Brendan Fraser thinks 3-D is going to bring back people to theaters

Brendan Fraser is a huge fan of the hit movie Avatar.

The actor — who stars opposite Harrison Ford in the upcoming flick Extraordinary Measures – says James Cameron’s 3-D epic is the future of cinema.

"I’ve been in a few 3-D movies myself," Fraser told Parade magazine. "And being a wannabe geek and techno-nerd, I was blown away by the result. You’re right in the thick of it.

"And to get the effect you have to go to the theater, not stay at home and watch on an iPod or a TV screen. It really is like riding a roller coaster. And there’s no telling how far we can go after Avatar.

"3-D is it, after we survive the naysayers. When sound was added to motion pictures back in the ’20s with The Jazz Singer, they were like, ‘It’s a talkie. Who’s going to go to that?’ Then they brought in color and it was, ‘We like black and white. Why does it have to be in color?’ ‘Television? Who’s going to watch TV?’

"Well, now we watch so much TV that people stopped going to the theaters. I’m telling you, 3-D is going to bring people back."

'Primeval' No Longer Extinct?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Ending abruptly on a cliffhanger, the British sci-fi series Primeval looked like it was as dead as the dinosaurs because producer ITV was too strapped to pay for a fourth season of the visual-effects-intensive series.

But series creator Adrian Hodges managed to secure financing elsewhere, and international networks airing the show—including BBC America—are contributing the budget for a fourth season. (Possible spoilers ahead!) That means we get to learn the fate of the characters, who were last seen in the past.

"Obviously there's a question of, at the end of the last season, three major characters were stuck in the past," Hodges told us. "So a lot of the first two episodes is going to be about how some of them at least get back."

Stephen Fry : Voice of the London Olympics? Writing for Doctor Who?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

He's known more for his intellectual capacity and dry wit than his sporting prowess. But Stephen Fry is being lined up as the voice of the London Olympics.

The comedian and broadcaster is in talks with organisers to help boost the profile of the event. One suggestion is he could be an ' ambassador', featuring in adverts to encourage people to visit the 2012 Games. Another idea is to make him the 'official voice' of the event.

Fry confirmed: 'I have been asked to have a meeting with the Olympics people. I am a supporter of it and I am really behind it.'

Stephen Fry has expressed an interested in working with new Doctor Matt Smith.

The TV star, who won two gongs at last night's National Television Awards, also confessed that he was approached to pen an episode of Doctor Who for former star David Tennant.

"The window passed, and I never really got round to it," he told the BBC. "But I'm very happy to have had the experience of thinking about it."

Good Charlotte Completes New Album........And Then Scraps It

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

From the Good Charlotte blog :

We had a very strange End to 2009. We went in the studio for over 2 months recording a record we scrapped. We lost A DEAR DEAR Friend. I kind of lost my mind. For a moment. Such is life though right? What you do with these situations, thats where YOU decide what your gonna make of yourself right? Right...

So here we are. We decided we are the Luckiest Guys in the world to get to live our dreams like this. Getting to be creative everyday and make music...

When we got back from the last trip to Australia, we had pretty much finished recording the record. I went into the studio to hear some roughs and it just wasn't right. I couldn't figure it out. i was so lost. I love the songs, i love the lyrics, so what was the problem. i was just so bewildered. devastated actually. this had never happened. i felt crazy...

I told our manager to just PAUSE everything and i need time to think. i called all the boys immediately and called an emergency meeting. everyone sat down. and i just said "Guys, we gotta start over"

i was expecting everyone to freak on me and say "What?!" but Billy was the 1st to speak, and right away he said "I knew you were gonna say That, my gut is telling me the same thing" lets do it. Everyone agreed. While we were working with one of the most successful, biggest producers in the Business, all he seemed to focus on was "Commercial Success" of the record and all everyone seemed to talk about was the RADIO...

SO we are gonna keep working on this record and we are going to try and step up our communication, VIA this Blog.

tl;dr here. benji goes on and on and on

And a recent interview from MTV Iggy where she talks about her childhood, dressing up in tutus, her decision to pursue music after being in acting, wanting to write a song using different languages, and releasing a new album in 2010. She's lovely.

