Wandering the distribution desert for what seems like ages since it made its Sundance debut, I Love You Phillip Morris — an unlikely true tale of gay love inside the Texas penal system, starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregror — has finally found a taker. Consolidated Pictures Group, whose greatest acquisition achievement up to this point appears to have been for their self-produced Bottle Shock, has signed a mid-seven-figure deal with Morris’s financier EuropaCorp (that’s Luc Besson’s company, and he’s listed as Morris’s EP) for domestic distribution.
It opens Valentine’s Day, which feels like an eternity from now, but should give hired gun marketing guru Matthew Cohen — the clever man behind the campaigns for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and No Country for Old Men — plenty of time to dream up a memorable tie-in campaign. We’re thinking maybe magazine-insert greeting cards that say, “I Choo Choo Want to Make You My Bitch.”

LOS ANGELES — At the glittering sweatshop of a star factory that is American Idol, time to relax is as rare as a kind word from Simon Cowell.
All three Season 8 finalists happily plop down before a catered lunch during a break in filming Sunday at the Ford music video shoot, which airs during tonight's results show (Fox, 9 ET/PT). But as is often his way, Adam Lambert takes the opportunity too far.
"I just love being outside," he says, leaning back from the lunch table in his flimsy folding chair. "We're always stuck indoors, in the studio, in rehearsals, in the …"
Lambert is milliseconds from crashing to the concrete on the Paramount back lot when he grabs the table and a fellow diner grabs him. He stands up, eyes bulging.
Danny Gokey looks over at Kris Allen, then affects a Ryan Seacrest tone: "And tonight, live from the hospital, we have Adam Lambert."

New Screenwriter Boards Grayskull
(in other words, ANOTHER HE-MAN MOVIE)
Source:The Hollywood Reporter
May 13, 2009
Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures have hired newcomer Evan Daugherty to write the latest draft of Grayskull, the studio's big-screen take on Mattel's "Masters of the Universe" cartoon and toy line. John Stevenson (Kung Fu Panda) is attached to direct the adaptation.
Warner Bros. sees the big-screen version as a gritty fantasy and reimagines Prince Adam as a soldier who sets off to find his destiny, happening upon the magical world of Eternia. There, Skeletor has raised a technological army and is bent on eradicating magic.
Justin Marks wrote the previous draft.
I know this isn't the first time, but wtf.
It won't beat the campy masterpiece that had Dolph Lungren and Courtney Cox though.
What would I personally love to see done right ??
oh and this is for amarettosours

Lady GaGa has vowed never to lip synch at a concert, insisting singers who perform along to recorded tracks aren’t real artists.
The Just Dance hitmaker is adamant she would never mime the words to her songs, no matter how physically demanding her dance routines are.
And she believes fans deserve to hear her voice in live shows since they have already listened to her vocals on CD.
She says, “I would never even think about it (lip synching). The whole point to me is, if you’re gonna be number one, you better really be f***ing number one. If you’re gonna be on top, you better be able to do all those things, because it’s a real privilege to be able to make music everyday, and I get away with a lot..."
“Andy Warhol says art is what you can get away with, and I get away with a lot with my music and my clothes, and I work really hard so I could truly be a real artist for all my fans. That’s really f***ed up when you lip-synch.”

COVER STORY: Family Member: Jon & Kate Dad Grew Suspicious of Kate and Her Bodyguard
The new issue of Us Weekly reports that Jon & Kate mom Kate Gosselin grew so close to her bodyguard, Steve Neild, it caught the attention of her husband, Jon -- and has become the talk of many locals in their Berks County, Pennsylvania, community. Since May 2008, Kate has made 50 public appearances, criss-crossing the country, often with Neild by her side, as Jon stayed home with the kids. Even when at home -- whether at Starbucks or at restaurants -- Neild has been a constant companion to Gosselin, who is estranged from her family and viewed in town as not having friends.
"He threatened to hire a private investigator," a family source informed by Jon Gosselin tells Us.

