China Chow is Topless and Dating Keanu Reeves
02:47 AM, Filed under: Home \ Celebrities \ China Chow
China Chow is British. China Chow is an actress. China Chow is dating Keanu Reeves. And China Chow is Topless. That's pretty much all you need to know to appreciate this post.
Now, if you're still wondering who the hell China Chow is, here's the few little glints of information I could find on the tubes of the Interweb: She was almost famous in the mid-90s, starring alongside (and dating) Mark Whalberg in the 1998 movie The Big Hit, and she was also a model. She's half Chinese, half Japanese, half Scottish, and half German. That's a lot of halves, but it works.
And that's more than you ever wanted to know about China Chow. Check out lots more pictures of China and Keanu on their topless holiday in the French Riviera after the jump.

New Animated Video for "7 8 9"BARENAKED LADIES have collaborated with Emmy-nominated animator Nancy Lennert (Blues Clues, Little Bill) to create a funny western-themed video for the track “7 8 9” off of their forthcoming original children’s album, SNACKTIME. The western-themed video features the numbers 1 through 10 hanging out at “5 Ladies Saloon,” but 6 is afraid of 7.

Life imitated art near a Chicago movie set when a police officer arrested a juvenile accused of shooting his gun outside a car near the filming of Johnny Depp's mobster film "Public Enemies."
The shooting occurred about 12:30 a.m. Friday in the 1600 block of South Blue Island Avenue near the set on the city's South Side, according to police.
It happened about 30 minutes before Depp arrived on the set. No one was injured.

The Spice Girls won't be performing for Nelson Mandela at his 90th birthday celebrations in Hyde Park, according to singer Mel B.
The girl group, who reformed at the end of last year for a world tour, had been linked with the London event, which is expected to feature Eminem.
However, speaking to the BBC, Mel B said that the Spices "have a lot of stuff going on."
"I know that I'm here working probably until the end of the year but I know I don't have a break," she said. "But he's a great guy. I can't believe he's 90."
When asked what she would say if Mr. Mandela asked them to perform, Mel B said she wasn't "quite sure if we have been asked."
"But I know that we're not going to be performing together at all for quite some time right now," she added.
Tickets for the Nelson Mandela concert, which will feature Leona Lewis, Queen and Razorlight, are available by a registration system only.
They're "not going to be performing together at all for quite some time right now"... That kind of makes it sound like they'll eventually be together again. This makes me happy, because I refuse to believe the possibility that they're gone for good.

Sir Paul McCartney has called on Britons to adopt "meat-free Mondays" to cut carbon emissions.
The former Beatle said cutting out meat one day a week was popular in Australia, where shoppers had become conscious of the environmental impact of cattle rearing and meat production.
In an interview with trade magazine The Grocer, Sir Paul called on UK consumers to cut down on meat consumption even if they could not give it up altogether.
He said: "A lot of people go to the gym on a Monday. With meat-free Mondays, it's a bit like going to the gym but with the added advantage of protecting the planet."
Sir Paul, a long-term vegetarian, said he was encouraged by the lead set by the UN on the issue.
"One of the most significant conclusions of the recent report on climate change was that we should eat less meat. This is not the Vegetarian Society that said that. It's the UN."
Sir Paul is the latest celebrity to appear in a Peta advertising campaign promoting vegetarianism.
Along with stars including Alicia Silverstone, Casey Affleck, and Forest Whitaker, the former Beatle dons an "Eat no animal" T-shirt for the campaign.
P.S. One of my favorite food writers, Mark Bittman, (aka "The Minimalist") wrote an interesting article a few days ago about reducing the amount of meat in our diet called "Putting Meat In Its Place" in The New York Times. It's not preachy, just educational. DEFINITELY worth the read.
P.P.S. Fun fact: I was listening to an interview with Chris Martin and Will Champion on Radio 1 from their gig last Monday and Chris mentioned that one night, when he was doing karaoke, Paul happened to be there as well. Paul got into the spirit and did karaoke, too! He sung "YMCA" with Chris, who only did the "A" (because he said that Paul was more talented than him). All the while, Chris was not able to believe that Paul was that humble. Personally, I'd like to see Paul actually doing the letters with his hands 'cause that would crack me up. Or all those wedding line dances like the Macarena, the Electric Slide or the Casper Slide.
NBC News has tracked down whoever updated Tim Russert’s Wikipedia entry with news of his death, before any major outlet, including NBC, had reported it — and fired the culprit. That’s because 30 Rock wanted to privately notify Russert’s family of his death, at their D.C. newsroom, and not have them learn about it on a television broadcast. Or Wikipedia. “We were not prepared to say anything until all the family had heard,” says NBC News spokeswoman Allison Gollust, who says the network asked other networks to hold the news. It was a “junior level” staffer at Internet Broadcasting Services, which operates NBC’s local news websites, who made the changes. Naturally, this brings the Times to conclude that while Matt Drudge has his own breaking news platform, Wikipedia is the only Internet soapbox for the little people.
June 22, 2008 -- HUGH Hefner has gleefully enjoyed a sexually liberated life, but few know it all started with a little erotic dabbling within the Playboy czar's own family.
In his upcoming book, "Mr. Playboy: Hugh Hefner and the American Dream," Steven Watts writes how after Hefner wed his first wife, Millie, in 1949, he enlisted his friend Eldon Sellers, who would later help him co-found Playboy, into a staging a foursome.
The book relates: "One night after [Hugh] and Millie watched a stag film with Janie and Eldon Sellers, he suggested that the four of them make love on the same bed, each husband to his own wife. They did and in Sellers' words, 'It was different and exciting.' According to Millie, Hugh began to hint at switching partners, apparently suggesting it with the Sellerses, although the swap never materialized."
Hef then went further, trying a foursome out on his own family. "It did happen with his brother, Keith, and his wife, Rae, one evening," Watts writes. "[But] while Millie ultimately backed out of having sex with Keith, Hugh slept with his sister-in-law."
The book also claims Hef once tried a gay tryst. "Hefner's thirst for sexual experience became so strong that he even had a one-time homosexual experience," Watts writes. "One evening in downtown Chicago he was propositioned and, according to Sellers, he 'thought, what the hell. Found it an interesting experience. As far as I know, the guy just gave him [oral sex].' "
Hefner also once shot a porno starring himself called "After the Masquerade." Watts writes: "It was shot at a friend's apartment where Hefner and a female acquaintance had sex while wearing masks."
Hefner told Page Six he cooperated with Watts and gave him access to his personal papers. "This is the most authoritative book ever written about me . . . It's all essentially true," he said.
She may sing that she's "kissed a girl," but rocker Katy Perry will be snuggling close to boyfriend and Gym Class Heroes singer Travis McCoy for the next few months.
"We're going to spend the whole summer together," McCoy, 26, told PEOPLE at a recent record release party for label mate Tyga, in Los Angeles.
"She's going to be on Warped Tour with us, she's going to be performing. It's going to be a good time."
The 46-city, two-month Warped Tour kicks off Friday in Pomona, Calif.
Asked what he likes about I Kissed a Girl singer Perry, 23, McCoy says, "She's super hot, for one. But when I first heard the song, I was like this is going to be a smash. The next thing you know it's No. 1 on iTunes.
"I'm proud of her, she deserves it. She's been in this business for the last six, seven years, and she's finally getting a break. I'm excited for her."
So, are they music's newest power couple?
"I don't know how much power we have, but we'll see," McCoy says, laughing.
And about the couple part ...
McCoy recently bought Perry a diamond ring, but it's a "promise ring," he points out. She wears it on her left middle finger "and I have one too!" He gushed. His is a silver band that says 'Katy' on it.
"I went in (to the jewelry store) and said I wanted a ring," says the musician. "The lady behind the counter said 'here's one for $300.' I was like, 'I want a nice ring!' Then I pointed to the big one."
He admits he was "so scared to give it to her," but that her reaction eased his nerves. "She was so excited! And I'd set up flowers everywhere."
Asked if this was rehearsal for an actual proposal, McCoy shrugged ... with a grin.
i didn't even know they were dating.