Thom Yorke, Seth MacFarlane, Adam Levine take part in Haiti fundraiser

Sometimes Twitter can cause an unnecessary panic.
Late Wednesday night, scattered reports of an exclusive Thom Yorke and Beck show started making their way online.
Details were scant, but it was pretty much a given that much of the universe was missing what would surely be one of the live music highlights of 2010.

But Radiohead obsessees and Beck geeks can breathe a sigh of relief.
Turns out the Radiohead frontman did indeed make another appearance at a velvet-roped nightspot -- Yorke has DJ-ed for the pretty people before -- but there was no Yorke & Beck pairing Wednesday. Yorke was on hand to DJ at a last-minute fundraiser for Haiti at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. A spokeswoman for the Roosevelt notes that the night raised $20,000 for relief efforts.

Radiohead producer
Nigel Godrich
also spent time at the turntable, and
members of Maroon 5 were there, or so we're told, and played a short set.
There's video evidence above, as at one point
"Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane joined Maroon 5 leader Adam Levine for a rendition of the standard "The Way You Look Tonight."
A similar event with Mark Ronson and Jus Ske at Manhattan's Thomson LES Hotel raised $35,000.

Source + Video
From the fan reports I've read, the event was supposedly pretty epic...the Thom part of it, that is. Maroon 5's performance was, apparently, a little awkward.

Michael Jackson Estate Administrators Seeking More Profits

The administrators of Michael Jackson's estate are reportedly requesting 10 percent of profits that they are able to generate from the late King of Pop's work.

The Associated Press reports that John Branca and John McClain filed a document Friday asking for compensation that would not include profits from the star's 'This Is It' documentary and interest in the Sony/ATV music catalog.

The administrators also noted in their motion that other comparable estate administrators have received profits ranging from 15 to 25 percent, says the AP.

On Thursday, Branca and McClain filed legal documents opposing Joe Jackson's bid for an allowance from the King of Pop's estate.

Ben Whishaw interview in "Out"

Hunched over a table in the bar of London’s Royal Court Theatre, Ben Whishaw looks like a small woodland animal. As if scanning for predators, his eager eyes dart around the room surveying the crowd as he breaks a banana into pieces and pops it into his mouth. He fidgets and squirms in his seat as if flea-infested, his oversize sweater almost drowning his wiry frame in wool. He is not typical leading-man material.

Yet, however improbable, that is exactly what Whishaw has become, thanks to a series of finely wrought performances that began at the youthful age of 23 when he played theater’s ultimate prize, Hamlet, in a production by the legendary theater director Trevor Nunn. He confirmed his promise in a run of movie roles, including the scent-obsessed serial killer Grenouille in Tom Tykwer’s adaptation of the cult novel Perfume, grizzly rocker Keith Richards in Stoned, and Bob Dylan (along with Cate Blanchett and Heath Ledger) in Todd Haynes’s I’m Not There. After seeing his performance in the 2008 remake of Brideshead Revisited, British critic David Thomson hailed him as “one of Britain’s great actors,” and his recent turn as the poet John Keats, in Jane Campion’s much-praised Bright Star, put critics in a swoon on both sides of the Atlantic.

blind item! gay boy roommates sexin it up~

This is the story of three young actors living together in Hollywood. Actor A is a very popular, hot, young actor and the star of a popular franchise. With his parent’s encouragement, Actor B, a fledgling actor, moved into Actor A’s home as a roommate. Actor A worked his contacts behind the scenes to successfully get Actor B a gig in the same franchise. They began sleeping together. Then Actor C, also a struggling Hollywood actor, also moved in. Actor A also got Actor C a gig in the movie in which he was starring, and they began sleeping with each other. Eventually, Actor C got a regular gig on a popular tweener show.

So Actor A helped both his roomies break into showbiz, gave them a place to live, and dated both of them. Busy guy, complicated personal life, yet he was still able to keep his head in the game, crank out multiple projects, maintain a busy travel schedule, and fool the general public with frequent appearances with his faux girlfriend, another high profile young star.

