Five Movies That Were One Flaw Away From Being Classics

Ever see a movie called Sliding Doors? It was made in the late 90s, and starred Gwyneth Paltrow. The point of the film was to show how much a single choice can affect the outcome of your life. The movie wasn't all that great (for example: Gwyneth Paltrow is in it) but the concept is pretty powerful. It's been explored more successfully in movies like Run Lola Run, and makes up about 75 percent of every Bill Simmons article at ESPN. "What if Portland picked Jordan over Bowie? What if Bill Walton wasn't a gimpy towel boy with saltine crackers for feet? What if David Tyree didn't catch that football on his helmet why did he catch it WHY GOD WHY OH GOD I HAVE CLIPPERS SEASON TICKETS SHOOT MY FACE WITH GUNS!!!!"

Well, we'll be exploiting the Sliding Doors premise for something much more important than sports history or Gwyneth Paltrow's life: Movies that could have been perfect if it wasn't for a single incorrect choice being made. We're going to travel back in time like Dr. Sam Beckett (Long Live the Bakula!) and we're going to fix some of cinema's most notable films, blockbusters, satires, even erotic thrillers, with the careful application of one simple choice.

Rochette skates to Celine Dion in tribute to her mother

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

VANCOUVER - With no medals on the line, and no Olympic pressure on her shoulders, Joannie Rochette skated purely for her mom.

The 24-year-old from Ile-Dupas, Que., performed to Celine Dion's Vole as a tribute to her mother Therese in the Olympic exhibition gala Saturday night, and when the soft strains of the sad song ended, she looked up with a wide smile.

"She loved that program, she loved that song, she loved Celine Dion,"
Rochette said.

The gutsy Rochette touched hearts when she captured a bronze medal less than a week after the death of her mom, marking Canada's first Olympic women's figure skating medal since Elizabeth Manley won silver in 1988.

Stunning in a backless purple velour dress she borrowed from teammate Jessica Dube that better suited the music, Rochette skated an old exhibition program to Dion for the gala, figure skating's traditional finale that brings together the top-five finishers in each event under the spotlights.

A day earlier, Rochette had received a phone call and a huge bouquet of flowers from Dion, part of a huge outpouring of support for the Canadian skater.

"It was so cool to get a call from Celine, I told her I would skate to her song," Rochette said. "It was really nice, she also told me when her father passed away, she went out and sang for all these people because that's what he would have wanted, and I feel exactly the same way. I can't believe I talked to her still."

Dion wrote Vole - Fly in English - in memory of her niece who died of cystic fibrosis in 1993.

Rochette practised the program Saturday morning, but not before watching video of herself on YouTube to recall the steps.

"I didn't remember everything, but I think my mom will forgive me if I forget a few steps," she said.

Rochette, who was presented with the Terry Fox Award earlier Saturday that recognizes courage amidst adversity, said she's been overwhelmed by the emails, cards and phone calls she's received this week, including a message from one of her favourite comedians, Louis-Jose Houde.

Following Tuesday's heartwrenching short program that left barely a dry eye in the Pacific Coliseum, Canadian-born actor Jim Carrey posted on Twitter: "Joannie Rochette! just saw your skate. U made your mother proud! My heart goes out to you and your dad. Much love 2U going forward."

"It's so good to get support from so many people," Rochette said. "I got a really nice message from an eight-year-old girl that still touches me." --source

Canada sets Winter Games medal record

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Canada reached rare heights Saturday, becoming only the third country to win 13 gold medals at the Olympic Winter Games.

A new mark for Winter Olympics will be set Sunday if Canada beats the United States for men's hockey gold.

An Olympics that had a stuttering start for the host nation gained yet more momentum Saturday on what was the first three-gold day in Canada's Winter Games history. The men's long-track team of Denny Morrison, Lucas Makowsky and Mathieu Giroux kicked it off by beating the United States at the Richmond Oval. Minutes later Jasey-Jay Anderson staged a dramatic comeback in the second leg of the Parallel Giant Slalom final to win gold.

And then Kevin Martin's rink beat Norway 6-3 in the men's curling final.

The only previous countries to win 13 gold in a Winter Games were the Soviet Union in 1976 and Norway in 2002.

