"'Birdemic: Shock and Terror': Our new, crazy movie obsession"

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Some movie trailers make you go, “Wow!” Some make you go, “Urgh!” And some make you go, “Wait, what’s going on? This is just a lot of generic silent footage of the countryside. And more generic silent footage of a beach. And yet more generic footage of a town. But, wait! Now the whole screen is full of unexplained explosions and screeching, cheaply animated, birds! I don’t understand. I… DON’T… UNDERSTAND!”

Okay, so only one trailer makes you do that. And that is the trailer for Birdemic: Shock and Terror, the film which answers the question of what Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds would have looked like if it had been made not by Hollywood’s legendary Master of Suspense, but by a mid-level Silicon Valley software salesman.

There was a huge disagreement between GaGa and Q magazine over the theme of the shots. They settled on the dildo shots and then there was disagreements with the lighting. GaGa then left to go to her room in the studio.

She emerged crying wearing sunglasses and said how she just got a call from her record label about the marketing of The Fame Monster which she disagreed with (Interview/Photoshoot took place in Late October/Early November).

She told the Q crew she had to leave immediently to have talks about the marketing and that the photoshoot would have to be continued at a later date. However it wasn’t.

First Look at Lady Cillian Murphy In Peacock

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Michael Lander's Peacock promises to be an interesting piece. Cillian Murphy plays John Skillpa, a quiet bank clerk living in the town of Peacock, Nebraska, and after a train crashes in his backyard, he can no longer hide the secret of his multiple personality, Emma, who takes care of him. If that's not weird enough, after he reveals his secret to the town, he has to convince them that his personalities are husband and wife. What?!

The movie is slated as a psychological thriller, and after that description the most intriguing part of the film seems like it would be just how they make that synopsis taught and suspenseful. The tag line is “If he only knew what she was doing,” so one might surmise that “she” starts doing a little murdering along with his laundry.

The first images from the film dropped today over at Shock Till You Drop and at least one will turn a few heads. We're getting not only our first look at the cast, but our first look at Emma, which turns out to be the Scarecrow in full drag. It's not RuPaul drag, he's just dressed as a nice lady you might see about town. It's an interesting look to be sure.

The cast is chock full of greats starting with Cillian Murphy, followed by Susan Sarandon, Ellen Page, Bill Pullman and Josh Lucas. This whole idea sounds like it's going to be incredibly fascinating whether it's a thriller or not. We'll be keeping a close look out for more information as well as a trailer which can't bee too far behind.

Shakira: "I Chose Nadal for Video Because I 'Identify with Him'"

WASHINGTON – Colombian singer Shakira said she thought of Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal for the music video of her single “Gypsy” because she needed someone that she “could in some way identify with.”

After the signing Monday of a project with the World Bank in Washington, the artist spoke of the concerns sparked by her video with the athlete, of which 30 seconds were released by her recording company, Sony, as a preview.

In the images, Shakira appears tenderly embracing Nadal in an attitude that, together with some photos of her dining with the tennis player, was enough for some of the media to start speculating on a possible romance, something that was denied by a spokesperson for the singer.

“I thought that maybe I needed someone I could in some way identify with. And Rafael Nadal is a person who has been totally committed to his career since he was very young, since he was 17, I believe,” she said.

The singer explained the significance of the third single on her 2009 album “Loba” (She-Wolf), a song that represents her “way of living and seeing life.”

“I’ve been on the road since I was very young, so that’s where the gypsy metaphor comes from,” the singer said.

The music video, shot in Barcelona by the Spaniard Jaume de Laiguana and which will premiere on Feb. 26, shows the Colombian artist wearing a black scarf while the informally dressed Nadal wears a white T-shirt.

Lying on the ground exchanging glances, the singer and the tennis star smile intimately as they embrace and suggestively touch hands.

Shakira, who joked about the expectations the video has created in “just 30 seconds,” urged everyone to wait to see all of it and said she was pleased with the result.

“It came out very pretty and we’re really happy,” she said.

Fox has not disclosed what was wrong with the star, referring to it as a "medical procedure" earlier this month.

Troll Foot

Danny DeVito isn't shy about showing his feet to the world. The actor/director has made a hobby of snapping pictures of his "Troll Foot" and tweeting them. Or, for anyone who is not well versed in Twitter: He posts the foot photos online for all to see.

"Troll Foot," or "TF" as it is known, is becoming a catalyst to catalogue DeVito's journeys, and it's clearly an enjoyable endeavor for the funnyman. There are pictures of his "Troll Foot" being licked by a kitten, traveling through Italy, in the Empire State Building's shadow, and -- in one shot -- even draped in a slice of prosciutto.

Does DeVito ever get pedicures? "No, I never get pedicures," he replied, tweeting his latest foot shot taken on Anderson Cooper's desk.

Troll Foot, said DeVito, "was born out of an impulse for me to have a secret identity. That impulse lasted a second. Obvious history."

But TF is making history, one small step at a time, because millions of DeVito fans are also enamored by his foot.

Eli Manning Has A Marketing Deal With A Hospital? Currently Owes Him $500k

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

St. Vincent's hospital in New York has a little bit of a debt problem -- about $700 million worth, according to the New York Post. They also owed New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning(notes) over $500,000 for marketing work he's done for them, but Eli, aware of their debt problems, told them no thanks. He wants them to keep their money. He'll continue doing fund-raising work for the hospital for free, too.