However, it all started falling apart when Actor A came home early from a trip to find Actor B and Actor C in a compromising position …with each other. Actor A was absolutely furious. So much so that he is now looking to move into a new home with his faux girlfriend. Meanwhile, the parents and PR folks of Actor B and Actor C are scrambling to pretend that everyone gets along and will continue to work together, everyone is straight, and that the only sexual relationship is the one between Actor A and the Actress. Whatever.

When did Conan O’Brien become Norma Rae? For those of you who don’t remember this 1978 film, Norma Rae stars Sally Field as a beleaguered factory worker who risks her job and everything she’s worked for in order to correct injustices in the workplace. She is everywoman, standing up to The Man to do what’s right. Not just for her, but for the millions just like her all over the country. Those oppressed masses just trying to put food on the table, the ones without health care, the ones struggling to make ends meet. The ones who just want a fair shake. Somebody had to have the courage to take on the Big Baddies running the show. In 1978, that somebody was Norma Rae. In 2010, it’s Conan O’Brien?

Simon Cowell offers RPattz record deal

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

TWILIGHT fans are such an excitable bunch I'm wary of even letting this out the bag for fear of the hysteria it will unleash. But here we go... ROBERT PATTINSON has been approached by SIMON COWELL to sign a major record deal.

The young actor has been told he can basically write his own cheque.

To make things even sweeter for Robert, other record companies have got wind of the offer and a bidding war has broken out. Robert, who plays vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight films, is a keen musician who plays piano and guitar. The star has even contributed songs to the Twilight soundtracks. His pipes are pretty good too and record bosses reckon his singing voice could turn out to be a big money-spinner.

A source said: "Robert is reluctant to be turned into a pop star - and takes his music very seriously.

"He is a bit wary of signing up with Cowell who is, of course, associated with X Factor and pop."

I also envisage a big problem if Robert ever wishes to perform live. His teenage fans are so unhinged the screaming would be worse than The Beatles at Shea Stadium. No wonder Simon wants to get his teeth into him...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I doubt his music's very commercial, and he probably wouldn't want to change it to be a pop product, so he wouldn't be Cowell's type of signee. But I liked the story and the Simon gif, plus it gives Gossip Cop something else to get all hysterical about tomorrow morning.

Peter Andre's upcoming tour will feature a tribute to Michael Jackson.

The 'Mysterious Girl' singer is preparing to go on the road next month and although he doesn't want to give away too many secrets, revealed he is hard at work with the late singer's former choreographer planning a special sequence.

He said: "Rehearsals have started for my tour which starts next month. I don't want to give too much away, but there will be a section of my show dedicated to Michael Jackson.

"I'm working with a choreographer who did some of the late singer's videos, and Britney Spears' last tour, so I'm in capable hands. Now I just need to build up my stamina."

"There are a few options, one being a live concert and another being a one-off TV special."

‘Hope For Haiti Now’ Backstage Interview

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
At precisely 10:30 p.m. in London — two and a half hours before the start of Friday night’s “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon — Rihanna was finally in the same room as Jay-Z, Bono and The Edge, her three collaborators on “Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour),” the song they had recorded just three days earlier in studios all around the world.

The four, backed by Jay’s cracking live band and a full gospel choir, were about to perform the song together for the first time, in front of a studio of television producers and, really, the entire world. But not a single one of them was nervous. Rather, they saw it as a tremendous opportunity — not just to help the victims of last week’s devastating earthquake, but to remind them that they will never be left stranded, not even after the TV cameras leave and the focus of the globe shifts elsewhere.

“I got the call three days ago to be a part of this. Bono and Jay-Z called me up, they wanted me to be a part of it, and, of course, anything that can help Haiti, I want to be a part of,” Rihanna told MTV News on Friday night. “This song is really important. Lyrically, Jay-Z gets really, really deep in his verses, more than I’ve ever heard him get. He gets really real. I know a couple of people he’s singing about. We have mutual friends that suffered loss, they lost their family, they lost friends, and it really hits home. So this is really a song for Haiti, letting them know we are not going to leave you stranded; we are going to do every last thing to help you. You are not alone.”

