Its brick-and-mortar business is dead."
It just goes to show you how much of any movie business relies on the casual moviegoer, not the eager-to-watch-everything cinephile. I always, and wrongly, thought that video stores would stay around for the increased options, the older films, and the immediacy the system awarded. You wouldn't have to plan a night in with friends, they could just head to the local store with you and decide between the old and the new.
With streaming, members were offered the immediacy mail could never provide, popping the last piece into Blockbuster's death puzzle. Netflix-free Canada might have to wait for Blockbuster's death knell to prod zip.ca to rival the 'flix in title options and streaming, but chances are that in the U.S., most folks won't really feel the impact of Blockbuster's death. All the company can hope for is a nice influx of buyers when all of their dvds hit the 5-for-$20 bin.
I love my movies/TV and used to go to Blockbuster and spend megabucks on rentals. Then God said let there be light and Netflix was invented. Not sad to see this happen since I haven't been there for a long time. My dad will be upset though. How do you get your movie/TV experience (aside from the theater)?

We always knew to expect great (or, at the very least, provocative) things from the offspring of two of rock’s major provocateurs, and Frances Bean Cobain’s burgeoning art career has not disappointed. The 17-year-old offspring of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love (pseudonym: Fiddle Tim) just put up her first gallery show Scumfuck at L.A.’s La Luz De Jesus Gallery. Cobain’s art is gritty and visceral (kind of like her dad’s), depicting androgynous, obese, or malnourished characters and fringe public figures like punk anti-legend GG Allin and cult leader Jim Jones. Oh, and there’s one piece with the caption “Treat me like your mother or I’ll eat the sun.” From what we’ve seen, young Frances Bean’s artwork promises to be as controversial as her parents’ musical legacy. After the jump, check out some images from the show and let us know what you think of the alterna-rock scion’s creations.

EXCLUSIVE: Their first picture together, Eat Pray Love, based on the Elizabeth Gilbert bestseller, isn't in theaters this summer until August 13th so Sony Pictures doesn't know how it will fare yet. Nevertheless, the studio just made one of the year's biggest pitch deals, paying Glee executive producer Ryan Murphy $2.5 million to write an untitled star vehicle for Julia Roberts, and another $2.5 million to direct it. CAA made Murphy's $5M deal.
In the romantic comedy, Julia will play a working woman married to a stay-at-home husband. She loses her job, their roles are reversed, and she has to adjust to motherhood. Plan B's Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner will produce with Murphy. Pitt and Gardner also produced Eat Pray Love in which Murphy directed Roberts. That pic was put in turnaround by Paramount with Julia Roberts attached, then picked up by Sony Pictures chief Amy Pascal who paid Julia $10M to play a woman who walks away from her marriage to travel the world and find herself.
I hear Pascal made this new deal because Murphy and Roberts worked so well together, and because Pascal likes what she has in Eat Pray Love even though it's a one-quadrant movie (older females). Murphy returns to Glee but will start writing soon in hopes of putting the new picture in production next year when he has an "out" in his TV contract enabling him to direct a film. I've previously reported that Murphy is also on the short list of filmmakers who've met for the movie adaptation of the hit stage musical Wicked. Busy guy.

John Barrowman has revealed he's asked Glee producers if he can play one of Rachel's gay dads.
The Torchwood actor hasn't had any further news about the part, however.
But he told Heat: "I have no idea if I'll be in it, I met with their casting people and I said I'd love to be in it - I'd be good as one of Rachel's gay dads!"

John is hosting BBC1's Tonight's The Night and recently joined the Desperate Housewives cast as Angie Bolen's evil ex-boyfriend Patrick Logan.

