Clay Aiken Damage Control

Image hosting by TinyPic

Although the public face is business as usual and the continued statement being "no comment", the gay sex scandal surrounding the crooner has seriously rocked Team Clay. US magazine quoted an unamed pal of Aiken's, "Everyone is worried. Nobody wants to see Clay go down." Just days after Clay's alleged internet hookup, John Paulus, shared details of their tryst with the nationwide audience of Howard Stern, the official Clay Aiken website placed all Aiken merchandise on fire sale with this notice:

2-23-06 : You Asked For It & We Heard You!
Starting this weekend on February 25th, visit the fan club merch store & check
out our 1st annual "Spring Cleaning" Sale. All Clay Aiken 2005 merchandise
slashed to rock bottom prices. Some selections are limited, so don't delay!!

Facing media scrutiny and a potential FTC investigation in the US, Aiken decided to take an improptu vacation (with a lady friend of course) to Eastern Europe, blogging about his adventures to the $29.95 paying members of his official fanclub.
So what sights did the singer take in on his European Vacation while his fans breathlessly awaited news of his next CD? The New York Post reports that while in the Czech Republic the pop-star was spotted enjoying Prague's largest and best know gay club, Candyland.
Another sighting immediately followed within hours of the New York Post's report. The sighting, reported by Defamer had Aiken spotted conspicuously on March 8 lunching with 3 ladies (no men in sight) in Hollywood.

Hilary Duff in Houston at the Rodeo and insights to the lip-synching.

[firstpost..o0oh.]

So the other day I was offered free tickets to attend the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (probably the biggest event to stereotypical Texans everywhere), and i wasn't going to turn it down, even when I found out that the musical entertainment for the night was none other than Houston-native Miss Hilary Duff.
I must say though, the amount of girls in Reliant Stadium under the age of 12 was probably staggering.
ANYWAY.
I'll cut to the chase.

[apologies for the horrrrible picture quality. the rodeo has no floor seating and the stage rotates in the center of the floor of the stadium, so it does not make for good shots.]

'The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift' Trailer

Yahoo Movies has the trailer for "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," starring Lucas Black and Bow Wow and directed by Justin Lin. Here's the synopsis:

"Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) is a hot-headed, underdog street racer who runs afoul of the police. To avoid jail time, Sean is sent to live with his gruff, estranged father, a career military-man stationed in Tokyo. He finds action when a fellow American, Twinkie (Shad 'Bow Wow' Gregory Moss), introduces him to the underground world of drift racing. On his first time out drifting, Sean unknowingly takes on D.K., the "Drift King," a local champ with ties to the Japanese crime machine Yakuza. But when Sean falls for D.K.'s girlfriend, Neela, an explosive series of events is set into motion."

Yes, it has nothing to do with the other "Fast and the Furious" movies, but I have to say that if they didn't put that in the title, everyone would just say that it was a rip-off of "The Fast and the Furious" anyway. It's already got the money of every young teenage boy obsessed with cars anyway. It's already got my money because I think Lucas Black is hot, but maybe that's just me.

By the way, if you like teeny-bopper movies, I highly recommend "She's the Man." I saw it tonight, and it was hilarious!!

John Lennon seance

John Lennon

IMAGINE John Lennon spinning in his grave.

The ex-Beatle, who was murdered over 25 years ago, is the latest subject of a pay-per-view seance arranged by the producers of a 2003 attempt to contact the dead Princess Diana. That show made money but was slammed by critics as hitting a new low in television tastelessness.

"People say this is disgusting and I accept that criticism, but we're making a serious attempt to do something that many, many millions of people around the world think is possible," said Paul Sharratt, who heads Starcast Productions, which made "The Spirit of Diana." That show drew over half a million US viewers willing to pay $US14.95 to watch it.

The Lennon show will air on April 24 on a US pay-per-view channel and cost $US9.95.

Sharratt himself is a "non-believer," and admits to not being totally convinced otherwise after psychics attempted to contact the dead princess in the 2003 program. Nevertheless, it made for some great television, he said.

"I have to say that I'm a skeptic. I went into it very skeptically and I didn't come out a total believer, but it was good for a lot of people as a tribute to Diana," he said.

Sharratt said he chose Lennon because the former Beatle, like Diana, is an icon and was also a deeply spiritual person. "Lennon was very interested in the spiritual world. It's a natural follow-up to the Diana seance," he said.

The Spirit of John Lennon is being done without the knowledge or consent of John Lennon's estate. A spokesman for Yoko Ono, Lennon's widow, had no immediate comment.

Sharratt said, "We are writing to Yoko and contacting friends this week to see if any people associated with Lennon would take part."