Nicole Kidman Hires Angelina Jolie's Manager

Nicole Kidman Hires Angelina's Manager

EXCLUSIVE: There can be no doubt in anybody's mind that Nicole Kidman's career is in deep, deep trouble. That's because, even though she's talented and used to make $16M-$17M for a lead role in a major studio movie, she's become poison at the box office -- the female equivalent of Sean Penn (but with botox...). So it's very understandable that she now feels the need for more career guidance. I've learned that Nicole has made a major change in her representation: she's become a client of Angeline Jolie's manager Guyer Kosinski of Media Talent Group.

Kidman, who just in July shook up her PR representation by firing her publicist of 15 years PMK/HBH's Catherine Olim, hasn't had a manager since her early days as an actress. She was with Mark Epstein (quite the character) until her career really took off and she went solely with CAA. Kidman is a longtime CAA client, first with Rick Nicita, then with Kevin Huvane. But is history about to repeat itself?

Because what's interesting here is that Kosinski took Angelina away from CAA. Before Jolie went to CAA in March 2005, she was represented by just the manager. When the pair decided she needed an agent, she met with every major tenpercentery in town, then chose CAA. But then Kosinski yanked her from the agency in April 2006 after she'd spent only 13 months there. Kosinski is known to be very controlling, very secretive, very involved with his clients' lives (and hates talking to the media). I'm really interested to see what happens next...

The 'Heroes' star chats about his new genre-busting battle royal Web series: Ultradome

When he's not saving the world as Peter Petrelli on NBC's "Heroes," actor Milo Ventimiglia is gearing up for a whole new kind of battle, a battle that would pit comic book geek against film nerd. This is a battle so fierce and contentious that there's only one way to settle it: the "Ultradome."

"Ultradome" is a new Web series from the actor's Divide Pictures that sets the stage for eternal arguments to be settled, like: Who would win in a battle between Stormtroppers from "Star Wars" and the Agents from "The Matrix"? How Who's the stronger superhero, Superman or the Hulk? These pop culture mash-ups will be settled once and for all in the "Ultradome." A Girl for the Geeks to Love?

HOLLYWOOD — “I want to be the poster girl for engineers and computer nerds,” says actress Alessandra Torresani, and she’s off to a good start. That’s her with the apple in the ubiquitous billboard (pictured below) for new science fiction series Caprica, which debuts Friday at 9 p.m. on Syfy.

In the compelling Battlestar Galactica prequel, set on the planet Caprica 58 years before BSG’s journey begins, Torresani plays the feisty, 16-year-old daughter of billionaire computer genius Daniel Graystone, maker of the world’s first Cylon.

Following Battestar Galactica’s groundbreaking achievements, Caprica is trafficking in high expectations. Happily, the show lives up to the hype.

Assembling a sturdy cast of veteran actors yoked to a complex storyline that mixes soap opera-style family dysfunction with heady excursions into technology and religion, Caprica co-creator Ronald D. Moore and his team hurl a wild card into the mix with the casting of Torresani, whose memories are downloaded into her father’s Cylon prototype in the show’s pilot episode. Torresani’s gutsy presence kicks the show into intense gear while introducing a fresh talent ready for fanboy consumption.

Conan's Last Show Turns into Ratings Gold for The Tonight Show

The Ratings for Conan's Last Show Were the Highest He Has Had as a Host

The Tonight Show ratings for Conan O'Brien on Friday night earned a 7.0. It was a remarkable ratings showing for Conan O'Brien and the perfect way to end his run as host of the show. During an episode where Conan O'Brien shared how happy he was to have worked at Conan's Last Show Turns into Ratings Gold for The Tonight ShowNBC for so many years, viewers tuned in to see O'Brien go out with a lot of class and humility. The ratings win is also something to hang on to as O'Brien heads into the sunset, most likely gearing up to work for a different network in the fall of 2010. For now though, this was the last time that we will see O'Brien as a host on television at least until September.

