Band follows Jazz Fest set with spooky show at tiny Preservation Hall
A long white bus is struggling around a tight corner in New Orleans' French Quarter, and inside, the five members of My Morning Jacket are listening to a dead man sing a ghostly tune. It's just before midnight on a warm Saturday in late April, and a few hours earlier, the band was playing larger-than-life versions of anthems from "I'm Amazed" to "Mahgeetah" for an overflowing crowd of thousands at Jazz Fest. Now, MMJ are on their way to the day's second engagement, an unrehearsed acoustic benefit gig in teensy, decaying, 200-year-old Preservation Hall, home to the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, the opening group on the Jacket's current tour. "This will be a dream show," says drummer Patrick Hallahan "We can play anything we want."

The stakes are high for five young cops fresh out of the Academy and ready for their first day with one of the most elite units in the city. Under the watchful guidance of their officers, Andy McNally and her four fellow rookies quickly learn that no amount of training could prepare them for this new world where every day is a first. Each case they tackle and choice they make will impact their lives, but it’s their personal relationships that may play an even greater role in defining the cops they become.

Since debuting in 2007, retro-futuristic R&B singer Janelle Monáe has received fawning coverage from just about every pop-conscious media outlet imaginable. Traditional music mags Rolling Stone and Spin raved over her genre-defying sounds; Vogue spotlighted her hyper-stylized fashion sense, not once, not twice, but three times; and NPR applauded her theatrically informed debut EP on "Fresh Air." Even a lesbian-focused website called Autostraddle championed this Atlanta (by way of Kansas) pompadoured sprite, calling her "androgynous" and adding: "We want Monáe to be a lesbian, mostly 'cause we're attracted to her." Forget Barack Obama; if there's one person the liberal media elite can agree on, it's Janelle Monáe.
Too bad none of that means jack. As the cancellation of critically beloved TV show "Arrested Development" shows us, having the media on your side doesn't necessarily translate to radio spins. In Monáe's case, all the accolades in the world – and even a 2009 Grammy nomination for Best Urban/Alternative Performance – couldn't spur sales. To date, she has moved about as many copies in her career as Justin Bieber sells while he's feathering his bangs. Her debut EP Metropolis: The Chase Suite got a widespread release in 2008, entering the Billboard 200 at No. 115. It sold some 5,000 copies before unceremoniously dropping off the charts.

It's reportedly over between Matt Lauer and his wife of 12 years, Annette Lauer, and RadarOnline.com can bring you all the details behind the split.
According to the Enquirer, Annette accused Lauer of cheating during the Today Show's on-site coverage of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Colombia, which occurred between February 9th - 26th.
Suspicions were first sparked when Matt stood Annette up for Valentine's Day, choosing instead to stay in Vancouver, where a source says Matt was often spotted boozing and flirting with women - in particular two pretty Canadian broadcasters.
Annette, reportedly was informed of her husband's flirting by the wife of another staffer, got the names of the two female broadcasters he was spotted getting especially cozy with, and confronted Lauer upon his return home.
Lauer denied all accusations, insisting the women were just friends, but after two non-stop days of fighting finally moved out into his own digs.
This isn't the first time Lauer has allegedly cheated, two years after their 1998 wedding, Annette reportedly discovered Matt had carried on a secret affair with a married woman just months before their wedding!
According to the show insider, "Matt is trying to keep this [split] on the down low." In addition, sources say that Lauer's NBC bosses are pressuring the presenter to maintain his image as a solid family man to appeal to his largely female audience.
The source goes on to say, "Matt is still very involved in his children's lives. He goes to the family apartment after he finishes his Today duties to see the kids - and picks them up from school.
"For their sake, he and Annette plan to continue getting together on weekends - and they'll go to their house in the Hamptons."
One of the most popular — and reviled — icons of 1990s children's television is back in the hands of the man who launched it.
Media mogul Haim Saban has bought back the rights to "Power Rangers," the hit television show that fueled his dominance of children's television in the 1990s, from Walt Disney Co., which took control of the property in 2001.
Saban has also signed a deal with Nickelodeon, Disney's primary rival in the children's TV business, to air 20 new episodes of "Power Rangers" that he will produce, along with a catalog of more than 700 episodes.
The deal is worth about $100 million, according to a person familiar with the situation. Saban declined to comment on the price.
Originally known as "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," the low-budget series debuted in 1993 and consisted primarily of recycled footage from Japan of monsters battling teenage superheroes with many voices dubbed by American actors.