The 13 gold medals is also a record for a host nation, breaking the previous mark of 10 set by the United States and Norway.

Canada seems certain to end the Games with 26 medals. Lyndon Rush's sled won a bronze Saturday in four-man bobsleigh. That's a record, two more than the 24 won in Turin four years ago.

Heather Mills to open up about Paul McCartney marriage for TV special

Heather Mills' friend gives her a lift for a dip in the sea in Mauritius

Heather Mills is set to reveal all about her marriage to Sir Paul McCartney in an upcoming British TV interview.

The Beatles legend wed the former glamour model in 2002, but the couple separated in 2006, leading to an ugly public divorce battle. The union was officially dissolved in 2008 and the veteran musician was ordered to hand over $38.9 million of his fortune to Mills, as well as annual payments for the former couple's young daughter, Beatrice.

Mills revealed recently that the divorce money has been spent. The Sunday Mirror reports that Heather said: "Most of it's been given to charity, gone into ethical businesses or paid for a couple of properties for my daughter's future security.
"I could never sit with millions of pounds in the bank that could make matters change".

McCartney recently admitted the marriage was one of the biggest mistakes of his life - and now Mills is preparing to expose her feelings about the time they spent together for U.K. show Shrink Rap.

In a preview of the interview, Mills reveals she was flattered when the "Hey Jude" icon pursued her for months after they first met.
She says, "As much as those who didn't know us want to dismiss it, those around us know we were very, very in love. I was pursued for a few months. It was very flattering. How could you say no?"

Rachael Ray Shares Her Exercise Secrets

No wonder Rachael Ray looks so fantastic and fit. The syndicated TV host is several sizes smaller and brimming with energy.

"I started running 3½ miles every morning after
throat surgery to remove a cyst last year," Ray, sipping on a beer, tells PEOPLE at the Amstel Light Burger Bash she hosted Thursday during the South Beach Wine & Food Festival at the Ritz-Carlton. "The gym used to be my adversary. But that has all changed. Now, I look forward to it every morning."

Never one to rise early, Ray, 41, looking
hot in jeans and sexy sandals, is ready to rip at 5:50 a.m., and even earlier if she has a TV appearance before her own New York-based talk show.

She spends about 30 minutes running, then heads for the gym for 45-60 more minutes of elliptical training before choosing from a circuit of machines.

"I look forward to this workout every morning but Sunday," says Ray
, who is using the David Barton gym while in South Beach with her lawyer-musician husband John Cusimano. "I listen to my iPod and discovered I think much clearer now."

Cheryl: "I want nothing from Ashley... except for the dogs"

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Cheryl Cole last night ventured out for the first time since announcing her split from her philandering husband Ashley.

Looking tense and tired, the singer escaped from their £3.5million Surrey mansion to attend a Lady GaGa concert. It was the first time she had left the house in three days since flying back from the U.S. to announce her split from the footballer.

On the return drive home, the 26-year-old appeared to be taking some much-needed rest in the back of her chauffeur-driven car after leaving the O2 arena in London.

It came as sources claimed the X Factor judge is preparing to meet Ashley as soon as next week.
An insider told the Daily Mirror that she had given in to a barrage of texts from the injured left back and had agreed to meet up with him.

The roof couldn't handle Snooki and Vin

Shards of glass rained down on hundreds of revelers -- including "Sex and the City" actor Chris Noth and "Jersey Shore" cast members Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Vinny Guadagnino -- at a Midtown party last night, injuring ten, officials said.

It's not clear why pieces of the ceiling fell in the atrium of the Madison Avenue building, which was evacuated.

"It was a rocking party, this happened right in the middle of everything," one attendee told The Post.

Plushenko speaks about Mao's triple Axles

Plushenko went on Japanese TV and spoke about Mao's performance:

here's what he says:

If I were a judge I would have given more points to Mao because she landed two clean triple axles. For the ladies this is what gets you the most points (lol I think I hear him saying "it's like the Superbowl"). Mao did it for the first time ever on this planet (lol  so dramatic), she did two. The judges did not give her enough extra points for accomplishing that. It's all about the extra points. For a jump with such great difficulty they have to give more extra points.

