LOS ANGELES, (July 12, 2006) - Grammy winner Kelly Clarkson will headline her first HBO concert event next February, it was announced Wednesday by Chris Albrecht, chairman and CEO of HBO.
To be presented from London's historic Wembley Arena February 3, the special will feature the singer performing her greatest hits, as well as material from herthird album, which will be released that same month.
"Kelly Clarkson is an electrifying performer who has taken the world of pop music by storm," noted Albrecht. "I'm delighted to welcome this exciting star to HBO for what promises to be an unforgettable concert event."
Texas native Kelly's second RCA Records album, "Breakaway,"has sold more than ten million copies worldwide while producing five hit singles - "Breakaway," "Since U Been Gone," "Behind These Hazel Eyes," "Because of You" and "Walk Away" - and bringing her two Grammy Awards.
Logging more than a year in Billboard magazine's Top 20, the "Breakaway" album has enjoyed multi-platinum sales around the globe, as well as winning American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards. Her 24-city "Addicted" concert tour began June 30 and is currently playing to sold-out houses around the country.
Chantal is set to release her fourth studio album, Ghost Stories, on Tuesday, August 29, 2006. The first single, "All I Can Do," is available now at iTunes Canada and Puretracks. If you're an iTunes user, make sure to leave a comment on the "All I Can Do" page to share your feelings about the song with other iTunes users!
The album is the most rhythmic work yet from Chantal. “I think that was just a reaction to the heart and passion I was putting into the songs,” she says. “The album rocks and has a lot of rhythm, which is really exciting for me. A lot of times when people become older and wiser they get more melancholy and reflective, and it shows in the tempo of their music. I didn’t want to be harnessed to any particular tempo…”
The record was co-written and produced by her husband Raine Maida. “It really is rewarding to be able to work with your best friend/partner,” she reveals. “It’s something you can’t recreate with someone that you are just starting a relationship with. We always know that anything we do to/with/for each other comes from a place of positivity and that ultimately helps us make the very best music together.”
Keep an eye on Chantal's site for a brand new design in the coming weeks. In the meantime, stop by the splash page to read letters from Chantal and to look at footage and photos from the studio, and head over to MySpace for Chantal's blog.

RALEIGH, N.C. - While still surprised by his early exit from “American Idol,” Chris Daughtry said Wednesday his fourth-place finish might be better than winning the show’s grand prize.
“I’m in a better position for myself — knowing that I’m going to be able to do what I wanted to do as an artist,” Daughtry, 26, said in a phone interview with The Associated Press.
While many observers billed Daughtry as the favorite to win “Idol,” the raw-voiced rocker was voted off the show a few weeks before its finale. Southern soul singer Taylor Hicks took the competition’s top award — a $1 million recording contract.
But earlier this week, RCA Records announced Daughtry had signed to work alongside music mogul Clive Davis, with plans to produce a record by the end of the year. While Hicks and other performers will also record with Davis, Daughtry indicated he has the freedom to pursue his own style. He said fans should expect songs laced with “solid rock.”
“This won’t be a pop album,” he said.

Kasey Rogers, an actress who was a regular on television shows like "Bewitched" but was best known for an appearance in Alfred Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train," has died. She was 80.
Rogers died July 6 at USC University Hospital from a stroke, said her companion, Mark Wood.
Using the name Laura Elliott, Rogers played Farley Granger's estranged wife, Miriam, who is strangled by the psychotic character in "Strangers on a Train."
"For decades, no one realized Laura Elliott and Kasey Rogers were the same woman," Wood told The Los Angeles Times. "All of a sudden, Hitchcock fans were coming out of the woodwork. They wanted to know what happened to Laura Elliott."
Born Imogene Rogers on Dec. 15, 1925, in Morehouse, Mo., Rogers moved with her family to Burbank as a child. She earned the nickname Casey, a reference to "Casey at the bat," because of her hitting prowess in grade-school baseball. Later she changed the C to a K.
Rogers played leads in junior high school and high school plays. She was spotted by a talent agent, leading to a screen test and contract at Paramount during the late 1940s and early '50s.
Among her films are "Special Agent," "Denver and Rio Grande," "Silver City" and "Two Lost Worlds."
On television, she appeared in numerous series, including "Wanted: Dead or Alive," "Bat Masterson," "Cheyenne," "Maverick," "Perry Mason," "77 Sunset Strip," "Adam-12" and "Bewitched."
Twice married and divorced, Rogers is survived by her brother, four children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held Friday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, in the Hollywood Hills.

