Chantelle hopes she will wed Preston this year

Celebrity Big Brother winner Chantelle Houghton has announced her engagement to fellow ex-housemate Preston Samuel.
The couple met on the Channel 4 series in January when she was planted as a "fake celebrity" ordered to convince the housemates she was famous.

She said Preston, lead singer with the Ordinary Boys, had given her his mother's ring.

The Essex model, 22, announced the engagement at the New Woman Beauty Awards at London's Dorchester Hotel.

"It was as much unexpected for me as it was for him," she said.

"He asked for his mum to send the ring over and he asked me.

"I just want to marry him.

The ring belonged to Preston's mother

"I've had a really long day today but I don't feel tired and I'm just dying to get home to see him."

She said she had already told friends and family: "I rang my mum and everyone and we went to get a bottle of champagne and we celebrated."

She added that she was on "cloud nine" and hoped they would marry later this year. She did not say how the singer had proposed.

The couple's on-screen chemistry was the subject of speculation during the Celebrity Big Brother series - despite the existence of Preston's now ex-girlfriend, Camille Aznar.

It's been awhile since we've seen these two lovebirds, but they managed to pop up at the Antik Denim Fall 2006 Fashion Show at Smashbox Studios in LA on Tuesday.

The couple will be married this year in the second season of My Fair Brady on VH 1.

Recently, when asked how the couple's wedding plans were proceeding, Chris said:

"Slowly, because we didn't have enough time to really do this. We thought we'd have a moderately sized wedding, but this thing has ballooned. It's a huge wedding. Plus, it's an out-of-town wedding. It's back where she's from. I feel like every moment I should be doing something."

Adrianne is from Joliet, Illinois.

FRANKLIN — There was a star in the sanctuary yesterday morning at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens.



But Star Jones Reynolds, co-host of the daytime talk show "The View," was quick to say it wasn't her.

It was God, she told hundreds of churchgoers who attended the packed 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Palm Sunday services.

"The reason I can smile and walk around here and wave is because of three things: I'm saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Spirit. And the devil can't do nothing about it," she said, holding the small Bible she always carries with her.

A wave of "amens" washed over the congregation as Jones Reynolds continued.

"See, where I come from, I'm not supposed to be where I am. . . . I am the living, breathing example of what God can do for you if you only trust in him."

Dressed in a purple suit with a fur collar, Jones Reynolds spoke to the congregation about her life's journey — including her Christian upbringing in Trenton and Badin, N.C., her search for self-love and romantic love, her weight loss and her unwavering confidence in the face of negativity.

"I've experienced it all," she said before leaving the pulpit. "In three years, I've seen it all. Talk about being blessed in the presence of your enemies."

After the services, she posed for photos and signed copies of her new book "Shine," which was released in January. The book is about her physical, emotional and spiritual journey to finding love.

"You can't see this on "The View,' " the Rev. DeForest B. Soaries Jr., senior pastor, joked.

Soaries said he met Jones Reynolds and her family during his days as an assistant pastor at Shiloh Baptist Church in Trenton.

Seeing Jones Reynolds now, as a television celebrity, makes him proud, he said.

"This is an opportunity to celebrate someone who is both successful and healthy," he said. "People can learn from her because nobody needs to feel stuck in life. We all have the potential to overcome obstacles, especially if we let God's message be our guide."

Jones Reynolds, 44, echoed that sentiment throughout her testimony — which included a reading of Psalm 37, one of her favorite Bible passages — and in her miniconversations with churchgoers.

With loose curls draped over her shoulder, the former prosecutor sat in the church's welcome room and greeted congregants with a smile.

She signed "Shine on" in their books and said "God bless you" as they walked away.

"Good morning," Jones Reynolds said to Ingrid Gordon, the first person in a line that snaked through the church's lobby.

Too nervous, Gordon could barely speak. "Keep on doing what you're doing," the 40-year-old Parlin woman eventually blurted out before bouncing from the room.

Excited churchgoers continued to heap praise on Jones Reynolds, telling her what an inspiration she is and wishing her the best.

Helen Daniels of New Brunswick, who'll be 75 years old this month, clutched four books close to her body — one for herself and the other three for her co-workers and friends.