Amy Adams made a dream come true for Ben Stiller's young daughter - she treated the seven-year-old Enchanted fan to a tea party with her favourite Disney princess.
Stiller stars alongside Adams in new movie Night at the Museum 2, and his daughter Ella was delighted to hear her father was working with her idol, who played Giselle in the 2007 kids' film.
And Adams was happy to arrange a special surprise for the youngster, organising a trip to the Stiller family home for an afternoon of tea and cake with Ella.
Stiller says, "My daughter is really excited that Amy Adams is in the movie because she loved Amy's film Enchanted. So Amy came over to our house and had a tea party and that was pretty special."source
I really don't think there's anyone cuter than Amy Adams in Hollywood right now.
Nicole Kidman won't be joining Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Brolin, Naomi Watts and Freida Pinto in Woody Allen's latest film, as had been reported in March, because the Australia star has left the project.
No reason for Kidman's exit has been announced, reports Variety, just as no replacement has yet to be named.
The untitled movie is due to be shot in London this summer.
Boo-urns! I was really looking forward to this! I really wanted to see Nicole and Naomi on screen together.
She sounds amazing. And she'll be on Ellen tomorrow FYI.
Hosted by “Good Morning America” contributor and President of Ariel Investments Mellody Hobson, the special features Will Smith, Samuel L. Jackson, the Jonas Brothers, Christian Slater, Cedric the Entertainer, Seth Green, Sesame Workshop’s Oscar the Grouch, Rosario Dawson and the E*Trade Babies, among others.
Hobson said: “Financial education is critically important, and ‘UN-BROKE’ proves that it doesn’t have to be boring. The economic crisis was a harsh wake-up call that we can’t keep doing the same thing in the same way. To me, that meant taking a fresh look at my own approach to financial education. This will make people laugh while they learn.”
The special’s take on basic money sense includes:
* Will Smith, who gets down to basics with a boardroom full of corporate finance executives.
* Samuel L. Jackson, who appears as a bestselling author of self-help books and who is “Broke as Hell and Not Going to Take it Anymore!”
* The Jonas Brothers, who teach screaming teenage girls the mysteries of the stock market.
* Seth Green, who explains the fundamentals of a smart mortgage from his “crib.”
* Cedric the Entertainer, who talks back to credit cards.
* Christian Slater and Rosario Dawson, who visit an office workplace to explain the importance of investing in a 401(k) retirement plan.
* The E*Trade Babies, who meet Mellody for an online chat from their high chairs.
“UN-BROKE: What You Need to Know about Money” is a co-production of Lincoln Square Productions and Overbrook Entertainment. The executive producers are Mellody Hobson and Rudy Bednar. A TV parental guideline will be posted closer to airdate.

