NBC announces ‘Idol’-like singing contest

With Fox’s “American Idol” showing no sign of going flat, NBC announced it’s planning a singing competition based on a
50-year-old European show that helped launch the careers of Celine Dion and ABBA.
The U.S. version of “Eurovision Song Contest” will combine broadcast and online elements, NBC said Friday. As with “American Idol,” which
itself was patterned on the hit British series “Pop Idol,” the winner will receive a recording contract.

“‘Eurovision’ is the granddaddy of all talent shows and the Super Bowl of singing,” Ben Silverman, chairman of series producer Reveille,
said in a statement.

As described by the network, the show will include an online competition to find singers from each state, with the winners advancing to the
broadcast series to vie for the title. Voting will be in the hands of viewers.

Further details on the series, which will feature amateurs and professionals and solo act or group acts, are in development, NBC said.

“American Idol,” which this week bested the Grammy Awards in head-to-head ratings competition, showcases nonprofessionals.

In 1974, ABBA won the “Eurovision” contest for Sweden with “Waterloo.” Dion won for Switzerland in 1988 and Olivia Newton-John competed
for the United Kingdom in 1974. In 1958, an Italian singer performed the show’s most widely recorded song, “Volare,” NBC said.

No air date for the NBC series was announced.

Little girl cursing at MAry J. Blige

I found this video on youtube.com and I haven't seen it here. I'm not quite sure how old it is, but the comments on the video alone screamed ONTD, so I thought it'd fit here. My apologies if this has been posted or is insanely old.

Oh yes she DID call Mary a bitch:

I thought the whole thing was funny. Mary's reaction and the fact that the little girl yelled that.

Is Katie Holmes Getting Cold Feet?

If she was sane, I'd say most likely yes. Then again, there is no proof that she's sane.

Cracks have appeared in their veneer of perfect happiness and Katie might be having second thoughts. "I think Katie is getting cold feet," a friend of Holmes tells Star. "She must be wishing she and Tom could slow down their race to the altar while they get to know each other better."

And although Katie has gone on record expressing her interest in Scientology, it's apparently becoming a sticking point in the couple's wedding plans. The actress apparently wants a Roman Catholic priest at their wedding out of respect for her parents, Martin Sr., a lawyer, and Kathy, a homemaker — both of whom are devout Catholics. "She probably feels that would make her parents happy," reveals the source.

But Tom, who was raised Catholic and is now a devout Scientologist, probably doesn't feel a need to have the blessing of the Catholic Church when he says "I do," adds the insider. He also wants to hold the wedding in a Scientologist-friendly location, according to the source, such as the Scientology Celebrity Center in Los Angeles or aboard the Scientology yacht, "where they can have some privacy."

Tom seemingly insists that Katie restrict herself to his inner circle, most of whom are Scientologists. "Tom wants Katie to spend most of her free time by his side" says the source. "But I think she'd rather have a break from the media glare" and head back home to Toledo, where she can visit her mother, Kathy, who recently won a battle with cancer.

Let's hope Katie's family will begin to intervene is Katie moves forward with the wedding plans, regardless of how much she will gain from the transaction. If not we'll have to set up a little intervention for Ms. Holmes.

Injured Kwan withdraws from Olympics

Skating icon loses chance for elusive gold; Hughes tapped to replace her

Associated Press
Updated: 9:10 a.m. ET Feb. 12, 2006

TURIN, Italy - Michelle Kwan’s decade-long quest for Olympic gold came to a sorrowful end Sunday when she withdrew because of an injury, taking the biggest name out of the Turin Games.

Kwan cut short her first practice of the games the day before after straining a groin muscle, and the injury worsened as the day wore on. She withdrew after Dr. Jim Moeller evaluated her early Sunday morning and recommended she not continue.

“I wish I was here in better circumstances,” Kwan said Sunday morning, her voice flat and her eyes puffy. “When I first put in my petition, I said I believed I’d be 100 percent by time the Olympics came around. But yesterday, after going on ice and feeling stiff ... I don’t think that I can be 100 percent.

“I respect the Olympics too much to compete and I don’t feel I can be at my best.”

Emily Hughes was chosen by the U.S. Olympic Committee as Kwan’s replacement.

