Sneak Peek of Hilary Duff's new movie Provinces of Night

E.F. Bloodworth has returned to his home - a forgotten corner of Tennessee - after forty years of roaming. The wife he walked out on has withered and faded, his three sons are grown and angry. Warren is a womanizing alcoholic, Boyd is driven by jealousy to hunt down his wife and her lover, and Brady puts hexes on his enemies from his mamma's porch. Only Fleming, the old man's grandson, treats him with the respect his age commands, and sees past all the hatred to realize the way it can poison a man's soul. It is ultimately the love of Raven Lee, a sloe-eyed beauty from another town, that gives Fleming the courage to reject this family curse.

So Who/What does LA Times find Over- and Underrated?

"Snap judgments and considered criticism of pop culture and beyond from the staff of The Hot List."

Lil Wayne as rock star: We hate to dump on a guy who's about to go away on gun-possession charges, but we hope this gifted rapper will use his time in prison to remember what he does best, and it isn't the uninspired rap-rock on his long-delayed album "Rebirth." We usually love when musical styles mix, but when the result just reminds us of the worst of Woodstock '99, we draw the line.

Haaaaaaay Bryan Greenberg

Bryan Greenberg may play a cool character in HBO’s new series “How To Make It In America,” but for the indie film “The Good Guy,” he had to take a different tack.

“I just tried to play the most awkward version of myself,” he told AccessHollywood.com of his role as Wall Street newcomer Daniel in the film, due on February 19. “I think Daniel just wasn’t blessed with the social talents.”

In one scene, he approaches two women in a bar – only to wind up asking for a napkin instead of their numbers, a scene that he admitted was more true to life.

“I’m pretty good with talking to girls if I have an introduction, but I’m the worst at trying to go pick up a girl,” the former “October Road” and “One Tree Hill” star said. “I’m really bad at breaking the ice. It’s awkward! It’s this weird position that the male species is forced into from society. Girls have it [hard] in a lot of ways… they have to bear children… but guys usually have the responsibility of breaking the ice.”

To step into the role, Bryan said he went a little method.

“When I was shooting the film, I didn’t choose to stay downtown with the rest of the cast, I stayed uptown. I just didn’t want anyone to stay too comfortable around me, or vice versa,” he said. “It was new for me. I’m not a method actor [but] I [do] try to live in the character’s world a little bit.”

That character, he added, is “a very extreme contrast from the character I’m playing in ‘How To Make It In America’” – his new HBO comedy, where he plays Ben Epstein, a man trying to make it in New York’s fashion scene.

“It’s so good to be back” with HBO, Bryan said. “I did ‘Unscripted’ a couple years ago [with them]. They let you take risks.”

With all of his new work, fans of his “One Tree Hill” days may be wondering when the sometime-musician will be showing off his singer-songwriter skills once more.

“I’ve got a bunch of new songs,” Bryan said. “[But] I broke my wrist.”

When his cast comes off, he said, he’ll be heading for the studio – and looking forward to debuting his mellow musical side.

“I’m definitely a singer-songwriter,” he said. “I’m somewhere in the vein between Elliott Smith and Jack Johnson.”

Rihanna Comments on "Oh!" Plagiarism Accusation

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Rihanna visited Korea on February 10 for her new album "Rated R" promotion, and was questioned about her opinion on SNSD's accusation.

During a press conference held 12:30 PM on February 11 relating to her newly released album, Rihanna was asked what her thoughts were about the recent accusation. In response to this, Rihanna responded, "I never heard such story. Since I've never heard it, I have no comments about it."

Soon after "Oh!" was released, accusations arose that the SNSD's song had plagiarized Rihanna's "Shut Up and Drive," which was one of Billboard's Top 10 songs.

Jennifer Lopez & Alex O'loughlin ET Interview + USA Today interview

Talking about their movie "The Back-up plan".

(he's hot and she's gorgeous - )

USA Today Interview.

Lopez plays Zoe, a thirtysomething woman who decides to have a child on her own. But in a twist of rom-com fate, she meets Stan, a potential "Mr. Right," when she is on the way home from being artificially inseminated.

Lopez, a romantic-comedy veteran, says she isn't sure that she could have tackled parenthood on her own if her life had taken a different course. The singer/actress is married to singer Marc Anthony.

"I know a couple of people, both people I work with and friends, who have done this," Lopez says. "I just don't know if I could do this, honestly. Now I know how much I rely on my partner. ... Knowing what single moms go through, I think it takes such an amazing person to do that. You get to a point in your life and you think about it, and I think it's a beautiful thing to be able to find the strength to do that on your own. That child will enrich your life. It's a beautiful thing to think that option is there."

