All-star 'We Are The World' remake planned

Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie are reportedly recruiting an all-star lineup to re-record 'We Are The World' to celebrate the song's 25th anniversary.

The duo have allegedly urged stars to stay in Los Angeles an extra night after the Grammy Awards this weekend to celebrate a quarter-century since Ken Kragen, Richie and Michael Jackson organised the original 'We Are the World' with Jones.

According to Billboard, artists including Usher, Natalie Cole and John Legend have been invited to take part in the event, which will then be turned into a video and single as in 1985.

Proceeds are expected to be donated to the Haiti earthquake disaster appeal. In 1985, 'We Are The World' profits were donated to African famine relief.

It's for a good cause, so I suppose I am for it to some extent...but tbh it's just not 'We Are the World' without Michael.

Lady Gaga’s Producer Has Unreleased Michael Jackson Songs

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Lenny Kravitz isn’t the only one with half-finished Michael Jackson songs lying around the house: Producer RedOne (Lady Gaga, Usher) says he’s got enough material from Las Vegas recording sessions with MJ in 2008 and 2009 to make up a full new album. There are no imminent plans for the material or anything, but until we hear otherwise, RedOne now has pole position in the race for first posthumous Jackson release. And before you get all skeptical over the potential of this or any other half-baked posthumous projects, be assured that, according to RedOne, the music is "good, really good."

Tony Stonem in VMan magazine

Nicholas Hoult, star of A Single Man, is featured in Issue #17 of VMan magazine, on newsstands Thursday, January 28.

Here’s what the 20-year-old British actor had to share:

On his early career aspirations: “When I was little, I wanted to be a dolphin. I only changed when I realized that wasn’t an option.”

On what draws him to acting: “What I like about this job is that you never peak. There are always new challenges. Getting older, I realize how little I know.”

On the awkwardness of nude scenes: “When you’re doing it, it’s fine because you’re in character. The awkward bit is always when they say cut.”

Momoa Chosen 'Conan' Barbarian

EXCLUSIVE: Today's the day for all things Conan to be resolved. First, there was Conan the late night host getting a whopping check to leave. Now, Conan the Barbarian has been crowned. I hear that Millennium Films, Lionsgate, and rights holder Paradox Entertainment have approved Jason Momoa to star in Conan, the rebirth of the Robert E. Howard-created series. The brawny star of Stargate Atlantis who also stars in HBO's Game of Thrones, Momoa got the nod over Kellan Lutz, the Twilight guy. I told you that the search for Conan had come down to the duo. Sources said that director Marcus Nispel was sold on Momoa, and won over the filmmakers by shooting a few trial scenes that allowed Momoa to wield a sword and behave very Schwarzenegger-like. This keeps the film on course for a March 15 production start in Bulgaria, and it closes a long ordeal in bringing the saga back to the screen. Paradox originally set up the film with Warner Bros in 2002, and then moved it over to Millenium in 2007.

Is there any hope of this being good? He's one of the few things I still enjoyed about Stargate Atlantis there in the end so I want him to have a non-crappy career.

Brittany Murphy's Husband and Mother on Today Show...

For some reason I can't get the video to embed correctly so click the picture or click here to be taken to the video.

For those who are too lazy to watch:
  • Brittany wasn't taking any medications regularly for depression/mental illness or anorexia. She took two different medications during her period each month.
  • Most of the medications they found in the house belonged to her husband. He suffers from seizures and heart issues apparently.
  • The cocaine use rumor is completely false. She was diagnosed with a heart murmur when she was young and so drugs terrified her.
  • She never had an eating disorder. Apparently she would go to the Chateau Marmont and order four plates of food and eat them all. idk about you guys but that sounds like a binge to me...
  • She was under stress in her career recently. Apparently Warner Bros. wanted her to reprise the roll of Gloria in Happy Feet 2 but then rumors surfaced that she was fired from her latest movie and they revoked the offer. Her husband says that she was never fired from the other movie..it was a mutual split.

I'm really interested for her toxicology reports to come back. I hope for her mother's sake that whatever caused her death didn't involve drugs. And I know that most of you hate her husband and blame him in some way for her death but I don't think that's fair until the reports come back.

That's a new definition to the phrase "Big Brother"

18 months after he was evicted from the "BB" house, Steven Daigle was so comfortable in front of the cameras, he decided to sign on to a man-on-man-on-man sex tape with a company called C1R.com.

We're told Daigle was approached with the idea by porn director Chi Chi LaRue -- who originally met Daigle at a "Big Brother" wrap party.

Daigle tells us, "I didn't expect my life to take this path, but when I was presented with the opportunity, I dove in head first... literally."

As for the footage, we're told most of the film is already in the can.

Leno to headline White House correspondents' dinner

Leno to headline White House correspondents' dinner

Comedian Jay Leno will headline the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner in May, the group said Friday.

Leno agreed earlier this month to appear at the event, before NBC announced his return to hosting "The Tonight Show," the group said. The network's move was prompted by affiliates protesting the poor ratings of Leno's prime-time show.

The comedian will share the stage with President Obama at the correspondents' dinner at the Washington Hilton. By tradition, presidents fire jokes at the news corps, political opponents and even themselves at the event, where politicians, journalists and celebrities rub elbows.

Leno headlined the 2004, 2000 and 1987 dinners during the administrations of both parties.

Ticket sales to the dinner help fund college scholarships for aspiring journalists. More than $130,000 in scholarships, as well as journalism prizes, will be awarded at the event.

Other hosts have included Wanda Sykes, Craig Ferguson, Stephen Colbert, Drew Carey, Ray Romano, Norm Macdonald, Al Franken, Sinbad, Yakov Smirnoff and Conan O'Brien.

Remember that photo shoot Vadge did for W Magazine? The one where she first met Baby Jesus and lured him into her manger? Well, this is a raw outtake from the shoot. Now you know why Vadge owns major stock in Photoshop, because without it she looks like she lives in a gingerbread house and tricks small children into coming inside so she can eat them. Instead of throwing her in the oven, we want to throw ourselves in.

