Audrey Tautou will star as Coco Chanel in a $15 million biopic about the legendary French fashion designer.
Anne Fontaine will helm the yet to be titled pic, with French shingles Haut et Court and Cine @ producing. Films Distribution is handling international sales. The film, which will focus on Chanel's childhood and early womanhood, was specially conceived with Tautou in mind, said Haut et Court's Caroline Benjo."Anne said she would only make a film about Chanel if Audrey was in the lead. They met and both liked the idea."Script, penned by Fontaine and Christopher Hampton, who is also creative consultant, was freely adapted from the Chanel biography "L'Irreguliere" by Edmonde Charles-Roux.Pic is slated to shoot early in 2008. A French thesp will play Etienne Balsan and an A-list Brit actor is being sought to play Englishman Arthur "Boy" Capel, two men in Chanel's life when she was still a young unknown. Said Benjo: "It isn't really a biopic because it is about Chanel before she became famous, it is about the events and people that shaped her." The woman who invented French chic was born into poverty as Gabrielle Chanel, the illegitimate daughter of a traveling salesman, in 1883. After the death of her mother and abandonment by her father she spent seven years in a Catholic orphanage, where she learned to sew. But fashion wasn't her first career choice. As a young woman, Chanel had ambitions to be a singer and it was while warbling "Who's Seen Coco in the Trocadero" in a cabaret that she acquired the nickname Coco. While working as a cabaret singer, she also took to sewing the stage clothes for the likes of French cabaret star Mistinguette before being taken under the wing wealthy Balsan. His chateau became Chanel's home and her gateway to a new life. Balsan introduced her to Capel, who played a crucial role in Chanel's rise to fashion fame and fortune. There are two other French Chanel project the works. William Friedkin will helm one focused on the fashion diva's relationship with Stravinsky, with "Lady Chatterley" thesp Marina Hands playing Chanel. Daniele Thompson is also writing a Chanel project. Review by Peter Bradshaw
Friday May 18, 2007, in The Guardian
The Brits may not be in the official competition at Cannes, but a British film has certainly scored a sensational success here, opening the director's fortnight sidebar. Anton Corbijn's Control is about the troubled life and times of post-punk legend Ian Curtis, the lead singer of Joy Division, who killed himself in 1980 at the age of 23, depressed by his epilepsy, his failing marriage and by the uncontrollable intensity of the nihilistic emotions displaced by his life into his art - emotions that consumed him.
Corbijn's movie is shot in a stunning high-contrast monochrome, perversely turning Macclesfield's grimness into grandeur. It effortlessly revives a British cinematic style that you might call beautiful realism, reaching back to Christopher Petit's Radio On, and further back to Tony Richardson's The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner and A Taste of Honey. And in fact Ian Curtis's working-class married life, with its pram on the step and the stark laundry hanger in the kitchen, looks straight out of the 1960s. Sam Riley gives a superb performance as Ian Curtis, intuitively recreating his on-stage mannerisms, from the stock-still hunch over the mic, with eyelids lowered, to the crazy, elbows akimbo running on the spot routine, which like nothing else made him look like some sort of visionary outpatient.
Samantha Morton gives an intelligent, sympathetic performance as Curtis's wife, Debbie, whom he married when they were both in their teens, as virtually child-bride and groom, and Toby Kebbell is outstanding as Rob Gretton, the wisecracking manager.
Riley sees Curtis not as a self-destructive gloom-monger but a thwarted Wordsworthian romantic who loved two women equally, and simultaneously feared and longed for a loss of control: an escape into music and an escape from his body. Corbijn does not indulge in the cliche of seeing epilepsy as an ecstatic state, but certainly suggests how the convulsiveness and jittery subversion of Curtis's music might imitate a pre-epileptic state: culminating in a full-blown episode live on stage.
To men of a certain age (and I admit I am one) the period music detail of this movie makes it a very powerful madeleine, and when John Cooper Clarke came on, I pretty well levitated out of my seat with happiness.
The gentleness and wit with which Corbijn recreates Curtis's uncool day job in the unemployment benefit office are also a treat. It is in a way comparable to Michael Winterbottom's 24-Hour Party People, in which Riley incidentally played Mark E Smith, but far fiercer, and bleaker, and darker. Control gripped the audience at Cannes; it had atmosphere.
Amy Lee: i've got a new ring & now you've got the scoop.
Hey guys. Wow, there is so much to say, I don't know where to start. First of all, and most importantly, I am now officially Mrs. Amy Hartzler! Josh and I are married, and it is the most incredible thing to happen in my life so far (and I've seen some pretty incredible stuff). We just got back from our beautiful, remote honeymoon 2 days ago, and unfortunatley discovered that the fact that I was unable to defend myself for a week was taken advantage of quite a bit.