It's commencement season again. And as always, sprinkled among the distinguished political figures, noted scholars and community leaders who have been called upon to deliver inspiring graduation speeches, we can easily find a fair share of celebrities.
Today, for example, Alec Baldwin delivered the keynote speech during New York University's commencement at Yankee Stadium, where he reportedly stressed the importance of commitment to a crowd of freezing cold, soon-to-be grads. The verdict, at least according to this blog post? His remarks were "cute."

Sorry, I forgot the tags.
Jane Lynch has signed up for a move that her “Glee" alter-ego, Sue Sylvester, might not have made: she’s serving as a pitch woman for PETA.
She’s the latest celebrity to team up with the organization to encourage spaying and neutering in order to curtail animal overpopulation. Other celebs who have worked with the organization include Carrie Ann Inaba, Simon Cowell, Patricia Arquette and Mickey Rourke.
In Lynch’s spot, she’s targeting people who carelessly breed dogs and cats in a quirky campaign for the animal rights group.
“The good folks at PETA asked me to say a few words about the importance of good posture and personal hygiene —but I don’t want to talk about that,” says Lynch in the TV spot. “I want to talk about the 4 million dogs and cats who are euthanized every year because there aren’t enough homes for all of them.”
The 49-year-old actress told PETA in an interview that dogs and cats have had made a positive impact on her life. “Having dogs and cats who I love so thoroughly has made me a better partner, has made me a better friend. And the love is so unconditional from the animals. I’ve just become a much better person because of my love for animals,” she said.
She also wrote a letter on PETA’s behalf to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, urging him to support a law that would require dogs and cats in her native Chicago to be spayed or neutered.
The interview with Lynch is over here.

Cops have just arrived to Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag's L.A. area home after the couple called police claiming Heidi's mother is refusing to leave their property, law enforcement sources tell TMZ.
We just spoke with Heidi, who tells us, "My mom [Darlene Egelhoff] just showed up to the house unannounced ... and after what she did to me on national TV, I have no desire to see her."
Heidi's referring to a recent episode of "The Hills" in which Darlene told Heidi she did not approve of her plastic surgery. On this week's episode, Spencer claimed Darlene "tried to rape [Heidi] emotionally."
Heidi tells us she immediately notified her personal security team when her mom showed up "pounding on the door."
Heidi claims Darlene is currently speaking with police.
Montag continues, "Her showing up is completely out of line and psychotic. I’m getting a restraining order against her."
So far, no arrests have been made.
UPDATE: Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Heidi's mom has finally left the property.

CANNES, France – Shia LaBeouf says the second "Transformers" movie got too big for its own good — but the third one brings the heart back to the franchise.
LaBeouf, who starts work on the next "Transformers" sequel Tuesday, said the third installment will be the best one yet. The new script restores a human element that got lost in the second movie, LaBeouf said.
"When I saw the second movie, I wasn't impressed with what we did," LaBeouf said in an interview Thursday at the Cannes Film Festival, where his finance drama "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" is premiering. "There were some really wild stunts in it, but the heart was gone."
"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" was a runaway commercial success but was drubbed by critics.
We have moved one giant step closer to seeing Lindsay Lohan playing infamous porn actress Linda Lovelace.
News out of the Cannes Film Festival this morning is that international sales for the film “Inferno,” with Lohan attached, will be handled by London-based sales house WestEnd Films, according to Total Film.
Adapted from the memoir of infamous sword-swallower Linda Lovelace, Inferno follows her destructive relationship with pornographer Chuck Traynor, and her subsequent involvement in the feminist anti-pornography movement.
Inferno is due to shoot in the fall with Matthew Wilder directing.
Lohan described Inferno as "a tragic love story...the truthfulness of it is in the ways the characters connect, even in very unhealthy ways, and can't get away from each other, find themselves interlocked. That element of Linda's story feels to me very much like real life."