That option creates some confusion for Stan, played by Alex O'Loughlin, and Zoe, as the two try to navigate the ups and downs of dating during the pregnancy.

Did Holly Robinson Peete Gush Too Soon?

John Mayer isn't the only one under attack for his now infamous Playboy interview.

Holly Robinson Peete found herself getting some major flak for gushing to me yesterday about how flattered she was by Mayer praising her in said article.

She took to her blog last night to explain what happened...

In short, Peete admits she should have read the entire Mayer interview before she spoke to me.

"It's the biggest no-no of them all and coupled with the White Supremacist 'privates' comments it dawns hard on me that by gushing in public about a compliment by one of my fave artists in this article filled with offenses I look like I am giving him some sort of 'free pass' just cause he said I was cute!" Peete wrote. "Ugh! The whole picture became so vivid. And it began to scare the mess out of me."

The critics continued to pounce when she tried to explain herself on Twitter. "By tweeting he likely wasn't racist...and for seemingly mounting a defense for his racial insensitivities I got twitter-slapped by my peers and labeled a 'Mammie,' " Peete wrote. "And after 25 years in the business that's a first for my resume."

Peete insists she did not write the blog post to defend what she or Mayer said.

"I just hate that anyone would have the impression I condone or excuse racist comments in any context," she wrote. "I do not. That notion would not go over too well during Kwanzaa at the Peete house! That's so not me."

(You can read Peete's entire post at Hollyrod.org.)

Ashlee sells Beverly Hills Home

Ashlee Simpson lists Beverly Hills area home at $4 million

In the latest real-life installment of the Ashlee Simpson show, the singer-songwriter-actress has listed a Mediterranean-style villa on a private street in the Beverly Hills area for $4 million. Simpson owned the property before her marriage to Fall Out Boy rocker Pete Wentz in 2008.

The walled and gated compound has hillside and canyon views. There are five bedrooms and 6 1/2 bathrooms in 7,100 square feet of living space on more than half an acre.

The living room features cathedral beamed ceilings, walnut plank floors and French doors that open to decks with views. The multilevel home, built in 1992 and centered on a courtyard, has an eat-in kitchen, an upstairs master bedroom suite with his-and-her closets, a fitness room and a media room leading outside to a swimming pool and spa.

The courtyard contains a meditation garden with a fountain and fire pit. A two-story guesthouse is adjacent to the pool.

The versatile Simpson, 25, made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in "Chicago" last fall. She starred in the 2004-05 reality TV series "The Ashlee Simpson Show" following a regular stint on "7th Heaven" (2002-04). More recently she appeared on "Melrose Place" (2009) but is no longer on the show.

She released the No. 1 albums "Autobiography" in 2004 and "I Am Me" in 2005, followed by "Bittersweet World," in 2008. She is the younger sister of pop star Jessica Simpson, for whom she was a backup dancer.

Fall Out Boy bassist and lyricist Wentz, 30, has business ventures including a clothing line and nightclubs.

Simpson bought the property in 2007 for $4.5 million, according to public records, which also show comedian Rita Rudner as among the house's former owners.

Lauren Conrad Tops The New York Times Bestseller List – Again!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

First came candy, and now it's lies – Sweet Little Lies, that is. Lauren Conrad's second book has topped the New York Times bestseller list.

"It's so gratifying for my second book to be so successful and it was so fun to write! The characters were already developed so I really enjoyed the process so much more this time around," Conrad tells PEOPLE. "All the characters have become like my friends now."

The second novel still follows the main character, Jane Roberts, a young reality star in Hollywood, but now with some experience under her belt, she sees some of the pitfalls of the fame game.

"I just sat in bed writing and it was the best process," says the former star of The Hills and Laguna Beach. "Who gets to work from home in their PJ's?"

Conrad, 24, who is promoting the novel on a book tour, braved the snowy East Coast weather. "It was like Planes, Trains & Automobiles," she jokes of traveling through the storm and enduring canceled flights.

"I'm just so thankful to my fans. Everyone is coming out to see me in the snow," she says. "I just can't believe it."

Sweet Little Lies follows her hugely successful debut novel, L.A. Candy which also topped the best seller list. Conrad's second novel in her three-book deal hit shelves earlier this month.

Lady Gaga Pays Silent Tribute to Alexander McQueen

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Lady Gaga remembered her friend and fashion icon Alexander McQueen on Friday by tweeting a photo of them in a happy embrace.

Gaga was the late McQueen's unofficial muse, wearing his designs on both the red carpet and in her work. Remember the red lace see-through outfit at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards? Those "armadillo" heels she rocks in her "Bad Romance" video? McQueen's, of course.