After stepping out in New York City last month, Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson were back in action on the opposite coast Monday night, catching the Damnwells' show at the Troubadour in West Hollywood.
Reynolds, 30, and Johansson, 22, arrived separately, an observer tells PEOPLE, and greeted each other with a hug and a kiss on the lips.
"In the foyer they were talking and had their hands all over each other," says the source. "He kissed her a couple more times in the club. He was totally sweet. She went to the restroom and he went to check up on her."
The pair watched the show with the rest of the crowd, although the witness says fellow concertgoers recognized them: "You can't help but recognize him because he's tall. She had a hat on and was so tiny."
After the show, they hung out at the club for a while before they called it a night – after Reynolds poked his head outside to check for paparazzi – and left, hand in hand.
Johansson and Reynolds (who ended his engagement to Alanis Morissette in February) spent Easter weekend together in Manhattan, where an observer at one restaurant noted: "They were a cute couple!"
LOS ANGELES — The most important rule for continued success in Hollywood is simple: Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
It would seem that somebody forgot to tell MTV.
"Super Sweet 16: The Movie," a fictionalized film version of the network's hit TV show "My Super Sweet 16," actually mocks the girls at the center of the show — then gives them a surprise lesson in morality.

Lindsay Lohan was loading up on the freebies at the Lucky Club’s Gifting and Hospitality suite at New York’s Ritz Carlton hotel — where celebs and other bold-face names can get “gifts” from high-profile retailers looking to have the A-list toting around their products.
Onlookers went a little slack-jawed as vendors from L.A.M.B., Milk and Lia Sophia “had to make many quick runs back to their stock room to make sure Lohan had enough of their (products)” according to a source, who says that the highly-paid actress stocked up on extra pairs of free sunglasses.
Lohan also picked up a gizmo called the Polaroid Media Back Up, which stores digital photos.
“Lindsay said she had too many priceless photos from traveling that she was afraid to lose,” says the source, who adds that the “Mean Girls” star “graciously thanked” the Polaroid folks.

EXCLUSIVE: STAR PULLS TWO BEAUTIES.. AS DOES BLUNT AT THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL
Jude Law has done Hugh Hefner proud. The Breaking And Entering hunk stumbled into a hotel lift at 5.30am yesterday with two scantily-clad blondes he'd picked up at a Playboy party.
The Hollywood heart-throb was spotted being propped up by his latest admirers after wooing them during a 10-hour bender in Cannes.
And the 33-year-old, whose turbulent three-year relationship with actress Sienna Miller ended last November, had an A-list pulling partner... singing swordsman James Blunt.
Not to be outdone, the Beautiful crooner also pulled two bra-clad Pink Paradise pin-ups on the night.
Our spy at the Playboy Legacy Collection bash, held in the VIP Room club in honour of serial Playmate Pamela Anderson, tells us: "It was really wild.
"Jude and James actually had their arms around two blondes each for most of the party. By the end of the night they were both getting very close to the girls.
"Jude's hands were wandering and he just couldn't stop smiling. Both he and James looked like they were in heaven."
It's little wonder that Jude and James were in such high spirits - their bar tab came to £2,000.
They splashed out on a Methuselah of Veuve Clicquot champagne and bottles of Grey Goose vodka.
"Jude and James were trying to have a chat," we're told.
"But they'd had so much to drink they couldn't understand each other...
"So instead they went back to canoodling with the girls.
"Jude was up and dancing a lot, and cigarettes were dangling from his lips.
"He shared his fags with James and the women, and he was waving his hands in the air like a teenage raver."
They didn't leave until 5am and later Jude was spotted getting into the lift at the Hotel Martinez, where he has a £685 per night suite, with two of the blondes.
James, meanwhile, also left the party with two babes.
He obviously didn't want to say Goodbye My Lover to either of them...

