Proving that Britney Spears has learned a little something from frequent companion Criss Angel, she made brief appearances at a Las Vegas club early Saturday – only to disappear.
With her new song "Gimme More" blasting, the pop singer showed up just after midnight as the celebrity host of the grand opening of Luxor's LAX Nightclub, dashing Internet speculation earlier in the evening that she'd cancel.
"How you guys feeling? Let's have a good night," she told the crowd from a platform above the DJ booth. Her song got an enthusiastic response from the clubgoers who included Nicky Hilton, Wilmer Valderrama, Brody Jenner, Shawn Wayans, John O'Hurley and Dave Navarro.
Wearing a short off-white dress, a white fedora hat and oversized red sunglasses, Spears spent about 20 minutes in the VIP area at a table next to illusionist Angel, who's helping shape her Video Music Awards performance. Spears swayed to Timbaland's "The Way I Are" and "Shake What Your Mamma Gave Ya" as Angel joined her. At one point, she took Angel's red lollipop out of his mouth and put it in her mouth. She then headed to the ultra-private Noir Bar next to the club.
(i'm posting this cuz I didn't see the video posted, she was not really into her own song when it started playing.........but really who is....)
MAYA Arulpragasam's Brooklyn apartment was a neglected mess when she finally returned to it last month after six months abroad. But it took only a day to straighten it up and turn it into a makeshift multimedia headquarters.
Displacement is nothing new for Arulpragasam - better known as the rapper M.I.A.; in fact she seems to thrive on it. A description of her life and music is inevitably like one of those old movie montages in which an aeroplane zigzags across a map from continent to distant continent.
She left Sri Lanka at the age of nine, a refugee from an ethnic civil war that's still ongoing, and discovered hip-hop in a London housing project. After art school in London, she began making music that was simple and handmade but had a staggering, far-reaching ambition, with flirty yet brutally evocative lyrics set against whip-crack electro beats, dance hall reggae and Brazilian funk.
Her debut album, Arular in 2005, was a critical jackpot, both in the mainstream press and the blogosphere, receiving a Mercury Music Prize nomination for its efforts. For her follow-up, Kala, the original strategy was the conventional one: to pair up with brand-name producers and shoot for pop hits. But things did not go according to plan. Instead the album became, by necessity and by choice, another restless, far-flung journey.

Matt Dallas, star of Kyle XY didn't have many credits to his name when he got the coveted titular role in the series. But one credit stands out - a lowbudget slasher flick called Camp Daze, now retitled Camp Slaughter for dvd release.
The movie is really horrible, a slasher about a quartet of modern day young people finding an 80's camp stuck in time in the woods. People start dying, including a couple of gay guys. (Believe me, it isn't even as interesting as those sentences...)
Check out the trailer, and an interview with Matt Dallas at the "premiere" of the film in LA.
The interesting part is the production company that produced the film - Scream King Productions. The gay guy who runs this outfit, Alex Pucci, aka Alex Dove, specializes in gay horror strangling fetish videos, most of which are available from the sister distribution company, Dead Guys Cinema.

On a personal note, I worked with Pucci on one of his films. A particularly sleazy day involved him holding a 'strangling' audition in a hotel room with an 18 year-old 'actor', who he put thru his strangulation paces. As the kid dropped to the floor 'dead', Pucci let out a sated, half whisper, half moan 'Fuuuuuck' under his breath...