Kwan has been the face of figure skating for a decade, and she owned the spotlight at these games — despite being here for only four days. Her withdrawal is a loss for everyone, USOC chairman Peter Ueberroth said.

“Michelle Kwan means more to the United States Olympic Committee than maybe any athlete that’s ever performed for the U.S. Olympic Committee,” Ueberroth said. “She’s been a leader, she’s been gracious, she’s somebody that cares for so many youngsters that are training in our country.

“She’s a real loss to all of the United States Olympic Committee and to the United States of America, and I think to the world. She’s made a courageous decision.”

Olympic officials wasted little time approving the petition to put Hughes on the team. The 17-year-old, younger sister of 2002 Olympic champion Sarah Hughes, was third at last month’s national championships.

She said in a Saturday interview with WNBC-TV in New York that she would be ready to travel to Turin if needed.

“Just point me in the direction and I’m there,” Hughes said.

But that could be a challenge: Blizzard warnings were posted for the New York City area, where she lives, and dozens of flights were canceled at the city’s three major airports.

When Hughes gets here, she’ll join Sasha Cohen and Kimmie Meissner on the U.S. team. The women’s competition begins Feb. 21.

Kwan said she would return to the United States so as not to be a distraction.

“I’m a little bit shocked,” Cohen said. “I know how tough it is to come back from an injury and get yourself together. It’s great she tried, but things don’t always work out.”

Kwan missed last month’s U.S. nationals with a groin injury, and needed a medical exemption to join the Turin team. She was evaluated several times by U.S. Figure Skating doctors before she arrived in Turin, and they declared her fit to skate.

But she said she pulled the groin when she tried a triple flip Saturday, and the injury worsened throughout the day. After examining her, Moeller said Sunday he does not believe the current injury is related to the groin problem Kwan had during the national championships.

“She was cleared medically and told she had a complete recovery from the prior injuries,” Moeller said. “Based on my assessment at this moment, I would have to say it’s an acute new injury.”

This was Kwan’s last gasp for Olympic gold. Though she’s defined the sport for the past decade, winning five world and nine U.S. titles, she came up heartbreakingly short at the Olympics. The favorite in both Nagano and Salt Lake City, she settled for silver in 1998 and a bronze in 2002.

Now 25, she hung around the past four years for one more shot at gold. But her hopes faded fast.

She missed the Grand Prix season with a hip injury, then missed the nationals with the groin injury. She looked sharp during a Jan. 27 monitoring session that solidified her spot on the team, doing back-to-back run-throughs of her long and short programs.

But she said the long plane ride to Italy, followed by marching in the opening ceremony, took a toll. By the time she returned to the athletes’ village, she was starting to hurt.

When she woke up Saturday morning, it wasn’t any better.

“It’s an honor to represent your country. I didn’t think twice about not going to the opening ceremony, or not going to practice. I have to get my legs under me,” she said Sunday. “When I felt stiff, it’s the Olympics, you’ve got to push. Unfortunately, it happened.”

She didn’t do her first jump, a smooth triple toe loop, until almost 14 minutes into the workout. She did a single flip, landed on two feet on her first triple flip, and fell hard on her next attempt at the jump. Kwan made one last try, but could only do a double, and the frustration was clear on her face.

More telling was her demeanor. With coach Rafael Arutunian still in transit, U.S. team leader Roger Glenn held her hand several times to comfort her. She had to wipe her eyes several times, and she left the practice 15 minutes before it ended — an early exit for a woman who is meticulous about preparation.

She got treatment in the afternoon, but by evening she knew something was terribly wrong.

“It’s physical pain that’s keeping me from performing and skating,” she said. “But it’s also emotional pain as well because I had to make this tough decision.”

That was clear with one look at her Sunday. Dressed in black, her eyes swollen, she had none of the sparkle the world has come to know. And though she tried to smile bravely, pain was etched across her face.

“It’s always been a dream to win the Olympics and it’s always an honor to represent your country,” said Kwan, whose eyes filled with tears with every word she spoke. “My parents are here ... and they always want me to be happy, for their baby to win the gold and make my dreams come true.

“I have no regrets,” she added, pausing to compose herself. “I tried my hardest. And if I don’t win the gold, it’s OK. I’ve had a great career. I’ve been very lucky. This is a sport, and it’s beautiful.”