A sci-fi series which sees humans attempt to populate another planet is being filmed for the BBC. Among the Outcasts stars are Ugly Betty's Eric Mabius and Spooks actress Hermione Norris.
Currently filming in South Africa, the eight-part series will be set on the fictional Carpathia in 2040. The series opens with a group of pioneers waiting to welcome other settlers to the planet, who will hopefully bring news of Earth.
Outcasts, which is due to screen on BBC One later in the year, has been created by Spooks writer Ben Richards.
Other actors joining the cast include Jamie Bamber, who appeared in cult US series Battlestar Galactica, and rapper-turned actor Ashley Walters, who recently starred in the BBC adaptation of Small Island.
Ben Stephenson, controller of BBC drama commissioning, said: "Outcasts is a richly intelligent, character led drama full of big ideas about what it is to be human told through thrilling and surprising stories that could only appear in this show."
We’ve been openly speculating about it for far too long: How will the minds behind “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” shoot the story’s epilogue, which picks up almost two decades in the future? Would director David Yates and his team hire older actors to stand in for Daniel Radcliffe and the rest of the cast or would he employ special effects to age the familiar “Potter” faces?
Now we know for sure. Speaking with MTV News, co-star Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) revealed that he and the rest of the cast will play older versions of their characters. What’s more — achieving those looks will require a mix of prosthetics and CGI technology.
“For nearly two months, we’ve all been doing prosthetic tests and all sorts of preparation for the epilogue,” Felton said. “I’ve been having some aging training. You’ve got to walk differently. There’s a slump in your walk.”
Those tests must have been successful because a schedule to shoot the scene has already been set. “It’s going to be the last big thing that we do. It’s going to be on location,” he explained, going on to say that it should take three days of filming to complete.
Until then, he’s been busy practicing how to play a character on the verge of turning 40. So how exactly does one train to be old?
“It’s bizarre,” Felton laughed. “We have a lovely guy who comes in. It was a little weird the first time — imagine you’ve got weights on your arms! There have been a number of times where I nearly laughed and I had to hold it in.”
Felton should finally wrap up his decade-long commitment to the franchise in June, about six months before the November release date of the first part of “Deathly Hallows.” And while a bit of sadness has crept into the proceedings at the thought of leaving the series behind, he’s eagerly anticipating the chance to film the epilogue at long last and thankful that he — and not an older actor — will be in front of the camera when it all goes down.
“We’re probably at the most exciting bit,” he said. “Certainly the part I’ve been most looking forward to. It’s going to be very exciting.”
So do you think 36 is as old as he makes it out to be, or are you firmly in the land of Epilogue, what epilogue?

Lost: Dead Minorities!
Sometimes so-called "brave" television shows aren't quite as brave as we think. Case in point: two ABC series, "Lost" and "Modern Family," which don't always treat minorities and gays with the utmost respect.
What's that you say? "Lost" is routinely lauded for a remarkably diverse cast that flies in the face of TV convention. "Modern Family," meanwhile, earns accolades for its "honest" portrayal of a gay couple who are the adoptive parents of a Vietnamese baby. And both shows air on a network that is generally regarded as the most progressive among broadcast entities.
But a closer look reveals some glaring inconsistencies.