No Fashion Week for Tina Fey: ‘I Feel Like I’d Get Busted’

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
March cover girl Tina Fey might tell Vogue that she’s “represent[ing] normalcy in some way.” But there is nothing ordinary about her incredible sense of humor and ability to be self-deprecating above all else, whether joking about being out of place at Fashion Week (“I get invited to fashion shows,” says Fey, “but I feel like I’d get busted if I went to them. People would be like, ‘Who you tryin’ to be?’”), or accepting the criticism for her much-maligned Zac Posen dress at this year’s Golden Globes. “Do you think George Clooney will hold a telethon for my dress?” she jokes.

But she does explain that she’s figured out in general what works — and what doesn’t — in terms of dressing. “I am a fan of the deep V. These are the things I learned from my friends who are cutter/drapers: I have an hourglass figure; I do have a waist, but I have full hips and I have decent shoulders. So that V is good for me. Not good on me? Spaghetti straps. It looks like when you tie up a roast before you put it in the oven.”

And lest we think that she’s dressing strictly for red carpet critics, she explains the age-old truth that women dress for each other. “I think women dress for other women to let them know what their deal is. Because if women were only dressing for men, there would be nothing but Victoria’s Secret. There would be no Dior.”

It’s all a long way up from her favorite childhood outfit of a hand-me-down colonial costume. “It consisted of a bonnet,” says Fey, “and a burlap apron and a long skirt. And I would just wear it sometimes after school. As an outfit… It was the Bicentennial! People were excited!”

Jessica Alba in 'Scarlet' Magazine

The best thing about being famous:
“Making lots of money has made me happy. No one else helped me - I’ve done this all by my self, on my own terms. My dad’s also turned his real-estate business round and doing really well, and my brother acts, models and does mortgages, so we’ve all come up in the world. Anyone out there who gets bullied should realise that they can take control of their lives and succeed”.

Describing her ideal man:
“I go for a shy, nerdy type of guy, and I always prefer older men. I’m pretty wary of really good-looking guys and actually, as an actress, you work with so many men, you become completely immune. Deep down it’s probably because they were always the ones who ignored me when I was younger. I feel much more at home with normal, regular guys. Older men are much more comfortable within their skin and are out to prove less”.

On doing a nude scene:
“No, i’ll never do a nude scene. I can act sexy and wear sexy clothes but I can’t go naked. I think I was always very uncomfortable about the way my body developed, and I remember my grandmother would freak out and throw a towel over me if she saw me wearing just a bra and panties. I come from a very Catholic family so it wasn’t seen as a good thing to flaunt yourself like that. I can handle being sexy with clothes on but not with them off”.

Riri nigthmares

And the Academy award goes to...

Rihanna has been cast in her first starring role!
The only catch… the folks behind the film aren’t all that confident in RihRih’s acting. Pop the hood for details:

Rihanna’s big role is for a film called About Face, which revolves around a fashion designer who has to change her ways to win over the man of her dreams, not unlike the Billy Dee Williams and Diana Ross classic Mahogany. Here’s the hitch:

“No one is sure she has any acting skills. She’s a bit stiff and has to learn how to emote more,” a source tells Star. “She’s been asked to quietly take acting classes. No one wants another Madonna on their hands — someone who can sing but can’t act!”

Hate to break it to the producers of this one, but Rihanna can’t do either. Neither can Madonna if you want to be all the way real about it. Then again, Rihanna actually might make a decent actress, goodness knows we’ve seen her play the role enough…

Im still waiting for The bodyguard remake starring Rihanna and Channing Tatum though, was that just a rumor? It was so perfectly wrong and ridiculous, I was excited to see it.

Georgian Olympic Luge Competitor Critically Injured in Crash

WHISTLER - Georgian luge competitor Nodar Kumaritashvili was sent to Whistler Hospital on Friday after a terrifying crash at Whistler Olympic Park.

There are reports that Kumaritashvili has died.

Kumaritashvili was going near 150 km/h near the end of the course, when he launched off the track.

Witnesses say his body hit a metal pole. CPR was performed almost immediately and an ambulance rushed Kumaritashvili from Whistler Olympic Park.

The Province's Terry Bell has been told that Kumaritashvili hit his head on a metal pole as he flew off the track. Medical personnel performed CPR through a plastic tube. "It does not look good," says Bell.

Kumaritashvili turned 21 in November. He has competed in luge for Georgia since 2008.

Earlier Friday during luge training, one of the event favourites got a scare. The 2002 and 2006 gold medallist Armin Zoeggler of Italy crashed rounding corner 11.'

Zoeggler slid about 200 metres while holding his sled with one hand to keep from being hit with it. Zoeggler recovered from his crash and took his second run in a fast 47.9 to put him near the top of the training times.