Obviously, it's the right thing for Eli to do. What kind of person -- especially one with Eli's money -- would demand that a bankrupt hospital keep paying him, especially when they're already cutting salaries and jobs? "Shut down your Oncology ward! The quarterback needs his money!" No, that's not quite Eli's style.

Unfortunately, it might be too late for Eli to escape bad publicity for having already accepted a good chunk of change from the hospital. A separate New York Post article quotes WFAN sports radio and e-mails to the newspaper blasting Manning. Before agreeing to release St. Vincent's from their obligation, Manning had already made over $500,000 from them. Here's one of the e-mails:

Katy Perry Has Grown Out of The Kid Shit and Feels Like Taylor Swift...

Life must be hard for Katy Perry. The pastors daughter-turned-pop tart burst onto the scene in 2008 and was heralded as the wild, stylish party girl who shocked conservative Christians with her controversial faux-lesbo anthem ”I Kissed a Girl”, eventually going on to sell over five million copies of her album One of the Boys.

Fast forward two years to 2010 and a whole new crop of girls like Ke$ha and Lady GaGa are out shocking people (my mainstream standards) by peeing in sinks and bleeding on stage, leaving Katy at the risk of becoming a one-album-wonder. Well nobody knows that better than Katy herself, and during a new interview with Nylon she bared her teeth and said that she’s ready to switch things up in order to stay one step ahead of the competition.

Matt Damon To Star In New RFK Biopic

In this tough marketplace, if you want to make another movie about a complex historical figure like Robert F Kennedy, you'd better bring to the table an actor with chops and bankability to excite a financier. Matt Damon does both those things. I've just heard that a deal closed at New Regency for an RFK film that has Damon attached, with Gary Ross directing and Steven Knight scripting. Damon will wait to see the script before we know whether or not the project will really happen. The film will be based on the Evan Thomas biography His Life, which Landscape Entertainment’s Bob Cooper optioned and will produce with Ross and his Larger Than Life partner Alison Thomas.

While Damon just played South African rugby star Francois Pienaar in Invictus, he has never played a real figure like Kennedy. The film will trace RFK's transformation from the younger brother in the shadow brother President John F Kennedy to a strong national leader in his own right before he was gunned down in 1968. His assassination at the Ambassador Hotel was the backdrop for Emilio Estevez’s Bobby, and Chris Columbus and his 1492 partners are developing The Last Campaign on RFK's presidential run. Ross, too, has long been fascinated with Kennedy and once optioned the Thomas book himself.

Knight, the Eastern Promises writer, just got hired by Columbia Pictures to adapt the Dan Brown novel The Lost Symbol. That came thanks to his work for the studio on Pawn Sacrifice, a drama about Bobby Fischer's unlikely victory over Russian chess champ Boris Spassky. Tobey Maguire is producing and eyeing the Fischer role. Cooper, Ross, and Thomas were already collaborating on another U.S. history project, the Jack Greenberg-Thurgood Marshall story Crusaders, which they’ve set at HBO with Danny Strong writing the script.

I think I'd rather see him do more comedy, but eh, maybe. (And they're doing a Lost Symbol movie?! Oh Christ.)

Freida Pinto will star in "War of the Gods," Relativity Media's Greek mythology clash directed by Tarsem Singh with production set to start in April.

Story follows a young warrior Theseus who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil and the powerful elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind. The "Slumdog Millionaire" thesp will portray Phaedra, an oracle priestess who must join Theseus -- played by Henry Cavill ("The Tudors") -- on his quest to prevent the cataclysmic war from erupting.

"War of Gods" will be produced by Gianni Nunnari of Hollywood Gang Prods., Mark Canton of Atmosphere Entertainment and Relativity topper Ryan Kavanaugh. Nunnari and Canton partnered on 2007's "300," producing the sword-and-sandals saga for Warner Bros.

Universal will handle the release. Relativity's Tucker Tooley and Craig Flores of Hollywood Gang are exec producing.

Jason Keller penned the most recent draft of the script. The original screenplay was written by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides.

Relativity began developing "War of the Gods" when it bought the Parlapanides' script two years ago -- about the same time as Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures started moving ahead on "Clash of the Titans." Warners has converted "Titans" to 3D and slated it to open April 2 with Louis Leterrier directing and Sam Worthington starring.

Pinto's upcoming films include Woody Allen's "You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger," opposite Josh Brolin and Naomi Watts, and "Miral," directed by Julian Schnabel in which she plays the title part. Both have completed production.

She's repped by CAA.

New Amy Acker Interview

You’ve played geniuses, goddesses, a doll and even a man, what presented the greatest acting challenge? Do any of them stick out as the most fun?
[laughs] I’m too embarrassed to watch the episode where I played a man.

That’s the great thing about working with Joss [Whedon] and on ‘Alias’. I’m just so lucky, I get to do so many things, you never know what you’re going to play. The man was out of my comfort zone, and Whiskey being so sexy, that is not me at all, that was probably the one that I was most scared of.

Do you have a favourite role, series or episode you’ve worked on?
Maybe Fred. Maybe because it was my first real job and getting to do the show for so long. And just the way she started out and changed and became Illyria at the end, I would say Fred.

The last time we saw Angela Chase and Jordan Catalano sharing the frame, the two of them sped off in Catalano's beloved Plymouth, Red, leaving Brian Krakow hurt, confused, and in the dust. Claire Danes and Jared Leto were photographed together at the Elle Fashion Awards in London for the first time since 1995, and, my oh my, look how the years have treated them! Matthew Fox cheats on wife with stripper, Jack cries

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Lost star Matthew Fox is caught up in a sex scandal with a stripper who is young enough to be his daughter.