But just splash some holy water at her and direct your eyes towards Jesus' penis. My abuelita is going to slap with a chankla in the mouth for that last part.

After the jump is Baby Jesus completely nekkid from the neck down (because he has no head). Jesus' dick is not something that'll cause you drop to your knees and make the sign of the cross, but it'll do.

Kanye West Is NOT Barred From Haiti Telethon

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
While Kanye West isn’t set to appear on Friday’s “Hope For Haiti” telethon, the outspoken rapper hasn’t been barred from the show, despite online rumors.

“Not true,” a highly reputable source told Access Hollywood, explaining that Kanye had simply not necessarily come forward to join the broadcast. “[The] telethon organizers took the first people to come to us… on the phone bank and in the singers and presenters.”

A rep for MTV told Access that Kanye was, in fact, invited.

”[It’s] completely untrue — he was absolutely invited,”
the rep said.

And a source close to Kanye told Access that the star was approached, but is unable to participate.

“The report is absolutely false. MTV talent executives involved with booking the telethon contacted Kanye’s management and label about having him perform,” the source told Access. “Unfortunately, he is unavailable and regrettably unable to participate.”

Kanye’s last telethon appearance, when he appeared on NBC to raise funds for Hurricane Katrina relief in 2005, found the rapper standing next to a dumb-founded Mike Myers while making the infamous remark, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.” The hip-hop star has stayed out of the public eye since his latest televised disruption — interrupting Taylor Swift’s Best Female Video acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards last fall.

First stops for Glee summer tour announced

As previously reported, GLEE returns to FOX on April 13 at 9pm on Tuesdays, and while the show will be off the air for the summer, the GLEE cast is going live on tour by June.  Today, the first tour cities have been revealed! According to gleefan.com, "The cities that have been 100% confirmed are: Orlando, New York, LA, Dallas, Denver, Minneapolis, and Portland."

According to the site, Matthew Morrison will most likely not be joining the crew on tour, as it is expected that he will begin work on his solo album.  Tickmaster and Live Nation will be the tour sponsors.  Tickets are allegedly to be between $30 and $50, though, of course, that could change based on demand.

Recent winner of the People's Choice Award for Best New Comedy and Golden Globe winner for Best Television Series Comedy or Musical, GLEE, the new musical comedy series, follows an optimistic teacher who - against all odds and a malicious cheerleading coach - attempts to save McKinley High's Glee Club from obscurity while helping a group of aspiring underdogs realize their true star potential.
The show, which also garnered Golden Globe recognition, stars Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Jessalyn Gilsig, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison, Amber Riley, Mark Salling and Jenna Ushkowitz.

Due to the success of the first installment of the show, which aired last on December 9, FOX has already ordered a second season of the show and announced that it will soon be launching a nationwide search to cast three new roles, which will be documented on the network in the multi-part special. These newest additions will make their debut on the second season premiere.
GLEE is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are co-creators of the series. Murphy, Falchuk and Dante di Loreto serve as executive producers, while Ian Brennan serves as co-executive producer.

Courtney Love wants to compare livers with Keith Richards

Courtney Love insists she and Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards are healthy, despite being known for heaving drinking and drug use, and wants to compare livers with the guitarist to prove it.

The Hole singer - who, like the 66-year-old rocker, has a history of heavy drinking and drug use - would love to meet the Rolling Stones rocker so they can prove how healthy they are despite their rock 'n' roll lifestyles.
She said: "I wanna meet Keith Richards, I've never met him. I don't know what I'm gonna say to him, but I'm gonna touch his liver and I'm gonna let him touch my liver and it'll be awesome.
"I'm gonna make him lift up his shirt and I'm gonna say, 'Can I touch your liver?' And I'm gonna touch where his liver is and see if it's putrefied or something. I think we both must have incredibly healthy livers. We must!"
Courtney hopes to have her wish granted soon as the pair are planning to work together.
She revealed to NME magazine: "My friend is doing this Rogue's Gallery of sea shanties and I just found out today that I get to maybe sing this song with Keith. So I'm really excited."

Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos attacks US label after letting McDonalds use music

Singer calls Epic 'arrogant motherfucking pig-brained arseholes'

Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos has laid into the band's US record labels Epic and its owner Sony for allowing one of their tracks to be used on a McDonalds website.

Kapranos, who in 2006 published a book about the kind of food he encountered on tour, used his Twitter.com/alkapranos account to vent his anger at the song being used on Latenightmcdonalds.com. The site has since been taken down.

"This is an example of how a band falls out with their US label. Did they think we'd approve this shit?" Kapranos Tweeted.

He continued: "Dirty bastards. Stupid arrogant motherfucking pig-brained arseholes. I'd rather eat a cowpat on a bun than a bloody McDonalds."

VGBB Or Jason Segel To Star With Fug Blonde Actress

Cameron Diaz
is about to hit the books in the forthcoming comedy Bad Teacher, and JustJared.com has exclusive info on who Cam’s love interest will be!

Bad Teacher, which starts filming next week in L.A., is about a filthy-mouthed middle school teacher (Diaz) who fights for the attention of the school’s model teacher after she’s dumped by her boyfriend.

Sources exclusively tell JustJared.com that Bradley Cooper and Jason Segel are both in the running to star opposite Cameron!

Who should get the gig Ontd? I'm a fan of both actors but I think Segel would be a better fit than Bradley.
Sidenote: Cameron bearded for VGBB back in 2007 so they have a history.

Happy New Year!

This is a quick little blog to thank all of you for your sweet emails about the Golden Globes. I'm bummed we didn't win but even more bummed that the Cowboys are out of the playoffs...it was a tough Sunday!

I loooooved this dress! It was super-comfy.

It rained something horrible last Sunday and they didn't put a tent over the red carpet so we got SOAKED on our way into the awards. Luckily they set up a little hair and makeup touch-up stand in the ladies bathroom. I got a free lipstick!