A United States appeals court tossed out the indecency policy of the Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday, calling it a violation of the First Amendment.
An appeals panel said the F.C.C. policy was “unconstitutionally vague, creating a chilling effect that goes far beyond the fleeting expletives at issue here.”
The ruling was immediately characterized as a victory for big broadcasters like ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC, which have been fighting the indecency policy for years.
Tuesday’s ruling vacates a 2004 decision by the Bush administration F.C.C. to step up enforcement of the indecency policy on the broadcast airwaves. Earlier that year, the singer Janet Jackson’s breast was bared during the Super Bowl halftime show on CBS, reigniting a decades-old debate about broadcast standards.
But Tuesday’s ruling deals more specifically with the F.C.C. policy toward so-called fleeting expletives. After several curse words were uttered during awards shows in 2002 and 2003, the F.C.C. concluded that a single use of an expletive “could be actionably indecent,” triggering fines against broadcasters.

Not to be confused with the recent Joan Jett/Cherie Currie biopic starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, Marvel’s The Runaways is about a group of kids who discover not only that their parents are part of a murderous cult, but that they themselves have superpowers to help them fight back against their evil guardians. The story is deep and comes from Bryan K. Vaughan, who also gave us the acclaimed Y: The Last Man series, as well as doing a stint as a writer on Lost. This should be enough to get you excited for the project.
Production Weekly’s Twitter let us know today that The Runaways will be lensing from January until June of next year, giving it an early to mid-2012 release, maybe summer if they hold out for the season. This is another of Marvel’s properties that they’ll be putting in front of the camera while we hold out patiently for them to wrap up the Avengers saga.
The kids involved in The Runaways are teenagers so it could be interesting to see Marvel more openly appeal to that demographic and compete with the upcoming Twilight: Breaking Dawn faithful. Production is still a ways off, but attached director Peter Sollett will surely be raring to go before the start of the year. You can be sure that we'll have more on this as the extensive casting gets underway, but with SDCC starting up next week, that could be very soon.
Here’s the official synopsis from Marvel’s Wiki, but it may contain some spoilers so read at your own risk:( Collapse )

