Jamie-Lynn Stops by Wally-World With Baby Maddie

Thursday August 7, 2008

Jamie Lynn Spears and her seven-week-old daughter, Maddie Briann, stepped out in Kentwood, Louisiana, on Wednesday.
After a visit to the doctor's office, the two popped by the local Wal-Mart the same spot where Jamie Lynn celebrated her 17th birthday in April.
Jamie Lynn, who showed off her post-baby bod in hot pink shorts, covered Maddie with a pale pink blanket.
The group finished off the afternoon with lunch at the Spears' family favorite, Nyla's Burger Basket.
Jamie Lynn and her fiance, 19-year-old pipe layer Casey Aldridge, have been keeping a low profile since welcoming their daughter in June.
"I'm sure they're doing great," cousin Alli Sims told Us shortly after Jamie Lynn gave birth. "I know they're just so excited."

So wait... Let me get this right; She celebrated her 17th birthday at Walmart?

Bernie Mac Passes Away

Comedian Bernie Mac died at Northwestern Memorial hospital early Saturday morning, according to Sun-Times Columnist, Stella Foster. He was 50.

Though the cause of death has not been confirmed, Mac had been hospitalized recently for pneumonia. Foster said that she received calls early Saturday morning from a close friend of the Mac family, confirming the reports of Mac's death.

The columnist also said she was deeply saddened to receive such a phone call just an hour after Mac was pronounced dead.

"It brought tears to my eyes because Bernie Mac has always been my all-time favorite entertainer and comedian. It pains me to have to report that," Foster said during a phone interview on Saturday morning.

On Friday, a spokeswoman for the actor, whose real name is, Bernard McCullough, said that he had been responding well to treatment for the illness.

Publicist Danica Smith said Thursday in a statement that Mac's condition is ''stable.'' Smith first announced on August 1st that Mac was hospitalized in Chicago.

Smith has said the pneumonia isn't related to an inflammatory lung disease Mac also has. That condition has been in remission since 2005.

Foster noted that last weekend, several web sites reported wrongly that the comedian died.

Mac made waves last month with off-color jokes during a fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The comedian starred in the critically acclaimed Fox television series ''The Bernie Mac Show.'' His film credits include roles in the ''Ocean's Eleven'' franchise.

The actor's upcoming movies include "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" starring Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and David Schwimmer; and "Soul Men" with Samuel L. Jackson and Isaac Hayes.

There is no word on whether public services will be held.

Nothing cute to say whatsoever.  He will be missed.

what we did is not so secret (har har how punny)

Follow up to this entry.

So I went to the screening of What We Do Is Secret starring Shane West, Bijou Phillips, Rick Gonzalez, and Noah Segan. After the screening there was a Q&A with Shane, Bijou, Noah, the director Rodger Grossman, and Germs founding members Pat Smear and Lorna Doom as well as long time drummer Don Bolles. I have video footage as well as concert footage from their show later on that night. On top of that I have pictures. Sadly I suck hardcore because I couldn't get them to pose with an ONTD sign since they were heading toward a show and I didn't have time to go through the whole explanation of ONTD. However! I hope I did you guys proud by asking Shane West what's it like to play in front of fans that hate you. You can hear the question (and his response) in the video.

Some highlights from the day:

  • The director's dad was walking around the theater taking pictures of everything and telling random people all proud and excited-like "My son made this movie!" It was cute, I must say.

  • The movie itself was actually pretty good. I'm self admittedly not someone who's all that into punk but I have crazy love for Pat Smear (seriously, Foo Fighters Big Me video is love) and I always thought Lorna was fierce. I honestly don't think Shane West is all that amazing an actor, but he pulled this role off really well. My favorite was Rick Gonzalez as Pat Smear which made me annoyed that he wasn't there. Pat taught Bijou and Rick how to play their instruments. Those wigs were seriously horrific though, as in beyond fake. I felt bad for Noah and Bijou for having to wear them

  • Don Bolles is fucking annoying as hell, he kept answering questions geared towards other people and wouldn't shut up. The director even at one point had to be like "They weren't asking you." And you could tell Pat and Lorna weren't his biggest fans either

  • Bijou, Pat, Lorna, and Noah shared a cigarette in the theater, which wa pretty badass but made my friend and I annoyed since we knew if we pulled out a cig we would've been told to put it out.

