(1-24) 1800 PST OAKLAND -- A Santa Cruz man infatuated with actress Drew Barrymore appeared in federal court on Tuesday on charges that he mailed letters filled with fake anthrax in an effort to win her attention, authorities said.
Paul Charles Steeves, 43, posted messages on two Web sites threatening to launch a chemical attack on Jan. 16, authorities said. He also sent letters containing white powder to the FBI in Watsonville, the U.S. probation office in Oakland and the New Bridge Foundation, a Berkeley rehabilitation center, federal prosecutors said.
Some of his missives contained references to Barrymore, whom he complained to authorities never replied to his letters. Even though Steeves never met the actress, he believed they shared "common goals," FBI Special Agent Jennifer Burnett wrote in an affidavit.
A search of Steeves' home revealed an album of Barrymore photos, sealed letters to the FBI and a two-pound bag of baking soda that was more than half empty, Burnett wrote.

Juan Carlos Montenegro, 24, filed the report Sunday against Pesci. The 62-year-old actor, who won an Oscar for his role in 1990's "Goodfellas," hasn't been charged.
Sgt. Jeff Kelly said police weren't sure if the man who allegedly struck Montenegro was Pesci.
Pesci's lawyer, Jay Julien, didn't immediately return a call seeking comment Tuesday.
Montenegro declined comment, referring calls to his lawyer, Ramon Tourgeman, who also didn't immediately return a call.
According to the report, Montenegro said he took a picture of Pesci after the actor had refused his requests.
"Juan stated that Pesci then got furious and punched him in the mouth with his right fist," the report states.
The officer who compiled the report wrote that he saw swelling on the right corner of Montenegro's lip. The officer went to the parking lot but could find no witnesses.
London, UK :: While pregnant mommy Angelina Jolie rested at the five-star deluxe luxury Claridges hotel in Mayfair with son Maddox and daughter Zahara, daddy Brad Pitt enjoyed a night on the town of London . Brad Pitt had dinner at Italian restaurant Locanda Locatelli (Seymour Street, W1H 7JZ) with the dancing queen herself, Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie. Naked chef Jamie Oliver was also reportedly in attendance. Locanda Locatelli's decor is reminiscent of the New Romantic era and is London's hottest dining destination serving "brilliant risottos and handmade pasta, ravioli filled with melting shards of osso bucco, sweetbreads served with Roman agro-dolce, heavenly stuffed cabbage, baby mackerel with saffron [and] rabbit with polenta." YUM!