Fox, 43, who has been married for 18 years and has two children, is accused of cheating with 26-year-old stripper Stefani Talbott.
Talbott worked as a dancer at Stars Cabaret club in Bend, Oregon.

The cheating allegations are contained in an explosive report in the new issue of the National Enquirer, which also contains an eyewitness account from cab driver Andi Watson who says she drove Fox and Talbott to the dancer’s townhouse on December 29.

“They kissed and touched each other in the cab,” Watson told the Enquirer. She picked them up at Talbott’s home an hour and a half after dropping them off and said, “they were more romantic than before, kissing a lot more and hugging each other.”

After dropping off Fox, the cab driver then heard Watson bragging to a friend that she had sex with the Lost star, according to the Enquirer.

The article also details how the couple met, charges that they had sex on more than one occasion and claims that Fox is partying heavily.

The actor denies the charges.

TV Ratings Tuesday

After being beaten for the first time in 6 years in the ratings last Wednesday, American Idol was back on top of the ratings Tuesday night, far ahead of the Winter Olympics. Lost inched up from last Tuesday.

American Idol’s 8.9 adults 18-49 rating was down about 2% from last Tuesday, but was way ahead of the Winter Olympics (which averaged a 5.0 rating from 8-10pm).

Another nugget for the Idol vs. Olympics crowd: Following the first five hours of head-to-head competition, American Idol is outperforming the Vancouver Winter Olympics by +48% among Adults 18-49, +74% among Adults 18-34, +87% among Teens and +3% in Total Viewers.

After trailing the same night of the Torino Winter Olympics on Monday, Vancouver took a back seat again on Tuesday, its 5.4 rating was 28% lower than the same night from Torino (2/21/06). Through twelve nights, the Vancouver Winter Olympics are outperforming the 2006 Games among Adults 18-49 (6.9/19 vs. 6.4/16) and Total Viewers (25.2 vs. 21.0 Mil).

Lost inched up 2% vs. last Tuesday to a 4.6 rating, and the forgotten was flat vs. last week with a 1.7 rating.

M.I.A. Album Out in June?

Last night, M.I.A. rifled off three quick posts on her Twitter:
"BANNED FROM LEAVING THE U.S, FAMILY BANNED FROM COMING TO U.S TO SEE ME, BABY, RECORDING LP, SIGNING THE DOPEST ACTS THATS HITTIN 2010," "I THINK IM READY," and "JUNE 2010."

Which seems to suggest the U.S. government still believes she's some sort of threat and that her much anticipated third album is coming out in June. Either that, or she just really likes the month of June and wants to tell people about it.
(She also posted a link to photos from a Jeremy Scott fashion show, saying "IRANIAN PRINCESS SADE IS SPREADING.")

M.I.A. worked with producers Diplo, Rusko, Switch, Blaqstarr, and Sleigh Bells' Derek Miller on the LP. (Could the currently label-less Rising duo Sleigh Bells be one of said "DOPEST ACTS"?) Last week, Rusko Tweeted that the album is finished. And she posted a version of new song "Space Odyssey" on her Twitter last month. More info as we get it.

ShowGirls 2 Stills.....

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

When we reported last fall that unknown filmmaker Marc Vorlander had developed a sequel, and managed to raise $25 million to shoot a sequel to Paul Verhoeven's infamously terrible "Showgirls," we frankly didn't believe it.

Well, he may not have got the $25 million (it looks more like $25 and shot on a cellphone), but Vorlander now has a trailer for "Showgirls 2" and it sort of has to be seen to be believed. Warning, it's NSFW and incredibly bad, but we'll probably see it, if for anything out of gross curiosity. At its best moments it looks like one of those "Emmanuelle" movies, as if it were shot by David Lynch, but then by the end the actors start talking and it quickly spirals into a D-level atrocity.

Vorlander said he wanted Rena Riffel from the original to star, but by the looks of it, she's not in this. The plot, which can easily be gleaned from the trailer, is (roughly translated) about "a stripper who died from a dose of contaminated cocaine. Her brother comes to Frankfurt to find the person responsible and get revenge.” We're just still trying to figure out what that dumbbell scene was about, and what the skulls were for and frankly what the hell was going on for most of this.

Btw, we grabbed the screenshot from these guys who have a couple more in addition to Movieline's.

Cullens' House Up for Sale?

CNN Money and Yahoo! say yes...

There's plenty of deck space here for the Cullens' to lounge (after dark, natch).

Being a vampire in Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight series certainly has its perks: in addition to possessing devastating good looks, immortality, and superhero strength, Meyer’s blood-sucking brood live in the most luxurious, slick, beautifully appointed house in town. On CNN Money just now we saw that the real-life Cullen family abode (or, at least, the estate-turned-movie-set for Robert Pattinson and company in the film adaptation of New Moon)—an ultramodern, immaculately renovated, five-bedroom spread in West Vancouver—is on the market for a cool $2,998,000.

The home, which was given a meticulous overhaul in 2001, is set amidst a grove of towering trees, and is tucked away from the street by way of a long, meandering driveway. The soaring 20' ceilings were certainly handy for showcasing the Cullens' acrobatic skills, though the shimmering outdoor pool must have gone to waste—during daylight hours anyway. The amenities continue with a koi pond, an entertainment room with views of the adjacent creekbed, and a cushy master suite. Twi-hards with serious pocket change: time to make your move!