The program will show psychics traveling to sites of significance to the former Beatle, including New York's Dakota apartment house, where he lived and was fatally shot by a deranged fan, Mark David Chapman, just over 25 years ago.

Psychics will also visit the Capitol Records Building in Los Angeles where the Beatles recorded, and a town in India where Lennon pursued a spiritual retreat.

Sharratt said the Indian sequence will feature a spirit reader at an ashram who believes he can contact Lennon to receive musical notes and lyrics from the other side.

Any notations will be flown to Los Angeles, where a composer will arrange the notes, add vocals and backgrounds to produce a new song.

The special will culminate as psychics, colleagues and confidantes sit at a seance table for 30 minutes surrounded by infra-red cameras that can capture any "presence" or spirit that enters the room.

They should have to cover up her Star Trek collar. I can't help but think she's adorable though, especially with the chimp.
Truly Outrageous

it's official...no more Neverland

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060317/ap_on_en_mu/people_jackson_neverland

LOS OLIVOS, Calif. - Michael Jackson has closed the house on his Neverland Ranch and laid off some of the employees there but has not completely shuttered the sprawling estate, the pop star's spokesman said.

"It is public knowledge that Mr. Jackson currently resides in the Middle Eastern country of Bahrain," Jackson spokeswoman Raymone K. Bain said late Thursday in a statement. "He therefore decided to close his house and reduce his work force."

The action came a day after state labor officials announced that Jackson had agreed to pay his Neverland Ranch employees hundreds of thousands of dollars in back wages, avoiding a lawsuit by the California Department of Industrial Relations.

Employees who received their back pay Thursday were told they were being laid off because the state had shut down the ranch, the syndicated television news magazine "Entertainment Tonight" reported on its Web site Thursday night.

But Bain indicated the ranch was still operating, at least on a limited basis.

"Reports indicating that Neverland has been closed or 'shut down' for good are inaccurate," she said in her statement. A call to the ranch's manager, Joe Marcus, was not immediately returned.

Bain's statement, which did not indicate what plans Jackson has for the estate's future, concluded: "There will be no further comments regarding this matter."

California labor officials issued a stop-work order for the ranch last week after learning that workers compensation insurance for the 2,600 acre estate's employees had been allowed to lapse.

The order concerned animal rights activists because it included keepers of Jackson's menagerie, which at times has included elephants and a giraffe.

However, employees were permitted to keep working if they were placed on the payroll of a third party that had workers compensation coverage, officials said, adding that was the case with the animals' caretakers.

"Security is being handled by members of the Jackson family and a local veterinarian has put the animal caregivers on his payroll," the state Department of Industrial Relations said in a statement issued earlier this week.

On the back pay issue, authorities told Jackson's representatives last week they had received complaints from at least 30 workers who had not been paid since Dec. 19 and were owed $306,000 in back wages. Jackson also was told he would have to pay about $100,000 in penalties.

Ben Stein shares his opinion of this year's Oscars

Another Perspective
Missed Tributes
By Ben Stein

Now for a few humble thoughts about the Oscars.

I did not see every second of it, but my wife did, and she joins me in noting that there was not one word of tribute, not one breath, to our fighting men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan or to their families or their widows or orphans. There were pitifully dishonest calls for peace -- as if the people we are fighting were interested in any peace for us but the peace of the grave. But not one word for the hundreds of thousands who have served and are serving, not one prayer or moment of silence for the dead and maimed.

• SIMPSON PLANS TO ADOPT BEFORE HAVING KIDS OF HER OWN
Jessica Simpson has been inspired to follow her adoption dreams by celebrity activist Angelina Jolie. The newly-single pop star once begged her father to let her adopt a Mexican orphan during a trip to Latin America when she was a teenager, and now she's seriously considering giving a child a home and a better life. And it's all thanks to actress Jolie, who has adopted two kids and is carrying boyfriend Brad Pitt's first child. Simpson says, "I think Angelina Jolie has done amazing, amazing things and the international adoption rate just since her (decision to adopt) has skyrocketed. It's unbelievable. "I want to adopt and I plan to adopt before I have my own kids." And Simpson is hoping she can inspire other wannabe mums to follow her example by urging politicians to help cut through red tape that prevents certain couples from adopting. The pop star is planning to speak to President George W Bush about the issue, urging him to make it easier for interracial couples to adopt.

