All these years later, it's still a bit hard to comprehend how absurdly famous Jennifer Lopez was in 2001, when she became the first woman to ever have a film ("The Wedding Planner") and album (J.Lo) both debut at #1 in the same week.
Now, Lopez has a new movie ("The Back-Up Plan") and album (this summer's Love?) on the way and is still going strong. But she happily looks back on that crazy time and the path she blazed for today's female artists.
"Gosh, I love all the girls out," Lopez said of today's female artists. "[Husband] Marc [Anthony] and I were just talking about this the other day, because obviously we're both into music and we make records and stuff.
"All the way from Taylor Swift to Lady Gaga to Madonna to Britney to Beyoncé and Rihanna and myself — there's just so many people who are on the scene and really doing their thing, and it's nice," she added. "It's nice to see."
Does Lopez see herself as a trailblazer since she was topping the charts long before Gaga and Rihanna came along? "I don't really think of myself that way," Lopez said. "I just always thought of myself as somebody who was out there [trying something unique], and that's what I love about [the music industry]. There's room for all these different kinds of artists."
Although music-buying dollars undoubtedly have fans torn between whether they should drop their bucks on Gaga, Madonna, Taylor Swift or someone else, J.Lo said the ladies are all rooting for one another.
"It's not a competition type of thing," Lopez insisted. "But it is great to be seen as somebody who was at the forefront of that little girl movement.
"[We've seen] such an onslaught of so many different women, girls taking over the music scene, and it's nice," Lopez said of the last decade in music. "There was a time where it was just boy bands and rock-and-roll stars and all that bull. But now is a real girl time."

Here's what went down -- we're told the van pulled up at around 6:45 PM and stayed for about an hour. Two movers moved out a couch, a love seat and tons of boxes.
A man and a woman arrived to the place in a separate car along with the moving van. When they arrived, the movers took something out of the van and put it into the other car. The man and woman packed a few things into their car as well.
Jesse's mom's car was parked out at the house for most of the day, but wasn't there while the movers did their thing.
The White House Project and the First Lady of Mattel — who has dabbled in more than 126 careers over the past 51 years — are teaming up for a new initiative aimed at helping girls. The goal is to get 1 million declaration signatures for the “Ignite a National Movement to Inspire Girls.” The idea behind this is to gain support for a partnership to help get girls into hands-on work experiences through Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day. Once 1 million signatures have been gathered, the declaration will be presented to First Lady Michelle Obama.

100) Justin Bieber
16 Will Get You 20
REASON(S) HE’S ON THE LIST There is nothing sexy about 16 year old boys. Say it with us, frustrated soccer moms of America: unless you’re a Catholic priest, there is nothing sexy about 16 year old boys. Holler at us, Island Records marketing department: if you’re over 18 and fantasizing about Justin Bieber even a little bit, you’re just as bad as those homely New England boarding-school teachers who always seem to end up riding the pimple-popper express. And that shit is illegal. Twenty-something mall skanks: it is not cute to Twitter that you’re “looking forward to tapping that.” Even if that 16-year-old boy looks like Taylor Swift’s little sister, has a pimp named Usher, and a manager named Scooter, that doesn’t make it okay to store shirtless jpegs of the boy in a hidden folder in your PC’s trash bin. No, no, no: you’re fucked up, America.
LOOKS LIKE What did we just say? Don’t look. Just don’t even fucking look.

One week after Reddit user thatcoolguyben posted about his heroin laced one night stand with Peaches Geldof (with pictures verifying his story), Eli Roth, the 21 year-old's horror director boyfriend, addresses the issue with no one other than... Meredith Bluett-Mills. Thatcoolguyben's mother. On MySpace.
Writing on his blog on April 2nd, 2010, Roth, 37, lashed out against Bluett-Mills, calling her son a liar, "deeply troubled," and suggested that his actions are "sociopathic." He insists that thatcoolguyben, 23, took details from past stories of Peaches' drug troubles, but claims she is clean now. Roth noted thatcoolguyben's own troubled history, from holding a girl hostage at knife point in her dorm, to witness tampering, to being kicked out of Drew University.