The seven finalists are:
King Kong - Mike Hopkins & Ethan Van der Ryn
Memoirs of a Geisha - Wylie Stateman
Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith - Ben Burtt & Matthew Wood
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - Randy Thom & Dennis Leonard
War of the Worlds - Richard King
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe - George Watters II & Richard Beggs
Walk the Line - Donald Sylvester
Okay, so...not exactly celebrities, but they are celebrities among themselves, especially Ben Burtt (who's been working on Star Wars since day one) and Randy Thom (who also did Forrest Gump...that Vietnam sequence...wow). Kind cool if you're into film production and the Oscars
It was pretty awesome. My classmates and I got to experience sound at absolute Academy Standards...which you don't often get, because theaters always screw around with the volume. Even though I hated Narnia, I have to say that that battle sequence sounds fucking amazing
They will announce the nominations Tuesday January 31st
Supermodel KATE MOSS has signed a deal with Virgin mogul RICHARD BRANSON to write her autobiography. The 31-year-old British beauty will reportedly focus part of her memoir on her recent troubles stemming from published stills from a video allegedly showing her using cocaine at a recording studio. Moss was subsequently dropped by a number of companies after a tabloid printed the pictures last September. She later spent time in rehab, releasing a statement saying, "I take full responsibility for my actions ... I also accept that there are various personal issues that I need to address and have started taking the difficult, yet necessary, steps to resolve them. I want to apologize to all of the people I have let down because of my behavior which has reflected badly on my family, friends, co-workers, business associates and others." Moss is reportedly earning $1.8 million for her book.
Michael's new remake single will be "You make me feel like a natural WHITE woman"
MANAMA, Bahrain - Pop star Michael Jackson was spotted shopping in a Bahrain mall on Wednesday, hiding his face behind a veil and donning a black robe traditionally worn by women in the Gulf.
He was with three children, apparently his own, who also had their faces covered by dark scarves. An unidentified woman accompanied them.
The pop star, who seems to be settling in the Persian Gulf, was seen leaving Marina Mall in the Bahrain capital, holding a child by the hand. On the way out a back door, he shook hands with security guards.
The woman — also dressed in the black robe called an abaya, jeans and a scarf that partially covered her face — had the two other children. All three children were wrapped in black scarves and wore yellow shirts and sweatpants or khakis without robes.
Since his June acquittal on child molestation charges in California, Jackson has made several trips to Bahrain as a guest of Sheik Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the son of Bahrain's king. He reportedly was negotiating a position as a consultant with a Bahrain-based company that plans to set up theme parks and music academies in the Middle East.
On the mall outing, Jackson wore an abaya, pants, a white shirt and men's shoes. His head and face were wrapped in a black veil and he also wore black gloves.
The veil, abaya and gloves were of a style typically worn by conservative Bahraini women.
The woman asked photographers to respect their privacy and told them they were scaring the children before they left in a white car with darkened windows.
AAJ Holdings Ltd., owned by Ahmed Abu Bakr Janahi, said it wants to hire the 47-year-old Jackson to give advice on setting up entertainment businesses. He reportedly is building a home in Bahrain, an island nation in the Persian Gulf linked to Saudi Arabia by a bridge.
In November, Jackson stirred controversy in the United Arab Emirates by entering the ladies room in a shopping mall. His publicist said Jackson, who arrived in Dubai as the guest of a champion rally driver, did not understand the Arabic sign on the door and left the bathroom when he realized his mistake.
But local newspapers reported that the performer was applying makeup in the woman's toilets in a Dubai mall. Jackson's host, Mohammed bin Sulayem, dismissed the story as rumor.

I love how he says the media is scarring his children. Yet he makes no mention of how his dressing in woman's clothing and having enough plastic surgery to make Janice Dickinson say "Damn" is not scarring to the children in the least. And the SCARRING part was based on something he said before in an interview. I realized the word used above was SCARING but thanks to the dipshit that felt the need to try to nitpick and be a total tool.
“Brokeback Mountain,” the movie about a gay cowboy love affair that recently won four Golden Globe awards and is expected to be in the Oscar hunt, will not play in any U.S. military theaters in Europe.
And not because it’s a gay cowboy love story.
The movie, which has received almost universally glowing reviews and was the nation’s top grossing film per theater last week, suffers from the same problem that kept many of last year’s Academy Award winners —“The Aviator” and “Sideways” among them — out of AAFES theaters: It was released late in the year by a small, independent movie studio.
When the Army and Air Force Exchange Service selects first-run movies, films from independent studios usually aren’t considered, said John Walters, AAFES motion picture program manager.

Now I think people are just making up controversy. I really didn't think the military would have shown this film. I mean, how could they? "Don't ask don't tell" but lets watch films about a same sex relationship. I think the military is wrong btw, who cares who our soldiers sleep with? And yes, I know they can serve if they keep it quiet, but I don't think they should have to hide it. Either it's okay or it's not.

And a photo that is NSFW. I don't know if it's been posted before. Doesn't look like Jake, but it does look like Heath. It's one of the photos that came up when I googled for Brokeback Mountain Images. Correction: Old photo, not Jake. I figured it was old, I just had not seen it.

What more, Trishelle, known for her hard-partying ways, was - just days before the couple made their debut on the scene - telling friends how happy she was with her new relationship with Steve-O.
"Trishelle found out about by seeing the paparazzi pics," a source close to the reality TV ho tells PerezHilton.com. "She is devastated."

When asked whether the current series could be her last, Teri - who plays single mum Susan Mayer - said: "I just think everything comes to a natural close at some stage, doesn't it?
"And the world of film does sound appealing again.
"It has always been my dream to make my own movie."
The saucy actress also confessed she takes pole dancing lessons to keep in shape.
She told Hot Stars magazine: "It's all geared around stripping moves and you actually dance on a pole.
I know it sounds funny, but it's great for all your muscles and it's actually really empowering because it's not about turning a guy on - it's about turning yourself on and learning to be comfortable with your own body."