• SIMPSON BLASTS BUSH SNUB STORY
Latest: Jessica Simpson has fired back at press reports she snubbed a meeting with President George W Bush, insisting he ran out of time to sit down with her. Simpson insists she is not among the celebrities who are keen to attack the US President - and she's still hoping the pair can reschedule their meeting. Simpson was set to meet the leader tomorrow (17 March '06), during the pop star's visit to Capitol Hill in Washington DC, where she'll address congressmen about charity organisation Operation Smile. She says, "I'm just so excited because the President asked for a special meeting. We're going to sit down face to face and we're going to talk about children. I want to set up this whole orphanage and adoption organisation. "I just really want to bring awareness to interracial adoption." The pop star, who performed at Bush's inauguration and has been to The White House four times, admits she's a big fan of Bush: "He's a very personable guy, he's a Texas guy. His ranch is four doors down from my aunt and uncle's ranch. We have lots of Texas stuff to talk about."

Los Angeles Police Take A New Look At Notorious B.I.G. Murder.

Assistant City Attorney Don Vincent revealed yesterday (March 16) that the Los Angeles Police Department has assigned a new team of detectives to take second look at the 1997 fatal shooting of Notorious B.I.G.

Image hosting by TinyPic

Voletta Wallace, B.I.G.'s mother, his sister and his widow, Faith Evans, sued the city and others four years ago, alleging wrongful death and accused convicted corrupt cops Rafael Perez and David Mack of conspiring to kill Biggie with Death Row CEO Marion "Suge" Knight.

Last July, U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper declared a mistrial in the family's suit after it was revealed that the LAPD were deliberately concealing evidence in the rapper's killing. She later ordered the LAPD to pay $1.1 million to the family's legal team in costs disbursed during the trial.

The LAPD has vehemently denied the accusations of purposely concealing information and on Thursday, Vincent added that no evidence has been found linking police to B.I.G's death.

A retrial of B.I.G's death is expected later this year.

Sharon Stone has allegedly taken a swipe at Sienna Miller.

The screen beauty reportedly laughed when she heard rumours the young starlet wanted to play her character, Catherine Tramell, in the new 'Basic Instinct' sequel.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Sienna was mentioned at one stage - before the second film was even given the green light - but there was just no way.

"She was offered first refusal and chuckled when she heard Sienna was keen. According to Sharon, she is just a silly girl who couldn't handle Catherine."

The 48-year-old - who first played the sexy murderess 13 years ago - is also said to consider Sienna nothing but a "naïve little girl".

The source added: "A-list stars like Sharon think she is just a naïve little girl. "Sharon wouldn't have let someone as young as Sienna play her part."

Iconic Capitol Records Tower To Be Sold

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060317/ap_en_mu/landmark_threatened

LOS ANGELES - Rumors that the Capitol Records tower, which looks like a stack of records and is one of the world's most recognizable buildings, could be sold to a developer who might convert it into condos has sparked concern among city leaders and preservationists.

They say the building where Capitol Records helped produce and distribute music for Frank Sinatra, the Beatles and many other musicians, is too much of an icon to be turned into housing.

Preservationists said they like the idea that music continues to be made inside the 13-story office tower and that it should not become just a landmark of the past.

"If they leave, it'll take something away from Hollywood," said Erin Bennett, a hostess at Hollywood and Vine, a restaurant named after the famed intersection close to the building. "It'll be an old building that used to be something."

Besides its architectural significance, the tower is a symbol of enterprise and talent, said Diana Rubio, a spokeswoman for Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

"There isn't any other building like it," Rubio said. "It's a lot like the Hollywood sign, and there's only one Capitol Records building."

A spokeswoman for record label EMI, which owns the tower, said that although the company was not "actively shopping" the building, it had received several serious proposals from interested buyers.

"We have a responsibility to look at anything serious," said EMI spokeswoman Jeanne Murphy.

Villaraigosa and city officials were working with EMI to head off a sale. About 160 Capitol Records employees work in the building.

Hip-Hop Mogul Says, 'Bring Your Animals Inside'

title or description

As temperatures drop near or below freezing in many parts of the country, the last place dogs should be is outside in the bitter cold. That's why hip-hop industry legend Russell Simmons has taken time out of his jam-packed schedule to record PETA World's latest PSA urging everyone to bring their dogs inside where they belong.

"Imagine being forced to live in the back yard in the bitter cold or chained to a pole all night long so you couldn't move around," Russell says. "Sometimes we forget that animals suffer just like us—they can feel the same pain that we do." He's right. When animals are left outside they can suffer from frostbite, exposure, and dehydration when their water freezes. Sometimes they straight-up freeze to death.