Thank you, Eli Roth, for your psych 101 analysis of your girlfriend's one night fling and defending her innocence and honor. I'm sure you both can talk about the degradation of women by watching Hostel I&II together. I see that like Stephenie Meyer, you used Microsoft Word's thesaurus to your advantage. It must be very hard for Peaches, leeching off her father's fame and using nepotism to fuel her own. This man is clearly destroying her life. RihannaDaily can confirm that “Te Amo” (produced by Stargate), is indeed Rihanna’s follow up Rated R single to “Rude Boy”. “Te Amo” is Spanish for I Love You. As we all know, it was the only track which leaked on the internet that made it on Rated R. It is one of the most different tracks on the album, beautifully written by James Fauntleroy, topped the Brazilian charts and made the Top 60 in Sweden earlier this year even without an official release.
Based on the feedback and poll results, whether the majority disagrees, we should help support it regardless, Rated R is a masterpiece. It will do incredibly well especially in the Hispanic markets.
Make sure to look out for her performance of “Te Amo” on American Idol next Tuesday! The music video is being shot sooner than you think! Stay tuned for more details.

Christina Aguilera has revealed that her abusive childhood prepared her for her first film role in Burlesque.
The popstar admitted that thinking about her past helped her to convey emotions onscreen.
The 29-year-old told OK!: "The girl I play, Ali, has a rough past - her mother dies when she's very young and she's been in foster homes. I could relate to that pain, growing up in an abusive household.
"That gave me great motivation to provoke my tears for those scenes where I had to really pour it on. I felt it deeply, to go through a lot of those things that brought up a lot of painful memories."
Aguilera, who stars alongside legendary performer Cher in the film, has said that the pair have now become very close.
She added: "Cher's embraced me with open arms, it's meant the world. She's been very much like a mentor to me, but we get together and it's like we're old girlfriends, we'll talk and talk. I really adore her."
Burlesque is scheduled for release in the US on November 24. A UK premiere date has yet to be announced.

Now, the music video of Swing might have been confusing for some of you guys since the storyline is a bit difficult to understand. The clown in the video represents Lee Hyori’s ex-boyfriend. Some years ago I called up a young actor in search of some supporting quotes for an article I was writing on Bernardo Bertolucci. At the time, the actor was still living with her parents in Paris and had just appeared (sometimes clothed, sometimes not) in the director's swooning 60s-set drama The Dreamers. The actor was understandably concerned with how this debut role would be received. She didn't want to wind up like Maria Schneider, who famously ran off the rails after working with Bertolucci on Last Tango in Paris. The actor's mother was scandalised; her agent disapproving. I remember hanging up the phone wondering if we would ever hear of Eva Green again.

"The Last Song," starring teen pop star Miley Cyrus, is based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks, which means that its title might as well be "There Will Be Tears." Just like "The Notebook" and "Message in a Bottle," "The Last Song" hews closely enough to the Sparks pattern of romance and bathos that tears will flow as copiously in the audience as they do on screen. But can "The Last Song" succeed in its other, less obvious objective: to make a viable grown-up movie actress out of Cyrus, the star of Disney's "Hannah Montana" franchise? That's less clear.

Elton John concert to go ahead despite Mayan anger
Sat Apr 3, 1:49 am ET
MERIDA, Mexico (AFP) – Organizers said a concert by Elton John in the ruins of Chichen Itza would go ahead Saturday even after the stage collapsed injuring three workers and complaints from indigenous Mayans it was irreverent and out of place.
Thursday's accident, caused by a collapsing 80-meter (262-foot) metal tower, left one worker with serious leg injuries.
The announcement rankled local Mayan leaders and officials, who pointed out that perhaps the accident was the work of "aluxes," the Mayan culture's equivalent of fairies, who were upset because their gods' permission for the concert was lacking.
"With each concert, in the early morning, a ritual is performed to ask for permission, and this time it was not done," Yucatan state public works secretary Francisco Torres told the Reforma daily.
As with previous concerts by Spanish tenor Placido Domingo in 2008 and British soprano Sarah Brightman in 2009, Mayan leaders, archaeologists and some say even the local gods, resent the sacred ruins being used for profit-seeking entertainment.
Forty researchers from the National Institute of Anthropology and History, which takes care of the Chichen Itza complex, recently published their complaints about Saturday's musical event in local media.
Chichen Itza "is no scenery for an artist to show off, for the enjoyment of an elite or for the political and economic benefit of a small group of people, as well as powerful multinationals," wrote the scientists.
The concert venue near Merida has a 6,000-seat capacity that is 90 percent booked, with ticket prices ranging from 80 to 800 dollars -- putting it clearly out of range of the local Maya population.
Valerio Canche, a Mayan priest who heads the "Mayao'b" religious group, told AFP he regretted "the great discrimination the authorities are inflicting on our brothers of the Maya race."
Meanwhile, local authorities earlier this week announced they had purchased the land on which the Chichen Itza ruins stand from private individuals for 17.6 million dollars.
And without missing a beat, they announced that former Beatle Paul McCartney was next in line to hold a concert at the Mayan ruins.