Conan's final show ratings are just an estimate until the official ratings come out on January 28th, and sit at a 7.0 rating and 16 share for his last hour on television. With DVR recordings still to be counted, as well as several metered markets still not released, the chance exists that his numbers could even go up by the time they are made official. In comparison, The Late Show with David Letterman brought in a rating of 2.5 for a 5 share, with ABC's Nightline earning a 2.8 rating and 6 share. Letterman hadn't seen third place in the time slot for quite some time, but on Conan's final night he probably didn't mind as much as if it had been Jay Leno.

The great ratings for Conan also led to a successful night for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, which earned a 3.3 rating and 10 share for his time slot. That beat out the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson by nearly double. Those who kept with NBC after Conan's final show got to see Jimmy Fallon pay tribute to Conan O'Brien and his show in New York in a very funny moment. Starting in the hallway of his studio, he showed how close the old Conan O'Brien studio was, and took that stage with his house band (The Roots) to perform a few bars from the Boyz II Men song "It's So Hard to Say Good Bye", before pouring some whiskey on the ground in honor of Conan. It was quite a great moment perpetrated by Fallon.

Is the SAG ensemble award really an Oscar prophet?

The ensemble prize at the Screen Actors Guild Awards has a widespread reputation for foretelling what film will win best picture at the Oscars. The logic goes like this: Since actors comprise the largest branch within the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (1,300 out of 5,800 members), the thespians within the guild are a good gauge of how all actors think. And since actors weigh films according to collective dramatic impact, the SAG ensemble award is a rough equivalent to the Oscars' best picture prize.

Meet Taylor Momsen, ultimate teen icon
With her punk look and scornful attitude, the Gossip Girl star has the life all teen girls want. Like, whatever
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Taylor Momsen models New Look's new collection.

There is a look out there right now that young teenage girls are embracing in their hordes — and it’s got nothing to do with pretty. So stop thinking pink and start thinking punk. Because for teens in the Teenies, nothing carries quite so much cachet as the latest version of the cool-girl grunge look: luxe goth, if you like.

The poster girl for this is Taylor Momsen. She may not be able to legally drink, but the 16-year-old is already a lead in one of the most popular television series of the moment (as Jenny Humphrey, in Gossip Girl); has a modeling contract with IMG (here she is the latest face of the high-street chain New Look); and is lead singer and songwriter in the band the Pretty Reckless. All of which, together with her platinum locks, endless skinny legs, “whateva” attitude, and a look she describes as “grunge meets Chanel”, have made her the girl all teenagers want to be and their mothers dread.

“To be honest,” she says, “I don’t f***ing care. I didn’t get into this to be a role model. So I'm sorry if I’m influencing your kids in a way that you don’t like, but I can’t be responsible for their actions. I don’t care.”

ONTD's true love goes to the Pole, needs our help!

Producers of Alexander Skarsgard's indie film, Beyond the Pole, are asking for fans' help. They're shopping for a distributor for the comedy and, as they said on their FaceBook fan page, they need more fans: "A distrib just told me we're too small and I said we'd have 10,000 fans next time he looked ( I know - it slipped out!) Help!!"

Here's the film's summary
"Brian and Mark are setting out on the first Carbon Neutral, Vegetarian, and Organic expedition ever to attempt the North Pole. As a world first they have high hopes of getting into the Guinness Book of Records and, if all goes well, of saving the planet from Global Warming. Unfortunately they have never done anything like this before. And they hadn’t reckoned on the polar bears, the competitive gay Norwegians, or on Mark’s rapidly loosening grip on reality."