"Most likely, your dogs would do anything for you-—the least you could do is bring them inside and make them part of your family," Russell says. Dogs are pack animals who want to be together, just like us, and they suffer from stress and loneliness when they're stuck outside at the end of a chain or caged up in a small pen or kennel. In fact, if we had to come up with the worst possible torture for dogs, solitary confinement would most likely be it. So, as Russell put it: "Bring your dogs inside. Leaving them outside does not make them tougher or smarter or better. It just makes you a jerk. ... Your dogs deserve a better life. Your dogs are your family."

"It's real simple: Treat your animals with respect. ... If you're not respecting your animal, you're not respecting yourself." Thanks, Russell—we couldn't have said it better ourselves. If you have dogs, cats, or any other animals, please don't leave them outside to suffer. Bring them inside and treat them the way you would want to be treated.

Aguilera Looks 'Back' On Upcoming Album

March 17, 2006, 3:35 PM ET

Soren Baker, L.A.
Christina Aguilera receives musical assistance from an unlikely collaborator on her upcoming album, "Back to Basics," due in June via RCA. Gang Starr principal DJ Premier produced five songs for the project, which finds Aguilera paying tribute to the music that inspired her: soul, jazz and blues from the 1920s, '30s and '40s.

"It was kind of a shock because I was like, 'How the hell does she know about me?'" Premier recalls of his first conversation with RCA about the album. "I'm one of those guys that really doesn't expect pop artists to really be up on me. My first question was, 'What does she know about me?'"

It turns out Aguilera was familiar with some of Premier's jazz-influenced work with Gang Starr in the late 1980s and early 1990s, especially the song "Jazz Thing."

"It had elements of Miles Davis and Billie Holiday and little horn pieces," Aguilera says of the tune. "The way he combined that, I was like, 'Hm. I bet he would get where I'm trying to go with this record.' It was taking a chance. God knows if he would even do it because it was kind of his first time, I think, even venturing into the 'pop' world. I knew that it would be a different and new thing for him."

Aguilera says that her work with DJ Premier is new territory for both of them and continues her legacy of taking creative chances with her music. Likely single "Ain't No Other Man," produced by DJ Premier and Charles Roane, clocks in at 127 beats per minute -- most pop and rap songs rarely exceed 10 -- -and features energetic horn blares. Another song, "Thank You (Dedication to Fans)," finds Premier slicing up pieces of Aguilera's first hit, "Genie in a Bottle," and pairing them with voice-mail messages from Aguilera's fans.

These songs gave Aguilera the sounds she desired and allowed her to fulfill another one of her mandates. "The thing that I try to do with each record, I don't necessarily go to the main people that are the No. 1 chart-toppers in music," she says. "I really like to go left field, think a little bit out of the box and go with someone, maybe a little bit more obscure, that I really respect. Not to say that Premier is that, but just to say that I'm not going to go to the obvious person, say, the Neptunes, Pharrell or Lil Jon. I really like to go someplace different that people haven't approached."

Walt Disney Records 'High School Musical' Soundtrack #1 on Billboards Top 200

March 1, 2006--Walt Disney Records' soundtrack to the blockbuster Disney Channel Original Movie "High School Musical" is #1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart after scanning 100,967 units for the week of February 26. With over 1.2 million units shipped to-date, the RIAA is expected to certify the soundtrack platinum next week. In addition to its new top position, the "High School Musical" soundtrack has held the #1 spot on the Billboard Kids Chart for six consecutive weeks and returned to the #1 position on the Billboard Soundtrack Chart (a position it has held for three of the past five weeks).

So from the huge success of this movie (in which a sequel is coming out in the spring of 2007), the actors of the movie have lately been getting alot of exposure. They've recently been interviewed on E!News, CNN interview, and two of the cast members had guest apperances on TRL (however the appearance got cancelled).
Anyways for the past couple of weeks I haven't been able to look at something online/tv without this movie being mentioned somewhere. And how weird is that songs from this movie went to #1 on the billboard charts ?

Howard confessed, however, that he wasn't happy about Three 6 Mafia's overall performance during the Oscar broadcast. "Just seeing the way they performed, it kind of broke my heart though. Kirk Cameron gets spit on for Jesus

Kirk Cameron interview with ABC

In addition to creating teaching materials, books and a Web site, Cameron is now back on TV in a weekly cable program. "The Way of the Master" show features Cameron and Comfort speaking to strangers about Christianity. On occasions, things go badly wrong and the pair is attacked by members of the public.

Comfort recalled one incident, saying "While I was preaching the gospel a gentleman came up and he started spitting on me. And he spat quite a few times." He says he simply remained calm and moved on.

"My favorite Bible verse is where Jesus said, 'If you are persecuted in one city, flee to the next,'" Comfort said. "And that's what I did."

I'm guessing that "preaching the Gospel"=telling said man he was going to burn in hell because he was a Jew or something.