Rihanna spent a staggering £15,000 on alcohol in just three hours.
The ‘Umbrella’ singer headed to London nightclub Mahiki after playing a sold-out show at The 02 Arena on Monday night and treated her huge entourage to champagne, vodka and Jagermeister – a German herb liqueur.
One fellow reveller said: “She turned up with a massive entourage of about 70 people. She ordered thousands of pounds worth of alcohol, including Krug champagne, huge bottles of Grey Goose vodka and trays of Jager-bombs.”
The 22-year-old pop star had her own private dancefloor and partied until the early hours, at one point dancing to one of her own songs.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: “She had a section of the dancefloor cornered off just for her and when the DJ played her song ‘Rude Boy’, she started gyrating with a bunch of men.”
The Barbados-born beauty stayed at the club with her entourage until around 4.30am before heading back to her hotel.
A source said: “When she left she was clutching a half-drunk bottle of Mount Gay rum. She took it into her car, saying it was a souvenir as it’s made in her home country, Barbados.”
'Other Asian' Takes Center Stage on Glee Tour
It's been a big year for Harry Shum Jr. (Mike). The Glee background dancer has gone from completely anonymous (other than being the guy Sue Sylvester called "Other Asian") to having a dance-off with Matthew Morrison on Oprah. And coming later later this month, his dance group LXD will be the opening act for the Glee Live summer concert series.
"It’s really exciting and kind of like worlds colliding. But to have everyone see this tour will be amazing," Harry told the New York Post. Not only is Harry excited about the tour, he's also pumped about the expanding presence he's seen on Glee. Just don't expect any Brittany/Santana-like breakthroughs for him just yet. "Right now, I think it’s one of those games where you keep doing what you’re doing and whatever happens is great. I don’t like forcing things. I think things happen naturally and there have been talks of getting more Mike [Chang, his character's actual name], and him having more interaction with the others outside of singing and dancing. As of right now, the focus is the tour then we’ll have a couple weeks off and start working on season two." Maybe Mike can have a fling with Brittany?
As for the summer tour, Shum says LXD and Glee are a perfect match, but don't expect to see much crossover between the two acts. So if you've got tickets and like watching some killer dancing, don't miss their 20-minute opening act!
Lady Gaga’s been up to her usual batty shenanigans while on tour in Germany.
The delirious publicity hound threw a flamboyant after-party in one of Berlin’s most notorious gay clubs.
The venue usually holds men only themed fetish nights.
But after performing at the O2 World Arena Lady Gaga, 24, took her posse there for a kinky night out.
She looked right at home wearing nothing but a skimpy black bra, black pants covered in chains and ripped fishnet tights.
The Lady and her gang went to underground club Berghain which has a hardcore gay sex club in the basement called The Laboratory.
A well-placed mole told us: “There’s no VIP treatment and no guestlist so she was hanging out with all the semi-naked clubbers and drag queens.
“She was happy to pose for pictures with everyone, including two guys who had covered their faces in chocolate body paint.
“The club is like a sex dungeon in a basement and has a cult following, so what goes on inside tends to remain a closely-guarded secret.
“The crowd is wild, open-minded, and wants to party full throttle.
“Inside there’s a huge maze with different darkrooms and wet play areas, where all kinds of kinky games take place.”
Sounds like the Poker Face performer fitted in well.
Is a new Housewife joining the mix?
On Tuesday night, Britney Spears's mother Lynne had a girls' night out at the lower Manhattan restaurant Kenmare with her niece, a family friend and Real Housewives of New York City's Jill Zarin.
How did this seemingly unlikely pair come to be pals?
"I met Lynne a few years ago backstage with [my daughter] Ali at Britney's concert at the Meadowlands [Sports Complex in New Jersey], we just connected and we kept in touch," Zarin tells PEOPLE. "When Lynne comes to town we try to meet and catch up. She called me a couple of months ago and said she was coming to New York."
Zarin admits they may be an unexpected pair, but says they've bonded over motherhood.
"It is [surprising]," she says, "I mean I'm a Jewish girl from Long Island, and she's from Louisiana, so you couldn't get more apples and oranges. (Both have also authored books about motherhood.) "But we're both moms who love our kids and who would do anything to protect them. And Ali and Jamie Lynn are around the same age."
"We talked about Mother's Day, what we got, about New Orleans, about traveling," Zarin says of their dinner. "Her kids are doing fantastic. Her grandkids are her life. She looks amazing. She's in amazing shape; she works out. She was really happy."

This shit looks stupid. What's the purpose of it anyway?
The Hills drama continues.
A tipsy Kristin Cavallari, 23, got into an early morning screaming match with a gorgeous brunette who was flirting with her ex Brody Jenner, 26, at the Nylon Young Hollywood party at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood Wednesday night.
Cavallari had been fuming since 10:20 p.m., when she spotted Jenner hitting on Hills co-star Audrina Patridge, 25, who didn't seem interested as she's dating Ryan Cabrera, 27.
Jenner stopped speaking to Patridge to try to calm down Cavallari, who was on her second beer, but she grabbed his arm angrily before they parted.
At midnight, Cavallari stood up quickly with her dress hiked to her waist -- flashing a pair of white mesh panties! She didn't seem too concerned, and pulled her dress back down. (Joked Cavallari's trainer John Damon to some pals, "See that sick body? That's because of me. I torment her on the treadmill!")
A few minutes later, a gorgeous brunette began chatting up Jenner, making Cavallari -- who gave the girl an icy hello -- increasingly annoyed. Cavallari, who had been drinking all night, threw a cell phone she'd received for free from a swag suite down on the floor in anger.
After about 30 minutes of Jenner's flirtation with the brunette, Cavallari approached her and began screaming as a Hills producer whispered into his microphone, "This is going to get ugly." The brunette's blonde friend also began yelling back at Cavallari.
Jenner intervened after about five minutes of fighting, pulling Cavallari away and giving her a hug. Cavallari smiled and flashed Jenner a hotel room key and the two of them -- with their arms all over each other -- took off together.
Jenner and Cavallari haven't dated since 2006, but have always had sexual tension. In an October episode of The Hills, Jenner's then-girlfriend Jayde Nicole demanded he choose one of them, and he admitted he "didn't know" if he had feelings for Cavallari.