And here's the trailer:

LCD Soundsystem announces tour dates

basically we're announcing a tour. i can’t imagine this comes as a shock to everyone, since we’re making a record, which is well documented, and i’ve talked pretty openly about going on tour, but we’re going on tour. there’s a button at the top of our website home page that says “gigs” that you can click on, as well ...as a section to the left called “standing in front of people doing things loudly”. they’re the same thing, really. that has gig information. before you get mad and ask why there’s no gig in your town or house, please realize (realise, for you uk people) that we’re going on tour for a long time, in a lot of places, around the planet, for longer in support of this one record than the beatles ever toured in total, and we’ll likely be close to you at some point. i hope that clears some of that up? we’re excited, and want this to be the best tour ever. hope we see some of you out.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Looking as if she’s definitely had her fair share of fun in the sun, Donatella Versace was spotted relaxing on the beach in St Barts on Saturday (January 23).

The fashion mogul plopped into a shoreside lounge chair, applying tanning oil to her already darkened and wrinkled chest.

Meanwhile, Donatella’s Gianni Versace SpA is gearing up to introduce its first mobile phone coming up this May.

“Before, brands couldn’t imagine that a luxury telephone was possible,” said ModeLabs Chief Executive Stéphane Bohbot. “Now, limited distribution and customized design have created a new interest for brands in telephones."

Kristen Stewart: Pole Dancing Hurts!

Welcome to the Rileys
was a real pain for Kristen Stewart—literally.

In the much buzzed about indie flick, she plays a 16-year-old stripper who is taken in by a married man, played by
James Gandolfini...

"I did some pole dancing," Stewart told me Saturday at the movie's premiere at the
Sundance Film Festival. "I got bruises all over my legs. I tore myself up doing it. It sucked."

Oddly enough, she kinda enjoyed it. "The more I saw it, the more I wanted it," Stewart said. "It was like a weird self-hating kind of thing
."

Yikes!

Director Jake Scott said it was pretty much a closed set when Stewart had to do her dancing scenes.

"She was terrified," Scott said. "The strip club we shot in was really a club, and it really was that dirty and really that tough. But she killed it."

Scott also hooked Stewart up with a professional stripper. "She's like one of the best in the business," he said. "So she was really reliable and didn't do drugs or anything like that, but she was able to introduce Kristen to girls that were. She was able to put her in that world."

But if you're expecting Showgirls moves from Stewart, you can forget about it. "This is not about a stripper," Scott said. "It's about a damaged child."

Stewart said, "The cool thing about my character is she is not sultry and she is not sexy."

Leonardo DiCaprio has donated $1 million to relief efforts in Haiti, earning the admiration of President Clinton, who said in a statement, "I am grateful for the generous gift Leonardo DiCaprio and his Foundation have made in support of our Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. Combined with the outpouring of donations from Americans and citizens around the world of all means, this support will go a long way to help save more lives, reach more people with emergency assistance, and help the Haitian people build their nation back stronger and more secure than it was before the earthquake."

DiCaprio's donation, made through the Leonardo DiCaprio Fund, was intended for both immediate relief efforts and long-term redevelopment of the earthquake-damaged country, according to his reps.

The gesture caught the attention of President George W. Bush as well. "I salute Leonardo DiCaprio for his extraordinary generosity," he said. "This donation sends a clear message to the people of Haiti that America's commitment to helping rebuild their country is strong. I thank Leo for setting a wonderful example for all Americans of helping a neighbor in need."

The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation was created in 1998 to raise awareness of environmental issues by participating with nonprofit organizations and through the website www.leonardodicaprio.org.

Lucy Lawless talks bad behavior, sex scenes with slaves, and picking up Xena's sword again

New interview with Lucy Lawless at Out.com. She's chatting about her new role on Spartacus. Pulled out some of the best quotes for the TL;DR crowd and there's a video too:

On gayness in the ancient world:
You know the nice thing about Spartacus is that they have a gladiator who was gay and manly and he has one of the few true love relationships [on the show] with a young man who also is in the same ludus -- that’s a gladiator training camp. And it causes no problems for them whatsoever -- the fact that they’re identified that way. It’s really nice to see gay men being portrayed as something other than cardigan-wearing hand-flappers -- not that there’s anything wrong with that…