"I just love to watch her on TV because she's real," Daniels said. "I started reading the book a while ago, and I love it. It talks about good places to shop, and boy, I love to shop."

While Daniels learned about the best places to get a great deal, 25-year-old Terri Gibson of Somerset learned about love, she said.

"I was listening to her story about her relationship with her husband, Al," said Gibson, who used her camera phone to snap a photo of Jones Reynolds. "It's amazing, and I want to learn from that."

Jones Reynolds said she's still learning — about life, about love, about herself.

But she knows one thing for sure: She's blessed beyond belief.

Jailed "Survivor" winner Richard Hatch is being held in protective custody apart from other inmates until his sentencing this month on tax evasion charges.

Hatch, who won $1 million in the debut season of the CBS reality series, was found guilty in January of failing to pay taxes on his winnings and other income. He was taken into custody immediately because U.S. District Court Judge Ernest Torres said he posed a flight risk.

Hatch, 45, asked to be put in protective custody shortly after he was detained, his attorney, Michael Minns, said Monday. Hatch is being held at a jail in Plymouth, Mass., until his sentencing April 25.

Charles Wyant, a supervisory deputy U.S. marshal, said Hatch was placed in protective custody because he's a celebrity. Any prisoner can make such a request.

"The situation he's in is the best possible position for him to be in at this point in time, the safest and most secure," Wyant said.

As a matter of policy, all prisoners spend their first three days at the jail in solitary confinement with one hour a day of recreation, Wyant said. After that, they are usually moved into the general population, but Hatch is being held separately, he said.

The charges carry a maximum of 13 years in prison. Torres said he expected a sentence of between two years, nine months and three years, five months, but it could be longer because prosecutors accuse Hatch of lying during his testimony.

Katie Holmes has been banned from speaking to her baby for a week after it is born, it has been reported.

The pregnant actress has agreed not to talk to her new arrival, believed to be a girl, for at least seven days after she has entered the world, in accordance with fiance Tom Cruise's Scientology beliefs.

Katie, who is due to give birth any day, has already promised Tom she will deliver the child in complete silence, and she will also have very little contact afterwards.

Britney Spears's six-month-old son, Sean Preston, fell and hit his head on Saturday, April 1, at the Malibu home the pop star shares with husband Kevin Federline, a source close to Spears tells PEOPLE.

While the baby's nanny was lifting him from his high chair, something snapped in the chair and Sean Preston slipped from her arms and fell to the floor, bruising his head.

A doctor came to the house that day and examined the child; he seemed fine.

But six days later, Spears and Federline became concerned and took Sean Preston to Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center to have him checked out, the source adds. No serious problems were found.

Spears, Federline and their son are back home and doing fine now, a second source tells PEOPLE.

After the hospital visit, child welfare officials visited Spears's home accompanied by a sheriff's deputy.



The Department of Children and Family Services called us on Saturday (April 8) and asked us to accompany them to the home of Mrs. Spears for their visit," Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokeswoman Lt. Debra Glafkides tells PEOPLE. "It's very routine and common for us to accompany them."

According to Glafkides, the visit lasted about half an hour and no police report was filed.

The Sheriff's Department could not release any further information, and the Department of Children and Family Services generally does not comment on cases due to confidentiality laws.

"While there was an automatic report by the hospital to the Department of Children and Family Services, DCFS immediately responded and determined there was no problem and no reason to open a formal investigation," Spears's attorney Marty Singer tells PEOPLE. "They determined that the parents were not involved in any injury and that nothing improper was done within the home."

Detroit rapper Proof was shot and killed after he pistol whipped and shot a 35-year-old Detroit man in a club operating illegally after hours, Detroit police said Wednesday.

Keith Bender Jr. remained in critical condition Wednesday.

Proof, whose real name is Deshaun Holton, was shot up to four times in the head and chest by another man at the club, police said. His autopsy was being conducted by Wayne County medical examiners Wednesday.

Detroit Sgt. Omar Feliciano said both victims were shot inside the C.C.C. club, a licensed bar that was illegally selling alcohol at 4:30 a.m. — more than two hours after it’s required to shut down by state law.

A dozen shell casings were also found outside the club, but police didn’t yet know if they were related to the shooting incident.