  • I asked Shane if Jonny Was... would ever get back together and he laughed and said that chapter is done

  • The show later on that night was kind of hilarious. Picture a bunch of guys booing Shane West, and Shane in return telling them to suck his dick and tossing of beer cans towards one another ensues. It was quite a phenomenon to witness considering I've never been at a show that has had that happen. However, despite the booing from a few everyone seemed to have a kick ass time.

Jamie Lynn Spears is spotted out getting gas with a friend in Kentwood, Louisiana on Friday.

generally as a rule i defend jamie lynn with her child because she is trying so hard, however, when you're a celebrity and getting as much attention as she has since the birth of her baby, you should not leave the house like this. i don't care about that whole ~celebs are just one of us~ bullshit, i want to see them looking fierce, fab and flawless, or at least dressing better than i do when i go out. how do you feel about this

edit: to all the haters hating, please recognize that while she is only going to get gas, she is using that gas to get to another destination. if she were low on gas but intending to stay at the house, she would not have gone to fill up, just to take the car back to the house

edited again: i would also like to point out the fact that comfortable is not synonymous with sweats and a baggy shirt. i don't care if you feel differently about how people should dress to leave the house, but it's just as easy to be comfortable as something that doesn't look like pajamas.

    Gary Oldman lol @ you.

It's true that Jim Carrey has his work cut out for him in Robert Zemeckis' latest animated motion capture adventure re-inventing A Christmas Carol. Carrey plays Ebenezer Scrooge, as well as the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Christmas Yet to Come.

But co-star Gary Oldman's no slouch in the multiple-character department either. You will see the actor portraying three characters when the film is released during the Yuletide season in 2009. "I play Jacob Marley, Tiny Tim and Bob Cratchet," says Oldman. "It is a while away but I saw the renderings of the characters recently and it is amazing."

Sure, Oldman acknowledges, "that the motion capture thing isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it looked very magical and kind of inspiring."

And he believes the finished product will be even more refined than Zemeckis' Beowulf movie, and certainly improved over the director's first foray into the style on The Polar Express. "But we'll see," Oldman says.

Currently, the 50-year-old actor is reprising his role as Inspector (soon-to-be Commissioner) Gordon in Christopher Nolan's big hit The Dark Knight.

"Obviously, one of the reasons I wanted to come back was Chris [Nolan]," Oldman says. "His skill as a director aside, he's a very nice man. And he never seems to tire. You meet him on the first day and then meet him on day 147 and he doesn't look any different."

It's only the second time he's repeated himself as an actor. The first was playing Sirius Black in the Harry Potter pictures; The Prisoner of Azkaban, The Goblet of Fire and The Order of the Phoenix in which Sirius is killed off. "He went through the veil and disappeared," Oldman says.

Which reminds him: He was working on A Christmas Carol when a young Harry Potter fan intercepted him one day after an day of filming. "A little kid came up to me and he said, 'Can you tell me what Sirius saw on the other side of the veil?' " he recalls.

And what did the actor say? Oldman smiles: "I said, 'The Dark Knight and then A Christmas Carol.'"

    Sir Paul McCartney here?

Route 66 tour brings McCartney through city

    By Sean Thomas

He's taking his Magical Mystery Tour across the land he helped invade in 1964.

Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney stopped in Amarillo on Wednesday night as part of a summer vacation traversing historic Route 66 with girlfriend Nancy Shevell.

During the overnight stay at the Ambassador Hotel, the singer-songwriter serenaded one particular fan, a 4-month-old boy named after his 1968 hit - "Hey Jude."