As the headlines about you changed -- to scream "imprisoned" and "U.S. marshals" instead of "filmmaker" and "entrepreneur," you respond by crying, wailing and seeing yourself as a victim. Bad move. Today's headlines call you a "crybaby."
You blew it, Joe. Instead of jumping from party to party, you're being shuffled from one prison to another. And no one feels sorry for you. The flatterers and entourages have moved on. They have short attention spans. They're hanging on to someone else and will take advantage of the new "temp celebrity" as long as it lasts.
The only redeeming factor is reading that you have been calling home every day from prison. When things are looking bleak, it sounds like you've found that you can get some perspective from the reliable people at home. Maybe you're realizing these are the only people who really care about you.
Your world has changed, and you're the poster boy for what can happen when boys go wild. Your every move and every emotion are still being reported, but not the way you want. It's time for some dignity. At least it might prevent you from being forever defined as a crybaby.

Tania Derveaux is ready to give out 40,000 blowjobs to men that vote for her in the next Belgian election. Tania is currently the leading (of course) NEE party senate candidate. Tania says she will take a 500-day tour around the world and blow dudes every single day. That's about 80 dicks a day!
In order to receive a oral tongue bath from Tania you have to be 18 or older, wear a condom and Tania can deny you for any reason. She said, "We adhere to high standards of service but due to time limitations each performance can last no longer than 5 minutes."
Rules, rules, rules! Her jaw will most likely fall off by dick 200. Tania doesn't realize how much nasty wang there is out there. Trust me, I've come across some. Cheese sandwich.
The next Belgian election is June 5th and at least 40,000 votes are needed to start a political group.
That's my kind of campaign! Hey! That means Paris Hilton could run for senate in Belgium! She's probably several thousand ahead of Tania! There's a future for that twat after all!

I don't know you, I have never met you and I don't know anything about you. After reading your letter posted on the internet, my mental picture of you is of a lonely old woman living in a mansion in Holmby Hills with let's say 300 cats jumping around, some in their own feces.
I have tried to think to myself what would compel a woman such as yourself to write a letter to someone they have never met? Even worse, you are making up your mind based on headlines. I can understand you writing Paris Hilton a letter out of care because as you said in your letter, you have known her most of her life. Then again, it's sad and pathetic you had the audacity to post that letter on the internet instead of just sending it to Paris personally.
Candy, you don't know any of the facts concerning my situation. I am a hardworking, compassionate and honest person. I will prevail just as I have in the past because overcoming adversity is not only a part of the entrepreneurial experience but a part of life. You should appreciate this and know this more than anyone and I am ashamed of you for forgetting how hard it is to make it in this world and the people who would love to tear you down because you have. Sadly, it appears you have become one of those people.
Contrary to what you have said in your letter, my world has not changed. My business Girls Gone Wild is thriving and posted record sales last month. Most important, my friends and my family (I love you guys....) have stood by me. This whole situation will be over soon and I will be standing strong.
I have never played a victim but I have always been a fighter. I will ultimately prevail in the matters at hand but I am concerned that you will die a lonely and unfulfilled person playing with those cats and posting open letters to people you have never met on the internet.