JWoww of ‘The Jersey Shore’ Dishes on Her Upcoming “Sexy, Edgy, Rock” Clothing Line

If you thought her cleavage-bearing array of tops would be her only contribution to the fashion world, think again. The Jersey Shore’s Jenni “JWoww” Farley is getting ready to launch a full range of clothing come July.

“I’m collaborating with three designers right now and they are all close friends of mine. It’s all about sexy, edgy, rock. I’m doing, like, a gothic rocker,” Jenni told Stylelist.com at the launch of fellow reality-star-turned designer Kim Kardashian’s Kardashians By bebe fashion show.

“It’s about the ripped look, the shredded look,” Jenni continued. Known for her barely-there clubwear and love for L.A.-based label Ed Hardy, it’s no wonder she cites the label (along with Affliction and Diesel–and rather incongruously–Marc Jacobs) as her inspiration for the collection.

A killer whale killed a trainer Wednesday afternoon at SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida, a spokesman for the Orange County Fire Department told CNN.

The spokesman, John Mulhall, said the trainer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident did not occur during a performance, said a spokeswoman for SeaWorld, who added that more information was to be released soon.

The killer whales are have a "moment" They don't feel like performing right now... about 3 hours ago via Echofon

--------------------------------------------

"Park guest Victoria Biniak told Local 6 that the trainer was a veteran of SeaWorld and had just finished explaining to the audience the show they were about to see.

At that point, Biniak said, the whale came up from the water and grabbed the woman.

"He was thrashing her around pretty good. It was violent,'" Biniak told Local 6.

The whale "took off really fast in the tank, and then he came back, shot up in the air, grabbed the trainer by the waist and started thrashing around, and one of her shoes flew off."

She said sirens went off and everyone was forced to leave the stadium."

"Local 6 is reporting that the whale involved in the incident is named Tillikum, and that whale has been involved in at least one other incident at the park.

Tillikum, nicknamed "Tilly," has a controversial past. The large whale was blamed for the drowning of one of his trainers in 1991 while he was performing at Sealand of the Pacific in British Columbia.

Sold to SeaWorld as a stud in 1992, the whale was involved in a second incident when authorities discovered the body of a naked homeless man lying across his back in July 1999.

Authorities later concluded the man, who had either snuck into SeaWorld after hours or hidden in the park until it closed, most likely drowned after suffering hypothermia in the 55-degree water.

But they also said it appeared Tillikum had bit the man and tore of his swimming trunks, likely believing he was a toy to play with.

SeaWorld has had incidents with its killer whales in the past. In 2005, a trainer was injured by what park officials called an "overly excited" whale that bumped the trainer during a live performance. The injuries were minor."

Kelly Osbourne "Took More Hell" for Weight Than Drug Addiction

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Kelly Osbourne checked into rehab for drug and alcohol addiction three times.

But the singer, 25, tells the new Us Weekly: "I took more hell for being fat than I did for being an absolute raging drug addict. I will never understand that."

The 5-foot-2 Osbourne, who once weighed "almost 160" pounds, recalls walking down the street one day and "some horrible obnoxious teenager screamed out a car window to me, 'You're fat!'" she tells Us Weekly. "I went to my parents [Sharon and Ozzy] bawling, 'I would rather be called ugly than be called fat!'"

She tells Us Weekly she "hated" herself because of her weight and "never wanted to do anything to fix it ... For a very long time, Mrs. Field's salted cookies were my favorite thing in the world ... It's hard to get out of a hole you've dug so deeply."

Today, after years of yo-yo dieting, Osbourne has lost 42 pounds the healthy way -- through regular exercise and a portion-controlled diet.

"I'm really proud to look in the mirror and not hate every single thing I see," she tells Us Weekly. "I no longer think, Why don't I look like this girl or that girl?"

5 Qs With: Tyler Florence

By Stefanie Phan | ModernLuxury.com | February 23, 2010

Making sure what’s cooking is good looking, Macy’s Culinary Council member Tyler Florence launches a line of steel-clad cookware. The Food Network star stopped by Macy’s Home Costa Mesa (macys.com) for a cooking demo.

What’s your fave home cooked meal?
It changes with the season, but just the other day my 2-year-old son wrote his first recipe. It was his variation of my recipe for pancakes with extra eggs. It’s important for me to instill memories of food and family at home with my kids.

It’s your day off, what are you drinking at Happy Hour?
One of my ’08 Zinfandel or Pinot Noir. I love those two varietals. Zin’s are the all-American grape and Pinot’s are like the femme fatale of wines—it’s like a deep, moody, beautiful woman.

Guaranteed hangover cure?
I only drink three things: coffee, water, and wine. And typically it’s in that order.

Where have you traveled lately that inspired you?
My wife and I just got back from Paris. I love that city because the French take food so seriously, there’s a respect for tradition and quality.

Guilty pleasure?
My favorite flavor in the world is coffee and I’m constantly seeking the perfect cup. A triple shot espresso made with just enough foam on top is hands down my guilty pleasure.

Loyalty lessons from Lady Gaga

Loyalty lessons from Lady Gaga

There's a lot marketers can learn from artist and musician Lady Gaga.