Jack White has joined the Music Business Council in his hometown of Nashville, TN, on a 46-member board alongside the likes of Emmylou Harris and Kix Brooks.
The White Stripes man agreed to join the council which was set up to protect the city’s brand name ‘Music City’, says Nashville Mayor Karl Dean.
The council will meet to discuss music-related business decisions made by the city such as a new downtown amphitheatre, expanding the CMA Music Festival and the possibility of a non-country music festival.
"We are known to the world as 'Music City'" Dean said, according to CNBC. "Not 'The Athens of the South' or 'The Home of the Cumberland' or whatever. And we need to protect our brand and our positioning as Music City, to keep creative people here and attract people to the city and help our tax base. We want to know what the city can do together with the music industry to help them succeed here."
In addition to artists, The Music Business Council includes producers, songwriters, agents publishers and more. The first meeting of the council took place last week.
Ben Barnes is featured in the new actor portfolio for VMAN magazine’s summer 2009 issue #14, on stands May 14.
The 27-year-old British actor just premiered his new film, Easy Virtue, a loose adaption of a Noël Coward play, in which Ben and costars Colin Firth, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Jessica Biel find themselves caught up in a Jazz Age war of culture and class at an opulent British estate.
“I studied literature in school, and I’d read a fair amount of Coward,” notes Ben. “But I had never heard of this play. Probably because it’s so bad. I was really skeptical about taking the part until I realized that they had changed basically everything.”
Soon, he’ll shoot third Narnia installment. “Back in the saddle,” Mr. Barnes quips.
But Ben says he’s ready for roles that will take him out of costume and closer to the edge. “Maybe I can use the Internet to my advantage,” he muses. “A sex tape, perhaps?” Stay tuned.( Collapse )
Jimmy Jack's new zombie rockumentary project is set to entice model Gemma Ward back to the big screen and showcase the talents of a Perth band.
The Perth-based filmmaker, who wrote the AFI award winning 2007 film The Black Balloon which starred Toni Collette and Ward, is also hoping to secure former child star Macaulay Culkin to play a lead.
Jack finished the Zombie: Sex, Brains and Rock n' Roll script on Friday - most of which he wrote while a writer-in-residence at city bar Tiger Tiger - and is now beginning the process of securing talent for the new project which he will film in some of his favourite Perth haunts.
The mockumentary, about a rock band made of zombies who have to struggle not to eat their groupies, is a big departure for Jack from the emotional drama of The Black Balloon. And this time around Jack will also direct. He has a Perth band in mind to play the zombie musicians, but has not yet approached the group.
"I will be casting a Perth band as the zombie band because I want it to have that authenticity, make it really seem like a documentary," Jack says. "I don't think actors could convincingly play a band, and have maybe a couple of months before we start filming learning an instrument. Or pick up the little intricacies that I think a band could bring to it."
Jack will soon fly to New York to talk to Culkin about the role of documentary-maker. It is Culkin's comedic performances that have caught Jack's eye. He'd like Culkin to play the quirky documentarian who inserts himself into his own films.
"He's still got that comic timing that made him so good as a kid in Home Alone," Jack says. "That was such a good performance."
Ward would bring her ethereal beauty to the part of the front-man zombie's love interest.
"Her name is Tambourine Girl and she's the love interest for the front man zombie," Jack says. "The love story is kind of interesting, he'll be all kind of romantic, saying things like she's making him feel alive again."
Jack admits that many zombie films are terribly made.
"I actually don't like most zombie movies, they're really badly done," he says. But this will be no ordinary supernatural flick. "I will be directing this film, and it will be a much smaller budget than Black Balloon," Jack says. "I'll shoot it here, in the places where I hang out like Amplifier Bar, Tiger Tiger and Leederville. It will be made like a documentary about a Perth band."
The key to a successful shoot will be not attracting too much attention.
"If we are shooting here I want the crew to be so small that we don't cause any commotion, can shoot people in the background, and at their gigs," he says. "I'm hoping, and I have the feeling that if I make all the decisions to keep it as natural as possible, the cast wont feel like they're in a film."
idk who this guy is, but this movie sounds interesting, and his love for Mac and Home Alone is tops.