Personally, I think this is wishful thinking. I could certainly do without Susan. Maybe she's just going to disappear someday?
Edit: The news is old that someone on the show was to be axed, but no one had a clue who it would be. This is a new wrinkle to the story and that is why I posted it. There had been no comments from any of the actresses about who might leave.
"If you watched E!'s Red Carpet Show, you saw Mariah Carey chat with host Isaac Mizrahi about her tight black and white satin Chanel couture gown at the 2006 Golden Globe Awards. She said that Karl Lagerfeld specially designed the dress for her in Paris while singing his praise: "We love him. Yes, we think Mr. Karl Lagerfeld is a genius."
But the truth behind the story is that Mariah never intended to wear the Chanel dress in the first place. Mariah's inital plan was to rock an Escada gown, but since it did not arrive in time for her to grease herself into it, she opted for the Chanel number.
This explains why Chanel's Globes press release (naming actresses in Chanel) didn't include Mariah. Escada's loss was Chanel's gain. The dress she was going to wear is rumoured to be a $50 000 one-of-a-kind creation inspired by Monet's water lily painting."
IMO mariah looked awful at the GGs (ghetto hairstyle and all). I think the Escada gown is beautiful (as an art piece) but would have also been a horrible choice (that neck would have made her look even bigger!). She needs to make some BIG improvements for the Grammys.
Hargitay, 42, who plays NYPD Det. Olivia Benson on the NBC series, writes in her online blog: "Not sure if you've heard, but the producers have decided not to make Olivia pregnant, so I won't be in a few episodes. But don't worry, the writers are working on some really great story lines, and there will be a special guest star filling in for me."
For Hargitay and her husband, Peter Hermann, this will be their first child together. Earlier this week, the New York Post reported that the arrival will be a boy.
The couple met on the show, where Hermann, 38, has a recurring role. They wed in Santa Barbara, Calif. in August 2004 in front of 200 guests.
"They're mad about each other," wedding planner Yifat Oren, told PEOPLE at the time. "And they're hilariously funny together."
Hargitay's mother is blonde bombshell Jayne Mansfield, who died in a 1967 car crash at age 34. Her father is Hungarian bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay, 80, a former Mr. Universe.
Oh man, I love her to death! I had no idea she was pregnant, though. And holy crap! I didn't know Jayne Mansfield was her mother!
Richard Hatch, who won $1 million in the first season of Survivor, was found guilty Wednesday of failing to pay taxes on his winnings.
Hatch, 44, faces up to 13 years in prison and a fine of $600,000.
Jurors deliberated for less than a day after more than a week of testimony.
One possible explanation for Hatch's failure to pay taxes was raised by his lawyer toward the end of the trial but was never mentioned in the jury's presence.
Hatch's lawyer, Michael Minns, said Hatch caught fellow contestants cheating and struck a deal with producers for the show to pay his taxes if he won. But, ultimately, Hatch was never asked about the allegation when he testified.
Instead, Minns told jurors that Hatch, who lives in Newport, was the "world's worst bookkeeper" and said his client never meant to do anything wrong.
Hatch testified that he thought producers were supposed to pay his Survivor taxes, and said the donations he took from his charity were far less than the money he had already poured into it.

i've been curious about the fate of natasha since she was in the hospital those months ago. apparently she's out, but not better:
I saw Natasha Lyonne on 14th between 2nd and 3rd at about 7pm. She was walking and eating a hot dog and was wearing ripped dark clothing. At first I didn’t recognize her b/c she currently weighs about 90 lbs at most and had sores/scabs all over her face especially near the nose area - but since she was so out of it I decided to move closer to her and confirmed.
I can hardly believe it but I’m pretty certain I saw Natasha Lyonne yesterday at Duane Reade on 34th and 5th Ave. I wouldn’t have noticed her but she was startled by a security guard trying to get ahead of her. Not to be blunt—but there is no other way to put it—she looked like a homeless crack whore. She was extremely thin, and her clothes were hanging off of her, had sores all over her face, was wearing a cap but it looked as if she was balding. Someone needs to get this girl in rehab- stat.