Lori and Don Dunavin, Jude's parents, tracked down McCartney at the hotel Wednesday night, but the 66-year-old took more interest in Jude than the lifelong Beatles fans.

McCartney pulled out a small harmonica from his pocket and played for Jude.

"Jude just kind of smiled at him while he was playing," Don said.

Billboard reviews All Points West, day 1

Radiohead played a dazzling headlining set Friday (Aug. 8) to crown the first day of the inaugural All Points West festival, set just across the Hudson River from Manhattan at New Jersey's Liberty State Park.

Fresh of a similarly high profile gig exactly a week ago at Lollapalooza in Chicago, the U.K. band was at its best on material from its 2007 album "In Rainbows," particularly the gauzy ballad "Nude," the tightly wound rocker "Weird Fishes" and the sublime, soulful "House of Cards."

There were only occasional visits to the Radiohead back catalog, but they were among the best moments of the night, including "How To Disappear Completely," "Morning Bell" and "Optimistic" from "Kid A," "Lucky" and "Paranoid Android" from "OK Computer" and the lone selections from "The Bends," "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" and "Just."

Radiohead's first New York-area show in more than two years was by far the biggest drawing card of the day, although dance acts Underworld and Girl Talk packed the throngs in during their early evening sets just prior to the headliner.

Tom Selleck to appear on Dancing with the Stars 7.

Tom Selleck and his trademark moustache are set to appear on the upcoming seventh season of Dancing With The Stars.

And the Magnum, PI actor, 63, has his old Three Men And A Baby co-star Steve Guttenberg to thank for his new gig.

Steve was pleased with his experience on ABC’s ballroom hit last season he suggested Tom’s name to producer as a potential future contestant.

“The DWTS executives wanted an older hunk to bring in the baby boomer audience. Tom is incredibly popular with women 40 through 65, and producers were ecstatic when, at Steve’s urging, he expressed interest in competing on the show,” a source tells the National Enquirer.

“Tom’s stayed in great shape over the years and he’s ready to dance.”

Selleck’s said to be thrilled about the prospect of appearing on the series, which insiders say could provide a big jumpstart for Tom’s career.

“From 2006 to 2008, he was doing mainly TV work-and now he has five film deals. Tom has been itching to work in front of a live audience.”

The seventh season of DWTS kicks off September 22.

'Pineapple Express' Wins Friday: 'Dark Knight' Too Smoking Hot For Weekend

: Friday's box office was a nailbiter, but Sony's Pineapple Express won the day with $7.8 million from 3,072. Warner Bros' The Dark Knight was close behind at $7.5 million from 4,025 venues. Oh, this is going to be a fun weekend at the two pics fight for domestic gross supremacy, and Hollywood emails are flying fast and furiously!

But the latest Batman installment should have a better Saturday and therefore take the No. 1 spot for its 4th straight weekend with around $25M, while the Judd Apatow/Seth Rogen stoner comedy should end up with $23M. But Sony tells me that's a great outcome considering that Pineapple Express is R-rated with a negative cost of $27M and a 5-day total of $41M (after opening on Wednesday with a surprisingly hefty $12.1M). Meanwhile, Dark Knight can expect a gigantic domestic cume of $440+M by end of Sunday. It's unclear what effect the Beijing Olympics will have on moviegoing for the next two weeks. Total box office looks to be down 20% from last year, but that may be due to the Wednesday opening of Pineapple Express and The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2 putting in $27M gross on Wednesday/Thursday rather than any Olympics impact. The No. 3 movie Friday was Universal's Mummy 3: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor which did $4.8M from 3,780 plays, down 68% from a week ago. It should finish the weekend with $15.7M and a $70M cume. Sisterhood 2 was in 4th place with $3.9M Friday from 2,707 runs for what could be an $11M FSS and a 5-day cume of $20.5M. And in the 5th spot, Sony's Will Ferrell laugher Step Brothers made $2.7M Friday for probably a $9M weekend. Universal's Mamma Mia! was No. 6 with $2.4M Friday for what should be an $8M weekend.