These days, singer Christina Aguilera is a happy wife (to Jordan Bratman) and mom (to 2-year-old son Max).
One person not in her life? Her estranged father Fausto Aguilera. Their relationship, Aguilera tells Latina magazine, is "pretty nonexistent. I'm in a place in my life where I just don't see a reason for it."
The pop star has said that Fausto, a former U.S. Army Sergeant, was emotionally and physically abusive; he and her mom, Shelly Kearns, split when Christina was just seven, and she rarely saw him after that.
"To remember the chaos that [my mother] went through, the abuse, I don't know how she did it," Aguilera, 29, tells Latina. "But it's amazing how much you can trick your mind into surviving when you have to."
"There's always room for forgiveness," the "Not Myself Tonight" songstress adds. "And I do forgive--but you grow up and make choices for your family."
In 1999 -- when Aguilera first became a teen pop rival to Britney Spears -- she reunited with Fausto after 12 years following an NYC concert. "We spoke for the first time in a long while. Really, he's a stranger to me," she told Rolling Stone at the time. "He's apologized," she added. "I think he had a lot of guilt."
Things are infinitely better with Bratman, whom she married in 2005. "Jordy was the calm in the storm when everybody else was driving me crazy," she tells Latina.
"I had a lot of older people around me who were conniving--and these people do that so you cling to them. He was the person who reached down, pulled me out and made me see reason. I'm very lucky to have him."
The June issue of Latina hits stands May 25.
Jennifer Aniston is joining two studio comedies. She signed on to join the cast of the Seth Gordon-directed New Line comedy Horrible Bosses. At the same time, Universal Pictures has just acquired Wanderlust, a comic vehicle for Aniston to star in with Paul Rudd. David Wain and Ken Marino wrote the script. The comedy will be directed by Wain, who previously directed Role Models, the comedy that Rudd co-wrote and starred in. Judd Apatow will produce through his Apatow Pictures banner, with Wain, Marino and Rudd also producing. Aniston and Rudd will play a married couple trying to escape the trappings of the city life for a counterculture existence. Production will begin this fall. Aniston is coming off the comedy Bounty Hunter, which has quietly surpassed $130 million in worldwide gross. Aniston is next slated to film "The Goree Girls," which is set in the 1940s and tells the story of eight Goree Prison inmates who form a country-western band.
Fashion's wisest voice, Tavi, has finally come forward with her take on the Terry Richardson Sex Perv allegations and she has definitely not been impressed with "Uncle Terry's" antics - nor the people within the fashion industry who have supported his work.
Here's a few of my favourite lines from Tavi's anti-Terry rant and his treatment of models:
- ... Lots of people in fashion, many people I really respect, have jumped to his defense. The most common arguments from these folks and Internet commentators point fingers at the barely legal girl who has been pressured into taking her clothes off for photos that will be published in magazines and online.
Ah, blaming the victim. A personal favorite of mine!
"You can always say no. It’s the girl’s fault for not saying no. There is a choice. The girl could’ve refused." …the girl should never be put in the position in which she has to refuse. I mean, sure, she could just not say yes, but there’s another person to blame, and that would be the person who could just not pressure a girl into performing those kinds of acts. Remember him? And for what reason, other than selfish pleasure? Nevermind the emotional damage it can do to a person. I don’t think its purpose is in the quality of the photos — nudity in fashion is no longer shocking. And as for the kind of things he has asked models to do to him, you don’t need to get some action in order to take a head-on picture of someone against a wall.
- "It's fun! Uncle Terry said it's fun and everyone likes it!" Know who didn't say it's fun and everyone likes it? The people who had the opposite of fun and did not like it at all!
- "But it's ART! He's an ARTISTE!" OH, my bad! Sorry, I'll just step out of your way and let you continue with your Disturbed Genius/Troubled Artist Technique of sexually harassing people, then!
- And, let's clarify: you don't love women just because you have sex with them and like taking pictures of their ladyparts.
Go Tavi you little firecracker!

A staff member of MediaTakeOut.com was reading the new book by Kitty Kelley on Oprah, and they were SHOCKED at what they saw. According to Kitty, Oprah used to SELL her body to men!!!
Here is an excerpt from the book:
Oprah devised another way to make money. 'She invited men over during the day while my mother was working,' said[Oprah's half-sister] Patricia. 'Her boyfriends were all much older than her, about 19 or in their early 20s.
Oprah would give Popsicles to me and our younger brother Jeffrey and say, "You two go out on the porch and play now." Oprah then would go insider with her boyfriend...I didn't find out later what Oprah was doing until I was older and she showed me how she did 'The Horse' - which is what she called the sex act.'
It took Patricia many years to realize that Oprah was selling "The Horse" - trading sexual favors for money
How has she not been sued by O yet?
We've got new details in that "Twilight" salary standoff.
As we first reported Monday, the actors who play the vampire Cullen kids (Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene) have rejected Summit Entertainment's offer to return for a fourth and fifth movie, thus holding up the studio's plan to send teenage girls into fits of euphoria by announcing that "Breaking Dawn" will be split into two installments.