My favorite part of the dinner was sitting next to my BFF Angela Kinsey all night. We did a lot of star gazing. At one point we tried to go to the bathroom but got stuck in a little traffic jam that included Kate Winslet, Meryl Streep, Colin Farrell and Tom Hanks. We were pinching ourselves and trying to act normal when we came upon Courtney Cox and Jennifer Aniston. It was all very surreal.

After the show we went upstairs to the NBC Universal Party where a few of us celebrated our loss by doing shots of tequila. That helped.

We made our way to the InStyle party where we met Mike Tyson!

Michael Douglas Credits Sex Life With Catherine Zeta Jones to Viagra

Michael Douglas admits he's just as in love with wife Catherine Zeta Jones now as he was the first time he saw her in 1998's Zorro.

"At least in your head, your fire burns as brightly," the Wall Street actor, 65, tells AARP magazine.

"Let's not kid ourselves. But God bless her that she likes older guys," continues Douglas of his wife, who is 25 years his junior. "And some wonderful enhancements have happened in the last few years -- Viagra, Cialis -- that can make us all feel younger."

When he first met Jones' parents, who are both three years younger than he is, Douglas admits that he "wasn't quite the son-in-law they'd envisioned. I do like to wind up Catherine's father and call him Pops."

The couple -- who wed at NYC's Plaza Hotel in November 2000 -- are parents to Dylan, 9 and Carys, 6.

"I wince when I think I'll be close to 75 when my daughter is 16. I'm not going to be able to physically chase the boys away!" he jokes.

Jones says her husband is “a terrific, extremely hands-on father."

Douglas admits that wasn't always the case. His son, Cameron (with ex wife, Diandra), is currently serving time at the Metropolitan Correctional Center on drug possession charges -- and he says he wasn’t present enough during his childhood.

"There were absences, and I was no angel," he says. "I like to be home a lot more now. I see the confidence my kids have got versus the struggle for confidence that I had or that Cameron might have dealt with."

Does Meryl Streep Deserve An Oscar for "Julie and Julia"?

Roger Ebert
once said that if Charlize Theron didn’t win the Oscar for her performance in Monster than they should just retire the award. I would further that if Meryl Streep wins the Oscar for Julie and Julia they should just retire the award out of shame.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Meryl Streep. No, really, I do.

However, with the fervor surrounding her potential 3rd Oscar win for her performance as famed chef Julia Child in Nora Ephron’s Julie and Julia I feel it is necessary to rain on the Streep parade. She is capable of very great things but is often over-praised for mediocre works (Doubt, Music of the Heart and One True Thing). With the celebrated actress gearing up for her 16th Oscar nomination for her performance as famed the late, great chef and the deafening tune of her supporters claiming that now is the time for her coveted 3rd Oscar, I must let my anti-Streep flag fly.

Much of the rhetoric surrounding the campaign for Streep’s 3rd Oscar deals with her record number of losses. She has not won in over 25 years and is on an 11-loss streak (this is well over Peter O’Toole’s record 7 defeats). For every 7 or so nominations, Streep has 1 Oscar (this seems fair in comparison with the unfortunate Mr. O’Toole).  The issue has more to do with the Academy seemingly blowing their wad with Ms. Streep too soon. She won her first Oscar for her supporting role in Kramer Vs. Kramer on only her second nomination and won for her leading performance in Sophie’s Choice three years later on her fourth nomination. At this point Streep’s ratio was pretty stellar.

Since then she has accumulated 11 more nominations but has been perennially passed over for baitier performances (Hilary Swank in 99, Jodie Foster in 88, Kathy Bates in 90, etc) or Oscarless veterans (Shirley MacLaine in 83, Susan Sarandon in 95, Geraldine Paige in 85, Helen Mirren in 06, Kate Winslet in 08, etc). This year, however, there seems to be no viable contenders for the actress as likely nominees Gabby Sidibe and Carey Mulligan are fairly unknown newcomers, Sandra Bullock’s reward will be the nomination itself and the 5th slot seems to be heading for recent winner Helen Mirren. Streep finally has the advantage.

Sadly, she doesn’t really have the performance to warrant an Oscar. Her Child is good but hardly a gripping portrayal as recent biopic winners such as Mirren, Theron and Swank . It is also questionable whether Streep is truly the lead of the film.
Collapse )

The Oscars have rarely been about quality. If they were, Tilda Swinton would have the Oscar in the bag for her performance in Julia (not to be mistaken with Julie and Julia). After the excitement of the Oscar race dies down, however, I can’t help but think that Streep’s win would end up being as maligned as the likes of Gwenyth Paltrow, Marissa Tomei, and Reese Witherspoon. Regrettably, there doesn’t seem much that can stop the inevitable win for Ms. Streep.

Today, Geimer is expected to act again on Polanski's behalf and ask that a Los Angeles County judge halt efforts to extradite the filmmaker from Switzerland.

Peter Gabriel Covers Arcade Fire

The concept behind Peter Gabriel's forthcoming indie rock covers project is an intriguing one: it's a song swap, Peter singing over orchestral reinterpretations of songs from a staggering list of artists -- Bon Iver, Lou Reed, the Mag Fields, Radiohead, Bowie, Talking Heads, etc. -- with the intention of creating "a dialogue with the writers," paving the way for a companion piece in which a string of artists would return the favor. The first installment is Scratch My Back, which Peter put together with Bob Ezrin and John Metcalfe.

Our first full listen is this take on Arcade Fire's "My Body Is A Cage," and unsurprisingly, its gothic bombast is a fine foil for Metcalfe's symphonic arrangement. It's the only song from the collection to feature a choir. Gabriel spoke in depth about the cover in this podcast, calling Arcade Fire a "self-contained" universe, and explaining both his take on the song and intention in reworking it. Here it is in Peter's words, along with the song itself in Peter's voice, which is something you should listen to fairly immediately:

It took me awhile to really get what [Arcade Fire] were doing, and I think sometimes that's a sign of quality ... I love this [song] title. I have no idea what Win was writing about here. Whatever they were talking about, for me, I got this picture of The Diving Bell And The Butterfly, and it also made me think about relationship moments when you feel totally unable to go into your body properly, and you feel trapped inside and you can't communicate the way you need to....