I think Yu-Na would have still won gold since Mao did mess up, however the difference between the two's score should not be 23 points. that's nonsense.

8 Movie Clips from Robert Pattinson’s REMEMBER ME

With Robert Pattinson's new movie Remember Me getting ready to open on March 12, we’ve been provided with 8 clips from the film. If you’re the type that loves watching as much footage before a movie comes out, you’ll love these clips. Saying that, I always think movies are better knowing as little as possible, so if you can resist the urge, avoid watching them. I just wanted to give you the option.

And while an embargo prevents me from saying too much about Remember Me, I think it’s safe to say I really enjoyed the movie. I walked in knowing nothing about story except who was in it, and the movie really drew me in and surprised me in a lot of ways. The only thing I really want to stress to all of you is avoid every review and spoiler online. If you know too much walking in, the twists and turns won’t mean as much to you. I didn’t know anything in advance and am happy I had that experience.

Remember Me also stars Emilie de Ravin, Pierce Brosnan, and Chris Cooper. Allen Coulter directed the film and William Fetters wrote.

Whitney Houston Departs From Sydney, Australia

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Looking bloated and like she'd just rolled out of bed, Whitney Houston walked through the Sydney, Australia airport Sunday, stunning fans with her appearance. The once glamorous superstar looked like a shower and some black coffee were much in need.

Whitney has been in Australia for a week, on the first leg of a new world tour, and as RadarOnline.com has been reporting, the reception has been less than stellar. Fans have complained that her performances are sub par, with Houston often losing her way through songs.

Whitney Houston Disappoints Australian Fans

The singer's Australian adventure got off to a rocky start when she threw a diva-worthy fit at the Brisbane Airport a week ago, even lashing out at fans who welcomed her to their beautiful country.

Houston has additional concerts in Australia; she was on her way to Melbourne when our photo was taken. She'll then take a month off and pick up the tour in Paris April 6. A grueling schedule, with concerts throughout the UK, Germany, Spain and Italy follows.

Wife of someone famous says celebrity culture is destroying our children.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

My husband Ozzy and I once met Andy Warhol. It was in New York in the Eighties, about a year before the artist died, and at the height of Ozzy's solo success. We had a call from one of Warhol's people saying Andy wanted to meet Ozzy. We were intrigued so we said: 'Let's do it.

First came dinner in a restaurant in Greenwich Village. Ozzy and I sat opposite Warhol, who was exactly like you see him in pictures, only more exaggerated - skinny face, and his collar too big for his neck, so the effect was a bit tortoise-like. Most of the time he didn't say anything, and when he did, it was so quiet you couldn't really hear.

Dinner over, he said he wanted to take us to a Manhattan club. It wasn't long before Ozzy got agitated. 'I'm bored,' he told me.

So am I,' I said. 'But we can't leave yet, it would be rude. Just give it another half an hour and then we can disappear.'

Ozzy went off to the bathroom and didn't return. When I realised he'd done a runner, I did the same.

Of course, Andy Warhol is most famous for saying: 'In the future everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.' These days I'd put that figure closer to five minutes.

Paris Hilton's Never-Ending B-Day Party Keeps Rollin'

If nothing else, Paris Hilton sure knows how to celebrate Paris Hilton.

The erstwhile Simple Lifer capped a weeklong birthday celebration Friday night with a bash at her house.

Among the approximately 100 attendees: boyfriend Doug Reinhardt, sister Nicky and her beau, David Katzenberg, Hayden Panettiere, Brandon Davis and parents Rick and Kathy.

The Studio 54-themed soiree was complete with a photo booth, a performance by Mickey Avalon, go-go dancers on poles and a red velvet Andy Warhol-inspired cake with Paris' face on it.

Paris, whose actual B-day was back on Feb. 17, tented her backyard and set up a dance floor, DJ and a special VIP area (we're not kidding), where the birthday girl spent most of the night with Reinhardt and her closest pals.

Many guests dressed for the party theme, including Panettiere who was barely recognizable in a sparkly gold dress, fake long eyelashes and her new dark hair—but was sans rumored new boyfriend, boxer Wladimir Klitschko.