At age 23, Lady Gaga has rocketed to global fame in less than two years. Playing piano at age 4 and New York nightclubs at 14, she recently broke Billboard's record as the first artist to have her first five singles reach number one. She's won two Grammys, and has sold 8 million albums and 15 million singles digitally worldwide. While her performance art-style stage shows and bizarre outfits have garnered much buzz, it's her loyalty marketing that may sustain her for years. Gaga is dedicated to her fans and clearly knows the elements of cultivating a community of evangelistic fans.

With that, here are my 5 lessons about building brand loyalty, Lady Gaga-style:

Collapse )

Some artists are very protective of their image and prohibit recording devices during performances. Gaga doesn't allow professional photographers into her concerts but is ok with fans recording and putting videos on YouTube.

Whether Gaga will have staying power remains to be seen. But she is making waves in the music business and teaching plenty of people the power of fandom.

Wouldn't you like to have fans like these?

Craig Ferguson last night: no audience, one guest, a great hour of TV

Craig Ferguson had no studio audience last night, and only one guest: actor-writer-comedian-polymath Stephen Fry. They just talked. It was one of the best hours of TV I’ve seen in a while. It was also a crucial Late Late Show at a crucial time, just before the late-night wars begin once again.

Ferguson commenced the show by explaining that the “terrible thing unfolding on NBC” had driven him to think anew about the late-night traditions started by Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Johnny Carson, and “lovingly deconstructed” by David Letterman. And one of the inspirations for this one-on-one chat with Fry was a predecessor in the 12:35 time period, the late, “cranky, wonderful” Tom Snyder and his Tomorrow Show

One result of this re-thinking was last night’s “experiment”: Nothing new, Ferguson hastened to point out, but — well, yes, new enough. He and Fry wondered whether “it’s possible to talk to someone without people whooping in the background.” It certainly was.

Fry is a wonderful talker, of course. He and Ferguson discussed Hugh Laurie (he and Fry were a much-loved comic duo, Fry and Laurie, in the 1980s and early ’90s), Jersey Shore (“I’d like to have abdominal muscles like that,” said Craig) the punk rock scene in 1970s London (one of the 52 year-old Fry’s formative experiences), Zac Efron (“very beautiful and very talented,” remarked the eternally open-minded Ferguson), and Twitter (Fry is an avid, prolific “early adopter,” as he put it, and remember you can follow you-know-who #CraigyFerg).

They talked about Fry’s cocaine use, Craig’s alcohol use, and the uselessness of getting older. “I doubt I would recognize Lady Gaga if she walked into a room unless she had a wedding cake on her head,” admitted Fry. “I feel like a fogey,” said Ferguson, “but the best way to [combat] that is not to talk about how good things used to be, but appreciate what’s new.”

What was new last night was this old-fashioned hour, in which two people conversed in an enlightening, deceptively casual way. It was terrific to see two pros like this.

PART 1

Of last nights show Craig has said on Twitter "Odd show. Some will like it. Some won't" So what do you guys think of the format change? Imo it worked, but only for a guest like Stephen Fry (i'm biased of course since i'm completely and utterly in love with Mr Fry)

Yung Berg got his chain snatched by some dark butts again

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Epic/E1 Records rapper Yung Berg is not new to robbery and altercation. The Chicago-born rapper who began his career as an artist on DMX's Bloodline Records was victim to a highly-publicized attacking in Detroit in 2008 that involved rapper Trick Trick. That incident left Berg with his jewelry stolen, and began a series of online postings taunting the then-21 year-old entertainer. Later that year, rapper Maino also "slapped" Berg at a New York event and told the press, he let Berg "keep his chain."

That was not the case this past weekend, says Los Angeles police officials. TMZ.com reports that during a party at a gathering in a Los Angeles' historic Mulholland Drive, four men trespassed at 2am Monday morning (February 22). After waving pistols, the assailants pistol-whipped two of the party-goers, one of which was Berg, and split with a reported $10,000 in cash and jewels.

At the time of TMZ's story, Berg's reps state that the rapper was in Las Vegas during the weekend. That rep said they had heard nothing about Monday's incident.

JoJo Posts New (boring) song on MySpace

“Hey pals! Just posted a song called “Wait a Minute (For Your Love)” I wrote with Jordan Gatsby a while ago that I wanted to share. It’s just a record that I love, which probably won’t make the album (since this doesn’t at all fit the direction) but still represents a genre of music that inspires me. Making this was so much fun. We recorded it at this ill studio in Boston called Sanctum Sound and had some fantastic musicians come in and sprinkle their gifts upon it. I’m still recording for the album. Slow and steady wins the race. I’m doing all that I can to get new material out ASAP. Thank you for your support and I can’t wait to see you all again soon.”

John Mayer Does Something Adorably Nice, For Once

During a performance on Sunday, John Mayer proved he does know how to play nice when he pulled 11 year-old, Austin on stage to play with him. The little boy was standing in the crowd holding a sign that read, "Can I please play 'Belief' with you?" Not only that, but Mayer also gave Austin his guitar after the performance.

Austin was so excited about the performance that his mom sent a letter of gratitude to John's team, part of which read, "[John] made an 11 year old’s dream come true. John gave him the guitar after the show and we needed security to get out of the stadium."

Will former Best Picture contender 'Up in the Air' have to settle for screenplay?

Malcolm will get screwed

In a long awards season, the weeks from early to December to the end of February feel more like a decade than the few months the constitute. So, it's no surprise that the Best Picture frontrunner at that critical juncture is rarely the winner when Oscar eventually crosses the finish line. That, sadly, is the fate that has met Jason Reitman's "Up in the Air."

