Hunter Schafer officially joins ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’



After being rumored to have joined the cast, Variety has officially confirmed Hunter Schafer has joined the upcoming Hunger Games prequel.

Schafer will play Tigris Snow, the cousin and confidante of Coriolanus Snow.

They never should've made the last book a two part movie. Studios were so greedy at that time, everyone was copying Harry Potter even when the movie didn't need to be two parts

If anything, they should have split book 5 into two movies. They butchered that book to death that the movie was like the bare bones of it all. I'm still mad how much they took out of the Department of Mysteries and that Neville didn't even get his moment of being with his parents in St. Mungos. 7 didn't need 2 movies but they did it anyway and still ruined how Voldemort was defeated instead of the much better way in the book.

The absolute worst was The Hobbit splitting the conclusion into 2 movies. It was blatant that it was spread out unnecessarily.

I legit didn’t even know this book happened. I don’t think this series is going to have the long term appeal that HP does. HP has magic and a decent number of happy moments in it. You want to go to hogwarts. Nobody wants to volunteer as tribute. That isn’t something we daydream about.

That’s because the last book was such a fucking bummer/letdown. The ending was so depressing and Katniss literally never got anything she wanted and I don’t want to hear shit from the Peeta apologists!!

Wearing someone down over several years of isolation is not the same as her wanting to get married and have kids ~she just didn’t know it.

I liked The Hunger Games. I read the prequel in 2020 and was underwhelmed, it isn't as good.

Also thank you for posting this update, OP, I'm really interested to see how they adapt this film. Especially after thinking more about how the book relies so much on Snow's introspective perspective... how will they get that duality of Snow's outward appearance versus his constant inward shittiness across?

And yes, I think we talked about how hard this will be to adapt and not have Snow come off as this person who was initally maybe not so bad but then turned evil by circumstances while in the book it was always clear that he was self-serving and without remorse.

They don't seem to be greatly interested in the casting announcements (though I might have missed it) unless it's somebody super well know but I looked around a bit on Deadline – apparently they cast Rachel Zegler's fellow Westside Story actor, Josh Andrés Rivera, as Sejenus Plinth aka the thorn in Snow's side.

There are also some announcements on tributes and mentors here and here.

Still really waiting for Lysistrata to be cast but at least we now know who will play Jessup, her mentee and Lucy Gray's fellow district tribute and part-time ally before and in the arena. Probably best known (at least to me) is the actress they cast for Clemensia – I remember Ashley Diao from last season of AppleTV's "Physical".

I'm curious who they'll get for the Grandma'am. And now that the Hunter Schafer rumour turned out to be true if Viola Davis is really going to be in it and as Dr. Gaul no less.

Thank you for the other casting information!! I had no idea they'd cast so many of the other characters. Josh Andrés Rivera stood out to me in West Side Story, so I'm interested to see what he does with the character.

Verrry curious to see about the Viola Davis rumor as well. I imagine it's likely, as you said, since the Hunter Schafer rumor turned out to be legit.

I've been re-reading parts of the book and yeah, I am concerned with their ability to translate book Snow onto the screen. The only things I can think of would be hokey... a diary? Some sort of introspective moments? Maybe they could have only the grandmother know the real Snow, having him vent to the grandmother the things that he says in his head in the book, but even that seems a bit OTT.

My biggest pet peeve about fan reviews of the book were people who seemed shocked that he kept making terrible choices, so I really hope they do try to make it clear that he's always been self-serving, he's always been calculating, narcissistic, etc. It's always been about Snow--he was just good at hiding it from others until it was too late.