It was a big opportunity for John to throw a lot of paint on the canvas, and I was encouraging him to extend some of the big instrumental sections and add some of these crazy triplets, just really push it to the extreme. It's the only use of the choir on the record, but I think it's quite a moody color coming in at the end. But it's a great piece of writing, and I am now a firm Arcade Fire fan, and this was a great way to get to know their work.

(Via stereogum.com)

Peter's Scratch My Back is out 2/15 via Virgin.

I can't say that I'm a huge fan of Arcade Fire, but this cover is absolutely GLORIOUS.
Parineeta, Saif, train

An interview with Bollywood's most befuddling couple, Saifreena

A little background: Arguably, they are THE Bollywood it-couple. It is made up of the industry's highest-paid actress (who looks like Paris Hilton) and a very versatile, popular actor. Both take a lot of criticism for being famous for their family connections.

We are most comfortable with each other: Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan

Both of you have done three films together so far-'LOC', 'Tashan' and 'Kurbaan'. So, what are the changes you have seen in each other as actors?

Saif: Oh my God! You journos ask questions that reminds me of schooldays. 'LOC' was some 11 years back...so don't remember at all. In 'Tashan', Kareenaji was cast opposite Akshay Kumarji, while I was in love with my red belt. It was only in 'Kurbaan' that we were finally cast opposite each other. But talking about Kareena's acting, I think she is one of the most talented actresses of Indian cinema. (What now? Has Saif seen "Don"?)

Kareena: Working with Saif is a learning exoerience...really! He is a perfect combination of method and spontaneous acting. Besides, Saif and Aamir (Khan) are the only actors who can easily mould themselves as the characters they portray on-screen; they get into the head of the characters. (Ummm, what about Shahrukh, Boman Irani, Om Puri, AMITABH BACHCHAN?!)

Question for Kareena. You have worked with all the 4 Khans of Bollywood. So, whom are you most comfortable with?

Kareena:See, I am comfortable with all of them-Shah Rukh, Aamir, Salman and Saif...I know them since my childhood as they were my sister's (Karisma Kapoor) co-stars as well.

Saif, who looks best on-screen with Kareena?

Saif: I think, on-screen Kareena look best with Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh.

And Kareena, who looks best with Saif on-screen?

Kareena: Rani Mukerji looks really nice with Saif...I like to see them together on-screen.

NBC Shouldn't Pay Coco NoMoShowNo a Penny

Conan O'Brien: Why should NBC pay him a penny?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It's pathetic that NBC has to pay Conan O'Brien millions of dollars to go away quietly.

NBC announced Thursday that it reached a resolution with O'Brien who'll be free to pursue new opportunities after Sept. 1. His final appearance on "The Tonight Show" will be Friday.

O'Brien is believed to be getting about $32.5 million to exit and his staff will divide several million dollars.

Jay Leno will return to "Tonight" on March 1.

Tomorrow night is officially Conan O'Brien's last show, as the late night host and NBC reach a deal rumored to cost the network $44 million, Sam Schechner reports.

Television's hottest soap opera apparently has come to an end.

O'Brien left NBC in a sarcastic explosion after the network had made clear that Leno would be moving back to the 11:35 p.m. time slot -- after he had flopped in a new show at 10 p.m. O'Brien was furious about being shoved out of a job he had held for a mere seven months. NBC loyalists pointed out that O'Brien had failed to bring in the kinds of numbers it expected.

What exactly is NBC rewarding O'Brien and his departing staff for? A job well done? Not so much. Loyal years of service? Not so much. I understand that NBC is living up to contractual obligations -- and that failed CEOs also commonly receive a fortune to slink away after they have disrupted a company.

Shareholders of parent General Electric Co. /quotes/comstock/13*!ge/quotes/nls/ge (GE 16.40, +0.38, +2.37%) should be wondering why their company has to pay O'Brien to get out of town.

NBC is paying O'Brien to keep quiet and stay on the sidelines for a reasonable period. It's saying tacitly that it is taking some responsibility for O'Brien's rotten ratings and lamentable image.

Yes, Leno looks like a winner. He gets his show back and he has shown everyone -- O'Brien, the public, the critics -- that he still has plenty of juice.

But O'Brien also emerges as a winner here -- a damaged one, to be sure, considering that at least for the moment he has no show. But he negotiated a king's ransom from his oppressor and will eventually be free to field offers. Rumors are rife that O'Brien will soon launch a late-night show on Fox. (Fox, like MarketWatch, the publisher of this report, is a division of News Corp. /quotes/comstock/15*!nws/quotes/nls/nws (NWS 15.04, -0.14, -0.92%) )

The biggest winner of all in the late-night sweepstakes? That would be CBS's /quotes/comstock/13*!cbs/quotes/nls/cbs (CBS 13.53, +0.33, +2.51%) David Letterman, who was passed over long ago in favor of Leno on NBC's 11:35 p.m. broadcast.

Letterman can laugh at how much NBC messed up in his wake and how it should've chosen him all along.

Kate McGarrigle: tributes from Rufus, Martha and Anna

The legendary folk singer passed away on Monday. Here, her family discuss their raw grief and the music they all shared

The singer Kate McGarrigle died of clear cell sarcoma on Monday at home in Montreal, aged 63. With her sister Anna she formed the acclaimed and influential folk duo the McGarrigle Sisters. McGarrigle was the former wife of singer Loudon Wainwright III (they divorced in 1976) and the mother of singers Rufus and Martha Wainwright — and the family played out their tangled relationships with one another in song. “That’s why the stage felt like a living room,” says Anna, “it’s where they met and talked.” McGarrigle made her last public appearance, with Rufus, Martha and Anna, at the Albert Hall six weeks ago.