Adored when it debuted at the Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals in early September, "Air's' campaign was built on a groundswell of buzz and critical acclaim timed to peak for its limited debut in December. At that time, "The Hurt Locker" was only as a potential Best Picture nominee, but unlikely winner; "Air's" only real competition was expected to be Clint Eastwood's "Invictus"; and after early bad buzz, "Avatar" was perceived as just a Sci-Fi player at the box office. And while "Air" continued to perform well in theaters and Academy screening rooms, as the holidays grew closer the story dramatically became about a surprising raves for "Avatar" and the domination of year end accolades by "Locker." So, while Paramount Pictures pulled out every stop possible to ease the tide, "Air" has slowly, slowly, slowly faded from the spotlight. Except from the one race it has dominated: screenplay.

YouTube gives up on original 'Rickroll' then claims removal was a mistake

In what's either the saddest or most fantastic news of the week, the YouTube video for Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" has been deemed a copyright violation.

Yes, that means the cheesy '80s pop video with tens of millions of views--the center of the "Rickrolling" Internet phenomenon--is no more.

It's not quite clear when it was removed, but the blog Neowin noticed it early Wednesday. "Never Gonna Give You Up" comes from the Astley album "Whenever You Need Somebody," which was released by RCA Records, currently a division of Sony Music Entertainment.

The music industry is notoriously complex and bureaucratic, and the copyrights associated with it are often quite arcane, so it also isn't particularly clear as to why the song was pulled now--after being such a high-profile video on the site for years.

But there's already been some controversy over it. Last spring, one of the song's co-authors said he'd barely made a cent off its YouTube notoriety and said that YouTube parent company Google effectively "exploited" him. The industry just hasn't yet figured out how to handle Internet cult fame, as evidenced by Warner Music Group's silencing of a video that superimposed the Web meme "Keyboard Cat" into the video for Daryl Hall and John Oates' "You Make My Dreams."

Then there's OK Go, the pop group whose video for "Here It Goes Again" was one of YouTube's first breakout hits; the band's label, EMI, has disabled video embeds for all its artists. OK Go has made it clear that it's not happy but has acknowledged the label's right to do what it did.

On the flip side, Astley was a more or less forgotten pop star when forum community 4Chan began "Rickrolling" one another; by fall 2008, the pop-culture prank was so mainstream that Cartoon Network enlisted Astley himself to jump out of a float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

There are still multiple other copies of the "Never Gonna Give You Up" video on YouTube, so basically you aren't safe yet.

UPDATE: Rejoice! Google says that the Rickroll was flagged mistakenly: "With 20 hours of video uploaded every minute to YouTube, we count on our community members to know our Community Guidelines and to flag content they believe violates them," a statement from the company read. "We review all flagged content quickly, and if we find that a video does violate the guidelines, we remove it, on average in under an hour. We also have a team that is dedicated to identifying and removing spam from YouTube. Occasionally, a video flagged by users or identified by our spam team is mistakenly taken down. When this is brought to our attention, we review the content and take appropriate action, including restoring video or videos that had been removed."

Victoria Beckham is so nasty. Why doesn’t she just go home?! Her dresses are beautiful, but I don’t care what she does. She’s mean to all the people around her. She’s too short to be a diva. We all use the same hairdressers, make-up artists, limo-drivers and greeters at the airports in LA and nobody has anything nice to say about her. They say she’s rude. She can’t always just be having a bad day . . . Victoria Beckham should get a life. I am not a fan of outrageous consumption. I think it is vulgar. PETA Puts Up Tiger Woods Billboard

Using his mistakes as a way to remind pet owners to spay and neuter their cats and dogs, animal rights group PETA plans to put up a new, eye-catching billboard featuring Tiger Woods .

The group said it hopes to post the billboard which shows a picture of Woods and reads, “Too Much Sex Can Be a Bad Thing ... For Little Tigers Too. Help Keep Your Cats (and Dogs) Out of Trouble: Always Spay or Neuter! PETA” near Woods’ Isleworth home in Windermere, FL.

The golf pro has no formal affiliation with the organization and has not previewed or endorsed the ad, according to the group, which said the image and idea were “too good to pass up.”

Hoping to make a negative into a positive, PETA’s Executive Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch says, “The millions of cats and dogs born each year in this country without good homes to go to don’t make tabloid headlines, but their suffering is 100 percent real.”

On if music was something he always wanted to do or if it found him: I know my mom played the 12-string acoustic guitar, I always have memories of her writing songs so I think that was always embedded in me at an early age. Basically, when she lost interest and put the guitar away I started basically borrowing it and she taught me a couple of chords and I just kinda took it from there. I didn’t really know what I was doing, I didn’t have any training, I just started writing these songs. The age of 12 to 18 were really difficult for me because my dad basically just left. And my mom was left to raise us so it was a difficult time and I think that’s how I processed through everything I was going through was writing, it started as poetry and as I grew as a musician I started writing all these songs. One song in particular a song called Trying I wrote when I was 15-16, it was one of my first songs, it’s a song off of our first record.. It just kinda happened naturally out of necessity....

The NBC Failboat Continues

An Unfortunate Oops: That Was Not Rochette’s Dad

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
During Joannie Rochette’s performance Tuesday night, NBC identified Denys Valiquette, left, as her father. Normand Rochette, right, was in the arena, but not in the seat where NBC expected him. Valiquette is a family friend.