She's embroiled in public scandal linking her husband, Jon Gosselin, to another woman, and Kate Gosselin tells PEOPLE in its latest cover story that she and her spouse have been privately struggling for months.
"I don't know that we're in the same place anymore, that we want the same thing," she says quietly. "I've been struggling with the question of 'Who is this person?' for a while. I remember where I was the first time I heard her name. It's one of those things where you can try to make it go away, but there's blaring, red flashing lights."
The name to which Kate refers belongs to 23-year-old Deanna Hummel, whose brother later claimed she'd been having a months-long affair with Jon.
For Kate, who has referred to her husband as "my balance, my strength and my stability," to now consider a future apart has been heartbreaking but not impossible. "You can't imagine yourself in a certain position when all this first happens, but you can do it over some months," she says.
"It's a lot like when I was first pregnant with the babies, and it was pure shock and denial. But over time I imagined six cribs in my house, and six car seats. When your mind is ready to go there, you can accept any number of scenarios."
Kate does have hope, however, that her marriage can be saved. "I will never give up hope that every member of our family can be absolutely happy again," she says.
For the complete story on Kate and Jon – including how they're weathering the scandal and what their eight children think – pick up the new issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday.
Chloe Sevigny gives Lissy Trullie a hand in her new music video.
Lissy Trullie’s new music video gives you a reason to pay more attention to the person standing behind the merch table.
In the Cass Bird-directed film for “Boy Boy”, shot in New York City’s Lower East Side, a few familiar faces show up; there’s Chrissie Miller, Jen Brill, Harley Viera Newton and Cassie Coane (who?), all walking down the street and dancing in the basement of Lit Lounge.
But pay close attention and you’ll notice that the blonde offering up Lissy Trullie T-shirts is Chloe Sevigny. It’s not the actress’ first music video appearance—she shimmied like a go-go dancer from outer space in Beck’s “Gamma Ray” and cleaned hotel bedrooms in Smog’s “I Feel Like the Mother of the World”—but it might be our favorite.
In part, it’s because the NYLON cover star looks completely in her element. But also, it offers up yet another reason to see the ginger mop-topped singer’s band live—you just might have her good friend Chloe serving you drinks, checking your ID, or selling you the Self-Taught Learner EP.

The Gosselins make up to $75,000 per episode on their TLC hit, Jon & Kate Plus 8, for a 20-episode season -- and that's not even counting all their freebies!
As the Los Angeles Times reports that TLC is scrambling to find a way to revise the May 25 season premiere given the latest news on the couple, the delicate balancing act of how to incorporate reality into a heavily produced "reality" show is in the balance.
For the Gosselin clan, it's not just their show -- but their lifestyle -- that hang in the balance.
Kate, who grew up in a trailer park and didn't go on her first airplane ride until her honeymoon to Disney World, now flies only first class for speaking engagements (mostly paid for by churches), sells signed photos of her kids for $20 a pop at appearances, and received a free tummy tuck after giving birth (Jon received a free hair transplant). A family source says while pregnant with the sextuplets, she grew "obsessed" with how many goodies the famed McCaughey septuplets received in 1997.
Jon, now a stay-at-home dad, was fired from his job at Style Craft Corp in 2004 after "spending much more time" on a "quest" for freebies than working, the company's owner, David Rothermel, tells Us. (Rothermel finally has spoken out after growing furious at the couple's well-worn claim that he was fired because the company didn't want to insure his family.)
"Instead of keeping the attention on their kids, they've let the attention turn to money and fame," says a family source of Jon and Kate, who, according to Nielson Media Research, are ranked No. 8 on the list of cable shows with the most product placement.
Marc Berman, senior television editor at Mediaweek, says producers cannot continue to portray the Gosselins as an everyday family trying to raise eight kids.
"Their lives have changed - they're not struggling anymore," Berman tells Usmagazine.com. "They're eating at fancy restaurants now. Yeah, they still have eight children, but things are different.

John Mayer was left devastated after on/off girlfriend Jennifer Aniston dumped him earlier this year - according to the girl he dated following his split from the Friends star.
Scheana Marie, a cocktail waitress and part-time actress, claims to have romanced Mayer after meeting the musician in a bar.
And the 23-year-old has been making the most of her links to the star, recently telling reporters that Mayer is "funny and sweet," and boasting he has "nice lips".
But despite the rocker distancing himself from Marie, with pals insisting the pair is "not in contact at all", she claims to have an insight into his emotional state - revealing he is still "pining" for Aniston.
She tells Britain's Heat magazine, "'He really didn't think Jen would dump him - it was a complete shock to him.
"He's never really got over it and he still talks about her a lot. He's been playing guitar alone at night, pining over her."

