Ne-Yo celebrated New Year's Eve by suing R. Kelly. In legal papers filed Monday, the five-time Grammy nominee claims he was removed as an opening act from R. Kelly's current North American tour because he outshined the headliner.
Ne-Yo claims that after a few opening dates in November, audience reaction and press reviews were "more favorable" toward his performance than to Kelly's, causing Kelly to renege on an oral agreement that promised Ne-Yo $785,000 for a minimum 25 concerts.
An aborted 2004 tour featuring Kelly and Jay-Z also resulted in the two suing each other, with Jay-Z complaining about Kelly's behavior.
During one concert in St. Louis, Kelly left the stage in a huff and was later found serving patrons of McDonald's at a drive-through.