On Wednesday there were several crashes during women's luge training runs. Romania's Violeta Stramaturaru crashed and was knocked unconscious for a few minutes and was taken to the hospital. Zoeggler recovered from his crash and took his second run in a fast 47.9 to put him near the top of the training times.

EDIT -- What appears to be the fastest luge track in Olympic history has taken the life of Georgian luge competitor Nodar Kumaritashvili.

Georgian luge competitor Nodar Kumaritashvili was sent to Whistler Hospital on Friday after a terrifying crash at Whistler Olympic Park and died.

Kumaritashvili was going near 150 km/h near the end of the course, when he launched off the track.

Athletes said before the competition began that this was the fastest track ever but they also seemed overly confident:

"I don't think there's reason to fear the track," said American luger Tony Benshoof.

"It took me 10 or 12 runs before it started slowing down in my mind. I expect we'll hit 100 miles per hour" he added.

"I personally don't think there's reasons to fear it. We've all had training there so we all know how to make it down" said fellow American luger Erin Hamlin.

I just saw the whole thing on my tv, and I'm shaken up by it. It was so graphic. Of course this would happen in my city. So sad. :( :(

All that stuff will also show up in the Deluxe Edition. Katie Price steals Lindsay Lohan’s thunder in Vienna

Katie Price steals Lindsay Lohan’s thunder in Vienna

Glamour model the belle of the ball as Mean Girls star fails to show after duty free cock up.

UK glamour model Katie Price sparkled at the Vienna Opera Ball last night. Which is more than can be said for star guest Lindsay Lohan who failed to turn up for the society event despite having demanded a private jet to fly her to Austria from L.A.

The event at the Vienna State Opera House  which attracts royalty and aristocrats from around the continent is one of the most prestigious dates on the Austrian social calendar.

Lohan was offered $150,000 to be the date of veteran Austrian tycoon Richard Lugner, who famously pays a different female celebrity to be his date at the ball every year.

Previous escorts include  Nicollette Sheridan, Dita Von Teese, Paris Hilton, Raquel Welch and Sophia Loren.

But the Mean Girls star failed to show after spending too long shopping in duty free. She was then unable to come up with the £14,000 fee for delaying the flight and instead spent the evening partying at a H-Wood night club in Hollywood.

The slap in the face was made doubly worse by the fact the 23 year-old actress had already driven her host to distraction over her demands

He told the Austrian press: “She refuses to take a scheduled flight and told me I must get a private jet sorted out for her. I managed to book an eight-seat jet, but she refused to accept my offer.

“She claimed it would be too uncomfortable and she would not be able to get any sleep when travelling in it. I haven’t got a choice, I suppose.”

The party hard bisexual Mean Girls star had replaced Price as Lugner’s first choice after he un-invited the newly wed glamour model mother-of-three after she broke a media embargo about the invite.

But Katie had the last laugh last night as dressed in a stunning baby blue blue, strapless ball gown and  dripping with diamonds she stole the limelight, while Lugner was left cursing Lohan’s no show and forced to call on younger girlfriend Anastasia 'Katzi' Sokol to be his escort at the eleventh hour.

Katie, who was invited as a guest by Austrian entrepreneurial couple Irene and Alexander Mayer arrived in Vienna alone without new hubby CBB winner Alex Reid. During her trip the horse- mad model took the opportunity to visit the Spanish riding school

Her date for the night was German playboy and nightclub tycoon Marcus Prinz von Anhalt, the 'adopted' son of Zsa Zsa Gabor and her husband Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt.

Lohan fails at life.

Tina Fey Covers 'Vogue' March 2010

Tina Fey
keeps it classy on the March 2010 cover of Vogue, the mag’s eighth annual power issue. Here’s what the 39-year-old funny woman opened up about:

On normal girls: “I feel like I represent normalcy in some way. What are your choices today in entertainment? People either represent youth, power, or sexuality. And then there’s me, carrying normalcy. (pauses) Me and Rachael Ray.”

On America’s weight issues: “People will say, ‘Oh, fashion magazines they're so bad, they’re giving girls a negative message’—but we’re also the fattest country in the world, so it’s not like we’re all looking at fashion magazines and not eating. Maybe it just starts a shame cycle: I’m never going to look like that model, so… Chicken McNuggets it is! And conversely, I don’t look at models who are crazy skinny and think I want to look like that, because a lot of them are gigantic, with giant hands and giant feet.”

On wearing hand-me-downs: (When she was in grade school, a cousin gave her some hand-me-downs that included a “colonial-lady” Halloween costume) “It consisted of a bonnet and a burlap apron and a long skirt. And I would just wear it sometimes after school. As an outfit… It was the Bicentennial! People were excited!”

