Ewan McGregor wants to do more seasons of Obi-Wan

Ewan McGregor told GQ: "I really hope we do another. If I could do one of these every now and again — I’d just be happy about it."

Hayden Christensen is also in favor of coming back to play Darth Vader: "You know, I think there’s certainly more there to explore and I would be so excited to get to do so ... I would certainly be open to [returning for ‘Obi-Wan’ Season 2]."

The creative team is less certain about another season. Director Deborah Chow says there would have to be a good reason to do another season. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy says it would be considered if there's huge fan engagement and people really want to see more.

I'm like halfway through the finale, so I'm gonna stay out of this post until I can finish.

But I wanted to say that while I really enjoyed the show, I think more seasons could be difficult just because of the constraints of established canon. Like it's hard to create conflict and tension when like, we all have seen the original trilogy. We all know Obi-wan isn't going to defeat Vader. We also all know that Obi-wan and Luke and Leia aren't going to die.

I think that for this season, they avoided that by having the conflict be internal- focused on Obi-wan's character growth. Idk if they can repeat that in other seasons though.
I agree with you. You explained it better than I have to a couple of people, lol.

That said, if there were at least one more season I would totally enjoy watching it, I'm sure.
Do your thing, honey.

I wouldn't mind more, but I'm not going to be heartbroken if there isn't. I think they managed to get a lot of the emotional story and character beats that I wanted from the series into the episodes.

The scene in the season finale was so beautifully done. I ended up crying at a certain point.

Overall, I think the series works because McGregor & Christensen (and James Earl Jones) really seem to give a fuck about the characters and it shows in their performance. Honestly think McGregor has done some of his best acting work in this series.
I like the idea of more seasons in theory but I think it would be difficult to make it work both with or without Vader after this season.

your icon is gorgeous!
Do we know that Jones was involved? Rumor has it Vader's voice was digitally created the way Luke Skywalker's was for The Book of Boba Fett, without the involvement of Mark Hamill.

I was really excited for this but honestly? I'm good.
i hope they don't, because i thought they told all the story they should in this one, but i assume they will

i missed the earlier discussion post, but for fellow rebels stans who have seen the finale: [Spoiler (click to open)]they went all in on twilight of the apprentice parallels and i live for it
[Spoiler (click to open)]From the second he said "then you will die!!" I was like fuck! Twilight of the Apprentice! Then they really went for the helmet and the voice mixing and I loved it. I have an ahsoka icon so obv I stan the animated series but seeing it in live action was really something else.
This show was a great bridge between RotS and ANH. There really doesn't need to be another season and another conflict with Vader would be kind of pointless because what they did already was perfect. Like how many times can Obi kick his ass and not kill him?

Although if they did a season of him and Ahsoka on some adventure that would be cool, but since she's getting her own show it's not necessary.
I think this was enough, even though I'd love more Obi-Wan and Leia. I, however, would LOOVEE to see another show based on Reva and her redemption arc since we never got a Asajj Ventress show.

"If I could do one of these every now and again — I’d just be happy about it." HAHA Yeah I bet you love the Disney money that would come from it every now and again, Ewan. Tbh I would love a set-up like that.
One thing I was kind of surprised wasn’t done in the finale was a scene where Obi-Wan tried to turn Anakin back to the light. I thought they’d try to make a connection to Vader’s line in Return of the Jedi to Luke saying “Obi-Wan once thought as you do.”

Overall the finale was satisfying. [Spoiler (click to open)]All the dialogue after Vader’s helmet gets partly torn off was heartbreaking. 💔
I feel like they did connect it, but in a more subtle way. The way that [Spoiler (click to open)]Obi-Wan still calls him Anakin, even when Vader tells him Anakin is gone, and "I am what remains." Which means even now, even at that point, he still thought of Vader as Anakin, as his former apprentice. I love the way they played with the blue/red light in that scene. Especially after Obi-Wan apologizes... the way blue/red played on the exposed half of Vader's face, wonderful. In some ways Vader telling Obi-Wan that he wasn't his failure was a mercy, and I wonder if it was coincidental that they let the blue light play on Vader's face more dominantly during that dialogue before it shifted back to red.
These are good points! You’re right about the lighting, it worked so well. Also, the different voices, combining Anakin and Vader, worked really well in that scene.

I wonder if Vader said that as a mercy to Obi-Wan or to brag at what he sees as Vader’s strength and accomplishments. That relationship is so tragic, any moments like this that dig into it a bit more are so great.

"Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy says it would be considered if there's huge fan engagement and people really want to see more."
I mean, yeah, after the myriad of aggressive tweets from his fanboys (with *k likes) proclaiming that this show had the best acting in the whole franchise, etc etc (when, you know, the whole Rogue One ensemble and Oscar Isaac exist, but whatever), and that nothing in this universe is better than Kenobi😂
I’d 100% watch it but I think I’d rather watch other characters/storylines for now. Give us a Sequels show!!
I only care about Vader if he's part of a Doctor Aphra show
I tried watching the first ep and will get through it all eventually but I struggle with getting to anything Star Wars. I want to like it but I can’t keep track of anything fantasy and I don’t know why. All that to say, give Hayden Christensen his career back please!! I loved him pre-Star Wars and think it’s so crazy he just got shitcanned from Hollywood because the prequels didn’t work perfectly.
Your comment reminds me I need to do a rewatch of Life as a House and Shattered Glass at some point.
I’m so happy that Hayden is getting his flowers.
bb don't force yourself to like something! If you can't get into that type of movie/media, it's ok. Fantasy and Sci-Fi definitely are not easy things to get into or enjoy and its nbd if you're not into it. Much like period dramas, they aren't for everyone.

I say this as someone who's friends are also not into fantasy/sci fi or period drama movies lol So they feel bad they can't join me in my excitement for these types of things but I know that they bore them or don't really see the entertainment value so I just enjoy them on my own :3
I think a Vader series would be cool. but idk about more obi wan unless they can make it really different and exciting. and it would be nice to see him back to his powerful self for a full season!
I’d love a Vader series if they had Padme flashback/dream sequences. I just want her back 😞
And then retcon the end of RotS so she doesn't die like RIGHT after giving birth because she just like gives up or whatever. lol

I went down a Star Wars comic rabbit hole years ago, there's a lot of Vader comic storyline material they could use for Padme flashbacks/dream sequences. Get on it, Disney!

I'd also love as series where they tackle the resistance of queens on Naboo after Padme dies. Lots of cool stuff there.

I'm kind of sad she wasn't mentioned to Vader at all during this series.

I got my hopes up even though I shouldn't but I'm forever going to hold a grudge against this show for paying Padme dust. How can a show that involves her children, her close friends and her psychotic husband who's obsessed with her not even say her name? I worry that even in a Vader show, they would gloss over her importance to him because Disney has some kind of vendetta against her
That’s just easy money to them… too easy
Vader having a bitch fit at the end about doing everything to find Obi Wan and Palpatine being like ”…….you seem agitated” 😂
Palps went to the Willam Belli School of Passive Aggression