Tr@$#@ on Wendy Williams; Accompanying Article... WHO? TR@$#@ stans stay heated

There was a time when the only singers/artists mentioned were those that were actually worth mentioning. They possessed a certain “IT” that turned them into formidable superstars. That time was the 90’s. Whitney, Mariah, Toni Braxton, Usher, Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah, Christina Augilera, Britney Spears, Maxwell, and countless others came across our televisions screens and blared from our radio speakers without needing an explanation or gimmick to justify their presence. Fast forward to 2010, WHAT THE HELL IS KE$HA?

Now, I am not saying I have not tried to get into the artist known as Ke$ha, HOWEVER,  I just don’t see it nor do i wish to. It’s really a shame and speaks volumes to the current state of the music industry and its constant decline. There’s always a Ke$ha every damn year and each year one presents itself I am left scratching my head. Maybe you guys can explain, WHAT THE HELL IS KE$HA?

Are you serious? SMH

I don't think the Wendy Williams video has been posted. I didn't see it under the nobody tag. It's like watching a train crash into a homeless shelter.

Where Are The Out Black Mainstream Artists??

It’s hard to believe in 2010, there is NO black out gay artist achieving mainstream success. What can also be said of the current world of music,  there is no out black mainstream artist.  There has been other openly gay artist of other ethnicities such as George Michael, Elton John, Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury, Clay Aiken, and others. Now of course there is glam rocker, Adam Lambert. With that said,  it is truly bothersome as a black gay man that there is no representation in the mainstream entertainment format. Of course a certain Trey Songz, Diddy, Usher, and countless others who shall remain nameless are speculated to be members of the ever-increasing LGBT community. However, to this day there is no OUT black gay mainstream artist. Of the yesteryears , the sexuality of Luther Vandross, Prince, Little Richard, and (sorry in advance) Michael Jackson have all been questioned. Accordingly, the inquiries into many black artists, past and present,  have remained just that or  received the usual “denial” or “every male singer singer is asked that question” response.

What does that say about our community as a whole, that we are largley unable to accept an out gay artist on a mainstream format? Have we progressed or stayed stagnant? Is it really about the music or the image? Essentially some artist’s reason for remaining closeted is just as pathetic as the black communities justifications for not accepting an out gay artist. Rahsaan Patterson, Baron, Nhojj, and many others should be household names or at least achieving more commercial success. There’s a lack of appreciation for artistry. There’s a fear of the unknown, and there’s deep embedded homophobia passed down from generation to generation. For what other reasons can you answer the question…

Why has there yet to be a mainstream black GAY artist???

Can you think of any? I can't. Keyword being MAINSTREAM.
Also there's like 0 black gay people in the mainstream period.... I can only think of Wanda Sykes who has achieved a high level of success.. Part has to do with the ingrained homophobia in black culture, but another large part of it has to do with the ingrained racism in the gay community as well. How many people in gay media are seen with black partners? Not taking anything away from Wanda, but even her, seen as pretty much the biggest black gay influence there is, is paired up with a white (french~) woman.

Two British musicians drown after going for swim while on tour in Brazil

Two British musicians have drowned off a paradise beach while on tour in Brazil.

Timothy Kennelly, 18, and Leon Villalba, 21, died while swimming off Atalaia – the fourth most dangerous beach in the country.

It is believed one of the men lost his life after rushing into the water to save his friend who was in trouble.

Other beachgoers alerted lifeguards to a body floating in the water.

They pulled guitarist Mr Villalba out of the water, but he was already dead. The search for bassist Mr Kennelly’s body will continue today.

The tragedy happened around 2.30pm yesterday off the north east state of Sergipe.

Beachgoers described the water conditions at the popular beach destination as calm.

Mr Villalba, was a former pupil of St Aloysius RC College in Islington, north London.

The pair were members of London-based heavy-metal band After Death, who were touring Brazil.

Its three surviving members today decided to continue with the 17 remaining tour dates of their ‘Masters Of Hate Tour 2010’.

They have told local media they are ‘all in mourning and still shocked by everything that happened,’ but they are sure that Leon and Timothy would want the shows to go on. We’ll complete the tour in their honour.’

Michael Jackson's estate says NO To Joe

Michael Jackson's estate does not want to pay Joe Jackson an allowance, because Michael Jackson did not want his dad to be a beneficiary under the will and Joe wants to use the money for lavish expenses -- not maintenance.

According to legal docs just filed, estate lawyers say Joe was never legally dependent on Michael Jackson during his life.

And, according to estate lawyers, the so-called "maintenance expenses" Joe wants include vacations, air travel, hotels, assistants and legal fees.

And Joe Jackson says the allowance will include money so he can "support his children or grandchildren."

Will Arnett Post

Ask Toronto's Will Arnett how he wound up in the romantic comedy When in Rome, opening Jan. 29, and he's got a ready answer: "To tell the truth," the sardonic funnyman says, "it was a relief that somebody wanted me to do something where I'm not the dick."

That piece of self-analysis may seem a bit ruthless, but self-deprecation comes naturally to an actor who made it through a troubled adolescence, a painful struggle to launch a career, and a battle with alcoholism that nearly wrecked everything.

Will Arnett is a proud father. Some might say he's even a bit overprotective of little Archie, his year-old son with wife Amy Poehler.

"I want my son to wear a helmet 24 hours a day," he tells PopEater, hilariously. "If it was socially acceptable I'd be the first one to have my kid in a full helmet and like a cage across his face mask. I make my wife crazy with it because I'm constantly worrying, just because I know what an idiot I was when I was little."

Jay Baruchel to quit acting?

With 4 of his films being released this year, Jay Baruchel has decided to leave acting. Read the reasons below.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I was invited by Dreamworks Studios this week to watch never before seen footage from 3 of their upcoming animated releases for 2010... one of them was 'How To Train Your Dragon' starring Jay Baruchel. After the screenings, Dreamworks takes us to a restaurant called A Voce at the Time Warner Center in Manhattan to frolic and eat with peers. One of the lovely publicists at the event asks me if I could chat with Jay to get to know him better. I said sure.