Twenty-five years after "Blade Runner" was panned by critics and pulled from theaters, U.S. director Ridley Scott savors revenge with the final cut of the science-fiction film now considered a cult classic.
Presenting the new version of what he considers his most accomplished movie, Scott recalled the difficulties he had when he first pitched the work to Hollywood.
"I was a new kid on the block in Hollywood, so driving to those studios everyday was a magical mystery tour. But it was hard, the whole process of making the movie became quite difficult," he told reporters at the Venice film festival after a press screening.
"I wasn't used at that point in my career to having too many cooks in the kitchen, and I think there were many people who started to get involved.
"So out of it came a hybrid version of what I'd originally intended. Consequently ... we had a bad opening, bad previews, confused previews. I was killed by some critics ... then I thought it would be gone away for ever," Scott said.
The futuristic thriller is set in the year 2019 and follows policeman Deckard (Harrison Ford), a "blade runner" trying to catch and kill four human replicants who have escaped from a space-based colony.
The response at early sample screenings before the official release in June 1982 was so weak that the producers forced Scott to add voice-overs to the film and change the final scene to make it a more "happy ending."
Even then, bad reviews and the almost simultaneous release of Steven Spielberg's hugely popular "E.T." ended the theater run of "Blade Runner" prematurely.
But the film eventually achieved cult status through re-issue on television and home video.
Scott, 69, said he had almost forgotten about it until he saw clips on music television channel MTV and realized that his film "was having a strong influence on younger generations."
Over the years, five versions of the film have been released, but Scott said the "Final Cut" -- which will be issued as a collector's DVD edition later in the winter -- was "really as it was intended to be."
"A good film is like good book, you might go to the shelf and take it off and revisit it. There are not a lot of films I can do that with from my collection of material," said Scott, whose other titles include international hits such as the first "Alien," "Thelma & Louise" and "Gladiator."
At present, Scott is working on "Body Of Lies," one of several American movies on the war in Iraq due for release in the next few months. But he said he would like to make another science fiction film.
"I am continuously looking for that so if anyone has got a science fiction script in their briefcase, give it to me."
Seriously, i don't get why we need to have another cut of this.
Here's Jack and his mother Sharon buying a dog yesterday. Why people still buy dogs from pet stores is beyond me. Isn't that something we shouldn't do?
Doctor Who to return for fifth series in 2010.
After months of media speculation, the BBC can confirm that the BAFTA award-winning Doctor Who will return for a fifth series in Spring 2010.
Viewers are in for a treat this Christmas, as a special episode starring David Tennant and Kylie Minogue will be broadcast on BBC One in December 2007.
Series Four, which went into production in July 2007, will hit UK screens in Spring 2008, followed by a special episode for Christmas 2008.
In 2009 Doctor Who will return with three specials starring David Tennant, with Head Writer, Russell T Davies.
The full-length fifth series will transmit in 2010.
Jane Tranter, Controller, BBC Fiction, says: "Doctor Who is one of the BBC's best loved and most successful dramas. Its journey over the past three series has been one of the most ambitious and exciting that we have had, and I'm delighted to be able to confirm not only three exciting specials for 2009, but a fifth series in 2010."
Menna Richards, Controller, BBC Wales, says: "The success of Doctor Who is a fantastic tribute to the dedication and expertise of the production team at BBC Wales who have worked on the project from the outset. This announcement is marvellous news for all involved, and more importantly for the programme's amazing fan base and audience. BBC Wales is looking forward to producing the fifth series."
Following the critically acclaimed season three finale, the BBC has announced that Catherine Tate is set to return to the TARDIS for the complete 13-week run of series four, reprising her role as Donna from the 2006 Christmas special.
Freema Agyeman, who won praise for her portrayal of Martha Jones in series three, is also set to return mid series four.

VENICE, Italy - Actor Owen Wilson, who was hospitalized Aug. 26 after an apparent suicide attempt, is doing well and even making colleagues laugh, the director of his latest film said Monday.
"Obviously he has been through a lot this week," said Wes Anderson, who directed Wilson in "The Darjeeling Limited," one of the films in competition for the Venice Film Festival's top award.
"I can tell you he has been doing very well, he has been making us laugh," Anderson told a news conference to promote the film.
"When he is ready he's going to speak for himself much better than any of us could," the director said, asking that the actor's privacy be respected.
Wilson and Anderson have worked together for over a decade, in pictures including "The Royal Tenenbaums." Wilson is also known for appearing in recent hits such as "Wedding Crashers."
The 38-year-old Wilson was taken by ambulance to a hospital after police responded to a call about a suicide attempt at his Santa Monica home. The day after he was hospitalized, he issued a statement asking for privacy so he could "receive care and heal."
In "Darjeeling," Wilson plays a distraught man _ bandaged throughout the film _ who other characters imply has attempted suicide.
Wilson plays one of three brothers who haven't said a word to each other in a year and who take a train journey across India in an attempt to find themselves and their relationship again.
Adrien Brody, who plays one of the brothers, described how it was to work with Wilson on the set.
"Owen has a tremendous sense of humor and he's very mischievous," Brody told the news conference. "I would say it was a brotherly thing."
The movie also stars Jason Schwartzman, Anjelica Huston and Bill Murray.
After being hospitalized, Wilson dropped out of the upcoming DreamWorks movie, "Tropic Thunder," which was already in production in Hawaii.

DanRad is making publicity for his new movie: December Boys. The video belongs to an MTV interview that includes him talking about the movie and some clips. Also, according to this article, the movie has received one of the prestigious Australian Writers Guild (AWG) awards: "December Boys, starring Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe, received the other top award of the night for Feature Film Adaptation, for scriptwriter Marc Rosenberg"
He was also in the Today Show, where he also talked about Equus in Broadway, next year. The video for this interview can be viewed here. He'll be in Regis&Kelly, tomorrow.
And in a recent study by The Hollywood Reporter, he has been named one of this summer's hottest stars, alongside co-star Emma Watson:
"The teens in the survey chose Zac Efron as the hottest male movie star of the summer, followed by Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Shia LaBeouf and Daniel Radcliffe. The hottest female movie star of the summer was Jessica Alba, followed by Jessica Biel, Keira Knightley, Megan Fox and Emma Watson."