Color Commentary: When Celebrities Talk Interracial Dating

Yesterday, the Internet was on fire because of racially insensitive comments made by John Mayer. In an interview with Playboy, Mayer called himself a “good guy” and said he loved being liked but then went on to say he dreamed of writing pornography, described his former girlfriend Jessica Simpson as “sexual napalm,” and even used the n-word. But that’s not the worst of it: When Playboy asked Mayer if he dated black women his response was, “My dick is sort of like a white supremacist. I’ve got a Benetton heart and a fuckin’ David Duke cock.”

Mayer has since apologized via his Twitter account and on stage for comparing his privates to a former Ku Klux Klan member.
Although the interview has been a PR disaster for Mayer, we’re not all that surprised by his comments. In fact, a number of celebrities have expressed certain “preferences” when it came to dating. Here’s some other celebrities who have made racially charged comments regarding dating outside their race

Disney’s Rapunzel Retitled Tangled

Walt Disney Animation Studios’s 2010 computer animated release Rapunzel has been retitled Tangled. Producer Roy Conli explains:

“Hey everyone, I’m Roy Conli, producer of Disney’s next animated film. I have some exciting news to share, and it was important to me that YOU guys – the Disney fans – hear it first. I want to tell you about Walt Disney Animation Studio’s 2010 release, Tangled. It’s a really fresh, smart take on the Rapunzel story. In our film, the infamous bandit Flynn Rider meets his match in the girl with the 70 feet of magical golden hair. We’re having a lot of fun pairing Flynn, who’s seen it all, with Rapunzel, who’s been locked away in a tower for 18 years. I’m so proud of the crew working on this film – they’re doing a fantastic job creating an awesome story with great characters and a stunning world – and it’s all going to look amazing in 3D. All of us here at the studio are incredibly excited for you to see Tangled when it comes out in theaters this November.”

Directed by Byron Howard & Nathan Greno (the co-director and head of story on Bolt respectively), this new telling of the classic fairy tale, will transport audiences “to a stunning CG fantasy world complete with the iconic tower, an evil witch, a gallant hero and, of course, the mysterious girl with the long golden tresses. Expect adventure, heart, humor, and hair, lots of hair.” Our lead heroine is voiced by Mandy Moore while Chuck’s Zachary Levi will play a “dashing bandit” named Flynn Ryder who hits the road with the “rebellious, teenage hair apparent.” The voice cast is also rumored to include David Schwimmer, Matthew Gary Gubler, Kristin Chenoweth, Dan Fogler, and Grey DeLisle. is scheduled to hit theaters in Christmas 2010.

Previous director Glen Keane developed a new look for this computer animated film, which is said to look and feel more like a traditional hand-drawn Disney Classic, but in 3D. Apparently the film uses a non-photorealistic rendering technique which will make the surface look like it is painted but still containing depth and dimensions. The movie’s visual style is being based on French Rococo artist Jean-Honore Fragonard’s painting “The Swing”. You can definitely see the look they’re going for in the image above.

There are a couple more very small concept drawings over on the Animations message board, but you really can’t see much of anything. A short clip of test footage was shown at Siggraph 2005, where is gained a lot of attention. Earlier concept images had been previously posted online from when the project was titled Rapunzel Unbraided. But the project has since been completely revamped. You can see some concept art from the film here and here.

Tangled is scheduled to hit theaters in November 24th 2010.

Will she not dive into the proverbial pool? And the real one too?

Or will she be pushed by her uninvited father?

9 celebrities E! would like to see together

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Valentine's Day is creeping up, and love is definitely in the Hollywood air. Sure, a recent rash of couples plan on tying some knots soon, but we're losing interest in the big-name romances in town: Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron? Cute but boring. K.Stew and R.Pattz? Either date or don't, you guys. And with Brad and Angelina, um, totally happy, and Reese and Jake split, it's more clear than ever: We need us some new Hollywood hookups!

So we put together some fantasy couples, the Top 9 Celebrity Couples We'd Like to See—and left No. 10 open for you to decide!

1. Kristen Stewart & Michael Cera: They're both superawkward, but the difference is that Cera makes it funny and cute. Maybe if he showed some love Kristen's way, she'd be inspired to open up and—if we're lucky—flash a smile.

2. Emma Watson & Robert Pattinson: It's 2010, time to ditch the wizards and get with the vampires. The Harry Potter actress' newfound sex appeal would match perfectly with our fave bloodsucker. Plus, both those British accents together—steamy!

3. Lindsay Lohan & Tila Tequila: These two could be destructive together and enjoy it! Or better yet, choose to be each other's rock-soild support systems, and battle through their vices. Either way, this hookup has huge reality-TV potential.

4. Brad Pitt & Jennifer Aniston: Yes, they were married already, but...we want more! So let's try this again. Sequels are always bigger, right?