On doing nude scenes on the show:
In the abstract it doesn’t bother me. It was important in the scene. Certainly where I’m involved there’s nothing gratuitous about any of it. But I will confess that doing it for real was pretty confronting. I felt very inhibited, but I didn’t have any choice in the matter and you want it to get over and done with quickly. But I was stressed. And I went straight home to bed afterward. Mostly I was stressed because there’s all these women playing slaves hanging around like a bad smell following you everywhere. You’re trying to do this intimate scene with a trusted colleague and these women are just standing there. They’re from Nigeria and Cameroon and places like this, and I had been talking with them. And I was just so freaked out thinking, What are these women thinking? They must be thinking, “Bitch! In my country you would be stoned for that. Just for acting that with somebody who’s not even your husband.” Or just for -- whatever. Anyway, we all became great friends and they seem to have forgiven me.

On reprising her role as Xena:
Yes. I love that character. I would do it if it was a movie. I doubt I would do it as a TV series. I can’t see how you would make it fresh. And by the time somebody does come up with that I’m just going to be too old. And I’m really sad about that. I feel like it’s a completely wasted franchise. Rob really wanted to get that going. In fact they did early on and I was just too tired and thought I was bullet proof and would be in demand forever. And that killed it.

Radiohead's Ed O'Brien 'Piracy isn't killing music'

Radiohead's Ed O'Brien has hit out at claims that piracy is killing the music industry.

Expressing his thoughts on the situation, the guitarist explained that whilst pirates might not purchase music, they are still putting money into the industry.

"I have a problem when people in the industry say 'it's killing the industry, it's the thing that's ripping us apart'," O'Brien said in an interview on Midem. "I don't actually believe it is... [Pirates] might not buy an album, but they're spending their money buying concert tickets, a t-shirt, whatever."

In the interview, O'Brien also added what solutions the industry could be making to remedy the problem.

"It's an analogue business model in a digital era," he explained.
"The business model has to change. You've got to license out more music - have more Spotifys, more websites selling more music. You've got to make it slightly cheaper to get music in order to compete with the peer-to-peers."

He added:
"I find it staggering that the industry seems to be really dragging its heels on this - this is stuff that you could do in one week. Move quicker!"

Meanwhile, Radiohead have announced that they will play a one-off gig for Oxfam's Haiti earthquake emergency response appeal this weekend (January 24).

Meet the Millionaire Matchmaker baby

When Destin Pfaff's now-fiancée, Rachel Federoff, asked if she could work with Destin at Patti Stanger's Millionaire's Club, the idea took some getting used to. But now Destin might have to come to terms with another family member joining the matchmaking team. The couple's 5-month-old son, Sin Halo Jude, seems fated for camera time on The Millionaire Matchmaker. "Every time the baby sees Patti, he shrieks like a banshee," Destin tells Life & Style. "She's great with him. Sin makes her want a baby."

Rachel, 32, and Destin, 35, are just ecstatic that their baby boy is finally healthy. Sin was delivered via emergency cesarean section after the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and stopped his fragile heart. He also later suffered from digestive problems. "It was scary and hard, but we were lucky," says Destin. "Now he's tough as nails -- beautiful and perfect!" As for his unusual name, "My parents hate the name Sin Halo," Rachel tells Life & Style. "But it's the yin and the yang -- everybody has a little good and bad in them."

Real Housewife Tamra: 'I never cheated on my husband'

When Tamra Barney's husband, Simon, filed for divorce on Jan. 7, no one was more surprised than the Real Housewives of Orange County star herself. But that wasn't the harshest blow: In the divorce papers, Simon accused his wife of 11 years of committing "acts of disloyalty and infidelity." A saddened Tamra sat down with Life & Style's on Jan. 14 to share her side of the story -- and set the record straight about whether she cheated -- in her first print interview since news of the split broke.

"I have never been unfaithful," Tamra tells Life & Style. Does she have any idea whom Simon thinks she may have cheated with? "A couple of years ago, a boyfriend I dated for five or six years before meeting Simon called me," Tamra says. "We just talked," she stresses. But Simon looked through her call log and went ballistic after finding the ex's name. "That happened two or three years ago," she says. "But I think it marked the beginning of the demise of our marriage."