Rapper/producer Timbaland and Monique Idlett wed in a formal ceremony on a private island in Aruba Sunday evening, Usmagazine.com has confirmed.
Guests included Missy Elliott, Omarion, rapper Magoo, singer Keri Hilson, Ginuwine, producer Nate "Danja" Hills and Interscope/Geffen Chairman Jimmy Iovine. In all, approximately 300 people were invited.
The couple had tied the knot – in their sweats! – with a family pastor in Virginia earlier this month.
Timbland and Idlett, who are based in Miami, welcomed a baby girl named Reign in November. Timbaland, 37, also has two sons, Demetrius and Frankie, from a previous relationship.
Demetrius gave the bride away and Frankie was the ring bearer.
Reign was carried down the aisle by their longtime friend Fredrick Fraser, the vice president of Mosely Music.
Timbaland proposed during Idlett's baby shower in October. They had been dating for two years and this is the first marriage for both.
Of course no glimpse of the infant just yet as Honor stayed all cozied up in her carrier while her new parents enjoyed the sunny afternoon.

Will Smith wants to star in a Bollywood film. The 'Hancock' actor - who has made his name by landing lead roles in a series of big blockbuster action movies - thinks it is time to try his hand at a different genre.
He said: "I've made a couple of speculative deals in India. We've got some Bolly-Will movies going on!"
Will also dismissed claims he is planning to make a follow-up to his hit movies 'Bad Boys' and 'Bad Boys 2'. He added to 'T4 Sunday' presenter Steve Jones: "I probably won't do that. There have been pitches, and the concept is genius for 'Bad Boys 3' but I've moved on now." It was recently reported Will had begged director Michael Bay to let him reprise his role for a third time because his son is such a big fan of the movies. Will and Martin Lawrence starred in the first film in 1995, with the sequel being released eight years later.
The Bachchans' upcoming Unforgettable world tour has something to look forward to - leggy lass Shilpa Shetty is all set to team up with Aishwarya Rai for two performances.
Shilpa is preparing to dance the night away with Aishwarya, Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan in London Aug 23-24 at the prestigious 02 Arena, earlier known as the Millennium Dome.
But this is not Shilpa's first show with Amitabh.
"I've been on a world tour with Amitji earlier, but not with the rest of the family. And Preity Zinta, who will also be coming along, is a terrific hassle-free girl. As for Aishwarya, we're both from Mangalore. I'm looking forward to going on stage with her," Shilpa said.
Shilpa's popularity soared in Britain after her stint in reality show Big Brother, which she went on to win.
And what made Shilpa join the Unforgettable tour at the eleventh hour?
"It's not a last-minute thing at all," said Shilpa. "I had been in negotiation to join the tour for a while. It finally worked out now. I'm looking forward to going on stage with the Bachchans."
While Shilpa will join the Bachchans in London, Madhuri Dixit is expected to perform in the US and Canada and Akshay Kumar will be seen at the inaugural show in Toronto July 18.

Carrie Underwood knows the way to get over a bad breakup – work hard and become more successful than your former beau.
The 25-year-old star has dated a series of Hollywood hunks including Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford and American football star Tony Romo.
And although Underwood insists she's not akin to the vengeful character in her hit song Before He Cheats, she does relish in the revenge her superstardom has already provided her against former flames.
She says: "Cheating is a deal breaker. If you cheat, you're gone. Getting revenge on a guy is just not worth it to me. I mean, it definitely sucks at the time, but obviously you're not supposed to be with that person.
"The best revenge I can think of is becoming famous."
'Guitar Hero,' 'Rock Band' soon playing Beatles?
Beatles music may soon be strumming a new tune via air guitar video games, according to a report in the Financial Times.
Apple Corps and EMI, which respectively represent The Beatles' business interests and ownership of its master recordings, have reportedly been in discussions with video game publishers Activision and MTV Games.
Under a possible deal that could be worth several million dollars, users could put their air guitar to use while listening to The Beatles and playing Activision's Guitar Hero or MTV's Rock Band games, according to the report.
The move to push The Beatles' music onto a new stage via video games could occur within the coming weeks, the Financial Times reported. Such a move would mark a change in embracing technology for The Beatles' music, given that digital-use licenses for Beatles recordings are not yet available.
The Beatles representatives, as well as the game publishers, declined to confirm whether a deal is on the horizon.