Blackface is all the rage these days, didn't you know?

The debate surrounding the return of blackface has been raging for a while here at the Guardian. Far be it for me to stoke the fires of controversy further, but I wonder quite what the reaction is going to be to Robert Downey Jr's performance in Tropic Thunder, the new Ben Stiller comedy that hits cinemas here on September 19.

Downey Jr plays the Australian actor Kirk Lazarus (with vintage Natural Born Killers accent), who in turn plays the African American Sgt Osiris, one of a group of actors who unwittingly end up in a real battle whilst trying to shoot a war movie in Vietnam. The idea is that the award-winning Lazarus has actually undergone surgery to "be black" in an effort to pull off a more convincing portrayal of what is supposedly a character who existed in real life.

''If it's done right, it could be the type of role you called Peter Sellers to do 35 years ago. If you don't do it right, we're going to hell," Downey was recently quoted as saying, which sort of makes us wonder if he has actually seen The Party. In any case, take a look at the YouTube clip above, in which Downey Jr berates his fellow actor, Ben Stiller's Tugg Speedman, for his critically-derided performance as a farm hand with learning difficulties in Simple Jack, and let us know what you think.

Shocking your audience with something controversial is a time-honoured way to get them to laugh (I wonder if the late great Bill Hicks would get away with his Goatboy routine in these paedophile-obsessed times), and Downey Jr's ridiculous situation makes for some genuinely funny moments in the film. Does that justify it?

AN exhibition of rare photographs of the biggest band of all time is to go on show in Doncaster. The UK launch of Mad Day Out, a series of snaps featuring The Beatles, is being held later this month at Limited 2 Art, The Courtyard, Bawtry - 40 years after the pictures of the Fab Four were first taken.
In 1968, snapper Tom Murray joined renowned war photographer Don McCullin to assist him in a photo shoot of a rock group.

He arrived at his first location not knowing who he was there to photograph - but could hear the Fab Four's Lady Madonna being played.
That day, he shot a series of photographs of John, Paul, George and Ringo in everyday locations.

From the two rolls of film shot, 23 pictures - which have been hailed as some of the most striking photographs ever taken of the group - survived.

The shoot was so last minute and the schedule so hectic, the images became known as the Mad Day Out and for three decades the shots remained unseen.

However, Tom has now decided it is time to reveal his personal collection of these exclusive images, which are to be released as strictly limited edition prints.

One of the photos eerily depicts John Lennon lying on the floor pretending to be dead, while another shows Paul McCartney fooling around at a water fountain.

Tom said: "I just feel privileged that I was part of this historical day, getting close to The Beatles was a dream come true and I believe the timing is right to share my special collection."

The London locations for the shoot included a park, a house, and a square by the Thames Docks.

They were all random and less obvious to avoid the group attracting crowds.

After the shoot, Tom was invited back to Paul McCartney's home for tea, where the last photographs were taken.

The following day, the band returned to Abbey Road Studios to start work on their single Hey Jude.

Tom has also photographed Hollywood greats including Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Dustin Hoffman, designer Calvin Klein and Princess Margaret.

Pete Mash, of the British Beatles Fan Club commented: "The Mad Day Out images would be one of the last occasions that all four Beatles were photographed together relaxed in each other's company with smiles on
    their faces."

The exhibition will be launched at a ceremony between noon and 3pm on August 16.

Reviews of new Patti Smith documentary

Quite a life it has been: This androgynous Jersey girl obsessed with Rimbaud and Shelley and Whitman came to the big city 40 years ago and became the muse and friend and partner of Robert Mapplethorpe (no adequate English word exists to describe their relationship), became a poet and then a performance poet and then an underground rock musician and then a rock star, left the stage and the city for life in Michigan as a wife and mother, and then, after the 1994 death of her husband Fred "Sonic" Smith, returned to New York, to music, to poetry and to political activism. Sebring's film, so long in gestation that it became a major life event for both its director and its subject -- one observer opined that the film would only be finished when one or the other of them died -- offers an intimate, impressionistic portrait of this later Patti Smith, a woman still blazing her own trail through late middle age, a woman who has seen and suffered much loss and who is perhaps the only major surviving link from the beat era to the '70s Manhattan art scene to the birth of punk to the present.