R&B superstar Mary J. Blige will be taking on the role of legendary soul and jazz singer and civil rights activist Nina Simone, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Simone, who was known as the High Priestess of Soul, but also sang in a myriad of other genres, flourished in the 1960s and 1970s with a series of civil rights anthems. Some of her most acclaimed songs included “My Baby Just Cares for Me,” “To Be Young, Gifted and Black,” and her rendition of Porgy and Bess‘ “I Loves You, Porgy.” Cynthia Mort — who previously created HBO’s short-lived Tell Me You Love Me and worked on the shows Roseanne and Will & Grace — is writing the script, which will focus on Simone’s relationship with her assistant Clifton Henderson (David Oyelowo).
But is Mary J. Blige up to the task of playing a colossal music figure who also reportedly suffered from bipolar disorder? Blige has made a few television acting appearances on The Jamie Foxx Show, Strong Medicine, and Ghost Whisperer, and she most recently starred in Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself, but this biopic is truly going to be the project that reveals whether or not Blige has some serious acting chops. (Of course, she should have no trouble handling the singing aspect of the role). What do you make of this casting choice?
The new Kylie Minogue single is to premiere on BBC Radio 1 tomorrow morning, the singer has confirmed.
'All The Lovers', the trailer from Minogue's upcoming eleventh studio album Aphrodite, will receive its first play on The Chris Moyles Show at around 8.20am.
"Listening to @CHRISDJMOYLES," Minogue posted on her Twitter page. "I'll be there tomorrow to premiere 'All The Lovers'>>>whoooOOOP!!!"
'All The Lovers' was written by London-based electropop duo Kish Mauve, who previously worked with Minogue on her 2007 single '2 Hearts', and produced by Stuart Price.
After an advance listen to the track, Digital Spy described it as a "classy, danceable and effortlessly elegant electro-disco-pop tune - in other words, A Proper Kylie Single".
'All The Lovers' will be released in the UK on June 28, followed by Aphrodite on July 5
OH GOD(dess)! Shaking, crying, hyperventilating, jizzing etc.
Can someone from that part of the world post the single when it premieres pretty please?!

NBC (possibly) renews 'Heroes' after all(?)
I'm hearing that NBC might give Heroes a short order of 6 to just finish up the storyline of the series next fall. Or else it's a goner. (My sources are betting on the latter.) In any case, there's zero chance of a 13- or 22-episode pickup.
6:20 PM UPDATE: Now I hear NBC will decide on 3 possible futures for Heroes, perhaps as soon as tomorrow. The most unlikely scenario is a 13-episode order for midseason. (Creator Tim Kring is hoping for this scenario, of course.) A real possibility is that NBC cancels it altogether. But I'm told odds are best that NBC announces "some kind of climactic finale" for Heroes lasting 2- or even 4-episodes (back to back, over one- or two-nights) to air in midseason.
Even though Heroes' ratings are weak, it is a profitable show for NBC. It brings in the highest international sales of any of NBC's primetime series. It's the No. 1 most downloaded show overseas. Plus, it's a huge DVD seller both domestic and internationally. "What it's up against is that NBC's new team is trying to rebrand the network and give it a fresh look with new shows from J.J. Abrams, Jerry Bruckheimer, and David E Kelley," an insider tells me. "Heroes doesn't fit in with that. But Heroes is a big brand by itself." If no decision is made tomorrow, then it's possible NBC may wait to decide the show's future after upfronts.
You're gonna cancel Law & Order, but possibly keep Heroes? FUCKITY BYE NBC! IT WAS NICE KNOWING YOU, BUT YOU'RE GONNA DIE!!!!
Lindsay Lohan is on the brink of financial disaster and the situation is so dire that she may be left homeless!
The 23-year-old actress turned party girl is $23,000 behind in rent on her Hollywood apartment, an insider tells Star in this week's issue. "She'll be evicted if she can't pony up the cash."
Lindsay’s advisers recently ripped into her over her irresponsible spending. “She was told that she’s racked up more than $1 million in bills that creditors are demanding be settled immediately,” the insider tells Star.
Adding to her money woes, Lindsay is being sued by three men for a minimum of $25,000 in damages for allegedly hijacking their SUV while drunk in 2007. Plus, says an insider, “Her managers have also warned her that several people are threatening to file lawsuits against her."
So Lindsay has resorted to selling off designer clothes, purses and jewelry that she received as freebies and the once promising actress has signed on to play drugged-out 1970s porn starlet Linda Lovelace. Claims the insider, "She's in complete financial ruin."
Lindsay Lohan's replacement has been named for the movie role she lost because she wasn't considered "bankable" ... and, ironically, you probably don't recognize her.
We're told LiLo's character in "The Other Side" will now be played by Olivia Thirlby -- who's only appeared in a few movies, including "Juno" and "The Wackness."
Well, better safe than sorry...

