Bill murray was on hand for the Manhattan High School Hall of Fame induction ceremony Friday night. The ceremony took place between the boys' and girls' basketball games.
Del Close, Inger Strensland, Bill Buzenberg and Deb Richard were all inducted. Murray was under the guidance of Close at the Second City comedy theater in Chicago, where Murray got his start.
Murray spoke to the students and fans for about six minutes, at times becoming lighthearted in delivering a serious message about believing in yourself, the way Close believed in him and in himself in going on to a successful career.
Murray also said Close taught him to always remember where you came from.
"Del Close was always proud to say he was from Manhattan, Kansas," Murray told them.