Baruchel approaches me with a trucker hat, a heavy beard and a tattoo of his mother’s name on his right forearm. I ask him about it and he replies I’m going to get a few more on my body for her. He must really love his mother! We then segue into 4 films coming out this year with him as one of the lead roles: She’s Out of My League, How To Train My Dragon, The Trotsky and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. I asked how happy was he of being in the middle of a comeback. He answers disappointingly that it doesn’t mean anything, it’s all coincidence of the release dates. (as he was cursing up a storm). He continues saying that he’s been through this notion of the IT guys before and nothing has happened, “for example, when I was in ‘Million Dollar Baby,’ everybody said watch out for this guy, he’s gonna be someone. Then when I was in ‘Knocked Up,’ people said I was in a sleeper hit, gonna need to watch that kid. Then in ‘Tropic Thunder’ I was hailed as the one to watch...again! So I say, I don’t believe in being the IT guy nor am I interested.”

He then went on to share with me EXCLUSIVELY, that he wants to quit acting altogether. “You know, I don’t wake up with that feeling of love for acting, for this business. I really just do it to pay my mom’s bills and take care of her.” With his beard in tow and the disappointed look, I had to ask if he was pulling a Joaquin Phoenix here. He laughed and scoffed at the notion. He says that it was embarrassing to see that and assured me it was nothing of the sort. We finally concluded with a new movie he’s currently filming called ‘Notre Dame de Grace’ which might be his last project.

Justice League To Build Fortress of Awesome Entirely Out Of Actors, Writers. PAs To Line Moat.

We love a tight awards race as much as the next blog, and this season is certainly shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent memory. Still, we worried that some of the best films of the year are suddenly being reduced to office pool favorites and long-shots in some sort of celluloid horse race. What about their content, their message? What about the creative visions that brought these stories to the big screen?

Even as the prizes are being tallied up, we noticed what a diverse group of contenders are in play for the best picture and best director races. How can such varied storytelling all have hit a collective nerve with audiences and critics alike? To help figure that out, The Times invited five top directors -- Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker"), James Cameron ("Avatar"), Lee Daniels ("Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire"), Jason Reitman ("Up in the Air") and Quentin Tarantino ("Inglourious Basterds") -- to talk to us about their films, their struggles bringing them to the screen, their growth as directors, even the state of filmmaking itself.

Amanda Seyfried Beams In Our First Look At The New 'Letters to Juilet' Poster

We're beginning to think the adorable Amanda Seyfried is having a secret love affair with the postal service (uh, sorry Dominic Cooper!). In "Mamma Mia," she mailed wedding invites to her three possible daddys, in just two weeks she'll be penning "Dear John" love notes to Channing Tatum and finally,on May 15, she'll be sending "Letters to Juliet." And here we thought snail mail was a dying form of communication.

Snail mail aside, we've got your exclusive first look at the one sheet for the latter of the aforementioned films, which follows Sophie (Amanda), who upon visiting the home of "Romeo and Juliet" — Verona, Italy — helps respond to unanswered letters sent to the fictional Juliet seeking advice about love. One particular letter dated in 1957 catches Sophie's eye and thus provokes a chain of events that somehow leads to romantic drama for all!

Beyonce and Robert Downey Jr. in a musical?

Downey as a boozy, reckless artist?
by Clint Morris (Thursday, January 21st, 2010 at 10:16 pm )

They’ve been talking about remaking 1930s classic “A Star is Born” for years – well, rather, remaking it for a third time since it’s already been done a few times (the last time in the 70s with golden duo Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson). I remember at one stage Will Smith was supposedly attached to it, Jennifer Lopez too, and Beyonce was even in talks for it at one stage. And on the director’s side, Joel Schumacher was most recently attached to the project.

Now, according to Deadline Hollywood Daily, “Notebook” and “My Sister’s Keeper” director Nick Cassavettes (previously an actor – you’ll remember him in “Facebook”) has shaken hands with the WB in an effort to get the long-gestating project off the ground.

The studio are said to be chasing Robert Downey Jr for the lead (at least we know he can sing!), and if he passes, “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm may get the offer.

On the other side of the coin, long-time fave Beyonce is said to be still on the studio’s radar, whilst Alicia Keyes and Rhianna are waiting in the wings if the Bootilicious musician declines.

Cassavetes, who will likely shoot the film after he finishes his newie “Yellow”, sparked to a draft by Will Fetters, a hot writer at the studio.

Judge: Polanski must return to US

A Los Angeles judge said tonight fugitive film director Roman Polanski must return to the US to be sentenced in a decades-old sex case.

Polanski’s lawyers are likely to appeal against Superior Court Judge Peter Espinoza’s ruling.

Lawyers for Polanski, 76, say he should be sentenced in abstentia to time already served after pleading guilty in 1978 to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl.

But prosecutors insist Polanski must appear in a Los Angeles court and not be permitted to manipulate the justice system.

Polanski is under house arrest in his Swiss holiday home.

Polanski, arrested on a US warrant, spent more than 60 days in a Swiss jail before being transferred to house arrest on December 4.

An lawyer for Polanski’s victim had also urged Judge Espinoza to have the director sentenced in his absence.

But Michael Brennan, a law professor at the University of Southern California, said it was highly unusual for that to happen.

In court documents, Polanski’s lawyers said the late Superior Court Judge Laurence Rittenband sentenced the director in 1978 to a diagnostic study at a California prison where he served 42 days. In court documents, Polanski’s lawyers said the late Superior Court Judge Laurence Rittenband sentenced the director in 1978 to a diagnostic study at a California prison where he served 42 days.

Although the judge told lawyers that would be Polanski’s full sentence, he later indicated he was going to renege on the bargain and give him a harsher sentence at a scheduled hearing.
Polanski then fled to France and has been a fugitive ever since.

His lawyers say the judge’s promise is binding and Polanski has served his full sentence. They have asked Judge Espinoza for a full hearing with witnesses about allegations of judicial and prosecutorial misconduct in the case.