But after they split in 2008, the actress admitted she regretted revealing the intimate details of their romance to the press.

She tells Popeater.com, "Don't be a Chatty Cathy about (the relationship) - I think that's the secret".

"You have to have a dual existence... You have the acting side of it and the business life... and then you have your private life and your downtime. You have to make that divide, and make it clear to you."

The Fashion Industry on Gemma Ward's Weight Gain

The new Page Six Magazine contains roughly 2,500 words on Gemma Ward's fallout from the fashion industry. You see, something terrible happened to her: She gained weight. The piece is a disturbing chronicle of Ward's transition from teenager to adult and how the industry views it. Now 22, Ward was discovered in Perth, Australia, at the age of 14. She appeared on more than twenty Vogue covers, landing her first American Vogue cover at just 16. She was rail thin, and looked like a beautiful angelic alien creature to the fashion industry. But then in 2007, she walked the Chanel show in a denim bikini shocking one anonymous editor in particular:

"I almost didn't recognize her," says the editor, who confesses she was aghast. Compared to the other ultraskinny models, Ward looked as if she had gained 10 to 15 pounds, "big, almost bloated."

Frisbee inventor Fred Morrison, a former SLO County resident, dies at 90

MONROE, Utah — Walter Fredrick Morrison, the man credited with inventing the Frisbee, has died. He was 90.
State Rep. Kay McIff, an attorney who once represented Morrison in a royalties case, says Morrison died at his home Tuesday. McIff is from Richfield, Morrison’s original hometown.
Morrison also lived in San Luis Obispo County. After serving in World War II as a pilot, Morrison moved to the Baywood Park area of Los Osos, where he and his wife, Lu, first lived in a tent before building a house. While in Baywood, Morrison and Warren Franscioni, who owned a butane business in Morro Bay, designed the Whirlo-Way, a plastic flying disc. Around that time, in 1947, a UFO was rumored to have landed in Roswell, N.M, amping interest in all things saucer-like.

In 1955, after Francscioni re-enlisted in the Air Force and parted ways, Morrison changed the design of the disc and renamed it the "Pluto Platter" to capitalize on the UFO fervor.
Morrison sold the production and manufacturing rights to his Pluto Platter in 1957. The plastic flying disc was later renamed the “Frisbee,” with sales surpassing 200 million discs. It is now a staple at beaches and college campuses across the country and spawned sports like Frisbee golf and the team sport Ultimate.
Morrison co-wrote a book with Frisbee enthusiast and historian Phil Kennedy in 2001. Kennedy released a brief biography about Morrison on Thursday, wishing his late friend “smoooooth flights.”

Peter Gabriel: 'Thom Yorke won't respond to my cover of 'Street Spirit''

Peter Gabriel has said he is having trouble getting Radiohead's Thom Yorke to contribute to his 'song swap' scheme.

Gabriel has recorded an album of covers called 'Scratch My Back', featuring tracks from artists including David Bowie ('"Heroes"'), Arcade Fire ('My Body Is A Cage') and Radiohead ('Street Spirit (Fade Out)'), and he wants those acts featured to return the favour.

However, speaking in The Sun's Something For The Weekend today (February 12), Gabriel revealed that he has not been in contact with Yorke – who said he would rework his track 'Wallflower' – about the project recently.

"I still haven't had a response from Thom Yorke," he explained of the situation, before adding that he does still want the Radiohead frontman to be involved.

He revealed:
"He originally wrote to say he wanted to do a version of 'Wallflower', but I haven't heard what he thinks of my version of ['Street Spirit']."

Gabriel conceded that Yorke may not have been impressed with his version of the track.

"Not everyone likes it and I've no real idea whether he likes it or hates it. We have a little clue, though," he said.
"We gave out codes for the artists to listen to their songs on a stream and we could see how many times they've heard them. I think he's only streamed 'Street Spirit' once, which isn't a good sign, but who knows?"

LOL ilu Thom. Never change.
Also, Peter Gabriel's cover was absolute SHIT and it wasn't classy for him to tell this to The Sun.

Tom Felton on his girlfriend

'Harry Potter' Star Tom Felton Shares His Valentine's Day/Two-Year Anniversary Plans With Girlfriend Jade

Congratulations to Tom Felton and his girlfriend, Jade Olivia, who celebrated their two year anniversary Wednesday! When we got a chance to talk to Tom while he was shooting his new film "The Apparition" in Berlin, he admitted that the two years has passed very quickly.

"I can't believe how quickly this time has flown," he said with a laugh.

Having an anniversary and Valentine's Day in such close proximity to one another may seem like more of a problem than a gift, but with Tom filming far away from her for the next few weeks, it is working out in their benefit.
Tom said he had planned a romantic trip for the both of them to Vienna to celebrate the holiday of love, but has had to postpone it because he has been filming.