Legendary fashion designer Vivienne Westwood is not a fan of "Sex and the City: The Movie," branding the film's fashion styling uninspiring and "quite dull."
The designer, 67, is name-checked in the film and even created a dress worn by Sarah Jessica Parker's fashionista character Carrie.
But Westwood insists she was far from impressed with stylist Patricia Field's work on the big-screen adaptation of the hit TV series.
She says, "I thought 'Sex and the City' was supposed to be about cutting-edge fashion and there was nothing remotely memorable or interesting about what I saw.
"I went to the premiere and left after 10 minutes."
I love how her dress is kinda a big deal in the movie, and then she completely trash-talked the movie.
Once upon a time, Hollywood was littered with bad girls who partied late hours, made sex tapes and broke laws like they were dishes. Nowadays, however, things are a little more tame.

Showing off a slight baby bump, Nicole Kidman is featured in July's Vogue, where she talks about finding love again with hubby Keith Urban, being pregnant with her first biological child and the photo that made her cry.
Tom Cruise's ex says that her second marriage is more laidback that her earlier relationships.
"Keith and I, we're more like, 'Hey' [she shrugs and smiles]," she tells the magazine. "We just gently, gently sort of fell into each other. We were just two lonely people who went, 'Ah, there you are.' I'm so committed to this relationship, and so is he. I don't have addiction problems, but love is a very powerful force in my life. It's my fatal flaw and my virtue."
And after struggling to become pregnant — and suffering miscarriages — the actress says she's thrilled to welcome a baby this summer.
"When I first saw the baby on the ultrasound, I started crying," she said in the interview. "I didn't think I'd get to experience that in my lifetime. I like the unpredictable nature of it. To feel life growing with you is something very, very special, and I'm going to embrace that completely."
Nicole — who has two kids with ex-Tom — and Keith will be celebrating their second wedding anniversary on June 25. They married on June 25, 2006 in Sydney.

Jason Bateman - a child star grows up
Jason Bateman found stardom as a boy in Little House on the Prairie. Now, he tells Gill Pringle, he's making adult choices

In the run-up to this weekend's release of "The Love Guru," self-described Hindu leader Rajan Zed began blasting e-mail releases to media outlets (including The Associated Press) from his Nevada home, stating his objections to the Mike Myers comedy when it was still a two-minute trailer.
While the movie avoids explicit connections to Hinduism, Zed's concerns center on the frivolous use of Hindu terms — gurus, the ashram, karma, yoga — and crude allusions to its traditions. The potential for stereotyping was great, he argued, because the culture is not widely understood in America.
Paramount, which has previewed sensitive films to select audiences in the past, said in a March statement that "It is our full intention to screen the film for Rajan Zed and other Hindu leaders once it is ready." Zed said his repeated requests for an early screening were unmet, however, and he continued his campaign after buying a ticket this weekend.
In search of another perspective, the AP asked Vasudha Narayanan, a distinguished professor of Hinduism in India & the Diaspora at The University of Florida, to see the movie with one question in mind: Could "Love Guru" be seen as an affront to Hindus?
Narayanan, who is not connected to Zed and is too quick with a laugh to seem easily offended, was game. She thought she knew what she was getting into when she and her 22-year-old son went to a Saturday matinee in Gainesville, Fla.
"What can I say?" she said shortly after leaving the theater. "Having raised two boys, I think I could handle the most puerile sense of humor. I wasn't offended, I was just ... it was sick!"
At only one point did Narayanan, who holds a Ph.D. from The University of Bombay, say she truly cringed: "When I saw the guru peeing into the bucket — it's easy for people to take offense at this, especially, if this is associated with guru behavior," she said, offering the caveat that "by that time it was so over-the-top that it almost didn't register."
In her own words, here are Narayanan's thoughts on "The Love Guru."

Taylor Momsen of Gossip Girl fame just got signed to IMG models.
This make her one of the youngest girls on the roster, since Taylor is fourteen - a year younger than when she scored her first Prada campaign and leaped from IMG's development board onto their women's one.
There's no denying that Taylor has model looks and model height, but it's interesting to note IMG's scooping her up so quickly, since she has yet to score any big campaigns or magazine covers.
Expect a big Teen Vogue spread soon, and also probably some sort of Neutrogena / Clinique / Lip Smackers partnership, unless she sails straight past the Dooney and Bourke market and scores some Gap ads.
Also: IMG signed Mischa when she was about sixteen and turned her from a child actress into a sex bomb. It would be silly to think that isn't also their strategy here.
Pamela Anderson sees her new reality show as more "self-portrait" and "art project" than a typical reality series.
In the July/August issue of Radar magazine, Pamela Anderson opens up about her new TV venture and more.
Tentatively titled "Pam- Girl on the Edge," the series is scheduled for an eight episode run this summer on E!
Anderson offers a first-hand glimpse into her current life, which is quite revealing given some of the gossip about her that has sprung up in recent months. A few things that have come up about her recently include her personally manning a lemonade stand at a charity yard sale in Malibu, and her "writhing" on the back of a Harley Davidson nude while onstage at a cabaret show in Paris.
The show, which is even considered by her executive producer as more of a documentary than a reality show, will have Anderson involved in directing and editing.
Her two children by Tommy Lee will be "strictly off-limits" while shooting, but Anderson admits that the audience may get "occasional back of heads and stuff."
It is surprising that the sexual icon who conquered Playboy and the cultural phenomenon "Bay Watch" could have possibly once thought of L.A. so naively. She says, "I thought when I came to L.A. people would have parrots on their shoulders," she says. "I still don't understand where that concept came from. And I thought for sure photographers would have pointy shoulders and big hats. "Yes, pointy shoulder pads and parrots. And hats."
The interview took place while Anderson was preparing to appear at a USO show at Camp Pendleton outside of San Diego. Comedian and TV personality Kathy Griffin, was also performing for the troops, and gave her opinions on Anderson’s claims that her upcoming TV series will be more legitimate than a typical reality show.
"A reality show is more humiliating," Griffin said. "A docu-series is for people who don't want to admit they have a reality show. J. Lo's is also a docu-series. I'm not famous enough to have a docu-series."
Is anyone actually going to watch this?