On her friendship with Miley Cyrus: “Miley has been in the spotlight longer thatn I have, so I go to her. I can text her that I’m crying and stressed out, and she’ll reply back: ‘All right, here’s what you do.’ She’s the sweetest thing in the world.”
On Selena Gomez: “We’re both busy, and I wish the best for her. True friends don’t let their friends or family be mean to you. If you can’t trust somebody, you can’t be friends with them.”
On one of her summer must haves: “I’m looking forward to going back out [on the road] for my tour, hopefully with some of my friends. I think that would be the best ever!”

Kutcher recently stepped in to defend Miley Cyrus after the young actress received criticism over a recently released "lapdance" video of Miley partying with "The Last Song" producer Adam Shankman.
Sparking Ashton's ire was CNN’s Rick Sanchez, who said, “Could I just speak for a moment as a father and as someone who has an eight-year-old?…That’s troublesome. And just the physicality of it alone and the fact that she’s 16-years-old. And this isn’t posing for a Hollywood magazine or a picture, because we understand that when you get into that arena, you got to play along with that game kind of thing. I am troubled viewing that."
Responding via his Twitter account, Kutcher tweeted to Sanchez, “ur [sic] comments on Miley R completely unwarranted. She’s 17. What is this the movie Footloose? judgment is unbecoming.”
The former "That 70's Show" star added, “I think it’s important to think about the context of the event she was at. It’s not like she was at a club w/ some stranger.”
Justin Bieber is in the midst of shooting a music video for "Somebody to Love," the latest single off his album My World 2.0. And while details about the video shoot are scarce, Bieber did take to his Twitter account on Monday to let his fans know that he's really stepping up his dance game for the new clip.
"Secret music vid and rehearsals for 'SOMEBODY TO LOVE' with some sick dance crews. Fun day ... gonna go chill," he wrote, adding in a previous tweet, "Now rehearsals for the 'SOMEBODY TO LOVE' video. we got a lot of surprises for this one ... it is a lot of work. gonna be crazy."
He also teased his fans letting them know they were going to love the video, which is being helmed by director Dave Meyers (Britney Spears, Jay-Z, Avril Lavigne, Pink). "Shot a music vid today for a new song ... details coming in the next couple weeks," he wrote. "I think you guys are gonna like it."
The tune — not to be confused with Leighton Meester, Queen or Jefferson Airplane songs of the same name — is a dance track in which he professes his love for a girl and tells her he'd do anything for her. "It's basically about somebody to love," he laughed. "It's cool. It's young. It's nice. I think it's like a universal record."
And with several adorable girls already starring in his videos, when Megan Fox was suggested, he said, "That would be great. That would be awesome, but I don't know if that would be possible. ... I don't know yet."

WHO'S BAD !!??
In an interview with The Film Stage, director Nicole Holofcener (director of Please Give, Friends With Money and Lovely and Amazing) says what we all know:
The Film Stage: Discussing gender politics in the movie industry is often a divisive subject but how has the landscape for women in independent film changed, if at all, over the past decade?
Nicole Holofcener: The movie business is still completely sexist and racist. I’m one of the lucky ones that have slipped through.
She also discusses her working relationship with Catherine Keener:
TFS: Your partnership with actress Catherine Keener, for me, is one of the greatest actor/director combinations of the last 20 years. How has your working relationship with Keener evolved from picture to picture?
NH: Our relationship has evolved because it has deepened. With time came more trust, more knowing. We know each other so well now, and trust one another implicitly, so it’s an easy, creative collaboration. We edit each other. And I barely have to give her any kind of direction, and if I do, it’s very minimal.source.
ONTD,, have you ever experience the glass ceiling in your work/school life? I hate how people assume racism/sexism no longer exist just because there has been a slight amount of progress.