"I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there may be a chance that Jade might be able to come out for the weekend so we can spend Valentine's Day together and try to make the most of our two year anniversary," he said.

Tom kept quiet on what exactly he was thinking his plans would be (though we wouldn't ruin the surprise even if he told us!), but according to his description of his own romanticism, we're sure it will be something adorable and special.

Apparently Tom — unlike his character "Harry Potter" Draco Malfoy — is a sucker for romantic situations as much as the rest of us ... or maybe even more so.

"I'd love to say I play it cool, but I am a young Casanova, my friend," Tom admitted with a laugh. "I can't help myself! What can you say? When you're young and in love, what else can you do

And what exactly are his go-to gifts for Valentine's Day?

"I'm a big fan of the two dozen roses and the kind of cheesy card to go with it," he dished. "I can't help myself."

TV Ratings Thursday

CBS easily won Thursday with overall viewers and adults 18-49 with the two hour premiere of Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains and an hour of The Mentalist.

ABC was second on a night where Grey’s Anatomy saw its lowest adults 18-49 ratings ever for an original episode.

Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains premiered to a 4.5/12 rating/share with adults 18-49 between 8p-10pm, and 14.17 million viewers up around 2% versus the premiere of Survivor: Tocatins on February 12, 2009. At 9pm it bested Grey’s Anatomy with a 4.5 adults 18-49 rating versus Grey’s 4.3. For the 9pm hour Survivor had 14.11 million average viewers to Grey’s 12.67 million.

ABC and NBC tied for first with adults 18-34, somewhat of an impressive feat for NBC since it ran with an hour of Office repeats at 10pm. Earlier in the night Community and Parks & Recreation were on par with last week’s preliminary numbers with a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating.

To nobody’s surprise, including FOX’s, a new episode of Past Life at 9pm underperformed a rerun of Bones at 8pm. And to nobody’s surprise including ABC’s, The Deep End is still DOA at 8pm.

At 10pm The Mentalist easily beat Private Practice with Adults 18-49 and and total viewers, though Private Practice crushed The Mentalist with adults 18-34 (2.9 vs. 2.0) and destroyed it with women 18-34 (4.3 vs. 2.4).

CW’s Vampire Diaries was down a bit and saw lows with adults 18-49 and even with Women 18-34 it was on the low side (perhaps a series low with a 2.4 W18-34 rating).

Footface & Claire Littleton in March 2010 Vogue

Ask Robert Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin about shooting their new movie, Remember Me, and they instantly start talking about the throngs of Twilight fans and pushy paparazzi who swarmed around them as they filmed on the streets of New York.

"It was the most ridiculous experience," says Pattinson, flashing the sweet, shy smile those crowds hoped to see.

"You're trying to stay in character and you're trying to walk down the street, but all those people keep reminding you that you're not this character, you're -----"

"A show pony," cracks de Ravin, and the two burst into laughter.

Although this duo could hardly be more different--de Ravin, 28, boasts the easy physical confidence of a onetime ballerina, while the slouchy 23-year-old Pattinson is all self-effacing bemusement--their effortless rapport is the emotional anchor of Remember Me. Pattinson stars as Tyler Hawkins, an alienated and confused young man from a wealthy family--"It's not too Rebel Without a Cause," he jokes--who gets involved with Ally (de Ravin), the daughter of a cop who arrested him after a street fight. Where Twilight treats him as the object of desire, a role that requires as much posing as acting, this character-driven drama brings out his most emotionally complex performance so far. Whether Tyler's raging at his distant father, Charles (played by Pierce Brosnan), or charming Ally, he has a surprisingly deft comic touch; Pattinson is now the one doing the chasing.

"Rob and Emilie are gifted actors who really like each other," says Remember Me's director, Allen Coulter. "And the movie reveals them in a whole new way."

Which is precisely what both of them wanted--to show what they can do outside the juggernauts of Twilight and Lost.

Remember Me may well prove the big-screen breakthrough for de Ravin, an Australian still best known as the new mother, Claire, on Lost a role that was often undemanding. "I was always holding the baby in every scene," she says, "while everybody else was going off shooting people." Here, she throws herself into the conflicted passions of Ally, a young woman who, eager to escape an adoring but overprotective father, struggles to break through her own veneer of toughness.

For his part, RPattz (as he's known to his teen worshippers) is eager to start playing complicated human beings and not just hearthrobby vampires. Not that he doesn't relish being Edward Cullen or feel loyal to his fans, but he still hasn't figured out how to cope with being an international icon in an era when it seems impossible to escape the public eye.