Lance Armstrong vs. Sheryl Crow: George W. Bush to Blame?

Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow have said all the right things so far as the speculation for their break shifts gears. One tabloid even examines that it may be President George W. Bush's fault as Lance is a Bush fan while Sheryl is a Bush basher.

The Star details that a friend of the singer said they knew the bust up was coming.

"Sheryl said Lance didn't just support Bush, - he'd go off and fight if the president asked him too.

Recall Crow sported a "War is not the answer," tee-shirt last July and Lance answered by biking with Bush in August of 2005. (photo left)

Other theories from Keeping Tabs:

--"Lance dumped her," Us says plainly, and most of the tabs agree.

--InTouch says the cyclist has tried to end the relationship four times since September.

--The Enquirer says he's always had cold feet.

The 'Bush did it' is classic. Some folks will blame Bush for anything.

'Gilmore Girls' Feud Upset More Than Fans

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer1 hour, 21 minutes ago

This season's "Gilmore Girls" story line where the normally tight mother-and-daughter team of Lorelai and Rory feuded and gave each other the silent treatment caused some sharp arguments among the show's rabid fans.

Turns out there were some divisions on the set, too.

"It wasn't my favorite," admitted Lauren Graham, who plays mom Lorelai.

Lorelai and Rory have since made up; tears flowed. Their rapid-fire repartee is back, although usually by phone. Rory is in Yale now, and, in one busy episode this month, became editor of her school paper and moved in with her boyfriend.

The show's creators are clearly trying to push things and avoid the fatigue that usually afflicts television shows in their sixth season.

Long the WB's most critically acclaimed series, "Gilmore Girls" has quietly grown to become its second most popular after "7th Heaven." The show averages just under 5 million viewers a week, up from 4.1 million two seasons ago, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Last month's announcement that the WB and UPN will shut down to form a new network in the fall has left all of their programs in flux. But "Gilmore Girls" would seem to have earned the right to determine its own destiny and make the move to the new CW network.

The growth has come despite the widely objected-to story line.

Part of Graham's problems with the feud were personal; she missed working with co-star Alexis Bledel every day. Primarily she believed it didn't ring true to her character.

"I struggled with the idea that this character, being the parent, would go so far as to stop speaking to her daughter and not make more of an effort," said Graham, taking a break in her trailer on the Warner Bros. lot during a slow day of filming. "We had it in bits and pieces, but it was hard for me to justify — that I wouldn't try harder, that I wouldn't reach out more, that I could stand to be away from her for that long."

She questioned co-creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino more this year than ever, "and I'm sure they enjoyed it not at all," Graham said.

Some critics took her side. Ted Cox of the Chicago Daily Herald said "it seemed suddenly as if the characters were being manipulated to create drama, rather than allowing the drama to flow naturally out of the characters."

The Palladinos concede that it's tough to come up with new stories for a long-running show without them seeming contrived. But in this case, they said it was important to do something that shakes Rory to her foundation — a typical rite of passage for budding adults, who learn about themselves by how they respond.

"To really rock Rory's world, we had to go to what the core of the show was and to really have them have a rift and explore what the show would be," Sherman-Palladino said. "I know there are two camps. Personally, for me, I've loved the psychological implications of this year more than any other year because we've really gotten to do some real mother-daughter stories."

Think deeply about the characters, and the silence rings true, she said. Lorelai has spent her life trying to do everything differently from her own mother. And if it was Lorelai taking time off from Yale, her mother would have personally dragged her back to school.

While things are better now between Lorelai and Rory, it's not so for Lorelai and Luke, her diner-owner beau.

They're engaged after an agonizingly long courtship. But the sudden emergence of Luke's daughter from a previous relationship has thrown their marriage plans in doubt.

It's never simple, is it? Driving wedges between seemingly well-suited characters is another risk to an audience's patience. The Palladinos like the idea of exploring the difficulties in bringing together two strong personalities very set in their ways.

"It's very different if you get married at 29, than at 38," Sherman-Palladino said. "It's a very different world, and that's what we're trying to tap into."

The future of "Gilmore Girls" is a convoluted plot itself. The Palladinos say they're genuinely undecided about whether they will continue with the series after this season — alarming news for fans of a series that, more than most, reflects the strong sensibilities of their creators.