Rihanna is not teaming up with Lady GaGa to diss Chris Brown or any other ’silly boys.’
The internet has been swarming over a song called “Silly Boy” which was posted by Kanye West (or his ghost blogger) to the rapper’s blog claiming to be a duet between the two chart-topping female pop stars. Mainstream media caught wind of the track and its not so lovey dovey lyrics (”You had a good girl…but you didn’t know how to treat her”) and immediately began running with the story that the song had to be written as a girl power kiss-off for Rihanna’s on-again, off-again flame.
But anyone hoping to hear Rih lash out through song at the man who allegedly assaulted her in February will have to keep hoping. The song – which surfaced on the internet months ago — is just a demo that may or may not have been written for GaGa and Rihanna, and doesn’t even feature their voices on it.
Kanye confirmed this with a short follow-up blog post: “Attention: Lady GaGa asked me to tell y’all that it’s not her on the “Silly Boy” song.”
But don’t count out a real collaboration for the pop divas. Rihanna is currently in the studio working on the follow-up to her worldwide smash album, Good Girl Gone Bad, so anything can happen.

Star Magazine decided to take a much-needed break from the uncool Bermuda Triangle this week, and they’re running with a cover story about Jon and Kate Gosselin called “Jon & Kate’s Twisted Marriage”. Epic. It’s more hardcore than the US Weekly covers devoted to the couple. Star lays most of the blame for problems within the marriage right at Kate’s feet. Sourcing Kate’s brother Kevin and his wife Jodi, Kate is accused of ignoring her children for the sake of her career, having an “explosive temper” and cutting off almost all of her family. They also claim that Kate and Jon have a contract that allows him to have women on the side:
Jon & Kate Plus 8 wife Kate Gosselin got on her high horse Tuesday slamming reports that she may have been cheating with her hunky married bodyguard. But what she didn’t know when she spoke to a magazine was the source of those explosive revelations!
In the May 25 issue of Star, we have an exclusive tell-all with the couple who were closer to Kate than anyone else — her brother Kevin Kreider and his wife, “Aunt” Jodi. They were mainstays of the TLC show for its first three seasons.
Kevin and Jodi’s shocking revelations about Jon and Kate include: Jon told Kevin he believes Kate is having an affair with bodyguard Steve Neild; Kate drew up a secret contract that allows Jon to have girlfriends on the side — as long as he stays on the show; She has cut off her entire family — even her parents — and spends less and less time with her eight children while she promotes her career; Her explosive temper and controlling ways have led to bitter battles between the TV couple.
And Kevin and Jodi reveal why they are no longer on the hit show. Kate freaked out when TLC suggested they be paid for their time. “No one else is getting paid but us!” Kate screamed at her brother. “We’re done!’
Kevin has a simple message for her family members. “Kate and Jon, I urge you to focus on what’s most important, and stop trading your marriage and family for fame and fortune!”
[From Star Magazine]
It all seems very retro, doesn’t it? When a couple is having problems in their marriage, just bash the woman. That being said, Kate doesn’t seem like a very good person. But neither does Jon. But I hate the idea that there’s a “reason” for Jon’s wandering eye. Considering Star actually has a named source, Kate’s brother, I’d bet that much of this stuff is true. Sort of. I’d guess that there’s some sort of personal beef between brother and sister, and that after Kevin spoke to Star, he’s going to be cute out of Kate’s life as well. The day after Carrie Prejean was told she could keep her Miss California crown, Shanna Moakler has resigned, she confirms to Usmagazine.com exclusively.
"Since the press conference yesterday, I had a chance to think about what has taken place, and I feel that at this time it is in my best interest to resign from the Miss California USA organization," Moakler tells Us.
"I cannot with a clear conscious move forward supporting and promoting the Miss Universe Organization when I no longer believe in it, or the contracts I signed committing myself as a youth," she continues. "I want to be a role model for young woman with high hopes of pageantry, but now feel it more important to be a role model for my children. I am sorry and hope I have not let any young supporters down but wish them the best of luck in fulfilling their dreams."