Fefe Dobson is working on her second, second album. The Toronto-based pop-rock singer isn't letting little setbacks like having an album shelved and losing a record deal hold her back.
She is currently writing a new album, which she expects to have a fall release.
"At the moment, we are working towards who is most interested in the record," Dobson says of the record labels. "I'm very excited."
Dobson is working in Los Angeles with various songwriters, but has primarily been co-writing with keyboardist/singer Jon Levine, a member of soul band Philosopher Kings whose brother, Jay, worked with her on her 2003 self-titled debut.
Dobson was signed to Island Def Jam and had two hit singles, "Bye Bye Boyfriend," and "Take Me Away", and sold a respectable 300,000 copies of the album in America, and went platinum (100,000) in Canada.
For the follow-up, "Sunday Love," she worked with Tim Armstrong, Joan Jett, Cyndi Lauper, Nina Gordon, among others, and in the early 2006 actually started doing promotion for the album, but was eventually dropped by Island Def Jam.
"When you work for a year-and-a-half, two years, on a record, and it doesn't really make it out, it's like your baby and you put all this time and effort into it and it hurts," Dobson says. "It definitely hurt for a while, but instead of me sitting here and hurting for another year and a half, you have to get the ball going again and do whatever you have to do."
Dobson believes the songs she has been creating with Levine are cool and different.
"We both have this kind of vibe going on," she says. "When we wrote one song and then we started going, we were like, 'Hey we're making something new here.'"
Levine, who currently has a solo single at radio called "Hot Girls" from his forthcoming album, "Ground Tied," has a dry sense of humour, but Dobson says her disposition is rubbing off on him more.
"I'll go in the studio and he has his dark humour and it's kind of funny, and I'm always like [chirpy voice], 'Hi!" and he's crazy. So I think we work well because he's the pessimist and I'm the optimist and now he's becoming the optimist."
Dobson is finishing up some writing in Los Angeles and will return to Toronto to go into production for the new album.
As for "Sunday Love," she says, "I think it will see the light of day some day. I don't know, when I feel like it represents me, maybe I'll release it, but there's been such a gap between the first record, 'Sunday Love,' and then this record, that releasing something from 'Sunday Love' wouldn't be relevant to where I am today. My real fans have it. I think it's worming around on the internet, and those people matter a lot to me, my fans, so if my fans have it, I'm good."
Anyway I wondering what the hell was up with Sunday Love since it was supposed to be released like 2 years ago on my birthday or some shit like that. And she played some high school football game around here a while back. Didn't know about it til after she performed... but I probably would have gone. I... actually... like... her.

Michael Moore (anonymously, to a point) donates $12,000 to aid the sick wife of an anti-Moore website host. I don't like Moore myself (his "documentaries"). But it takes a lot to help someone you hate.
The star of Wedding Crashers and The Notebook claims she was born in October 1978, making her 28. But imdb.com puts her birthday in 1976—and those who've looked into the matter believe the earlier date may be accurate.
In a November 2005 profile, Details listed McAdams's age as 29, prompting her then-publicist, Ame Van Iden, to complain vigorously. (McAdams later fired Van Iden, reportedly because the flack booked her to appear nude on Vanity Fair's cover without her consent.) A Details source says the magazine agreed to run a correction only after Van Iden assured them that IMDb had been notified of its error.
As of yesterday, however, the site was still listing her as 30. When Elle wrote McAdams up for its April cover, it got around the problem by saying, "IMDb states [she] is 30, but [she] is really, truly, ask her mother, 28."
What's the truth? "Her birthday is inaccurately reported," says her rep. "She is 28 years old." But a source involved with one of her recent films says it's "no secret among the producers" that she shaves a couple years off her age in interviews—only to add them back on when she's up for a part that calls for a more "mature" actress.

Lily beating Cheryl in chart war
Lily and Cheryl's spat has boosted both their album sales
Cheryl Tweedy may have had the last word in their recent spat, but it seems that Lily Allen is triumphing in the music stakes.
The London songstress's album Alright Still is currently outselling Girls Aloud's Greatest Hits at a rate of eight to one, reports Amazon.co.uk.
The online retailer states that the public feud, reportedly fuelled by Cheryl calling Lily a "chick with a d***", appears to have done neither party any harm - sales of both albums surged on the day the rivalry was thrust into the spotlight.
Lily's album, however, has seen the greatest benefit from the war of words, with a rise in sales of almost 300 per cent.
"Girls Aloud may have the pop pedigree, but it's clear where the fans' loyalties are in this particular spat," said Julian Monaghan, Music Manager at Amazon.co.uk.
"Lily's been one of the pop success stories of the past year and her sales are far outstripping those of Girls Aloud this week - she's is certainly a chick with a hit."

Thecelebritytruth - The Olsen’s publicist, Nicole Caruso, officially denied the rumor:
“This is not true”
Personally, I think they would be great as a Moneypenny type characters in a Bond film.
Some seem to think it’s ludicrous that these "little girls" from Full House could ever be considered for adult roles but I beg to differ. They may be small in stature but Mary-Kate and Ashley are tall in experience, popularity, and talent.
They are full grown women, extremely experienced actors, tremendously popular across a broad range of demographics.
From young girls looking for positive female role models to fashion conscious women looking to stay up to date with the latest trends, to men of all ages who think they are very beautiful and desirable, these young women hit everyone’s buttons.
To put it bluntly, they sell because everyone perceives them as real. Ask anyone who has ever worked for them. They are authentic, hard working high quality actors who bring a lot to the table. If it isn’t true they were offered roles in the next Bond film then it’s their loss.