Polanski’s victim, Samantha Geimer, was 13 when she met Polanski for a modelling shoot in Los Angeles in 1977. Polanski was accused of plying her with champagne and part of a Quaalude pill, then raping her at Jack Nicholson’s house.

He was initially indicted on six felony counts, including rape by use of drugs, child molesting and sodomy. He later pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse.

His wife, actress Emmanuelle Seigner said today she “understands perfectly” that women were shocked by the case, but in the 1970s, when the crime took place, society viewed sex and drugs in a different light.

She told Elle magazine her husband, who has two young children, was a “marvelous” man.

“My husband never believed he was above the law. The proof is that he pleaded guilty,” Ms Seigner said.

Artie Lange predicted Conan O'Brien's NBC demise - 11/11/08

Artie Lange, the great sidekick to Howard Stern, predicted Conan O'Brien's NBC demise when he appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on November 11, 2008.

Artie Lange, who recently survived a suicide attempt and will be back on The Howard Stern Show at a date in the future, made a statement that painted a future Conan O'Brien didn't see coming; but is now upon him:

This is probably my eighteenth appearance and I'm very sentimental about this," Lange said. "You're leavin' You're going out to do The Tonight Show." Conan responded with "I'm going out to Los Angeles, yeah," which ignited Lange's response: "It sucks. What am I supposed to do, have witty conversations with Jimmy Fallon? What the hell.."

Conan: "Yeah. He's very funny. You're gonna love him."

Artie Lange: "I love Jimmy; he's not you. You're a writer..I'll just totally throw you under the bus. Good luck man. I don't know. I think it's a bad move."

Conan: "Well. What are you gonna do.?"

Artie Lange: "I would have rooted for that bobblehead (Jay) Leno to stay (on The Tonight Show) and you could have got, what? $40 million? Right? Wasn't that the deal? You would have got $40 million dollars?

Conan: "No, I don't think so."

Artie Lange: "Yeah"

Conan: "$40 million not to work? Sweet. I gotta look into that. Is that a possibility?"

Artie Lange: "I read it in the TV Guide."

Conan: "You read it in the TV Guide!"

Artie Lange: "Cheers to Conan!"

Conan: "Cheers to Conan."

Artie Lange: Cheers to Conan for taking the $40 million and not working."

Conan: "Let's get that deal!"

The deal that Conan O'Brien agreed to will pay him $45 million, $12 million of which will go to his executive producer and his staff as severance. Artie Lange was right: Conan O'Brien's getting $40 million for not working.

Jersey Shore’s First Season Ends With Series High

The first season finale of MTV’s Jersey Shore averaged 4.8 million viewers and a 4.8 coverage rating with people 12-34. That betters last week’s previous high of 3.6 million viewers by ~33%.

Ratings-wise, Jersey Shore has come a long way from its humble ratings beginnings. Its December 3 premiere when it averaged 1.375 million viewers.

Jersey Shore: The Reunion that followed the finale had over 4 million viewers and a 4.0 coverage rating with people 12 to 34.

Supernatural and Jersey Shore for me. What did you watch, ONTD?

Ill Grills: Celebrity Teeth Makeovers

title or description

They may look good now, but at one point, celebrities weren't picture perfect when it came to their pearly whites. Check out the famous faces who were paid a special visit from the Hollywood tooth fairy ...

After years of professional boxing, it's no surprise that Mike Tyson has had a few knockouts. But if you're going to get new teeth, why ruin a good smile with a gap toothed pair of gold chompers? Thankfully, Hollywood came knocking in the form of 2009's hit movie 'The Hangover,' and the boxer replaced his blinged out mouth with a set of pearly whites – with his trademark gap still intact, of course.

LOTR composer to score Eclipse

EXCLUSIVE. Howard Shore is on board to compose the original score for the third film in the Twilight series, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Temple Hill Entertainment today confirmed to MovieScore Magazine that the Lord of the Rings composer is going to write the music for the film, following in the footsteps of Carter Burwell (who scored the first film in 2008) and Alexandre Desplat (who wrote the music for the second, New Moon). Shore has begun work, spotting the movie, this week.

Howard Shore is, of course, best known for the Tolkien trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson, an epic work that is currently touring the world in concert form, performed live to projection. Shore also recently rescored the Mel Gibson action thriller Edge of Darkness for Warner Bros, replacing John Corigliano. This film is opening in the US next week.

ke$ha said something respectable (kind of)

From The Cut
Even if "Tik Tok" is annoying the crap out of you, as is the "$" in her name, there are things to admire about Ke$ha. She's perfectly comfortable walking around in flats and T-shirts most of the time. Also, she tells Entertainment Weekly, "I hope my record is saying you can be confident and sexy, and you don't have to wear a pushup bra and look like a whore and spend seven grand on a bag." We're not sure if that necessarily shines through in her lyrics, but the leggings with no side fabric might confuse the message.

Fifty: $400 Million Isn't Enough

Rapper 50 Cent doesn’t think his $400 million fortune is enough.

The Candy Shop hitmaker says his troubled upbringing made him believe that having a lot of money would solve all his problems, and even though he no longer thinks that is the case, he always strives to do better.

"$400 million? I’m not sure how much I have, but that sounds great,” he said. "I don’t really think it’ll ever be enough. I used to equate success with my finances because I didn’t have anything, and when you don’t have any money, it seems money is the answer to all your problems. Then you get money, and you realize that you’ve got a whole new set of problems."

Despite his worldwide successes, 50 — whose real name is Curtis Jackson — insists he is still down to earth because he is happy to travel economy.

"I really don’t mind flying coach if I have to," he said. "If the front of the plane is sold out, I’ll sit in the back. Some people are like, ‘Oh, first class is sold out. I can’t go.’ I guess they care about people seeing that they’re not sitting in first class.

"But I’m clear with my financial space — I don’t need to get any validation by someone else who sits next to me in first class. If you think a seat in first class makes you a star, then you’re not one."

Taylor Swift To Build A Pond... In Her Living Room

Taylor Swift is building a pond in her living room.