NBC had the most heart-rending of stories to tell when the Canadian skater Joannie Rochette competed in the short program Tuesday night, only days after her mother, Therese, died from a heart attack after arriving in Vancouver.

Unfortunately, it told that story by repeatedly cutting to a shot of a man in the stands the announcers identified as Rochette’s father, Normand, only to find out later, the network was showing the wrong man. Normand Rochette was watching the performance at Pacific Coliseum, but the man NBC identified as her father was actually a family friend, Denys Valiquette.

“We were given his seat assignment by Skate Canada,” NBC said in a statement. “It turned out that information was incorrect. We are deeply sorry for the mistake.”

NBC hurried to make that statement on its late night broadcast, during which the host Mary Carillo read the network’s apology. On the video of Rochette’s emotional performance,
still on NBCOlympics.com, the camera shots of Valiquette are still visible but the commentary identifying him as her father has been removed. What you hear now when his face is on the screen is arena background noise.

But on video, the stomach-twisting mistake lives on.

SOURCE

I guess regardless even if this guy wasn't her dad, he still had me crying when I saw him. I was already crying hard enough once the music stopped after Joannie's performance. He's a family friend at least. I truly hope Joannie does well on Thursday. Bless her.

Doubts about purported Michael Jackson 911 tape

A recording purported to be a call from the ambulance rushing Michael Jackson to a hospital the day he died was not "typical" of paramedic procedure, according to a Los Angeles Fire Department official.

A British tabloid posted the recording online, suggesting it was evidence that Jackson had no pulse at that time -- contrary to what his personal doctor said.

The Sun newspaper did not reveal the source of the recording, but characterized it as a "911 tape."

Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said he was skeptical about the authenticity of the audio, adding that it "did not come from our agency."

Vancouver Games & Gender: Lindsay Vonn to Johnny Weir

Vancouver Games & gender: Lindsay Vonn to Johnny Weir
By Sarah Jaffe | Published: February 24, 2010

Last week, writing about sports as labor, I noted that sports are a form of collective identification—of solidarity—a way to bring a community together around feats of strength and competition that have nothing to do with war or resources.

The Winter Olympics are going on, and they show off this identification principle in the extreme. People who think little of patriotism are encouraged to support their nation’s athletes who do this not for money, like pro teams (though many of these athletes are professionals) but for glory—for themselves and for their country. It’s international competition (and sometimes obnoxious jingoism), but with a nonviolent goal.

The Olympics are problematic in many ways—when they come to a city, policing ramps up and the poor are shuttled out of the way. I don’t want to denigrate the very real protests against the Olympic industry any more than I do the real complaints against public spending on U.S. pro sports stadiums while people live in poverty blocks away.

But I love the Olympics. For the first time since I’ve moved, I wish I still owned a TV. I love the sudden obsession of people across the world with sports that are almost never mentioned in the other three years. Luge? Skeleton? Suddenly we all know these athletes’ names and can banter them with our friends the same way we normally exchange references to TV shows.

The Olympics also allow focus on female athletes—suddenly we see the female equivalent of men’s sports we’re used to cheering, as well as brilliant individual athletes in sports most people usually don’t follow. Even if they haven’t seen her, most people now know Lindsay Vonn’s name. And women’s ice hockey? I got your women’s ice hockey.

Chris Brown Feels Sorry for Tiger Woods

Earlier today, Chris Brown told Mojo in the Morning: "My hat is off to [Tiger Woods] -- I support him." The singer even drew a comparison between himself and the embattled sports icon, saying they both deserve a break!

Both stars have had an image crisis after being involved in shocking scandals -- Brown for beating then girlfriend Rihanna and Woods for a bizarre accident that was never explained as news broke he had numerous affairs on his wife.

"Whatever his personal life is -- and I think this goes for me and him -- his personal life is his personal life," the singer said on Mojo in the Morning. "I do music, I sing songs, like, I'm an entertainer, I'm a performer, but people make mistakes," he added. "So my hat is off to him -- I support him, I hope he gets back on the field and does his thing, cause he is the best at it."

Zac Efron gives stupid cancer the bird

Collapse )

In addition to this photo, Zac has recently been spotted around LA wearing the i[2]y/stupidcancer wristband to bring some attention to the I'm Too Young For This! cancer foundation. He got involved because Emily is his cousin. This is the organization's story:

Nearly 70,000 Americans in their teens, 20s and 30s are diagnosed each year. This not OK and it's time their voices were heard.

The I'm Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation is the nation's leading grassroots advocate for the next generation of survivors and caregivers. We are the voice of young adults affected by cancer and exist solely to fill a void no other organization does.

Wear the band, give cancer the bird and know that 100% of your purchase goes directly to helping survivors regain their dignity and live their lives. This is generation cancer. It's our time. It's about time. Take action and learn more at StupidCancer.com.

Rihanna 'denies autobiography plans'

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Rihanna has dismissed reports that she is planning to release an autobiography.

Despite recent speculation that she was preparing a 'name and shame' book about her life, the Rated R popstar has now insisted that she does not want to reveal any more about her private life to the public.

"It would be a very long book, and it's not in the plan right now," Showbiz Spy quotes her as saying. "Anyway, the world knows a little too much about me at the moment.

"I don't think they need to know any more. But if I change my mind I'll let you know."