Here’s the story: Kat, who stars in the ever-popular LA Ink, actually ended up on Richards’ new E! reality show, Denise Richards: It’s Complicated, when Richards (and her camera crew) visited Kat’s shop (no LA Ink camera crew that day) to cover up Richards’ tattoo of her ex-husband’s name (more on that later). It’s a confusing story, but then, not much in Richards’ life is simple. In fact, it’s complicated.
A former cheerleader at El Camino High School, in Oceanside, CA, Richards began modeling after graduation, and eventually made her way on to television shows such as Saved by The Bell and Seinfeld. Her breakthrough came after roles in the sci-fi classic Starship Troopers in 1997, and oversexed thriller Wild Things in 1998. But shortly after playing Dr. Christmas Jones in the 1999 Bond flick The World Is Not Enough, her personal life eclipsed her career. In 2002, she married actor Charlie Sheen and the couple had two daughters, Sam and Lola. When their marriage deteriorated, the messy divorce played out tabloid-style, with vicious rumors and a restraining order, followed by a relationship between Richards and Richie Sambora, the ex-husband of her friend Heather Locklear. Just when things settled down after her relationship with Sambora ended in the spring of 2007, Richards mother passed away suddenly. Determined to set straight the tabloid view of her, Richards agreed to star in a new reality show.
INKED caught up with her to talk about family, her buddy Kat, her new show, and her fresh tattoo.

Come On Over
Producer(s): John Shanks, Brett James
Label: Columbia Nashville
Pop princess and tabloid queen Jessica Simpson needed to hit a home run with her country debut if she wanted any shot of being accepted in a skeptical carpetbagger's world, which has recently been inundated by the Eagles, John Mellencamp, Darius Rucker, Bon Jovi and Jewel. How about this? Mission accomplished and then some. Sexy, flirtatious "Come On Over" is everything it needs to be—undeniably country and not forced. Under watchful maestro John Shanks and Brett James, Simpson shines on a steel guitar-laden track that finds her pleading with a beau to drop everything for a little loving. Is it the most thought-provoking tune in recent years? No, but Simpson is convincingly ready to play in the country arena. Come on over, indeed. —Ken Tucker
The track is currently #28 on the country airplay charts with one of the biggest bullets.

Lil Mama's debut album Voice of the Young People barely made a sound when it hit the charts at No. 25, selling just under 19,000 copies last month. But the young femcee is loud and clear about what the problem was and adamant that it'll be fixed the next go round.
SOHH caught up with the pint sized rapper and got the word on all her latest projects and why her first foray was an admitted flop.
"I was definitely disappointed with the numbers," she told SOHH about her sales figures.
The sales were unexpectedly low, especially after the commercially successful singles "Lip Gloss" and the Chris Brown and T-Pain assisted "Shawty Get Loose." Lil Mama blames the low sales on her label, Jive Records.
"My fan base is out of this world and the youth really look up to me and I know for a fact my album wasn't promoted correctly because people would come up to me like, 'Oh your album is out?' Or, 'This is the second one?'" She said. "It's really disturbing to know that I signed with a company that didn't promote my record properly. Highly disturbing."
Lil Mama said she didn't think Jive had a right to be all that upset about the disc's performance.
"The number of albums that they shipped out shows their prediction," she quipped.
But the pint sized emcee promised the problem would be corrected with her sophomore set. She plans on getting back into the studio soon to begin work on that. In the meantime, she has several other projects in the works.
She just signed on for a second season as a judge on MTV's competition show, "America's Best Dance Crew." And she'll be debuting her brand new video, "What It Is (Strike a Pose) featuring T-Pain on MTV's new show FNMTV on June 20.
Lil Mama was also recently nominated for a Teen Choice Award.
"Knowing that Teen Choice, Nickelodeon, that the whole team could just be like, 'Wow, Lil Mama she's doing things. She's the only female in the category of best rapper.' It feels good to see that they understand that," Lil Mama said. "Being acknowledged is very important and it shows that you have respect. Sometimes as an artist you get to the point where you think nobody really recognizes what you're doing and how much hard work you've done. But it's not true. People do recognize, you just have to keep working because nothing comes easy."
tbh, i think they just waited way too long to release the album...if it had been released when either of her two big singles were doing well, it would have done better...by the time she released her album, it had been almost a year since "lip gloss" and "shawty get loose" was dead

This morning's Daily News blind item—on a divorced comic star exploring a "groovy" new persona as an openly gay man—was as obvious as they get. Some of you commenters told us that the guy we were all guessing, Mike Myers, star of the "groovy baby" catchphrase-apalooza Austin Powers films and the current dud The Love Guru, has been out 'n proud in Toronto for years. Fair enough. We're not sure why it is that the Daily News would bother featuring this as a "blind item" only to use such dead giveaway clues, other than that they it would be too gauche to "out" Myers, um, outright. Seems like a bit of nasty piling-on to Myer's already miserable Love Guru bomb of a weekend.

Former American Dreams TV star Brittany Snow told People magazine back in 2007 that she had been diagnosed with anorexia, exercise bulimia, depression, and body dysmorphic disorder as a teenager – and that her weight had even dipped to 85 pounds at one point.
Nowadays, the up and coming actress says the she has shelved her personal trainer and has sworn off dieting altogether. Talk about a turnaround!
“I canceled my trainer.” Snow, 22, told press at Stride Gum’s Longest Day of the Year party in West Hollywood. “I refuse to do the whole diet, fitness, style thing anymore. I just kind of go and have fun. I know what I like, I know what makes me feel good, and that’s just what I do. I go to the gym every day, I eat really well, I buy dresses by myself. I want to work and be with my friends. That’s all I really care about.”
When asked about staying healthy, Brittany tells: “I think more than anything, the thing I’ve learned in being here is that everything else doesn’t matter as long as you’re taking care of yourself and you’re having fun. Just hanging out with my friends and trying to take care of myself, I think that’s the biggest thing.”
The Prom Night star has reportedly credited friend and One Tree Hill actress Sophia Bush for helping to coach her on body image issues.