One factor that may have driven them away — a pilot for a new series, a romantic comedy, that would have been filmed in New York — is no longer in the picture. It was scrapped with the WB's dissolution.

The Palladinos are making plans for a cliffhanger ending to this season (wedding? no wedding?) and for the show to run without them in the fall, just in case.

Graham said the signs point to one more season after this one; the production company is making sure to add another year for people who had six-year contracts. Graham said that's when she'd like to move on, citing the show's workload.

"Getting the language perfect requires a number of takes that you might not have on another show," she explained. "It's just a lot of work — 13, 14 hours door to door. I've missed weddings, I've missed babies being born. I'm not complaining, because of what it has brought me, but I would be ready for a different balance."

She has a hard time imagining the Palladinos not involved, particularly if the series is coming to an end.

Television economics may also play a part in the decision. The WB is canceling "7th Heaven" because, after a decade on the air, the network's most popular show was losing money because it was so expensive to make.

"They've come to us before and asked point-blank how long we think the show can go," Sherman-Palladino said, "and we say it's a family show, it can go on forever. If `7th Heaven' could have gone on for 10 years, why couldn't this show go for 10 years? There's no reason. They're going to be hard-pressed to assemble a cast this good on television again."

KINKY photographer David LaChapelle is still so furious at Jessica and Ashlee Simpson for pulling out of a Rolling Stone photo shoot last  year that he's sent them a bill for $10,000 over the cancellation.
The brouhaha started last September when LaChapelle was hired by Rolling Stone to shoot Jessica and Ashlee in an "edgy" spread. But the sisters quickly became unnerved by a barrage of the lensman's odd demands.

"Locations were changed. Jessica was told she couldn't use her hair guy [and best friend] Ken Paves even though David used him for other shoots," an insider says. "Then, he changed hair people three times the day before the shoot. He started making demands that made her uncomfortable ... telling her the shot was going to be down and dirty and in a bar with snakes ... like she was Paris Hilton. She has to protect her image - and he was going to kill it."

everything that's wrong with music ... Out of everything combined, they're everything wrong with culture, and everything wrong with art, and what we think of as art and musical culture - in one family! "They're nothing. They have nothing. They hold no interest whatsoever for anybody. They're reality-red-carpet, lip-synching television stars. "I don't know what they are beyond that. I don't think they offer anything ... I was only doing it because of my relationship with Rolling Stone,"
LaChapelle ranted. "We were going to try and make the Simpsons look cool. I realize now that is an impossible task."

The Simpsons were taken aback by the verbal assault. A friend of the family says, "They had no idea they were going to be attacked like that.
And now to get a $10,000 bill? No way are they ever going to pay that. He will not see a dime from them. They didn't sign any contracts.

"When [father] Joe saw the bill, he just laughed - the nerve of this guy! The shoot didn't go off because of him."

Asked for comment, LaChapelle's rep giggled, "I'll get back to you." He didn't.

Destiny's Child Never Can Say Goodbye

Move over, Cher, Destiny's Child is giving you a run in the longest-goodbye department.

Three months after giving their much hyped "farewell performance" on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Beyonce & Co. have announced plans to reunite for yet another swan song at the 2006 NBA All-Star game in Houston Feb. 19.

The eight-time Grammy winners are set to sing the national anthem preceding the game, which will be held in their native Houston.

The gig comes on the heels of the group's farewell tour and 2004 album, Destiny Fulfilled. And, of course, that much trumpeted adios performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

On Nov. 15, Kimmel devoted an entire show--a first for the late-night host--to the supposed retirement of Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. The trio performed both indoors and outdoors for a crowd of nearly 1,000 mourning fans flown in from all over the country.

While the threesome billed the show as its final public concert, Rowland hinted during the interview that a reunion wasn't entirely out of the question--it's just that nobody expected it so soon.

"You never know," Rowland said when asked if the group may reteam in the future. "I think the most beautiful thing is that we're not parting because there were problems. We're parting because we're celebrating each other's growth."

Destiny's Child first announced its split last June.

"Now is the time to pursue our personal goals and solo efforts in earnest," the three songstresses said in a statement at the time. "We want to thank all of our fans for their incredible love and support and hope to see you all again as we continue fulfilling our destinies."