An R-Rated Trailer for 'The Informers' … It’s the late Brad Renfro’s last role

There's just something about Bret Easton Ellis' work on the big screen that I love -- the desperation mixed with a backdrop of insidiously upbeat '80s music. We've gotten Less Than Zero, American Psycho, The Rules of Attraction, and now The Informers. Word broke in May of 2007 that the interconnected collection of stories was going to be adapted, and now there's a trailer.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It's the late Brad Renfro's last role, and one that should prove to be much eerier than Heath Ledger's stint as the Joker. It's got thumbsucking Lou Taylor Pucci as an entirely different sort of character, but Billy Bob Thornton steals just about every clip he's in -- and there's also the likes of Amber Heard, Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke, Kim Basinger, Rhys Ifans, and Brandon Routh.

Have you read the book? Do you think this trailer does it justice? And are you excited about the film?

Love Bites: The final book in a mega-selling series sucks the romance out of teen vampires.
    Reviewed by Elizabeth Hand
    Sunday, August 10, 2008; Page BW07

Origin stories are as important to bestselling novelists as they are to superheroes. J.K. Rowling hunched over a table in an Edinburgh coffee shop, scrawling Harry Potter in longhand while her baby napped; Stephen King sat in the laundry room of his snowbound trailer, banging out Carrie on an old typewriter. Readers want to believe there's something heroic, even magical, about the birth of the characters and stories they become obsessed with. Stephenie Meyer, author of the wildly popular Twilight series of young adult vampire romances, has her own creation myth: Her first book came to her in a dream about an ordinary mortal girl encountering a boy vampire of unearthly beauty. Meyer woke up and, after tending to her young children, began to write the story that became Twilight. So far it's sold 1.5 million copies. Last weekend, Breaking Dawn, the final book in the series, sold 1.3 million copies in its first 24 hours. Not bad for a night's sleep.

but backstreet boys are two of my very important firsts. not only were they my first concert, but the very first cd i ever bought with my own money was backstreet boys. the one with the red cover.

so they'll always have a small spot in my boyband lovin' heart and i love going to their cheesefests concerts.

thursday night i saw them for the 4th time in just over 10 years.

The New Yorker's review of Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” has a natural, flowing vitality to it, a sun-drenched splendor that never falters. Two young American women go to Barcelona for the summer—Vicky (Rebecca Hall), who is bright, skeptical, and cautious, and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson), more adventurous than her friend but unformed and easily dissatisfied, a seeker without a lodestar. In the magnificent city, they meet Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem), who is incapable of spending a night alone. Bardem’s natural-born lover—a painter, by trade—is as devastating as his natural-born killer in “No Country for Old Men.” He’s almost criminally attractive—soft-spoken and erudite, decent in his way but relentless, a Don Juan brought back to life as an English-speaking charmer. Both women get involved with him, and the movie becomes a complicated triangle that forms, breaks apart, and reforms; it’s also a lengthy exploration of the eternal struggle between security and passion, dependency and anarchic freedom.

    Vanessa Hudgens Post

    New Movie for Vanessa?

"The Misadventures of Dreary and Naughty" is the title of the book written by John LaFleur and illustrated by Shaun Dubin. The film will be adapted for the big screen and will be directed by Tommy O'Haver. The star of High School Musical film, Vanessa Hudgens has been in talks for this new project.

