Overrated ‘Stranger Things’ Breakout Star Joseph Quinn Signs With CAA



After his breakout role as the overrated but beloved Eddie Munson on Stranger Things Vol. 4, British actor Joseph Quinn has found a new agency as he has signed with CAA. He met with representatives from all three major talent agencies in the United States – CAA, WME, and UTA, according to Deadline. Ultimately, CAA won out.

The way everyone is hyping him and Eddie up, should be a big indicator for the Doofus how bad their overall writing is - when people latch onto a new character they have just introduced that hard with a fucking ensemble cast on a mystery horror show with so many open questions… IDK my dudes. It's because they don't know what to do with half the OG cast and it's kind of embarrassing? Like, they say they don't want to kill characters off because they're not "Game of Thrones" but I think that's missing the real issue. Like, I am 100% okay with none of the characters dying but then figure tf out what to do with them! Like, Mike is literally just there to mope over El. Jonathan literally had one single scene I cared about these past three seasons (the convo with Will). And they also don't know what to do with Will when he's not suffering or pining! And Hopper's storyline in Russia was boring and not needed lol. Even Steve's whole "oh Nancy's actually the one for me" schtick proves to me that they don't know what to do with him either and just keep him around cuz he's a fan favorite.

I really can't with the ST writing lmfao.

Honestly, there is no original character they know what to do with - if you don’t count Max as an OC and I personally don‘t. Even her story this season fell completely flat.
They don’t even know what to do with Eleven anymore. Like, her big plot this season was her daddy issues combined with bitching over a boy not saying ILY to her. But we already knew what great feminists the Doofus are.

The writers don't seem to get that characters, even main OG characters, can have arcs that end after one or two seasons and that's it for them. They're not needed anymore and it's ok!

Like, Jonathan had a great story arc in season 1 but he did nothing since then. Move his ass to college and downgrade the actor to recurring/guest star!
Hopper had the best send-off at the end of season 3. His death was meaningful for El and the Byers in particular. But nope! Season 4 Hopper's survival story in Russia dragged down everyone involved and what is the damn point of this character now outside of having ridiculous Herculian strength and having long boring monologues? He should've stayed a rotting corpse somewhere.

Why would they take any lesson from this season other than to keep on making more in the same way? I think they really dropped the ball the last two episodes but press and buzz were huge. And in their minds, I imagine that it’s just seemed like every season the new stuff gets huge buzz. I don’t think there’s any way they realize how goofy the writing has gotten. (But, like every season, they are propped up by fantastic casting, cool ideas, and nostalgia.)

i mean this has happened before back in season one. everyone was just talking about barb to the point that shannon purser got an emmy nom for the role and was the only other cast member besides the kids who was featured in the opening of the 2017 golden globes. season two had steve, and season three wanted it to be alexei but ultimately it was no one because season three sucked. season four is eddie.

Not to say that the writing is a masterpiece but I feel like this is a reach. He has loud-ass fans who won't shut up about him because he's a white guy or whatever, but the fans of the show are still all about the last season's mystery from what I saw.

Tbh I feel like people who dismiss the fan response to Eddie as "it's weird because it's just a new white guy and he was barely in the show" are really underestimating how many metal fans there are in the world, and how stoked they are to see a cool metalhead character who becomes a hero in a mainstream streaming show. I like Stranger Things, so does my husband, but we've never been rabid fans or anything. Took us a while to get through this season because the episodes were too long, lol. But we're both metalheads and were stoked about Eddie, and tbh this season really was a gift to metal fans. Seeing how the metal community has totally embraced this character and is still talking about him, covering Master of Puppets in fun ways on TikTok, making funny "Chrissy wake up" videos...it's just been a really fun time.

I don't disagree with this, but I think Joseph was actually really affecting and did a great job, he had some cool moments and it spawned some memes. I'm sure there are some crazies taking things far, but I think he deserves some hype.

After seeing him in other roles like Dickensian and Strike, I think he's a legitimate talent and I'm glad he's gonna be getting more opportunities. I think he has the potential to become a true chameleon-like actor. His character in Timewasters is nothing like his character in Strike who's nothing like Eddie Munson etc etc etc. Love to see a talented king thriving.

Same! I liked him as Eddie, he seems sweet and rather weirded out by the extent of the response but I wouldn't mind seeing him in other stuff. From what I have seen, he's been good and uh, nothing at all like Eddie lol.

I haven't been on ontd in ages (I can see comments from 2020 in my 'last comments posted' section on lj oop) but I enjoyed Stranger Things Season 4 and his arc was pretty engaging. Did it have flaws, yes (lose that Nancy love triangle pls, everything else about her is awesome, also they could have used maybe 30 percent less time in Russia and give that time to poor Cali crew), but it's also not the trash fire I see ontd calling it and nor do I agree with the assessment that all the OG cast are useless and need to die/be shipped out of town. Sadie and Millie were incredible this season, I'm sick of comments pitting them against each other but then ontd has been doing that since Season 2. And I may be in the minority here but I thought Mike's big speech to El was perfect - worded and delivered with all the sincerity and awkwardness of a 15 year old boy.

it feels like every day i read something new about his stans chasing him down or stalking and harassing him/his friends/his family, fuck those weirdos who snuck into his hotel's pool to demand pictures. this attention he's getting from "fans" burns bright and hot but is bound to crash soon, "barb" style. some people on twitter already decided jeremy allen white is the new white boy of the month and by the time st5 rolls around most non-die hard stans will have forgotten about eddie.

Yeah. I participate in these posts because they relate to things I *do* like. And I get liking just random characters or actors a lot. But I really don’t feel this one.

Logically though, I think there’ve been a few compounding factors:

1- In the pseudo-post-pandemic era people have gotten desperate for big communal fandom experiences. So once one takes off it snowballs

2- the break before the last two episodes allowed a huge build in fandom and made the hype for a likeable, tragic, misunderstood rebel bigger than normal.

3- Joe Quinn crying multiple times at press and fan events has driven the fangirls to fucking crack levels of fanaticism. There is nothing bonkers fandom likes more than an emotionally vulnerable white boy to stan. It plays into a lot of fantasies about fandom cinnamon rolls and “too pure for this world” weird shit.

Just a near perfect storm.

I've noticed how when a female celebrity is the hot thing, it's because of how sexy she is to straight men. When its a male celebrity, it's because of how "cute' he is. Straight women love infantalizing men (idk a better word for it).