For Knowles, that means a role opposite Steve Martin in the remake of The Pink Panther, due in theaters Feb. 10. She's currently filming a movie version of the Broadway musical Dream Girls, about a 1960s all-girl trio, that costars Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx and will then enter the studio this summer to begin work on her follow-up to her multiplatinum solo debut, Dangerously in Love.

Rowland, meanwhile, has her sophomore solo album set for a June 13 release, while Williams' next Christian music project may be out this summer.

Destiny's Child's All-Star finale will be broadcast on TNT.

Pete says he's staying clean

Pete Doherty has told the Channel 4 News that he vows to stay clean.

The Babyshambles singer was speaking to the news programme after spending time in prison for possession of drugs, including heroin and cocaine.

Following a 12-month community order sentencing, Doherty told the interviewer that he wanted to "start a drugs-free life" and that he "wasn't much of a junkie anyway."

He conceded that it wouldn't be easy, but that he was "going to get an anti-heroin implant."

"I've just been helped. I'm not going to make light of the fact that I've been given a great chance, and take crack and heroin," he continued.

"If I was not famous then I would not have the extremes, the corruptness and fortune that led me there in the first place," added Doherty.

Kaley Cuoco simply flipped for 'Charmed'

Even with the aid of wires, Kaley Cuoco says she's still struggling to get the hang of tumbling through the air as the newest witch to land on the WB's "Charmed."

"I thought it was going to be easy, but it wasn't. I got tangled in the wires so many times doing my flips I almost strangled myself," says the 20-year-old actress. She might be terrible, she adds, "but I try, I try so hard."

Cuoco joined the cast of the supernatural drama series this season as Billie Jenkins, a college student with telekinetic powers.
Stunt co-ordinator Noon Orsatti says that although Cuoco sometimes needs a stunt double for the more dangerous sequences - as do the rest of the cast - the actress is "very determined and professional" about learning the technical skills necessary to be a witch.
Now in its eighth season, the show (at 8 p.m. Sundays) stars Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs and Rose McGowan as the Halliwell sisters - Phoebe, Piper and Paige - who are duty-bound to use their powers to protect the world from evil demons.

"Kaley's character keeps the show young and fresh by challenging the existing stars with a new perspective and new powers," co-executive producer Brad Kern said in an e-mailed response. "Kaley has such a strong screen presence that, along with her uncanny sense of comedic timing, complements Alyssa, Holly and Rose perfectly."

"They've basically taken my character on as kind of their little sister. I think they are training me so I can go off to do the dirty work," says Cuoco, best known as Bridget Hennessy, one of the daughters on the sitcom "8 Simple Rules."

"We don't really know yet why she's a witch. She just has this power, and luckily found the Halliwell sisters. She wants to learn more about herself, but she's very naive and always getting in trouble," says Cuoco, chatting in a makeup trailer on the Paramount Studios lot while her blonde hair is being flipped into shape.

Cuoco says the trainee witch's fashion style, though "cute and fun," is "all over the place . . . but that's what I like because that's the way I am. Yeah, she's a bit all over the place."

Cuoco grew up in Southern California and has been acting since she was a tot. She was ranked as a junior amateur tennis player, but no longer plays actively. She has two horses and several rescued dogs.

"I would have 55 dogs if I could," she says. "I'm hoping one day to open my own shelter. I would be the person with the three-legged dog . . . I just love animals more than people, I really do."

Cuoco occasionally watches reruns of "8 Simple Rules," now airing weekdays at 4 p.m. on the WB. "It was really weird to see . . . I thought I was so cool when I was on the show, but I don't think I was," she says, noting the big difference four years can make when you're in your late teens.

Just 16 when she started on the sitcom, Cuoco had to survive the sudden death of star John Ritter at the start of the ABC series' second season in 2003.
"It was traumatic," she recalls. "It's just so difficult to talk about. But now that 'Rules' is playing on the WB, I'm actually excited because John was just so . . . hysterical. I remember every moment I was with him. That year on the show was the best year of my life. I'm glad they are showing it and giving him some respect."

Cuoco is still getting used to the start-stop, one-camera world of dramatic television, as opposed to sitcoms, which are typically shot with multiple cameras in real time.