Since then, viewers have watched as the marriage has slowly unraveled. Tamra's biggest decision, however, happened off-camera. "We got into a huge argument on New Year's Eve," she explains. "We were out at a club and started fighting, and I just hit a wall. I couldn't do it anymore. I needed to make a change." A few days later, she moved into a two-bedroom apartment with the couple's three children. Even then, Tamra still held out hope she and Simon might reconcile. "I thought we were having a trial separation," she tells Life & Style. "I thought he agreed with me -- then I get hit with divorce papers."

The real Best of Both Worlds is coming...

Nas and Damian Marley collabo album ready for 4/20 as the first two tracks leak.....

Yesterday and today, the first two tracks from the much delayed and anticipated Distant Relatives album leaked. Although snippets and live performances of both tracks have been heard during last summer's Rock the Bells, this is the first CDQ leaks. This pretty much signifies that the album will be released after touring the project and several panels with National Geographic last year expaining how the album's profits will go to assisting and building schools and hospitals in areas within the African continent.  Dont forget a possible documentary to boot.
Yesterday it was also announced that the album has a set release date of April 20th (4/20...of course they would).

The confirmation of these tracks, also could mean that the tracklist that was floating around the web last fall might be real. Which means you can expect appearances from Stevie Wonder, The Marley Brothers (Ziggy, Stephen), Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, Joss Stone and K'naan. Plus production from Stephen Marley and 9th Wonder. It seems like the album is gonna be pretty eclectic. Not  just Hip-Hop, Not just Reggae. Certainly these two tracks attest to that.

Update: Word from Damian Marley & Nas’ camp is that Strong Will Continue , the single that leaked yesterday will not be on the Distant Relatives album. More specifically, the version you are hearing, will not be on the album. Instead, there is an alternate mix.

“We are extremely happy with the response that we have been receiving from the leaked version of Strong Will Continue, said Dan Dalton of Red Light Management, Damian Marley's manager.  “While it is not the initial single we planned to release these things happen. The first track we really want everyone to sink their teeth into is 'As We Enter.' This is it, the ball rolling, we are really excited about the project.”

Dan also confirmed that the album will be mastered next week and will be ready to go to pressing plants shortly after that.

Im cool with it. I know its gonna get a mix reaction cause of the non- pure Hip hop element. But new Nas music is a good thing. This record + the Chef/Meth/Rae Wu album + Cam'ron's UN album + Jay Electronica/Just Blaze's Act II (Also with a lot of new Nas on it) = A pretty dope 1st quarter for 2010.

The Worst Action Heroines Ever, Ever

A good action hero is hard to find these days.  Unless they come from a comic book, we just don’t have the brawny, no-nonsense men that populated 1970s and 1980s cinema. But if you think they’re scarce, try finding a good action heroine.   They exist (Ripley, Beatrix Kiddo, Lara Croft, Lorna Cole) but they’re few and far between, and vastly outnumbered by the bad ones.  Many writers and directors seem uncertain as to how to stick a gun (or a sword, or a superpower ….) in a girl’s hand, and make her consistent and believable.  To help aspiring moviemakers know what not to do, I’ve compiled the action heroines that I find to be the worst cinema has to offer.

They range from aspiring policewomen to futuristic terrorists – and to be fair, they’re also an example of how not to write any character, male or female.  But they’re more offensive because they’re obvious attempts to be feminist and inclusive. If you can’t give a heroine the snappy lines and charisma that belongs on a t-shirt, than don’t bother.  These sad characters are proof.

1.    Elektra

How do you take one of Marvel’s most lethal heroines (rumor has it her body count exceeds Wolverine’s and the Punisher’s) and ruin her? I don’t know, but they managed it in not one, but two movies.   The cold-blooded assassin was nowhere to be found.  In her place was someone milquetoast and morose, though Jennifer Garner could certainly swing a pair of sais.  But she’s the living example of miscasting because as lovely and lean as she is, she just looks  like a kindergarten teacher out for vengeance.