In an emotional and highly charged phone call initiated by Bethenny, Jill laid down the law on speakerphone (as LuAnn de Lesseps listened in), chiding her former friend for her lack of support while her husband Bobby was hospitalized for thyroid cancer. Bethenny responded that she was busy writing another book but had sent flowers and e-mailed Jill, who ignored her. Jill countered that if she truly cared about their friendship, Bethenny would have called Bobby directly and showed some genuine concern. But Bethenny argued that she didn’t know how serious things were since, according to her, Jill spent the summer throwing parties, attending events and blogging about her life.
In the end, Jill hung up on her costar — and essentially closed the door on reconciliation. Bethenny compared the loss of the friendship to a death, and Jill looked pretty upset too.
Next week, it appears that Ramona will stir the pot by orchestrating a surprise run-in at her apartment to get the former friends to meet face-to-face. And from the looks of the promos, the meeting doesn’t exactly go well. –Brian Orloff

Edward Norton, via his Twitter account, has reported that his film Leaves of Grass (directed by Tim Blake Nelson) is being pushed back. It was supposed to be released these week. Norton says:
"Very good news, the film has been picked up by a new company and will be given a much wider summer release. Details to come but we're all really happy because now it will likely get to many more cities than just NY and Dallas. This happened very much due to great audience response and reviews and press out of SxSW. So huge thanks to everybody in Austin."
In Leaves of Grass, Bill Kincaid, a college classics professor (Norton) is lured home from the Ivy League to the backwoods of Southeastern Oklahoma by his identical twin (also Norton), a hedonistic, pot-smoking career criminal. Kincaid finds that Plato and Marcus Aurelius have ill-prepared him for dealing with a gang of homicidal yokels.

I was a bit skeptical about listening to another cover of Bad Romance, especially after 30 Seconds to Mars raped my ears with their version...but I have to admit that this cover was pretty good. It's better if you don't watch Lissie sing...cause she makes some interesting faces throughout the video.
When Lady GaGa collapsed on stage in Australia last week, we weren't the only ones who were worried she was taking on too much.
Janet Jackson, who became pals with the Poker Face singer last year, has also urged her to "chillax".
Janet says: "I love Lady GaGa, she's a sweetheart. It's not always the case when you meet someone really talented. You enjoy their work but when you meet them. That wasn't the case with GaGa. She really is a sweetheart and a very hard worker.
"I worry about her because she works so hard. I told her I think she needs to slow down just a little and take some time for herself." Hear, hear..
Jonathan Safran Foer’s impressive follow-up to Everything Is Illuminated, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, is making its way to the big screen, and despite the talent that’s being put behind it, my guess is that it won’t be a much better book-to-screen adaptation than Liev Schreiber’s Illuminated was. Extremely Loud follows a precocious boy — an amateur inventor, jewelry designer, astrophysicist, tambourine player, and pacifist — as he searches for a lock that matches a mysterious key left behind by his father, who died in the 9/11 attack. That story is intertwined with the story of his grandparents, whose lives are blighted by the firebombing of Dresden.
Foer’s first two novels are less about story, and more about his brilliant use of language (and he is a hell of a novelist) so this is going to be a difficult book to adapt successfully. I was moved by Extremely Loud, but I don’t remember much about the story, to be honest. But if there’s anyone who can wrangle a good movie out of a novel, it’s Stephen Daldry, who has signed on to direct Extremely Loud. Daldry gave us one of the best coming of age movies of the last decade, in Billy Elliot, before moving on to the Oscar nominated The Hours and The Reader. I hope he takes a more buoyant approach to Extremely Close.
Eric Roth is penning the screenplay. Roth is a decent screenwriter (Munich, The Good Shepard, Ali, but he needs a director who can reign him in, lest you get Forrest Gump or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I wouldn’t bet my life on this movie behind made, either: Scott Rudin, who is producing, has basically secured the rights to every decent piece of literature to come out in the last decade, and a lot of them fall by the wayside after he realizes how difficult they are to adapt to the screen (I believe Rudin tried to bring both A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius and Me Talk Pretty One Day to the big screen without success.
In related news, Safron Foer is something of a sanctimonious ass (must be a mark of the trade), who recently wrote a book on the food industry that encouraged everyone to give up meat. He had a lot of great conclusions, but was so smug about it, that he reminded me of Bill Hick’s screed about non-smokers: “A bunch of obnoxious self-righteous slugs; I’d quit smoking if I didn’t think I’d become one of you.” I think that was the effect of Foer’s Eating Animals on some: Yeah. He had some great points, but I’d rather die seven years early than be like that patronizing sanctimonious fuck.
In other words: He’s not a very premium person.