"Sitcoms are so much easier to understand," she exclaims in her freewheeling conversational style. It's only when she sees "Charmed" episodes cut together with the special effects included that she realizes "what took us so long to shoot."

'Jaws' Author Peter Benchley Dies at 65

'Jaws' Author Peter Benchley, Who Became an Advocate for Conservation of Sharks, Dies at 65

NEW YORK Feb 12, 2006 (AP)— Peter Benchley, whose novel "Jaws" terrorized millions of swimmers even as the author himself became an advocate for the conservation of sharks, has died at age 65, his widow said Sunday.

Wendy Benchley, married to the author for 41 years, said he died Saturday night at their home in Princeton, N.J. The cause of death, she said, was idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive and a fatal scarring of the lungs.

Thanks to Benchley's 1974 novel, and Steven Spielberg's blockbuster movie of the same name, the simple act of ocean swimming became synonymous with fatal horror, of still water followed by ominous, pumping music, then teeth and blood and panic.

"Spielberg certainly made the most superb movie; Peter was very pleased," Wendy Benchley told The Associated Press.

"But Peter kept telling people the book was fiction, it was a novel, and that he no more took responsibility for the fear of sharks than Mario Puzo took responsibility for the Mafia."

Besides his wife, Peter Benchley is survived by three children and five grandchildren. A small family service will take place next week in Princeton, Wendy Benchley said.

Doherty kicked out of football match

Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty was reportedly kicked out of a football match for taking drugs in the toilets - only hours after he vowed on national television to stay away from crack and heroin.

According to the News Of the World, the former Libertines singer was told to leave the QPR v Millwall game at Loftus Road on Saturday after he was caught with heroin.

Only hours earlier, Doherty told Channel 4 News he would stay away from crack and heroin after being released from prison on charges of possessing drugs.

Magistrates in Ealing, west London, last week ordered him to take part in a drugs rehabilitation programme as part of a 12-month community order.

Doherty told Channel 4 News his sentence was "a lot to be going on with" and that he would not be taking more drugs.

He said: "I've just been helped. I'm not going to make light of the fact I've been given a great chance, and take crack and heroin."

Asked what the future held, he said: "Start the drug-free life that I'm looking forward to."

The 'Desperate Housewives' star - who is widely regarded to be one of Hollywood's most beautiful celebrities - says she was a plain little girl who paled in comparison to her pretty, blonde sisters. The olive-skinned beauty says her father even gave her the nickname 'la prieta faya', meaning 'the ugly dark one', when she was young.

She added: "I was skinny and short. I didn't blossom until college." Eva, 30, says she worked so hard on developing a good personality to compensate for not being good-looking, she didn't realise when men started noticing her.

She revealed to Glamour magazine: "I did notice heads turning, but as I depended so much on my personality, I thought it was because I was such a great person."

Actor SAMUEL L JACKSON is set to star alongside 50 CENT in a forthcoming film, despite turning down the chance to appear in the rapper's big screen debut.
The PULP FICTION star, 57, will play a army medic struggling to cope with life back in the United States after returning from the war in Iraq, in HOME OF THE BRAVE.
Last year (05) Jackson was approached to star in 50 Cent's semi-autobiographical GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN', but turned the role down because he didn't approve of rappers becoming actors.

Jackson said, "I like listening to 50 Cent and I can groove to his music but I don't want to groove to him on screen, just yet. Maybe if he does five movies and he shows some talent. "I mean how does he get to work with JIM SHERIDAN and I don't. What is it about 50 Cent that makes Jim Sheridan say, 'I'd really like to make a movie with him?'"

IRVINE WINKLER is set to direct and produce the $12 million (GBP6.6 million) movie, which starts filming in Morocco next month (MAR06).

A Surprise Ending
After 11 years of marriage, Heather Locklear and Richie Sambora go from being 'the perfect couple' to divorce court

In the batting cage at Baseball City in Agoura Hills, Calif., on Feb. 5, Heather Locklear was looking fine: her jeans tight, her white tank top showing off her L.A. tan, and - in defiance of house rules - her trademark blonde mane flowing unencumbered by a helmet. And she was hitting hard: swing, crack, swoosh... swing, crack, swoosh. There in the cage, with her daugher Ava, 8 - who had been first up to bat - at her side, she was the picture of suburban bliss. "They were having a lot of fun," says a witness of the girls' afternoon out. "She was laughing and cheering on Ava and having a great time." But after about 15 minutes, Ava said she was tired. So her mother put down her bat, climbed into her town car with Ava and called it a day. "Heather really did look good," says the witness. "All things considered."