Jon Hamm Responds To Fans Campaigning For Him To Play A Superhero

There are a few actors out there who regularly pop up in our reader polls and Secret Identity casting columns as potential casting options for Superman, Captain America, and other prominent superhero movie roles. One of those actors is "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm, who has the distinction of not only being a favorite among readers and the Splash Page team, but also of having his name tossed around by various creators and filmmakers, too.

Along with receiving a fair share of fan support to play Superman, Green Lantern, and Captain America, comics-friendly filmmaker Kevin Smith raved to MTV News back in October that Hamm would make a great Superman or Batman. "Fear Agent" creators Rick Remender and Tony Moore also said Hamm is at the top of their list of actors who could bring sci-fi cowboy Heath Hudson to the big screen. Heck, we even suggested him for a role in a "Herbie: The Fat Fury" movie.

When MTV News caught up with Hamm last month, we ran down the long list of superheroes that fans want him to play. Here's what he had to say about it:

What Say We Settle This On the Runway ... Han-Solo?

It looks like Ben Stiller’s long-in-development sequel to Zoolander might actually be happening. Finke has learned that Ben Stiller has been working on a script with Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2 screenwriter Justin Theroux. Paramount Pictures wants to keep the budget low (under $50 million) as the first film was not a box office hit. The current plan is for Theroux to direct, and Jonah Hill is apparently in early talks to play the sequel’s villain. Theroux will be at Fashion Week in Paris to “immerse himself on what is current in fashion”.

Stiller has said in the past that a sequel would be set 10 years later with Derek Zoolander dealing with the fact that he is no longer a model, possibly spending his days running a modeling school and taking care of his now 10 or 11 years old son. Stiller has also said that a sequel couldn’t be made without Owen Wilson reprising his role as Hansel.

I know the first film has developed something of a cult following after disappointing at the box office, but something tells me that the world still isn’t ready for another Zoolander film.

Robert Buckley may have been cast as Captain America

Hours ago, Comic Book Movie reported a rumor from an “inside source” that actor Robert Buckley has been selected to play Captain America for Marvel Studios’ upcoming films.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve finally seen some movement on the long-awaited project with revelations from the director Joe Johnston that the casting process was moving forward with 5-6 candidates and a due date for selection set at March 1st. Filming is scheduled to begin in June and no supporting cast members have been cast.

While there is some other buzz reporting that Marvel may have made the decision, the original post at CBM has been pulled and at the time, they said it was a rumor themselves. We’ve seen far too many untrue rumors develop like this in the past so it is difficult to believe at the moment until we hear more.

Either way, if Marvel has made their decision already, or even if they haven’t, we’ll be seeing official confirmation very soon with the deadline fast approaching.

As our our old friend Jamie at IESB points out, Robert Buckley does fit the description set forth by Joe Johnston and is an unknown actor, American-born, 6′2″ with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Other rumored and confirmed candidates include Chris Pine, Ryan McPartlin and Chad Michael Murray. Interestingly, Buckley’s current gig is for the TV series One Tree Hill for which he replaced the character played by Chad Michael Murray, who starred in the program since its inception.

The First Avenger: Captain America hits July 22, 2011 and The Avengers is scheduled to debut May 4, 2012.

love him and i think it would be good for his career. he also confirmed in his e! news interview he might get the part.

TRON LEGACY

FOR THE THREE PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT TRON AND NOT DAFT PUNK

TRON: LEGACY TRAILER PREMIERE EVENT, PLUS NEW FILM STILL

Apparently Disney is holding an exclusive limited event this Saturday (27 February) in five cities around the world: New York, Los Angeles, London, Toronto and Sydney.

Tickets will be released on the Pit Cell website at 4:00pm eastern time on Thursday.
NOTE: YOU NEED TO BE REGISTERED ON FLYNN LIVES IN ORDER TO RESERVE TICKETS

The event is likely an early premiere of the Tron: Legacy two and a half minute movie trailer, which will be attached to Alice in Wonderland next week. Notice that all the events are scheduled at IMAX Theatres. The last time 42 Entertainment (the company running the viral) did this it was to premiere the opening bank robbery scene from The Dark Knight. So while unlikely, there is the possibility that they will be showing more than a trailer.

Courtney Love Wants To Hate Fuck John Mayer, Has A Powerful Vagina

Courtney Love has finally read John Mayer's Playboy interview in which he discusses sexual napalm Jessica Simpson and his white supremacist dick, and her reaction can be found on Twitter.

"do you ever feel like spite hate fucking @johncmayer just to put hi in his place, hes a better guitarist than me but not better in bed !" Love tweeted. "but like say your fucking @johncmayer totally throwing him around the room in bits and then you just BAM punch him in the face? good times"

Love took special issue with Mayer's comments on his sex life with his famous girlfriends.

"ive said far stupider shit than @johncmayer about my alist bfs tho ive been discreet. but about rockers i spill the beans," she continued.

Even though she feels Mayer deserves a good hate fuck, Love says he's not really her type.

"oh dudes Mayers a little bland for me and youngish ill do young, but hes neither Yale Harvard Oxford and hes not really rock, so not for me," she wrote. And to a fan who asked her to clarify hate fucking, she wrote, "hate fucking is an art like 'the pit' meaning you rape each other and then beat the shit our of each other so u can feel shit."

Although Mayer has resurfaced on Twitter after swearing to "quit the media game" two weeks ago, he has not addressed Love's comments. If he ever takes Love up on her offer, he might experience another powerful vagina.

"my genealogist and my gynocplogist know i do my Kegals like a snatch the cig off the table thai sex worker," Love tweeted later.