You've never seen a Shaq Attack like this.
Shaquille O'Neal took the mic at a NYC club last night, unleashing a freestyle verbal assault directed at his arch-enemy Kobe Bryant -- blaming his former teammate for ruining his marriage and imploring him to "Tell me how my ass tastes."
After spending several verses shredding Kobe apart for losing in the NBA playoffs, Shaq drops the line, "I'm a horse, Kobe ratted me out, that's why I'm getting divorced."
Launch photosThe line most likely references a comment Kobe made during his infamous 2003 rape case, when he told Colorado police that he "Should have done what Shaq does ... Shaq would pay his women not to say anything." The two became famously bitter rivals after the incident.
Calls to Kobe's reps were not returned.
HARRY POTTER, Franz Ferdinand and Ewan McGregor are set to feature in the New Scottish Gallery.
The new permanent gallery will open at the National Museum of Scotland in July, exploring the country's history over the last century. Scotland: A Changing Nation will feature iconic objects from famous Scots, including Chinese and Latin editions of ADVERTISEMENTHarry Potter signed by JK Rowling, and Ewan McGregor's signed Trainspotting script.
There will also be Lulu's costume worn while performing with Take That, Franz Ferdinand's Mercury Music Prize and original notes typed by Ian Rankin for his novel, The Falls. Part of the museum closed for three years in April for a £46.4 million refurbishment. However more than half of it remains open.
The new gallery will look at how Scotland has changed, using objects, music and film. The exhibits will focus on five central themes - war, emigration, industry, politics and entertainment.
There will be more than 25 personal stories, including one from Scots singer Amy MacDonald, who recounts her memories of holidays in Scotland. Other items on display will include lyrics to the Proclaimers' Letter to America, Moira Shearer's ballet shoes and a helmet and gloves belonging to motor racing champion Dario Franchitti.
The free gallery will open on the sixth level of the National Museum of Scotland on 11 July.

Annie denies Girls Aloud snub rumours
Norwegian popstar Annie has scotched rumours that Girls Aloud "forced" her to drop a track from her new album.
Recent reports claimed that Girls Aloud were angry with Annie and producer Brian Higgins after they used the group's vocals without asking them.
However, Annie insisted that the pop five-piece were only too happy to appear on 'My Love Is Better', a track from her upcoming album.
"Girls Aloud were in the studio next door recording 'Can't Speak French' and we needed some backing vocals," Annie told DS. "Brian asked them if they'd like to help out. They were really up for it and came into my studio and it was really fun."
However, Annie also revealed that Girls Aloud have now been scrubbed from the track because of record company politics.
"Something came up with the record label and they couldn't be on the record after all. It's a bit of a shame, but it's not as dramatic as they said in the papers. Nobody got nasty," she said.
Cheryl's band to be mentors
Gorgeous new X Factor judge Cheryl Cole is sexing up the show even more - by roping in her Girls Aloud bandmates.
Cheryl, 24, has persuaded Sarah Harding, Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts to become mentors to her three finalists.
And 'Team Cheryl' will be on board from the early stages - helping their pal pick her trio at the boot camp stage.
Yesterday a source said: "Cheryl really wanted the girls to help her because they are all so close. She is over the moon they can play a part in her new project. And the girls are delighted for her and looking forward to passing their wisdom on to some new talent."
Girls Aloud themselves emerged from another ITV talent show - in 2002 they won Pop stars: The Rivals.
Cheryl has been taking a break from her new job in the past week, sunning herself with love-cheat hubby Ashley, 27, in Spain's posh Puerto Banus.

Bruce, Liars, Spiritualized, Grinderman Cover Suicide
As do Sunn O))), Klaxons, Primal Scream, Lydia Lunch, Peaches
Catch phrases like "way ahead of their time" and "blazing their own trail" don't really cut it-- Suicide were in their own sonic world entirely for most of the 1970s. It took folks a while to catch on, but catch on they did, and nowadays Alan Vega and Martin Rev are widely revered for their influence on punk, no wave, post-punk, noise, synth pop, and all manner of musical explorations that emerged in their wake.

While no one can dispute that Jennifer Aniston's recent romantic escapades with younger man John Mayer are good for selling a boatload of gossip magazines, two films set to debut this fall and winter will answer the question: Is she as good at selling movie tickets?
The first test of Aniston's box office clout will occur on Oct. 24, when the ensemble dramedy He's Just Not That Into You, co-starring Drew Barrymore, Ben Affleck, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Connelly and Justin Long, hits theaters.
Based on the best-selling book of the same name, the movie weaves together numerous overlapping story arcs that deal with the ever-widening gender gap and the misunderstandings men and women often encounter in relationships.
Then Aniston returns to cineplexes on Dec. 25 with Marley & Me, a romantic comedy co-starring Owen Wilson about a couple whose relationship is tested when they are forced to care for a dog.
Will people be as interested in these films as they are in Aniston's love life? And can either movie hit as big as the actress's last on-screen venture, the $118.7 million-grossing "The Break-Up"? Watch the trailers and decide.
So here's the poll that the source had up, I re-made it for this post:

The Verve has christened its reunion album "Four" and will release it before the end of the summer.
The set is due Aug. 18 via EMI internationally and a day later in North America, where it will come out on the Verve's On Our Own imprint with distribution via MRI/Megaforce/RED.
The album's first single, "Love Is Noise," was premiered on BBC Radio One today (June 23) and is now streaming from the band's MySpace site.
"This is a very special band, with four incredibly talented people," the Verve's manager Jaz Summers told Billboard in February. "They made three great albums before. And they're going to make another great album now. There's a bit of magic when the four of them come together."
The Verve got back together in 2007 following a nine-year hiatus. The band's last album was 1997's "Urban Hymns," which launched the U.K. combo to worldwide stardom on the strength of the single "Bittersweet Symphony." Since then, frontman Richard Ashcroft has recorded three solo albums.
The Verve has a dozen summer festival dates on tap, including a co-headlining slot at Glastonbury later this month.