TMZ cites Us and reports that baby Suri was witnessed by a natural-goods store employee in Telluride, Colo., where a vacationing Holmes was recently photographed.
According to the clerk that spotted her, Suri is "funny-looking." What - they don't have camera phones in Telluride?
It almost sounds like a 'Bigfoot' spotting but at least we had old 8mm footage of that.
On the visit - the fabulous Katie Holmes did some window shopping and she was photographed sipping coffee.
“Suri’s doing great!” Holmes told Us Weekly before hopping into the passenger seat of her blue Hummer H3 and heading home. “She’s back at the house.”
Meanwhile TMZ is working overtime and has put together a fabulous pre-Suri and post-Suri pictorial of Katie along with detailed information on the timeline.
We are now at 87 days and counting and there seems to be no stalling of the conspiracy theories that surround the infant. AP even called it the "Shroud of secrecy around Suri."
New rumors surface by the hour -- that Tom and Katie are holding out for a better magazine photo deal, that Scientology is involved in the mystery, that Suri doesn't even exist, the staff writes.
TMZ has created a timeline that may explain why Suri is becoming a national obsession and the pictures and timeline are here.

Shockingly, people actually pay KFed to represent their brands. As reported on celebrity nation, Kevin Federline's new money-making venture involves pimping himself out for hire, and he allegedly charges up to $20,000 for cameo appearances at events. Not so shocking - his new gig reportedly has his wife's seal of approval (she must get tired of dishing out that credit card to cover his ass). According to In Touch Weekly, KFed earned $250,000 for endorsing Blue Marlin clothing and $25,000 for appearing at Virgin Mobile's Save the Penny campaign. The magazine also says that a line of jeans and beach jewelry are on KFed's list of things to do.

Charges Dropped Against Celeb Photographer
LOS ANGELES Jul 13, 2006 (AP)— Prosecutors will not file trespassing charges against a photographer arrested outside a Malibu preschool that Angelina Jolie's adopted son was attending.
There was insufficient evidence to prove that Clint Brewer stepped on school property while trying to photograph 4-year-old Maddox Jolie-Pitt, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.
Brewer, 25, was arrested June 22 after he was seen hiding in bushes and photographing the church-based preschool, authorities said.
His arrest came about two weeks after Jolie and her partner, Brad Pitt, returned to Malibu from Namibia, where she gave birth to their daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt.
The couple have two older children, 18-month-old Zahara, adopted from Ethiopia, and Maddox, adopted from Cambodia.
Both Maddox and Zahara's surnames were legally changed to Jolie-Pitt after Pitt announced his intention to adopt the children.

Although the track list has yet to be revealed, other songs expected to make the final cut include "Read My Mind," "Bones," "Uncle Johnny Did Cocaine" and the title cut.
The new album is the follow-up to the Killers' 2004 debut, "Hot Fuss," which has sold more than 3 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
"We're trying to strip it down a little bit," lead singer Brandon Flowers previously told Billboard.com of the new material. "Not have it be so busy. Just let it breathe and let it be a great song. We wrote some great songs on the first one, but these have more of a classic feel."

July 13. To all onlookers Shawn "Jay Z" Carter is on top of the world. He's a platinum selling artist, he's dating the lovely Beyonce Knowles, and he's the president of a major record label. But for years he's been living with a secret that's been haunting him - the fact that his mother is a lesbian. And according to industry insiders, he's paranoid that the secret will come out.
MediaTakeOut.com spoke with a person close to Jay-Z who tells of the lengths that Jay Z has gone to protect his secret. According to the insider, Jay Z has been frantically hiding his mother's gay lifestyle for years. The insider tells us that Jay Z, "has paid a lot of people to keep quiet about it", saying, "and if Jay knew that I were telling you this, I'd be blacklisted from the music industry." The insider explained, "the last thing that Jay Z wants is for someone like Cam'ron to find out and talk about his mother on a diss record."
And the fear of having his mother's secret life exposed has led him to make some startling business decisions. MediaTakeOut.com spoke exclusively to one of the hottest young female rappers, Lucy Diamonds (Lucy Diamond's myspace page). Lucy claims that the Def Jam president didn't sign her to a record contract because he thought that she was a lesbian. Lucy explained, "Jay-Z doesn't want anything bi-sexual or gay to be affiliated with him because he doesn't want it to bring attention to his mother." Ironically, Lucy Diamonds is straight.
But Jay Z isn't the only rap superstar to have a gay mother. Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson's late mother was an open lesbian.
Representatives for Jay Z were not available to comment.