The boys at Whispering Hills High all have a crush on Naughty, the hottest girl in school, while none of the girls seem to notice that her best friend, Dreary, is even alive (technically, he’s not…)! Can the friendship of our otherworldly duo hold up under the trials and tribulations of the ritual of the dreaded Valentine exchange?

has anyone read the book?...i can't really find any more info on it. =/

    *UPDATED* thanks to elmofudge
Dreary and Naughty, a new series of hardcovers by John LaFleur and Shawn Dubin, is a wonderful and instantly endearing story of the son of the Grim Reaper and the daughter of the Devil, two friends who are trying to find their way in the universe. To do this, their parents make them attend school with mortal kids so they can learn firsthand about humanity, which as we all remember growing up, wasn't always the kindest to us.

Naughty is the daughter of the devil and Dreary is the son of the Grim Reaper.

    Bernie Mac's Death: What Happened?

Bernie Mac’s wife and daughter were with him until the very end, says the late comic's sister-in-law in a personal and touching interview with PEOPLE that took place Saturday.

Speaking of a heartbreaking moment between her younger sister, Rhonda, and the 50-Year-old actor-comedian – who succumbed to complications from pneumonia in a Chicago hospital at 2 a.m. Saturday – Mary Ann Grossett says that the night before Mac died, "He struggled for his life. He couldn't breathe.

"He opened his eyes on his own and looked at Rhonda. She called his name, and he opened his eyes and nodded to her. She smiled at him and told him, 'Don't leave me … 'I'm waiting for you to come back.' He shrugged his shoulders, and she said that's when she knew he was tired. He signaled to her that his body was tired."

Rhonda, Mac’s wife since 1977, and their 30-year-old daughter, Je'Niece, 30, were with him when he died. "[The doctors] were working on him," says Grossett. "They tried to resuscitate him two times. One time he came back for about an hour. Then he went into cardiac arrest the second time."

Prior to that, the couple had last communicated on July 31. "He told his wife [non-verbally] that he could breathe on his own, and he wanted the ventilator out. He motioned that he wanted it out," says Grossett.

Girlicious' Chrystina has famous uncle's support

Girlicious member Chrystina Sayers wasn't sure what to do in terms of a career but got some guidance from her uncle --legendary Chicago Bears running back Gale Sayers.

"He's just like my dad, he's very supportive," Sayers says of her famous uncle. "I don't tell this to a lot of people, but when I was a ninth-grader or a tenth-grader I was deciding whether I wanted to take on this career or not -- being an entertainer.

"I remember talking to him and asking him, 'What do you think I should do? Do you think I should go into the entertainment business and try and become a singer -- or go and try athletics?' He was the one who actually said, 'I think you should try and go forward in the entertainment business, I think you should do it.

"Because he's an athlete I thought he might say, 'Try the WNBA.' But I'm way too short for the WNBA. Even for a point guard you have to be five-foot-seven or something like that -- and I'm only five-foot-two, well five-foot-one-and-a-half. I just tell them I'm bringing the Sayers name back to the limelight because he's still a legend in football."

Perhaps the biggest challenge Girlicious will soon face is how to celebrate three birthdays in a span of four days. Sayers turns 21 on Thursday, Tiffanie Anderson turns 20 the following day and Nichole Cordova turns 19 on Aug. 17.

"I'm just going to do something really special for all of them," Natalie Mejia says. "I'll sing Happy Birthday to each of them."

Sexy and flirtatious Chrystina approves of this post!

Food Network's Tyler Florence and wife welcome a baby girl

Food Network's Tyler Florence and his wife Tolan Clark Florence welcomed daughter Dorothy Tyler Florence on Friday, August 8th at 8:08 am.  She weighed 9 lbs and was 19 inches long. Tolan announced on her Facebook page that Dorothy was born, "is perfect", and added this picture:

Additional info from his Wikipedia: Florence is married to Tolan Clark; she gave birth to the couple's first child, son Hayden, on May 23, 2007. He also has a son, Miles (b.1996), with ex-wife Christie Leer.

    Clay Aiken's baby better watch out - here's another 08/08/08 @ 8:08 baby (even though I doubt it's exactly at 8:08 am).

Also, I'm pretty sure the source added those annoying green stars.
