I didn’t know the series has started but when I realized an episode was airing I switched channels and THAT was the scene I was greeted with.
I have finally seen the rimming scene and I just needed to tell someone lmao

this show is so good. toni colette is the best actress on the planet tbh.
PERIOD

I really can't stop repeating it: TONI IS BEYOOOOOND, she can do anything, one of the most diverse careers, despite being a critic's darling i still feel she's quite underrated, meryl streep could never, etc!!!!!
how is this on max and the terrible sounding time traveler's wife is on proper hbo
i was shocked when i realized this was just a max original with its quality and the acting prestige attached. weird choice & i hope it doesn’t screw its emmy chances bc i want toni to get one lmao.
truly a disgrace. there's no proper promotion as well, not even promo videos for new episodes?
There are post-episode.
god, i thought kathleen's death reenactment in ep 2 was disturbing but the one in ep 4 was even worse. and i think it's quite plausible tbh, i think he killed her but i don't think it was premeditated
I haven’t watched 4 yet, would that be the beating death?
no it's [Spoiler (click to open)]he pushes her and she hits her head, then he strangles her for a bit but he essentially lets her die, he initially picks up the phone to call the ambulance (i'm presuming) but then he puts it down

Even worse?! Jesus christ. How far into the ep is it just so I can be ready for it lol? The ep 2. One made me feel faint so maybe I’ll just fast forward through it

I think she saw the emails, they had a blazing row and he killed in her the heat of the moment
He definitely killed her. I can’t remember how he got out of prison after being sentence to life. That rarely ever happens.

man i remember thinking it during the doc as well but her death is one of the most horrific i’ve seen/heard about, and i’m a huge horror fan
Also I am ROCKED at how well Firth nailed Peterson, it’s a great performance.

me too lmao i didn’t think he had it in him. he nailed his voice and mannerisms and it’s natural enough it doesn’t feel like a high-brow snl impression. he is infuriating me. it’s a great performance for sure
It's eerie
He is truly incredible. He better sweep!
my friends who loved the doc put ep 1 of this on and were like 'you don't understand, this is truly eerie'.
it really is so good, he has all the mannerisms
It’s so dead-on. His bizarre way of speaking with his like…lower lip kind of curled in and his voice coming out of the back of his throat with a slight affected accent, and the theatrical way that he spoke in general; I was like wtf I didn’t know Colin Firth was this good!
I don't like that this is a series. It just feels really... exploitative of the victim. We don't really know what happened to his third and fourth wives; he's never confessed.
Wait….third and fourth?
Yeah, I think his first two wives are living, but his third and fourth wives died or went missing

Is it for sure going to be a series? I know it says season 1 but doesn’t HBO put that on everything now, even what would technically be a mini-series?

ikwym about the exploitation (i feel weird about fictionalized true crime being the new hot genre) but, in this specific case, the show is interested in exposing and exploring the biases that shaped the docuseries, like the fact that the woman who edited it had a romantic relationship with him, so it’s bringing in perspectives and facts from the case a lot of people have never seen bc the doc has been there only exposure to it.

and sadly kathleen has already been so exploited. this at least is a depiction that’s giving her humanity and a voice. but i do think there’s still critiques to be made with the whole phenomenon & obv the larger true crime craze in general. 😕

Ya’ll, he has only been married twice and his first wife is alive. It was a family friend in Germany who also died after falling down the stairs.

I know what you mean. With the Depp vs. Heard trial and how people are eating that up like it's a TV series and all these shows being made about women who have been murdered, I'm all tapped out.

You are thinking of Drew Peterson. He is a piece of shit cop that was married 4 times. His last wife was a really young woman who has never been found.

the casting for this show is amazinggg. id watched the doc and was blown away ngl.
I think I ruined this show by watching the doc like a month ago... though i didnt get through the whole thing, it felt very strange.
i did the opposite and the documentary is pretty underwhelming by comparison.

I'm kind of glad I didn't watch it first tbh
Pretty much just echoing everyone else but: I’m conflicted about this show bc it is gross that it exists in general like this is real peoples/victims lives so it’s automatically gross. (Even tho I’ll adore and champion perpetually underrated and under-awarded Toni until the day I die.)

I haven’t seen this ep yet but the death scene in the other ep was almost like traumatising it was so so hard to watch it made me feel lightheaded and sick tbh. Too realistic. Which obvi is a testament to Toni Collette’s abilities but still Jesus fucking christ. And Colin firth is nailing it too he’s got this dudes mannerisms, voice, smugness, assholeness down.

JUST LET TONI COLLETTE PLAY LADY THAT HAS A GOOD TIME AND NOTHING BAD HAPPENS TO HER EVER.
I don't think it was premeditated but he def killed her, most likely they had an argument and he shoved her or something and she tripped and fell and he panicked.

I've been raging all week because one of the hosts of my favorite podcast is being contrarian and saying the owl theory is plausible lol
That damn owl theory! I mean, freaky things sometimes happen in life, but that theory is so weak
The first time I heard about this case was through that owl theory. It was an episode of Criminal and I swear it was presented as fact. When I came across the case later I saw the owl theory is just a load of crap!! I’ll have to listen to it again but I’m sure the take away was “and the owl did it, isn’t that wild!”
Believing the Owl Theory? That's a hoot!
Lara Marie Schoenhaals?
Yessss lmao I was like I love you but you're being illogical rn

It's so fucked up when they depict real people naked and/or having sex. Like, what was the damn point of showing "Kathleen's" breasts as she's getting a massage?
toni's second emmy on LOCK!
Colin’s accent freaks me out, he nailed it.

Toni acting out Kathleen’s possible deaths is extremely disturbing to me.
if it makes you feel any better, it's her two stunt doubles doing most of the work during the death scenes
I don't plan on watching this, but I hope it's less biased than the documentary