Few would dispute that Bono knows how to write a song, but can the U2 frontman pen a poem?
This morning, he offered his skills up for public scrutiny by unveiling an ode to Elvis Presley on Radio 4.
In his familiar gravelly voice, the 49-year-old rock icon delivered a fast-paced, 14-minute tribute to The King.
Recorded two years ago, but written in 1994, the poem, entitled American David, contained an array of strange and risqué rhymes set to a musical backing track made up of Elvis tunes and other pop culture recordings from the last 50 years.
A warning about the poem’s language preceded the airing, as a series of offensive words including “nigger” and “spastic” were employed.

She’s done a decent job of dodging the paparazzi as of late - until earlier today (May 13), that is, when some photogs caught up with Shenae Grimes in Toronto, Canada.
The “90210” starlet was spotted strolling in a park near her home while enjoying some coffee-to-go with a girl friend.
Miss Grimes must have missed the paps, as she didn’t seem to mind too much when the cameras showed up.
As for “90210,” the season finale will air next week and will have you at the edge of your seat as Annie (Shenae Grimes) finally snaps at Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) and does something that will haunt her for the rest of her life.
The finale airs next Tuesday (May 19) on the CW at 9/8c.

Wanda Sykes and her wife, Alex, welcomed twins on April 27, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Daughter Olivia Lou weighed in at 6 lbs., 7 oz., and was 19-inches long. Son Lucas Claude debuted at 7 lbs., 9 oz., and was 20-inches long. The comedian's wife gave birth to the babies.
"All are happy and healthy and at home," says Sykes's rep Danica Smith.
The actress, who stars on New Adventures of Old Christine, and her wife were married on Oct. 25, 2008. The twins are the first children for the couple.
Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz were partying it up with her brother and Alejandro Sanz a few weeks ago in Miami. Clearly they didn’t care what cameras caught them relaxing together. We’ve been wondering why Ms. Keys has been hiding out ever since the news broke of her being Swizzy’s mistress and the cause of Swizz and Mashonda’s divorce. And it looks like she was trying to let the drama die down before she took this ish public.

But according to Sinatra, this won't be a big gangster picture. The movie will show him innocent of true involvement with the Mafia: "I don't want him to be driving the getaway car. That would not be fair. But I trust him (Scorsese) implicitly." It seems that Scorsese is in "a reflective period and is willing to present the truth about her father." From the way Sinatra is talking about Marty's involvement, it sounds like he is in final negotiations, but hasn't yet signed.
Should this all get squared away and signed, it will be at least the sixth celebrity name added to Scorsese's roster in the last 4-5 years. There was Bob Dylan in 2005, then the Rolling Stones with Shine a Light, plus the upcoming George Harrison and Bob Marley docs, and The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt.
But what say you? Are you ready for Scorsese to take on Sinatra?
JJJ reader Brianne snuggles into Twilight stars Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone and Peter Facinelli at the Twilight EyeCon this past weekend in Orlando, Fla.
Brianne writes to us about her experience, saying, “I live in Florida and these past three days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), me and my dad went to the Twilight EyeCon at the Florida Hotel. Anyway, the guests there were Edi Gathegi, Peter, Jackson, and Kellan. I got autographs and pictures with Peter, Jackson, and Kellan. They were the sweetest guys. They all did these awesome Q&A sessions.”
She continued, “At Jackson’s, I never realized how deep his voice was. I asked him if he had to choose one, which would he choose: a full time career in music or a full time career in acting? In a nutshell, he said he loves all forms of art, and he would find a way to do both at the same time. He said he always plays his guitar in between takes and such. Also, he also started to blush a little bit and get a little awkward when a fan asked him if he was stuck on a desert island with a cast mate, which would he choose, and he said Ashley (Greene) and no more.
“At Kellan’s Q&A, he was such a sweetheart and he even let this little boy come onto the stage with him. Jackson’s band, 100 monkeys, played and the band The Nova Echo opened for them. They rocked the house! I got to give all of them hugs, and I gotta say, Kellan’s muscles are huge! Anyway, I’ll attach some pics, and the picture with all of them holding up sketches are my dad’s portraits of them. He is a professional artist and we gave them each a copy of them. Kellan loved his and didn’t want to put it down!”