Alec Baldwin's Blind Date Flop

Actor ALEC BALDWIN was disappointed when he was set-up on a blind date with CINDY CRAWFORD - because she wasn't beautiful enough.

The sexy supermodel says the actor's brother, BILLY BALDWIN, set them up on a blind date years ago when Alec was an aspiring actor and she was a 20-year-old model.

She explains, "Alec had just seen me on the cover of Cosmo (Cosmopolitan). I think he was expecting me to open the door and have everything hiked up and looking glamorous, but I was just a girl going on a date.

"I felt like I saw his face just fall like, 'She's not that Cosmo girl.'"
The supermodel says the two went out on the date, but that nothing more came of the relationship after her less than stellar first impression.

She adds, "It didn't go anywhere. I'll leave it at that."

Courtney Love’s intimate journals spark legal feud with father

THE troubled family history of Courtney Love is set to catch up with her as the rock star-cum-actress prepares to publish a series of “intimate” journals.
Love’s father, a former rock manager called Hank Harrison, is preparing to sue her and Faber & Faber, publisher of her book Dirty Blonde, if she alleges that he put her on the road to drug addiction by giving her LSD as a toddler.

Harrison has already warned his ex-wife Linda Carroll that he may take legal action against her for airing the allegations in the book Her Mother’s Daughter.

Last month Love was released from a court-ordered drug rehabilitation clinic and regained custody of Frances Bean, her daughter with the rock star Kurt Cobain, who died of gunshot wounds in 1994.

At 41, the flamboyant and seemingly self-destructive star has promised a Los Angeles judge that she will “clean up my act”. She is writing the book in part because, although she has the lucrative rights to songs written by Cobain, frontman of grunge pioneers Nirvana, she faces tough financial decisions. It has been reported that she is considering selling the rights to Cobain’s songs for £60m.

A woodland bungalow near Seattle that she bought for Cobain’s sister Kim in 1997 was put up for public auction last December after she fell behind on mortgage payments. She is also being sued by her former lawyers over unpaid bills.

Love is unlikely to get much financial aid from her parents. Last week her 64-year-old father, who runs an equestrian centre in central California, said he had mixed feelings about his daughter.

“Courtney is a brilliant artist with a photographic memory and a mass of talent, but she can also be a mean bitch, although I put a lot of that down to her mother,” Harrison said.

“I have been told she was given a $1m (£570,000) advance for her book, and for that it will have to be pretty detailed. I know she has told other people that I gave her drugs when she was three years old, which she cannot possibly remember and is absolutely untrue as I was an anti-drugs counsellor in the 1960s. But I do fear what she might write now to make the book sell.”

Dirty Blonde, due to be published in November, is based on her journals of life with Cobain, as a rock star with her own band Hole and her acting career, which peaked with her role in the 1996 film The People vs Larry Flynt.

kelly clarkson's house

i saw this on some girl's blog and it seems pretty legit...aside from the big read marquee that reads "personal home of americal idol star, kelly clarkson". i guess you don't really HAVE to be professional if you're selling a celebrity's home since there's probably going to be some jackass willing to buy it simply because it used to belong to someone famous.

TMZ Exclusive: Scott Stapp -- Arrested
Singer marries -- then allegedly goes nuts at LAX

(Feb. 12, 9:45PM ET) -- TMX has learned, Creed lead singer Scott Stapp was arrested Saturday at LAX on charges that he was drunk in a public place (Penal Code, Section 647).
Police sources tell TMZ that Stapp tried to board a plane yesterday but was allegedly so drunk that airline personnel would not let him on. Sources say Stapp was "antagonistic, boisterous and pissed off."
We're told Stapp was taken to LAPD's Van Nuys division and demanded a blood-alcohol test. He blew a .18, more than twice the legal limit.
Stapp got married the day before his arrest in Miami. His bride is Jaclyn Nesheiwat. Unclear if she was at the airport during the arrest.
Stapp must appear on March 8 for arraignment.

lmao at his drunk ass demanding a blood-alcohol test.