The Love Story singer is planning to turn her new home in Nashville, Tennessee, into a fairytale palace and can’t wait for building work to be completed.

"It’s going to be my fantasy world," Swift, 20, told Rolling Stone magazine. "There’s a pond in the living room… The pond is a moat around the fireplace and may possibly have koi fish in it."

The pond is not the only unusual feature the 20-year-old star is planning for her home as she has also come up with a unique design for an observatory – a human bird cage.

"You step on a stepping stone in the pond in order to get on a spiral staircase, which takes you up to the human-sized bird cage observatory," she revealed.

"They’re delivering a human-size birdcage, which I’ll put a brass telescope in. The ceiling of my living room is painted like the night sky."

James Mitchell, AMC's Palmer Cortlandt, dead at 89

James Mitchell, known to millions of viewers as the fiesty Palmer Cortlandt, has died. The actor, who started his career as a dancer and became a Broadway star, passed away in Los Angeles on January 22, 2010. He was 89.

All My Children fans are mourning the loss of one of the show's larger-than-life stars. James Mitchell, who for 30 years played the cantankerous Palmer "Pete Cooney" Cortlandt, has died. Mitchell was 89.

Though generations of daytime fans know him for his All My Children role, Mitchell didn't set out to be a soap star. Early in his career, Mitchell was an accomplished dancer. He appeared in numerous Broadway productions, including Mack and Mable, Carnival, Paint Your Wagon, Brigadoon, and Bloomer Girl.

Though he didn't start learning it until he was in his twenties, Mitchell was also a skilled ballet dancer. He toured with the American Ballet Theater and the Agnes DeMille Dance Theater.

In 1942, Mitchell landed his first role in a feature film. He appeared in Moonlight in Havana as a member of the Lester Horton Dancers. Seven year later, he scored his first credited solo role: Duke Harris in Colorado Territory. His other film credit include That's Dancing, a retrospective of great dance numbers in movie musicals; The Turning Point, in which he played the artistic director; The Bandwagon with Fred Astaire; Oklahoma; and Deep in My Heart with Cyd Charisse.

By the late 1960, Mitchell found more and more work on television. From 1969 to 1973, he played the role of Professor Hathaway on the daytime series, Where the Heart Is. In 1979, he landed the role of Palmer Cortlandt, a role described as "a tycoon with a smile on his face and a scheme up his sleeve."

During his tenure with All My Children, Mitchell earned seven daytime Emmy nominations. In 2009, Mitchell quietly retired from the daily grind of the soap game. Fans were overjoyed when the actor appeared in All My Children's 40th anniversary episode, which aired on January 5, 2010. Sadly, it would be his final appearance.

On January 22, 2010, James Mitchell passed away in Los Angeles from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), complicated by pneumonia.

In an odd coincidence, in 2005, Mitchell's co-star, the legendary Ruth Warrick (ex-Phoebe Wallingford), also passed away a short time after making an appearance to celebrate All My Children's anniversary. Though fans undoubtedly will be thankful for a chance to have seen the inimitable actors one last time, it certainly won't lessen the loss.

Snoop Dogg Says Tom Cruise Is Jealous Of Him

Snoop Dogg thinks Tom Cruise wants to be him.

The Drop It Like It’s Hot hitmaker — whose real name is Cordazar Calvin Broadus — used to "dream" about becoming as famous as the Valkyrie actor but is convinced the tables have turned over the past few years.

"When I started to star in films I used to say, ‘I dream of becoming the black version of Tom Cruise’," said Snoop. "Today I think it’s the other way round, ‘Tom Cruise could dream of becoming the white version of Snoop Dogg.’ "

The rapper — who has appeared in several movies during his career, most recently Bruno — has never lost his movie star ambition and would love to appear in a movie about the life of the late US musician Miles Davis.

"One day Quincy Jones said to me: ‘When you rap it sounds like Miles Davis playing his trumpet’. I became curious and wanted to know more about him," Dogg added. "I started to listen to his records and read about him.

"For me Miles isn’t a hero, but a desire and a challenge. Miles didn’t care what people or critics thought about him — he just played his music and kept developing himself as a person. He just did his own thing. That’s the reason why I want to play him. His brilliant story needs to be told."

The late night soap opera is finally over.

Conan O'Brien taped the last episode of his 7-month run of hosting The Tonight Show, and it was reportedly a sombre affair as many staffers were saying their goodbyes to each other during commercial breaks. The crowd chanted his name at the onset and gave him numerous standing ovations, and he implored them to sit down, pointing at his watch saying: "We really have to go."

Jean Simmons has died

Jean Simmons

Jean Simmons, 80, a beguiling actress of quiet emotional power, notably as Ophelia opposite Laurence Olivier in "Hamlet" (1948) and a revivalist preacher in "Elmer Gantry" (1960), died Jan. 22 at her home in Santa Monica, Calif. She had lung cancer.

Ms. Simmons, an auburn-haired beauty, was still in her teens when she emerged as one of England's leading box office draws.

Her breakthrough came in a cluster of three remarkably different supporting roles. In 1946, she played the young, stuck-up Estella in David Lean's "Great Expectations," regarded as one of the best Charles Dickens adaptations ever made.

The next year, she was an Indian princess capable of a wordless seduction in Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's "Black Narcissus." Then came her portrayal of the doomed Ophelia in "Hamlet," which brought her an Academy Award nomination for her supporting role.

Olivier, who directed and played the title role intuitively cast Ms. Simmons, despite her professed ignorance of Shakespeare. Time film critic James Agee called Ms. Simmons "the only person in the picture who gives every one of her lines the bloom of poetry and the immediacy of ordinary life."

from youbeboy Also, if you have an iphone, there's this app called CauseWorld. Basically you just check-in to a nearby store via the app and you get ten karma points which you can donate to various organizations. The app is backed by sponsors, so the karma points are actually a small chunk of like $500,000 that the sponsors donated, but if you choose do donate your points to Haiti, they double the contribution. It could be ten cents, a dollar or ten dollars. I don't really know, but it seems legit and it's a free app, so it could be good.