All signs point to a new No. 1 album at the top of the Billboard 200 chart next week, as we await the arrival of Green Day's "21st Century Breakdown."
The Reprise/Warner Bros. set will see an off-cycle release on Friday, May 15. (Most albums are released on Tuesdays.) Even though "Breakdown" will only have three days of sales on next week's Billboard 200 chart, it's likely it'll debut at No. 1. Sources say the set shipped over 650,000 to retailers — though it's not expected to blow through that quantity in three days.
The album will perhaps move what Green Day's last album, 2004's "American Idiot," did when it arrived atop the list with a career-best opening of 267,000. Of course, "Idiot" did so with a regular-length debut week, as opposed to the new set's abbreviated start.
No other new releases, nor holdovers on the chart, pose a threat to "Breakdown's" chart dominance next week.
Other new albums looking for a high debut include Cam'Ron's "Crime Pays" (Diplomatic Man/Asylum), Paul Wall's "Fast Life" (SwishaHouse/Asylum) and Aiden's "Knives" (Victory).
Nielsen SoundScan's sales tracking week, as reflected in the official Billboard 200 chart, runs from Monday through Sunday of each week. The newest Billboard 200 chart, released today (May 13) -- where Chrisette Michele's "Epiphany" (Def Jam) bowed at No. 1 with 83,000 -- reflected the week that ended on Sunday, May 10.

About That Princess And The Frog Spoiler…
If you watched the new trailer for Disney's "black princess" movie which was posted Monday, you already know a major plot point, which for some, is a major problem. Spoilers ahead.
As seen in the clip, Princess Tiana kisses a frog… and turns into a frog. She then, according to reports, "spends a significant chunk of the movie not as a black princess at all but as a frog." Guest contributor Shannon Prince has brilliantly articulated what's wrong with this, on Racialicious.com:
After decades of waiting, would it be too much to actually see an hour and a half of a black princess on the screen? I can't help but think that Disney would never hide a non-black princess away in animal form for a large part of a film – maybe because they never have. This is a fairy tale with a white prince and a black princess who, for much of the movie, isn't a black princess at all. Perhaps in the scenes where Tiana is hopping around in her toady body whites in the audience will forget how melanin-endowed she was in the movie's opening and identify with her. Still, I can't help but wonder […] if this was Disney's way of saying to white audiences, "Yes, Tiana's black, but not really."
When you add this to the toothless firefly sidekick, the fact that Tiana was originally a maid named Maddy (to close to mammy?) and the lack of a black man as a hero (but a black man as a villain; the bad voodoo "magician,") do you get the feeling Disney should have spent some more time at the drawing board?

Steven Spielberg and Drew Barrymore are in talks to bring legendary movie alien E.T. back to Earth in a big budget Hollywood sequel.
Twenty-seven years after a six-year-old Barrymore melted film fans' hearts playing little Gertie, a girl who befriends an extraterrestrial visitor, director Spielberg wants to reunite the pair.
According the National Enquirer, Barrymore and Spielberg have met to discuss the project, which will show E.T. returning to Earth to rejoin the now-adult Gertie.
A source tells the tabloid, "Steven and Drew are being very secretive about this baby. But they want to do this project and work together. Steven has an incredible story in mind for the sequel that will bring E.T. back to earth."