"Everybody knows where everybody is," he says. "The Twitter thing is unbelievable. I went out a couple of times with Pierce. He's totally recognizable, and he makes no effort to tone it down. Some people were glancing over at us in the restaurant, and he just went over and introduced himself. And it does work. It dissipates all the attention."

So, does Pattinson use this trick?

"Me?" he says, shaking those famously tousled locks, "I just crawl under the table."

Despite his recent Polo accident, Prince Harry seemed to be having a great time fishing on his recent trip to the Caribbean.

Fortunately the 25-year-old prince managed to dive forwards and execute an athletic roll, breaking the impact of his fall on the rock-hard field in Barbados.

And it looks as though his relaxing boat trip around the islands did wonders for his dented spirit.

But the trip wasn't all play.

'Basterds' comes roaring into final stretch

Don't tell Harvey Weinstein it's a two-horse race and his movie isn't one of those ponies.

"We're going to win best picture. This is the movie people love and it's Quentin's time. We are going for it and we are gonna get it," Weinstein told me Tuesday night at carmaker Audi's celebration of the eight Oscar nominations for 'Inglourious Basterds." "Look, best director may be a question -- and you can quote me on that -- but we won the SAG award for best ensemble, actors are the biggest branch in the academy and they love the movie." Perhaps he's using "Crash" as an inspiration, which in 2004 was able to stop the tide of precursor awards for "Brokeback Mountain" by upsetting at SAG.

Book Of Eli Directors Want Akira Next

Rumors are circulating that the Hughes Brothers' next project could be a live-action remake of Akira. But they don't just want one film — the Warner Brothers picture is planned as a two-parter.

New York Magazine says Warners is in negotiations with the Albert and Allen Hughes to direct a live-action remake of Otomo's cult classic manga Akira. The script is from Iron Man and Children of Men writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. Which, last we heard, was being tweaked by the team last September, after Ruairi Robinson left the picture.

It sounds like WB has found two people ready to tackle this insane project — if only their Book of Eli hadn't been such a disappointment, we'd be more excited. That being said, we've got great faith in the screenplay based on the writers' previous work.

And yes, Leonardo DiCaprio is still slightly involved, but only because his company, Appian Way, is attached to the project. So keep your Leo for Kaneda campaigning to yourself — this part was made for Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

As far as the rumors that this Akira will be set in a Neo New York, instead of a Neo Tokyo, we have no clue. Right now let's just focus on the directors, and hope that if the Hughes brothers do get the project, they treat The Capsules with the respect they so deserve. And the news that WB wants the film to be a two-parter is definitely a step in the right direction.

But then, the scriptwriters did Iron Man and Children of Men before so I can approve that. If only they can get other actors.. Tetsuo and Kaneda are teenagers tyvm.

"Don’t Operate Too Fast, Be Respectful" - Matt Bomer

video link if it doesn't work

Matt Bomer may play a sexy con man on "White Collar" every single week, but when it comes to wooing the person he loves, Matt has a more traditional view of Valentine's Day.

In fact the sexy, blue eyed actor admits that if you want to do it right, you must listen to your sweetheart. Get to know the person. And, make sure that every detail you've planned out for that special someone is something they'd love to do. The bottom line: don't be a selfish lover. Got it? Not yet? Well, perhaps when Matt says it it will make more sense.

"How to woo someone on Valentine's Day? I think be very considerate. Listen and plan wisely," he advised to MTV News. "Don’t operate too fast. Be respectful. Be present and if you're taking someone out on a date hopefully you'd listened to them enough to know what they like and do something that they would enjoy."

Gee . . . we wonder why Russia, which has a Black population of less than .1 percent, is interested in the subject:Collapse )

Trailer for "The Shortest Musical You Will Never See Again" (featuring Lady Gaga)

Francesco Vezzoli’s black-tie-soiree-as-performance-art, “Ballets Russes Italian Style (The Shortest Musical You Will Never See Again),” featuring Lady Gaga and Prada-clad dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet, was undoubtedly one of the highlight’s on last year’s contemporary-art calendar. If you missed the spectacle of spectacles, created for MOCA’s 30th anniversary gala, the Swedish filmmaker Jonas Akerlund captures the extraordinary night in this exclusive new video, “Ballets Russes, Italian Style — Coming Soon.”

“It made sense, given Francesco’s taste for art , which has made use of fake movie posters and fake perfume campaigns,” says Akerlund of the video’s cryptic title. “I thought it would be really cool to create a trailer of sorts for something that has already happened and will never happen again.” Akerlund, who has also directed Gaga’s “Paparazzi” video and the coming one for “Telephone,” captures all of the front-of-house and backstage dramedy from the night, which culminated with everyone’s favorite media monster performing her new song, “Speechless,” on a rotating pink grand piano painted with blue butterflies by Damien Hirst. Enjoy.