Pete Doherty was with Amy Winehouse on the night she almost died, it has been reported.
The troubled Babyshambles rocker reportedly fled the scene when Amy was rushed to hospital after a drugs overdose last month.
A source told Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper: "They had a meal and a few drinks. They took a cocktail of drugs called a speedball, it's a mixture of heroin and cocaine. Amy couldn't take it, she is very lucky to be alive.
"She collapsed when they went back to her flat. Pete left because he didn't want any bad publicity. He didn't know how to deal with it and thought she was dying. She was foaming at the mouth and fitting - Pete had never seen anything like it."
Amy and Pete were introduced by mutual friends last year and have been seen drinking together in Camden pub The Hawley Arms, in north London.
They allegedly spent the night together six months ago, while Pete was still dating Kate Moss, but Pete refuses to reveal what happened.
A friend said: "Pete said he wanted to see Amy because she was all alone in her flat. They were in there for hours. I knew something happened between them when I spoke to him the next morning. He wouldn't confirm he had sex with her, but he didn't deny it either."
The pair remained friends after Amy married Blake Civil-Fielder in June and the trio have reportedly regularly used heroin together.
Meanwhile, shocking photographs of Amy and Blake holidaying in the Caribbean seemingly show the singer is still using heroin.
Amy, 23, is seen lounging on a beach with fresh red sores on her arms, a tell-tale sign she is injecting the drug.
Her father-in-law Giles Civil has confirmed the tracks on her arms are new.
Giles said: "When Amy showed us her body before she went on holiday there were no suspicious marks in the joint of her elbow. There was no bruising of any kind. They have been in St. Lucia for six days and the bruising looks around two or three days old. If they are injecting they are on the road to hell. If you want to avoid drugs, you don't go to the Caribbean."
Amy's father Mitch is reportedly so worried, he planned to kidnap her to get her clean and fears the pair won't get help until they reach "rock bottom".
The hotel heiress, who recently served 23 days in jail for driving with a suspended licence, is to appear in a London stage version of cult Australian TV show Prisoner: Cell Block H.
A source said: "Everyone is very excited.
"There was a real buzz around the show when we thought we would get some well-known Australian soap actors but Paris is a major coup.
"The casting agents never thought she'd be interested, but before meeting with the directors she researched the show by watching DVDs of the original series.
"She absolutely loved it and thought it was brilliantly camp."
Paris, who is said to have been keen to tread the boards in the West End for some time, is to star as an inmate in the production set in a women-only prison.
It is believed her character will be involved in a lesbian romp.
The source added: "Paris is keen to stretch herself as an actress so she's happy to kiss another girl for the audience and actually thinks it'll be fun to play a lesbian.
"She'll also get to stretch her vocal chords and she loves that."
If Paris does appear in the West End it will be just the latest addition to her growing list of talents.
She has previously starred in a number of films, including House of Wax, released a signature perfume, recorded a pop album, designed her own clothing range, appeared in an adult film and starred in her own reality TV show The Simple Life.
Vanessa wore another stunning strapless floor-grazing gown with a wild floral print while Zac wore his pride for London with a navy jacket with a UK flag inner-lining.
Zac, 19, recently told People he can’t remember the first time kissing Vanessa, 18.
“I truly didn’t realize that there was not a kiss. It never stuck out to me,” he says.
V recalls there was a kiss, but “on the cheek [and] that’s as far as we got.”
“You guys, your memories are failing you,” director/choreographer Kenny Ortega said Friday at a press conference in London to promote High School Musical 2. “I went to their parents and asked for permission. I went to Vanessa’s mom first, and then to Zac’s mom second and said, ‘Do you mind if I request a kiss in the event that we want to use it for the end of the film?’ And we did it. Then, we all sort of decided that this wasn’t about that.”
“You seemed to enjoy it though,” Ortega said to Zac, who blushed but didn’t deny the comment. (The kiss never made the cut for the first film.)

Brad Pitt has confirmed he has a special place in his heart for gay stories, during publicity for the release of his new film, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
Answering questions from critics at the Venice Film Festival, where the film opened, Pitt appeared temporarily stunned when asked if the tale - a western - was actually a gay drama about the relationship between two men.
"If that's what works for you, it's absolutely fine," he replied.
"You can interpret it as you will but it's actually much more complex.
"I do love a gay story though."
The admission came as Pitt suffered at the hands of attending photographers.
He refused to act on repeated calls from the photographers to take off his sunglasses and the mutual irritation grew so great members of the media decided to take action.
Photographers booed the A-list Hollywood star and then staged a walk-out, suddenly turning their backs on one of the most photographed men on Earth.
But the day also allowed Pitt to tell the world how much he was enjoying fatherhood.
"It's the most fun I've ever had and also the biggest pain in the ass I've ever experienced," he said.
"I love it and can't recommend it any more highly -- although sleep is non-existent.''
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were the star attraction today at the 33rd Deauville American Film Festival.