Newlywed Mandy Moore insists husband Ryan Adams will be the only guy who will see her naked - because she can't stand the thought of random movie fans ogling her online and at the cinema.
The actress/singer admits she has fought directors over their plans to get her to peel off for movie roles - and she'll never bare all unless it's absolutely necessary.
She tells WENN, "Right now, that's something that is off limits. I'd never say never because some things are absolutely necessary.
"I feel oftentimes I've been attached to a film and then, at the last second, someone has said, like, 'OK, well this is an absolute necessity - this scene requires nudity and there's no two ways around it.'
"I'm like, 'I really believe there's so much of that which could be implied and it's just gratuitous.' I'm not comfortable within my own skin. That side of myself is reserved for my personal life and I wouldn't feel comfortable walking down the street knowing, like... it's perfectly logical to believe that any random person walking down the street has the ability to see me with my clothes off."
But Moore is keen to challenge her goody-goody image on and off the big screen - she recently posed for a provocative Details magazine lingerie spread and stuns fans in a supershort slip in her new video I Could Break Your Heart.
She adds, "I'm getting to a point and an age - I'm a married woman now - where I would like to find things that challenge me, particularly in the film side of work.
"I've had a lot of fun on movies, but I'd like something a little more dramatic, something with a little more flavour. I wanna try something that scares me a little bit."

The couple refused to comment on their plans to walk down the aisle, but Ford has finally confessed - after a TV reporter offered his congratulations.
During an interview for U.S. news show Entertainment Tonight, a reporter asked the actor if engagement congratulations were in order, to which Ford replied, "Yeah, thank you very much."
The pair has been together for seven and a half years.

Court Papers expose Carrie Prejean's abusive childhood
The nasty divorce between Miss California USA Carrie Prejean's parents may have exposed the beauty queen's abusive past!
The National Enquirer reports that the divorce papers of Francine and Wilbert Prejean reveal an ugly family secret. Documents have descriptions of Carrie being beaten by her father, bruised and scarred with a belt, even hit in the head by her mother and locked out of the house.
Carrie did not mention any of this during an appearance on the "Today" show this morning, but did say there might be more controversial pics on the way.
Yesterday, Donald Trump spared Carrie the indignity of losing her crown, which was followed today by the resignation of Miss California USA Organization's exec director, Shanna Moakler.
Sarah Palin defends Miss California
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin re-appeared on the national stage tonight, jumping to the defense of a beauty pageant contestant who has been at the center of a media feeding frenzy in recent days.
"The liberal onslaught of malicious attacks against [Miss California] Carrie Prejean for expressing her opinion is despicable," said Palin in a statement. Palin added that she spoke to Prejean soon after the beauty queen said publicly that she believed she had lost the Miss USA competition due to her answer to blogger -- and contest judge -- Perez Hilton that marriage is between a man and a woman.
"What I find so remarkable is that these politically-motivated attacks fail to show that what Carrie and I believe is also what President Obama and Secretary Clinton believe --- marriage is between a man and a woman," Palin added. "Our Constitution protects us all -- not just those who agree with the far left."
This episode looks amazing!
Lindsay Lohan will topline indie fantasy comedy "The Other Side" alongside Woody Harrelson, Giovanni Ribisi, Dave Matthews and Alanis Morissette.
Story centers on a grad student who must spend the summer working at a scientific institute on a remote island. She discovers an eccentric community of characters who are hiding a secret about a tragedy that took place many years before.
Shooting is set for October at an island off the coast of Massachusetts.
Feature role is Lohan's first since "I Know Who Killed Me" in 2007, when her career stalled over assertions of unprofessional behavior.
"Lindsay's very aware of people's perceptions of her," director David Michaels told Daily Variety. "She's really committed to doing what she has to in order to change that."
Producer Kent Harper said Lohan will be insured when lensing starts. She appeared in four episodes of "Ugly Betty" last year and will be seen later this year in the TV movie "Labor Pains."
"The Other Side" is produced by Baudelaire, Film Star Pictures and Marston, with Jory Weitz ("Napoleon Dynamite"), Harper and Diane Isaacs producing. Michaels co-wrote the script with Phil Reeves.
Michaels will also serve as an exec producer with John Molli, Anthony Yohe and Doug Claybourne ("Nights in Rodanthe," "North Country").
Project's been in development for three years. At one point, Brittany Murphy was attached along with Jason Lee, Ribisi, Jim Broadbent, Tim Roth and Lili Taylor.
I'm so excited! It's about time. I have faith in her, and I know she will successfully make a career comeback.