When Stevie Nicks comes to Chaifetz Arena this weekend, her fans won't have to worry about her dropping "Gold Dust Woman," "Rhiannon," "Landslide" or other staples to make room for new material.
First of all, Nicks, 60, hasn't released new music since 2001's "Trouble in Shangri-La"; her latest release is last year's "Crystal Visions — The Very Best of Stevie Nicks."
Second, Nicks just isn't into deleting hits from her set.
"People aren't happy with you for doing that, and we've all tried," she says. "The Eagles tried it, Fleetwood Mac tried it, I've tried it. We try to do it because we want to do something different. But then when you do it, you find your audience going to the bathroom or going to buy a T-shirt.
"They've leaving because they're not familiar with what you're doing and don't care. So all we can do is take the nine or 10 songs they're coming to hear, build a set around those songs, add four or five songs, and mix it around, change the sequencing. Then it appears to be different to everybody."
Nicks, who will rejoin Fleetwood Mac for a tour next year, says her show has changed since the last time fans saw her.
She put "Beauty and the Beast," "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You" and "Outside the Rain" back into her show, and added songs by Bob Seger and Dave Matthews Band.
"Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You" is performed in front of a video montage of American soldiers in noncombat situations.
"It's great, but I couldn't look back at the video," says Nicks, who believes she'd lose it if she did. "It's beautiful and poignant. It had everyone in tears."
Nicks, who filmed a PBS "Soundstage" episode to air this summer, had more to say about her music and tour.
Q. When you look over your solo repertoire with a collection like "Crystal Visions — The Very Best of Stevie Nicks," are there any regrets?
A. I have no regrets. I did everything pretty right. The only thing was in 1986, with the tranquilizers (she says it was Alonpin). I got through the pot and the cocaine and the Kool menthols and still worked. But the tranquilizers stole my soul. It was a very sad time. I curled up and didn't do anything. I could have made one or two more Fleetwood Mac records, and my own repertoire would've been 30 to 40 percent bigger.
Q. You released "Timespace — the Best of Stevie Nicks" in 1991. What makes "Crystal Visions — the Very Best of Stevie Nicks," the very best?
A. Some of it is live, some of it is hot new mixes, some of it is video with me sitting and doing commentary over each video and telling people what the song is about and what was happening in my life when the song was being made. That's interesting and fun to me because it's not just greatest hits.
Q. Dixie Chicks and Billy Corgan both covered "Landslide." What's the preferred version?
A. I love the Dixie Chicks, and I love Billy Corgan's version, crazy as it was. I'm friends with the Dixie Chicks and I got to sing it with them in a four-part harmony, and they brought it back in a huge way. Now the version I do is different, and the Dixie Chicks made that possible.
Q. Your songs have been heavily remixed by dance-music technicians, including the Deep Dish remix of "Dreams" on "Crystal Visions." How do you feel about your material getting this treatment?
A. I love them. I work out to all these dance remixes. With Deep Dish, they asked whether they should use my old vocal, or another singer, or if I could sing it over. I said I'll be there in an hour. It was a thrill to put a brand-new vocal on it, though it sounds similar to the old (one). My voice doesn't change.
Q. Destiny's Child used "Edge of Seventeen" for its hit "Bootylicious." What was your thought on that?
A. I know Beyoncé fairly well, and she's a doll. She asked me if she could do it, then she called and asked me to be in the video. As a writer, 50 percent of that song is mine. Every time that song is played, Beyoncé and I make the same money.
Q. When can we expect the next Stevie Nicks studio project?
A. I don't know. That's why I'm doing more greatest hits and going back in the vaults and finding cool stuff that might bring people out to Borders and Starbucks to buy a record. I can do a solo record, but what will happen is 1,000 hard-core fans will buy it and push the send button and send it to 5 million others. That makes me wonder, why bother? People are stealing our songs.
Latest: Actress Cynthia Nixon has criticised the media for recently alleging she underwent cosmetic surgery - because she actually had a breast cancer check-up.
The Sex and the City star was snapped entering a New York hospital earlier this month and had a "breast augmentation", according to the New York Post's gossip column Page Six.
But she insists her medical visit was for a completely different reason.
She tells the New York Daily News, "I was at St Luke's Roosevelt Hospital for my three-monthly checkup. I was in the Oncology department. I guess they (the press) think that means plastic surgery.
"We got a call from the Post (the paper that ran the story) asking if I'd had a breast augmentation, and my publicist laughed at them and said, 'No, of course not.' But they printed it anyway."
Nixon, 42, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 and went public with the news in April - but she still undergoes quarterly checks to make sure the disease has not returned.
She adds, "If I was going to get a boob job, wouldn't it make sense that I'd get it before Sex and the City (the movie)?"
Rapper DMX was arrested Monday on a warrant for not having a valid driver's license, Miami-Dade police say.
The rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, 37, was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Monday afternoon. His bond is set at $500.
The gruff-rapping Simmons has been dogged by brushes with the law over the years.
He is awaiting trial on drug and animal cruelty charges in Arizona. Police in May raided his home in Maricopa County, where deputies say they found 12 neglected pitbulls. He has pleaded not guilty in that case.
The popular rapper and actor also pleaded guilty in 2002 on similar animal cruelty and drug charges out of New Jersey.