July 13, 2006 -- IS former big-screen everyman Chevy Chase trying to start a feud with his modern-day counterpart, Vince Vaughn? "Recently, I saw a commercial with, is it Nicole Kidman? No, no - Jennifer What's Her Name? from 'Friends,' " Chase tells Details. "And some guy. I had never seen him. I don't know who the [bleep] he is. He looks like some refrigerator repairman." (Chase was referring to a commercial for the Jennifer Aniston/Vaughn comedy, "The Break-Up.") Chase, who starred in "Caddyshack" and "Fletch," also relays a weird running joke he shares with his teenage daughter. "My youngest, who's 17, seems to be identical to the way I was in my perception of the world," he told Details. "I mean, I can remember the first time I called her a whore. We just laughed for half an hour. Because she's anything but. But she gets it immediately and laughs. I'd call her every day down at school; she might pick up and say, 'Whoretown!' She said something the other day like, 'Dad, how much should I charge?' "
The Nation -- Who in their right mind thought Al Gore could become a fashion statement?
Yeah, neither did I. But on Boston's uber-chic Newbury Street and in New York's Soho, I've already spotted numerous hipsters sporting Marc Jacobs' new Al Gore fashion line. The recently-released Al Gore t-shirts, tote bags, and trucker hats are now available at all Marc Jacobs retail stores, and they're not even that expensive (at least by Jacobs standards).
My personal favorite is the red "Al, Save Us" tee (click on "special items" to see them). There's also an "Al For President" shirt.
Hipsters aren't the only ones who want him to run. Today AlterNet released the results of its online straw poll in which 13,000 participated. Gore blew away his opponents, with 35 percent of the vote; Feingold was next with 20 percent.
I'm still in the camp that believes Gore is best doing exactly what he's doing, raising hell outside of the Beltway. But there's no denying that his grassroots support is tremendous right now. Even in Soho.

Chad Lowe is furious with estranged wife Hilary Swank after she detailed his substance abuse problem to the world in a Vanity Fair magazine article.
Swank made the shocking revelation in the August issue of the magazine and claims Lowe's problem contributed to the breakdown of their marriage.
A source close to Lowe tells Us Weekly, "Chad was pretty surprised that Hilary would bring (his problem) into the equation."
Swank didn't specify the exact nature of Lowe's substance abuse problem, but the actor is now sober.
Another source adds, "Chad has been sober for three years. He isn't ashamed of his struggle, but he really wishes Hilary wouldn't have talked publicly now."
Family friend Bob Balaban says, "Whatever problem he might have had didn't affect his work."
Swank's lawyers insist she warned Lowe about what she had revealed to the magazine and that she did not make the claims in an effort to land the magazine's cover to publicize her new films.

The Who Plan First World Tour in Decades
Legendary British rock band The Who will launch its first worldwide tour in more than 20 years in September and is set to release its first studio album since 1982, the group announced on Thursday.
Singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist/songwriter Pete Townshend, the surviving members of the hard-driving British foursome that burst onto the music scene in 1965, will open the tour on September 12 in Philadelphia and perform across the United States and Canada into December.
Early next year, the group will tour South America for the first time before heading for East Asia and Europe .
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members will be joined by John "Rabbit" Bundrick on keyboards, Pino Palladino on bass, Zak Starkey, son of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr , on drums and Townshend's younger brother, Simon, on guitar and backing vocals.
At a press conference in New York via satellite from Berlin, Daltrey, 62, and Townshend, 61, said they had tried to record and possibly tour in recent years. But plans were derailed in large part by the drug-related death of bass player and original member John Entwistle in 2002.
"When The Who stopped making records in 1982, I felt I just couldn't do it anymore. ... It almost destroyed me. It destroyed one of the members of our band," Townshend said, referring to the 1978 drug- and alcohol-related death of original drummer Keith Moon .
Daltrey said Entwistle's death had altered the band's balance.
"Pete and I were two opposite ends of the globe, if you like, and John was the equator. It doesn't matter that it's taken 25 years -- however long it takes as long as it's good. And it is good."
PLENTY OF MATERIAL
Townshend, put on a sex offender list in 2003 despite being cleared of Internet child pornography charges after visiting a Web site for research purposes, said the delay in resuming studio recording and touring was not due to a lack of material.
"I could have put material together for what we would have called a Who record at any time," he said. "I've written about 450 songs and produced around 1,400 pieces of music since The Who stopped recording."
Townshend said the long delay stemmed partly from the difficulties of organizing a world tour. But he said the prodding of his teen-age son helped keep things moving.
"I had a son in 1989, that's why I'm here. He wants to come and see The Who at rock festivals," he said.
In addition to performing songs from the tentatively titled "Who 2" set for release on October 23, the band will draw on decades of hits like "Behind Blue Eyes," "I Can't Explain" and "Who Are You."
They are also exploring doing cuts from "Wire & Glass," a "mini-opera" that Townshend said is loosely based on a play he wrote for radio.
While The Who's early songs portrayed the disillusioned youth of the mid- to late 1960s, the most quoted line from their catalog probably being "I hope I die before I get old," from 1965's "My Generation," Townshend played down the notion that he was a spokesman for his generation.
"We weren't speaking for our audience, our audience was telling us what to say. My songs are your songs," he said, adding that the same holds true today.
"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss, and that boss is you," Townshend said, referring to the final line of the band's rock anthem "Won't Get Fooled Again."