Guests noshed on trays of Fatburger turkey burgers, mini grilled cheese sandwiches and small containers of buffalo chicken macaroni and cheese.

How pissed would you be if you went to a bday party at someone's house and they wouldn't let you into their special VIP area?

The worst Oscars ever

Oscar's Worst Night Still Resounds in Hollywood

It was like watching a train wreck. Or, more precisely, a Carr crash.

Flamboyant producer Allan Carr, responsible for such excesses as the hit movie musical Grease and the dead-in-its-tracks disco flick Can't Stop the Music, spearheaded 1989's 61st Academy Awards and ended up delivering what is roundly considered the cheesiest Oscar show ever, the one that kicked off with an off-key Rob Lowe singing "Proud Mary" to a ditsy Snow White – and prompted the Walt Disney Company to threaten legal action.

But, as Variety senior editor Robert Hofler points out in his fair-minded new bio of the late impresario, Party Animals: A Hollywood Tale of Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll Starring the Fabulous Allan Carr, which Da Capo Press is publishing Tuesday, so many Carr touches from that night 21 years ago morphed into traditional Oscar-show staples that the Academy might even consider showing Carr some belated love.

Among Carr's flourishes: the fashion procession before the event, extended red-carpet coverage, separation of clips from the Best Picture nominees (rather than showing them in a cluster), and altering the line from "And the winner is …" (so as not to imply there are losers) to "And the Oscar goes to … "

A diva? REALLY?

It was only a matter of time before Lady Gaga started acting the Diva. And her arrival in London at the O2 Arena seemed like the perfect excuse to start releasing her inner Mariah.

To start with Gaga - real name Stefani Germanotta - insisted on puffing fags despite the strict no smoking rules in the venue. My source on the crew told me: "First she started screaming at her costume director when something didn't look right. Then she grabbed a cigarette and proceeded to chain-smoke for the next half hour despite being told it wasn't allowed. She started screaming at them and they looked petrified."

NBC's make or break days begin tomorrow

Get ready for the Peacock to change its plumage again.

On Monday, the broadcast network will launch its latest programming revolution (NBC 3.5? 4.0?), a back-to-basics model that attempts to return to a status quo that executives moved mountains to change last year.

Jay Leno is moving back to 11:35 p.m. hosting "The Tonight Show." Scripted programming is returning to 10 p.m. New shows like "The Marriage Ref" and "Parenthood" represent the first of many new efforts coming down the network's suddenly stuffed development pipeline.

But can the broadcast Humpty Dumpty put all its pieces back together?

The first key is late-night. NBC used to own the space in what seemed to be effortless weekly victories under the older-younger tag-team of Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien. Now with Leno returning to "Tonight" after a slew of disparaging press and a still-green Jimmy Fallon taking over "Late Night," it's not clear if NBC can reclaim the two-hour block.

Given their inherent audience bases, Leno is considered very likely to win over Letterman in the adult demo, but expect a tighter fight among total viewers. Letterman has improved on this front since he last faced Leno, growing slightly this season. Also, the battle between Fallon and CBS' Craig Ferguson should continue to be tighter than Fallon vs. O'Brien last year, though the strength of Leno at 11:35 should make Fallon a more formidable opponent.

One thing is for certain: Leno will be fortunate not to have himself as a 10 p.m. lead-in.

The race in primetime is far less certain.

Thanks to the Winter Olympics, NBC has surged into third place for the broadcast season -- giving the network an outside shot at ending its fourth-place losing streak this year.

The Olympics has historically not provided a significant boost to entertainment programming, yet NBC should at least be able to drive a large number of viewers into the premiere of "The Marriage Ref" after the closing ceremony on Sunday evening. Also, the network has heavily promoted Tuesday's premiere of "Parenthood," which ought to generate some additional sampling of the new drama.

"The race in primetime will not shift to NBC when the Olympics are not in the calculations," Bill Carroll of Katz TV Group predicts. "The differences between networks are more impacted by 'Idol', the Oscars and the Final Four than the 10 p.m. programs on NBC, though they will keep the race for prime audience closer among all the networks."

It's a Britney Spears walking to Starbucks Post