Nattura Concert Two of Europe's most important and influential musical entities, Björk and Sigur Rós, have officially announced details of their open air Náttúra concert in Iceland on Saturday 28th June.
Commenting on the gig, Björk said: "Too often battles being fought for nature turn into something negative and into mudslinging. We will not go that way, we are not saying that this and that is forbidden, we are rather asking 'what about all these other possibilities?' The 21st century is not going to be another oil century but rather a century where we need to recycle, think green and design both power plants and our surroundings in harmony with nature."
The event will raise awareness of the destruction of Iceland's cherished natural landscape (the largest unspoilt wilderness left in Europe), through increasingly invasive aluminium smelting activity, and a new book by Andri Snær Magnason, Dreamland: a self help manual to a frightened nation, that details the destructive behavior from an intelligent point of view and suggests what can be done to rectify such massive problems.
The book, a best-seller in Iceland, is published in English next month by Citizen Press and has already attracted worldwide attention due to its radical style, in the vein of Naomi Klein, Malcolm Gladwell and Jared Diamond, and critical acclaim from the Icelandic media. It has also won the Icelandic Literary Award and the Icelandic Bookseller Prize.
Held in a large park, Laugardalur, which is near Reykjavik, the concert also features local musician Ólöf Arnalds and will be held between 5pm and 10pm on Saturday 28th June 2008.
Entry is free and all of the performances will be in broad daylight with Iceland's capital city and dramatic rolling scenery providing a perfect backdrop to what is expected to be one of the biggest concerts the country has seen.
Both headlining artists have recently finished a series of touring commitments, with Sigur Rós releasing their brand new album 'Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust' on June 23 and Björk following 2007's 'Volta' with a huge worldwide tour.
If Dreamland: a self help manual to a frightened nation was an equivalent best seller in America, 20 million people would own a copy. Now translated into English, respected Icelandic author Andri Snær Magnason offers a unique perspective on the environmental problems that two musical superstars have dedicated a whole concert to addressing - that of the dramatic increase in aluminium smelting destroying pristine Icelandic nature.
The book was a runaway hit in Iceland and has inspired a renaissance of environmental consciousness, specifically against the industrial metal processing plants that are ruining vast chunks of Europe's largest unspoilt wilderness. Andri's work has been published in twenty countries around the world and he's collaborated with several musicians, including fellow Icelanders Múm.
A feature length documentary film based on the book is scheduled to be released this autumn.
Everyone let's talk about how amazing Iceland is, how amazing Bjork is, how amazing Sigur Ros is
Pete Doherty has baffled his neighbours in rural Wiltshire by placing a life-size dummy of the roof of his house.
The Babyshambles man recently installed the mannequin on top of the building in the small village of Durley.
He’s even took to dressing it up, a one point putting a dressing gown and black tights on the dummy.
A curious neighbour told the People: "I had to do a double-take. What a bizarre thing to do.
"I wondered who would do something like that - then someone told me who lives there and it all made sense!"
"I took [his mother] to the Brits because, I call it the Justin Timberlake example. If you take your mum to an award show with you, you can basically end up with 3 midgets a gram of coke...and everyone thinks you're this really nice person."
"Yes I did (have sleepover with Michael Jackson) It’s a weird story, but I didn’t touch him. He was just good friends with my friend Sean (Lennon) - it’s weird he was friends with a 10 yr old boy. But we just went and stayed at his house and it seemed ok at the time. I think it’s still OK. Unless I’m going to be in therapy in 4 years’ time!"
"It sounds weird to say my friend knew Michael Jackson, but that’s just what it was. Sean was my best friend, he lived next door to me in NY. He was like, Michael Jackson's coming over’ and I asked my Mum if I could go. There is no way to make this story sound normal, but it was."
"We were just hanging out, we used to watch the porn channel because we were like 10 and ‘Oh my God, tits!’ So Michael was in bed…. And me and Sean said Michael do you want to see something cool? We turned the dial to the porn channel and there were strippers shaking their tits around. We were like ‘Michael Michael how cool is this?’ We turned around and he was cringing saying ‘ooh stop it, stop it, ooh it’s so silly"
"We were like ‘Michael - you have to look, maybe you’re not seeing it right, it’s naked girls!’ He was not down with the program whatsoever. I think he just had really strong feminist views on porn and the use of it."

I'm told there will just be a Heroes sneak peek, not the full premiere.
Right there with you, babe. And the awesome answer is
The fifth season starts up July 16 on Bravo, and while Bravo and Lifetime battle it out in court over the show's move to Lifetime (one day later on July 17), the Weinstein Company is pitching around its third—yes, third!—Project spinoff (Project Triple Threat) to search for the best actor-singer-dancer. (The other two series in the works are Models of the Runway, about the models from Runway, and Project Pygmalion, which turns the winner into a high-class socialite.)
The series is back in September! And if any of you can hop on a plane to Vegas right now, you might catch them shooting. Debi Mazar tells us: "Shawna's back, and she's kicking ass. I come in there, and I'm like the mama. I've shot a couple of episodes. And we're actually going to Vegas this week to shoot some really exciting stuff."
Yep, but as a consolation, I can tell you that the endlessly hot
Yes, on July 18.
Not sure about Lenny Clarke, but as of last week Rachelle Lefevre's role of Annie Cartwright and Colm Meaney's role of Det. Gene Hunt are back on the open market.
It's great. It's a documentary/reality show set at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and I'm not ashamed to admit that the first episode made me cry more than once. It's an unscripted version of ER or Grey's Anatomy, and just like on those shows, a carefully selected ballad over a scene of vulnerability or pain will rip your heart out. Also, it's distressing (but fascinating) to see "real" people suffer through medical crises that are fictionalized and therefore consequence-free on other shows. Internal bleeding on ER? No problemo—sure it's a medical crisis, but Neela will save the day. Internal bleeding on Hopkins? Holy crap, can Dr. Mustafa save the day?

New York, June 23 : Rosanna Arquette has revealed that a scene she filmed for ‘Crash’ was so embarrassing that the director had to scrape it off.
In an interview with Night magazine, the red-haired star said that she had to do a sex-scene in a car with James Spader for David Cronenberg's twisted "Crash,” after she gave birth to her daughter, Zoe Blue.
However, the scene went awry and they had to eventually cut it out.
"My daughter was just one year old when I made 'Crash' . . . I had to go immediately into a car and do a love scene with [Spader]," The New York Post quoted Arquette, as telling the mag.
She added: "And I was breastfeeding and Cronenberg kept staring at me, like in this weird way, and I said, 'What? What?' And he goes, 'I'm really hoping you'll lactate.' . . .
“At one point, while we were Filming, I screamed and my poor milk just shot off. I [said] to him, 'Oh, I think you may have gone too far' . . .
“He cut [the scene] and later sent that little bit of film to me . . . I remember saying to [him] . . . 'Well, you cut out the most significant thing I have ever done on film."
Crash is a notorious NC-17 flick about perverts who stage car accidents to get sexually excited.

A discrepancy regarding the health of Amy Winehouse arose Monday after the Grammy-winning singer's father said she had early stage emphysema brought on by smoking crack cocaine and cigarettes.
A publicist for Winehouse later said he had misspoken "out of his concern for her."
"She is not diagnosed with full-blown emphysema, but instead has early signs of what could lead to emphysema," Tracey Miller, her U.S.-based representative, told The Associated Press on Monday.