Singer Brandy playing games with video firm
By John Gaudiosi
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Brandy Norwood, the actress and musician best known solely by her first name, is extending her talents into the video game world.
She will provide her voice and likeness, and help develop the story line for a sci-fi/action game that will ship in the first quarter of 2007.
The game comes from Matty/Markus Games, a Los Angeles-based firm founded by director Matty Rich ("Straight Out of Brooklyn") and video game veteran Frederic Markus ("Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure.")
Brandy, who has sold more than 14 million albums worldwide, also will develop an original soundtrack for the as-yet-untitled game. Besides hearing this exclusive music in the new game, the release schedule calls for the CD of the soundtrack to go on sale right before the video game ships.
"An original soundtrack from artists that we build games around will be part of our release model at Matty/Markus Games," said Rich, who is working with rapper The Game on an original Mature-rated lowrider street-racing PSP game for release in the fall. A video game soundtrack will be released before that title's release as well.
According to the Entertainment Software Assn., 40% of gamers today are female. Rich said his plan is to provide a strong female protagonist for gamers as an alternative to the typical female caricatures games often feature.
"Brandy will play a strong female character who is put into a situation that she must react to -- one which has the fate of the world hinging on it," said Rich, who added that he wants to incorporate Brandy's personality, emotions and music into the game.
"She'll play a very dynamic character," Rich said. "The success of games like 'Tomb Raider' has shown that there's a need for strong female characters."
Ray J was just on the UPN news talking about how he used to run in gangs, etc. But in the end they reported that he and Brandy are working on a new album consisting of R&B oldies and a couple new songs -- to be released later this year or next.
Hopefully this is just PART of the stuff they're working on.

George Galloway has been evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother house.
The politician was first out in tonight's surprise double eviction, having polled more viewer votes than fellow nominees Dennis and Chantelle.
George simply smiled as the result was announced, despite a huge boo erupting from the assembled crowd.
With just thirty seconds to leave, George said a quick farewell to each housemate in turn before exiting the house.
The housemates are unaware that a second eviction will take place later this evening. Stick with DDS:BB for the latest in the hours ahead!
LONDON (AFP) - Prince Harry, completing his army officer training, has chosen to join a regiment which could be deployed in Iraq.
Harry, 21, third in line to the throne, has opted to join the Blues and Royals regiment of the Household Cavalry, his father Prince Charles's Clarence House residence said Wednesday.
The Household Cavalry are expected to be deployed to Iraq in the future.
He could also have to guard Queen Elizabeth II, his grandmother.
Harry is due to complete his officer training at Britain's elite Sandhurst military college in April. He will become a second lieutenant in the cavalry once commissioned as an officer.
A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "It's fair to say that if his squadron goes to Iraq, he will probably go with it."
The prince could see front-line action if officials allow him to take part.
A Clarence House spokesman said: "He based his decision on the variety of roles which the regiment undertakes, including reconnaissance support to airborne forces right through to ceremonial duties."
Harry hopes to become an armoured reconnaissance troop leader at the forefront of army operations.
In an interview to mark his 21st birthday in September, Harry insisted he would be willing to serve on the front line once his training days as Officer Cadet Wales are over.
"There's no way I'm going to put myself through Sandhurst and then sit on my arse back home while my boys are out fighting for their country.
"That may sound very patriotic, but it's true. It's not the way anyone should really work."
The last British royal to see military action was Harry's uncle Prince Andrew, who flew as a helicopter pilot in the Falklands War in 1982.

Starbucks may fill coffee cups, iPods
Customers at Starbucks may soon be able to say "I'll take a Double Mocha Latte and fill up my iPod."
The ubiquitous coffee chain already sells music CDs with its coffees but soon may offer on-the-fly MP3 downloads.
"A lot of our customers are asking for device fill-up, and going forward we'll do that," said Ken Lombard, president of Starbucks Entertainment, at the Midem music industry conference in Cannes.
The chain hasn't yet set a date for moving into music player downloads and is still talking to various companies about the technology, Lombard said.