Proof has a history of run-ins with police — including an arrest in 2004 for assault by Dearborn police. He was acquitted in 2003 on a Detroit charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

1. The lead story on CNN.com between 1:00 and 1:30 a.m. ET on April 10, 2006 was immigration (I have a copy of a screen grab, courtesy of CNN.com I would be happy to provide your site for proof).

2. CNN Pipeline, CNN.com's premium live video news service, streams CNN International during the hours of 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. ET. In the CNN Pipeline window on this screen grab, it claims "LIVE: Breaking News -- President Bush makes comments at the White House on economic issues." Snakes on a Plane: It's a blog, it's a cult, it's a movie

It's a movie that has inspired countless fan-created works and buzz the world over, reaching the heights of hype typically achieved by sequels that include the words Star Wars or Lord of the Rings.

Is it the upcoming Harry Potter flick? The relaunch of Superman? The far-off Spider-Man sequel? No, no, no.

It's Snakes on a Plane. Yes, you read that correctly.

Can a film contain a plot spoiler in its own name? When it's called Snakes on a Plane, it can. (See also The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Kill Bill, Titanic). The title says it all. It even translates well in Spanish: Serpientes en un Plano.

Despite a release date that's five months away, and with -- amazingly -- little studio prodding, Snakes on a Plane chatter has slithered around the Internet, sparking Photoshop contests playing off the film's name, song parodies and even a cross between the movie and the numbers game Sudoku.


How to explain how a movie with no built-in cult following -- no namesake comic book, no J.K. Rowling or J.R.R. Tolkien source material, no characters named Skywalker -- has become one of those only-on-the-Internet pop-cultural phenomena? We can guess.

Comedian David Spade has rubbished reports he is dating actress Heather Locklear, insisting the two are just friends.

Locklear announced she was splitting from husband Richie Sambora earlier this year and media reports had linked the former "Melrose Place" star to the comedian.

Spade hosts "The Showbiz Show" on the Comedy Central network and Locklear stopped by a party to wish him well.

He explains, "My show had a party and she came by and that turned into all this.

"She came by and sat next to me, which was nice of her. She is a pretty girl and sweet, but that turned into a little bit of a situation.

Last Thursday, Us Weekly reports that our beloved Lindsay Morgan Lohan almost pulled out Jessica Simpson's extensions and made her eat her fake lips. Almost!

It seems that La Lohan sent some booze as a gift to Simpson, who was seated at a table with her These Boots Are Made for Walkin' director and notorious pussyhound Brett Ratner.

When Jessica failed to thank Lohan, our girl went up to Simpson's table and confronted the blonde bimbo, screaming, "What's the matter? When your sister is around, you can talk shit about me, but now that Ashlee's not here, what are you going to do? C'mon! I'm 19 and you're 25. Say something, you coward!'"

How did Jessica respond to the confrontation? According to Us Weekly, bitch broke down in tears!!!! Priceless.

'Golden Girl' Estelle Getty's Health Update

BETTY WHITE, RUE McCLANAHAN, BEA ARTHUR and ESTELLE GETTY -- aka Rose, Blanche, Dorothy and Sophia -- made waves in the late '80s as Miami retirees on TV's "The Golden Girls." But tragically, while her co-stars have gone on to appear in a variety of new projects, Estelle had to bow out due to a debilitating disease.

Now, ET has a personal letter from Estelle's caregiver, PAUL CHAPDELAINE, detailing the frail star's condition and her day-to-day life.

"First, Estelle is in good health," writes Chapdelaine. "There is nothing life threatening going on, she is comfortable, pain free and in good spirits most of the time ... She does have good days and bad days. Because of the nature of the disease that Estelle has, there are times that we have very normal lucid conversation, and other times, she just sleeps most of the day. OGDEN, Utah - An embarrassed charter school has discovered it booked the wrong Jon Stewart for its annual gala. The DaVinci Academy thought it had made a deal with comedian Jon Stewart, star of "The Daily Show" and host of this year's Academy Awards, to appear next week.

It sent out 500 invitations to businesses and planned for 900 people.

But last week, it learned that it had booked Jon A. Stewart, a former motivational speaker, businessman and part-time professional wrestler from Chicago.