Director Kevin Smith remembers George Carlin
They say you should never meet your heroes. I've found this a good rule to live by, but as with any rule, there's always an exception.
My first exposure to George Carlin was in 1982, when HBO aired his "Carlin at Carnegie" stand-up special. When I saw the advert—featuring a clip of Carlin talking about the clichéd criminal warning of "Don't try anything funny," and then adding, "When they're not looking, I like to go …," followed by a brief explosion of goofy expressions and pantomime—I immediately asked my parents if I could tape it on our new BetaMax video recorder.
That was a hilarious bit. But when I finally watched the special, Carlin blew my doors off. Whether he was spinning a yarn about Tippy, his farting dog, or analyzing the contents of his fridge, Carlin expressed himself not only humorously, but amazingly eloquently as well. I was, as they say, in stitches.
And that was before he got to the Seven Words You Can't Say on Television.
I was 12 years old, watching a man many years my senior curse a blue streak while exposing the hypocrisy of a medium (and a society) that couldn't deal with the public usage of terms they probably employed regularly in their private lives. And while he seemed to revel in being a rebel, here was a man who also clearly loved the English language, warts and all—even the so-called "bad words" (although, as George would say, there are no such things as "bad words"). I wouldn't say George Carlin taught me obscenities, but I would definitely say he taught me that the casual use of obscenities wasn't reserved just for drunken sailors, as the old chestnut goes; even intelligent people were allowed to incorporate them into their everyday conversations (because George was nothing if not intelligent).
From that moment forward, I was an instant Carlin disciple. I bought every album, watched every HBO special, and even sat through "The Prince of Tides" just because he played a small role in the film. I spent years turning friends on to the Cult of Carlin, the World According to George, and even made pilgrimages to see him perform live (the first occasion being a gig at Farleigh Dickinson University in 1988). Carlin influenced my speech and my writing. Carlin replaced Catholicism as my religion.
Sixteen years later, I sat across from the star of "Carlin at Carnegie" in the dining room of the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles. It was a meeting I'd dreamed of and dreaded simultaneously. George Carlin was the type of social observer/critic I most wanted to emulate … but he was a celebrity, too. What if he turned out to be a true prick?
What I quickly discovered was that, in real life, George was, well, George. Far from a self-obsessed jerk, he was mild-mannered enough to be my Dad. He was as interested as he was interesting, well-read and polite to a fault—all while casually dropping F-bombs. But most impressive, he didn't treat me like an audience member, eschewing actual conversation, electing instead to simply perform the whole meeting, more "on" than real. He talked to me like one of my friends would talk to me: familiar, unguarded, authentic.
I made three films with George over the course of the next six years, starting with "Dogma" and his portrayal of Cardinal Glick, the pontiff-publicist responsible for the Catholic Church's recall of the standard crucifix in favor of the more congenial, bubbly "Buddy Christ." A few years later, I wrote him a lead role in "Jersey Girl"—as Bart Trinke (or "Pop"), the father of Ben Affleck's character. It called for a more dramatic performance than George was used to giving, but the man pulled it off happily and beautifully. (Something most folks probably don't know about George: He took acting very seriously. The man was almost a Method actor.) Sadly, I consider that "Jersey Girl" part my one failing on George's behalf, and not for the reasons most would assume (the movie was not reviewed kindly, to say the least). No, I failed because George had asked me to write a different role for him.
In 2001, George did me a solid when he accepted the part of the orally fixated hitchhiker who knew exactly how to get a ride in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back." When he wrapped his scene in that flick, I thanked him for making the time, and he said, "Just do me a favor: Write me my dream role one day." When I inquired what that'd be, he offered, "I wanna play a priest who strangles children."
It was a classic Carlin thing to say: a little naughty and a lot honest. I always figured there'd be time to give George what he asked for. Unfortunately, he left too soon.
He was, and will likely remain, the smartest person I've ever met. But really, he was much more than just a person. Without a hint of hyperbole, I can say he was a god, a god who cussed.
Supernatural creator/executive producer Eric Kripke has signed a two-year exclusive deal with Warner Brothers TV, Variety reported.
Under terms of the pact, Kripke will continue to executive-produce and run The CW's Thursday staple Supernatural, which enters its fourth season this fall.
Kripke also will start to develop projects under the deal. There's no word whether one of the new titles might be a Supernatural spinoff; Kripke has said in the past that he's interested in doing a prequel of sorts that takes place in the Old West and centers on the show's mythology.
Kripke's at work crafting the show's fourth season, following up on the season-three cliffhanger that sent Dean (Jensen Ackles) to hell.

Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough is mourning his father, Hoke, who died in his sleep, PEOPLE has confirmed. He was 69.
Dorough's father, a longtime code enforcement supervisor in Orange County, Fla., had been diagnosed in March with lung and brain cancer. Howie, 34, and his bandmates previously canceled their South Africa concerts so the singer and his wife Leigh, 34, could be with his dad.
"Our family just wants to say thanks for all your prayers for my father, Hoke Dorough. His strong will helped him to fight cancer for the past three months. I was blessed to be able to spend the last month with him and create some memories that I will take with me forever," Howie said in a statement on behalf of his family.
ETA: Added a pic of the family. It's a little old, but it's the only I have of Howie and Hoke.

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Culture Club frontman Boy George has been forced to cancel his North American summer tour after U.S. authorities refused to issue him a visa, citing looming legal issues overseas.
George's 24-date North American trek was scheduled to begin July 11 at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, and wrap August 23 at the House of Blues in Dallas.
"At the moment, Boy George cannot come to the United States of America because he has been refused permission to enter by the USA Administration," read a statement from the artist's management. "This is not in respect of anything he has done in the past but because he is facing a trial in November in London for something that happened in April last year."
George was arrested last year after a 28-year-old male escort from Norway accused the singer/DJ of false imprisonment and assault. George later denied the allegations and was released on bail.
"George's lawyers in London have absolutely forbidden us to speak about the facts of that case and all I can say is that George is astounded at the decision and is having lawyers here in the States look at it in the hope that someone will change their mind," the statement continued. "George really would love to come to America and repay his American fans loyalty and that is why we are asking the US Authorities to reconsider their decision."
In 2001, George supported the release of his "Essential Mix" collection with a brief DJ-tour