CHICAGO - Come this summer there will be no more tomorrows for "Annie."
After 85 years, Tribune Media Services announced Thursday that it will cease syndication of the comic strip featuring the iconic redheaded orphan on Sunday, June 13. Instead, the company will bring Annie into the Internet age by pursuing new audiences for her in digital media and entertainment, like mobile readers and graphic novels.
"I'm going to miss the girl a lot," Jay Maeder, the strip's writer, said Thursday. "I wrote her for 10 years. She was a fairly large part of my everyday life."
"Little Orphan Annie" made its newspaper debut on August 5, 1924, first written and illustrated by creator Harold Gray. The strip later was renamed simply "Annie," telling tales of the spunky orphan adopted by Daddy Warbucks and joined by her lovable dog, Sandy.

Leapin’ lizards! ABC isn’t commenting, but sources confirm that the network is bringing V back for a 13-episode second season. The troubled reboot has rebounded creatively and ratings-wise in recent weeks.
Amidst a flurry of renewals tonight comes word from multiple sources that ABC has axed the Alyssa Milano-headlined freshman comedy Romantically Challenged. In less surprising news, the Alphabet net has also canceled Better Off Ted, Scrubs, and FlashForward. An ABC spokesperson had no comment.
Goodbye 24, hello comedy for Elisha Cuthbert! The network confirmed today that it has picked up the single-camera comedy Happy Endings for fall that stars Cuthbert as a bride who breaks up with her groom at the altar. It’s one of three laughers that earned orders today by ABC. The others are Mr. Sunshine, a Matthew Perry (Friends) starrer about the owner of a sports arena, and Better Together, a comedy with Joanna Garcia (Privileged) that focuses on two sisters in different stages of their romantic relationships.
More pickups for fall are expected soon. ABC already ordered No Ordinary Family, the high-concept drama starring Michael Chiklis (The Shield) as the patriarch of a family with super powers.

Blue Valentine was one of those breakout Sundance hits I just couldn't get behind. Most people I knew who saw it found it touching, heartbreaking and impeccably acted, whereas I mostly felt like it was over-directed and implausible, covering up two genuinely good performances by Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams
as a married couple facing serious trouble 10 years in. I'm clearly in the minority, though, as the film will be traveling overseas at Cannes this weekend, and is set for a release at some point this year from the Weinstein Company.
In relation to the film's Cannes bow, I'm guessing, a clip from the film has shown up online, dug up by The Playlist. The film flashes between from the couple's current fights and stony silences to the happy, early days of their relationship, and this clip comes from the flashbacks, when they're picking a song to be "their song" and completely, totally enamored with each other. It's a well-acted scene and contains many of the good things about the film, so you'll probably think I'm crazy for doubting it. I'll let you discover that for yourself when the film comes out; in the meantime, check out the clip below.
UNF UNF UNF I cannot wait for this movie.
The final battle is about to begin. In one corner, Sam Winchester (Jared Padelecki), a bunch of demons, Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) and the denizens of hell.
In the other, Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), a legion of angels (led by Misha Collins as Castiel) and those up in heaven. At stake? Nothing more than the future of humankind and earth.
So it’s pretty safe to say that the result of Supernatural’s May finale, the aptly titled “Swan Song,” will steer where the series goes in Season 6. After all, the heaven-versus-hell story arc took up almost every episode this year, and it ends tonight.

Ashton Kutcher said he does not try to make sense of the death last December of his ex-girlfriend, actress Brittany Murphy, of pneumonia at age 32.
"I don't think you can, I don't know if you try to make sense of it or not," Kutcher told "Nightline" co-anchor Cynthia McFadden in an exclusive interview.
"I just celebrate who [Murphy] was," Kutcher said. "She was like the person who walked in the room and she was always the first person to dance. You know when you go to a party and everybody is standing around, and the music is going -- and you know sooner or later everyone is going to dance. She was always the first person to dance. And I just try to connect to that and celebrate who she was and how she was, and not make sense of it, 'cause there is no sense of making sense of it."
Kutcher said that he had not been in close touch with Murphy, his co-star on "Just Married," before her death.
"Not really," Kutcher said. "I mean she came in ... We were casting a TV show that we were producing, and I wanted her to play this role in it, and she came in and I got to see her probably about two months before she passed away."
This is his first public statement about Brittany as I do not count Twitter (it was sweet, but it was still posted. on. twitter. Back away from Twitter slowly, Ashton.)