In an interview with In Touch Weekly, Dina said that after the July 6 sentencing, she and Lindsay “hugged and cried a lot,” but they are “optimists.” “Lindsay is sober and she’s fine. I don’t want to speak hypothetically (about jail) because she’s not going to be in that situation,” Dina said.
If Lindsay does end up in jail, her mother says that Lindsay’s biggest concerns about doing time would be coping with her claustrophobia and dealing with not smoking. (“She will probably have to get hypnotized,” Dina said of the smoking situation.)
But her fears for Lindsay are much larger. “If Lindsay went to jail, I would fear for her life. Jail doesn’t help anyone no matter what problem you have — unless you’re a rapist or a murderer. This wasn’t a violent crime, but they’re saying you miss a DUI class and have to go to jail for three months — that’s absurd,” Dina told In Touch.
“Lindsay actually wants to open up her own rehab center here (in Los Angeles) and a couple across the country to help other kids and celebs so they don’t fall through the cracks in this town,” [LOL] Dina said. “She mentioned it to me a couple of days ago. She’s really growing up.”
Denver was ready for Rihanna, but was Rihanna ready for Denver?
Apparently not. With little fanfare, Rihanna has canceled the Denver date of her "Last Girl on Earth" tour on Thursday. The R&B diva was to play Comfort Dental Amphitheatre in Greenwood Village on Thursday, but there is no longer any sign of that show on the singer's website or livenation.com, where tickets were being sold. Pop star Ke$ha was to open the show.
A Live Nation rep did confirm that Rihanna's Denver date has been cancelled — not postponed, so it's not being rescheduled. Refunds are available at point of purchase for ticketholders.
The Live Nation website does include a short note: "Due to a change in Rihanna's schedule, she can no longer appear in Denver at the Comfort Dental Amphitheater July 15th, 2010. Fans who purchased tickets will receive a refund. Rihanna apologizes to her Denver fans and hopes to make it up to them on the next tour."
The drama the ladies of the "The Hills" have grappled with for six seasons has captivated millions of fans, including one hip-hop diva in particular: Nicki Minaj. Minaj recently revealed via Twitter that not only does she watch the show — which signs off on Tuesday (July 13) — but she has strong opinions about the goings-on of the cast.
Apparently, the MC has been keeping up with the antics of Audrina's (and Kristin's) on-and-off boy toy, Justin "Bobby" Brescia. When a fan pressed Minaj on Twitter about whether she watches "The Hills," the star tweeted, "Yes! I was SO mad wen Justin bobby cut his hair!"
Her taste in TV isn't the only thing the star has revealed on the social-networking website. Last week, the Young Money MC announced the release date of her hotly anticipated debut album on Twitter. "Yes. It's time. November 23rd," the star tweeted Thursday.
When MTV News caught up with the "Your Love" rapper on the set of the video for her #1 track, Minaj called the material she was working on with producer Swizz Beatz "magical" and was generally amped about the album.
"When people hear the album, they're going to get to know Onika [her birth name is Onika Maraj]. And no one knows Onika," Minaj said. "I really didn't think I would be this excited about the songs that I'm coming up with. I'm really, really proud."
Swizzy was also excited about his work with Minaj. "We have a lot of small conversations that end up [turning] into big musical moments," the producer told MTV News. "When you hear Nicki on my track, you're gonna see that 'Wow, she just went from here to there.' I'm happy to be a part of that."
"You periodically felt like you were a part of something truly insane, but it was all in a day's work," Leonardo DiCaprio told me during a junket for the movie "Inception." Even if that day's work includes shooting on a mountain in the middle of a blizzard.Based on an original script by director Christopher Nolan, "Inception" is a film that defies easy sound-bite descriptions. Its Russian nesting doll-like structure of a dream enclosed within a dream enclosed within another dream virtually demands multiple viewings. Think Philip K. Dick meets "The Italian Job."
Nolan's previous silver screen venture was a little movie called "The Dark Knight" -- the highest grossing non-James Cameron movie in American history. So for this go-around, the director's vast, ambitious vision seems to have been utterly unfettered by financial constraints. And it shows.
"Inception" was shot in Tokyo, Los Angeles, Morocco, London, Paris and the Canadian Rockies. It features shots of the French capital folding in on itself M.C. Escher-style, a zero-G fist fight, and a freight train blasting through the streets of downtown Los Angeles.
And in one sequence, Leo and the gang stage a raid on a snow-bound Alpine fortress -- the aforementioned shoot in the blizzard.

Katy Perry is relishing her role in The Smurfs movie, because she was banned from watching the TV show as a child. The pop star is making her foray into acting by voicing the character of Smurfette in an upcoming adaptation of the popular cartoon series.
However, Perry admits she was never able to watch the program when she was younger, because her strict pastor parents deemed the Smurfette character too saucy for kids.
She explains, "It's funny because I was never allowed to watch The Smurfs growing up. In anticipation of tonight’s episode of Deadliest Catch — in which friends and family say goodbye to Phil Harris — the captain’s son Josh Harris spoke to EW today about missing his dad, the outpouring from fans, and how he and his brother, Jake, hope to buy the Cornelia Marie.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You said on The Tonight Show that you are trying to raise millions of dollars so you and your brother can buy the other half of the Cornelia Marie. Have you set up some sort of fund in Phil’s name? Fans may want to help out.
JOSH HARRIS: Not yet. I really don’t know how to go about this stuff, and I really don’t want to depend on our fans to help us. I’m hard-headed. I’m trying to figure all of this out. I want to be able to do it on my own. My old man got the boat on his own. I’m just going to check out a couple of avenues and if that doesn’t work, we’ll go a different route. The last thing I want to do is beg for help from complete, utter strangers.
Talk about the outpouring of support from fans.
It’s been quite different. A lot of people will come up to me who have never seen the show, or they just started watching, and they are in a state of shock. They don’t even know the name of the boat. They just know the name of the captain who passed away. Everybody wants to give you hugs, give their condolences, tell you their stories. They try to comfort you in every which way. I’m very thankful for all the people who genuinely care. They don’t know anything about me or my brother or our situation but they really care. It’s really bizarre to me.
