ONTD Original: What We're Watching

spongebob-squarepants-patrick-star.gif

ONTD's new breakout series is back! Have you watched Station Eleven's season finale? How bout that last episode of Yellowjackets?! Did you tap into some oldie but goodies that were shared in the last post like Ghost (BBC), Stranger (Kdrama), and the Leftovers? Personally, I've made zero progress on my Succession watch as I had to read a book by yesterday 😅.

Rant, rave, rage away!

I tried watching The Witcher but its boring :/
How far in did you make it?

I found that if you can push through to episode 4, you'll either find yourself getting into it or if you don't like it by then, you never will.
Oh okay, i literally couldnt even get through ep 1 and the weird part abt the raped princess really just took me out

Same. Tried through season 2, but eh. It’s like Xena/Hercules but without the charm, if that makes sense. It takes itself way too seriously for what it is.

Yeah I actually like a fair amount of fantasy and sci-fi and just couldn’t push through. It’s like the greyscale bled off the screen.
my issue was that every new character was a white guy with long hair and a dirty face. WHO??!? the face blindness was real.
IA. I don't think it's that great
I'm almost done with Welcome to Plathville season 3. Protect everyone except the parents.
I finished the first season of WtP.

Started the second season but never finished it, thanks for reminding me. I had no idea they were already on season 3.
Neither did I until like 2 weeks ago lol I got into it because I follow Fundie Fridays on youtube and she reviews the seasons.
You are a braver soul than me. I watched the first and couldn’t stomach anymore. The parents absolutely annoy me and disturb me.

The parents creep me out, especially the dad. I feel so bad for the kids still living in that house. All the children (older and young) seem genuinely kind hearted and caring.

I forgot about this show after season 1! I'm going to catch up now
I am so I love with yellowjackets!! I hope it doesn't burn out since it's supposed to be 5 seasons.
Am quite liking Yellowjackets, though I'm nervous to get too into it and become disappointed if it starts getting way too convoluted, like so many other shows these days
I'm so in love with that show it's not even funny.

Like spending an hour just browsing through the instagrams of the whole cast type of love lol They're so precious, I love all of them.
I love how close they all are!
9-1-1 Lonestar because of ONTD UNPROBLEMATIC BOYFRIEND RAFAEL SILVA.
I started watching Pen15 and I like it but it's a little too real so I don't think I can continue =\
I have a really hard time watching it because of that! I am still somewhere in late S1, I think, and we started watching it like two years ago, lol.
Same! I didn't have a particularly bad experience in school, but I just find it so triggering. It unearths all the alienation and loneliness that you sometimes feel at that age.
did you like it from the jump or did it take a while? i'm struggling to get through the 1st ep
I think I got to episode 3 before I tapped out
I couldn't get into it, the secondhand embarrassment was too much. And I can usually tolerate a fair amount of it from other shows but that one, woof.
It made me feel feelings I haven’t felt since middle school (I was in middle school around that time, a couple years earlier). Sometimes in a good way, sometimes bad, but super impressively
no i get you. it literally taps into the awkwardness of middle school and idk if i want to go through that
making my way through s3 of a discovery of witches
shit i didn't even realize it was up. and i can't remember ANYTHING about the first two seasons sigh i gotta find a recap
lol I absolutely love that ridiculous show but I’ve been so busy lately I haven’t even finished season 2 🙊 I’ll make sure to come back to the next post to talk about it when I catch up
Wait.. what. Its out already?!?!

I'm super late to this post, but I'm working all day Sat/Sun and then have the week off so I guess that's what I am doing.
Finished season 4 of cobra kai yesterday. so good and so fun. everything i could ask for after not watching anything really since the succession finale
I started watching The Nanny because I needed something easy and a lot of it is super cute and certain scenes were like vivid flashbacks to my youth. But damn the fat shaming / thin culture of the 90s is hard to take.

Fran Drescher still has so much of it internalized to this day. In her 13 looks breakdown for Vogue, I noticed how much she refers to her weight on the show and now. A lot of it was “I’ll never be this skinny again”.

I did read that a lot of her weight stuff and how skinny she was then was tied into a horrific event that happened before The Nanny. But just generally that era was awful. Not that we're really that much better now but it still feels very startling to go back to some of those older shows and see just how casually people are tossing fat jokes and how TINY all the women were.
Ty OP for these posts!

- Star Wars Visions - short anime type eps on Disney+ - inventive stories

- The Expanse - final episode tonight - one of my fave shows

- The Boys rewatch starting tomorrow -S3 is out starting June 3
I'm gonna rewatch the Boys closer to the release date of season 3. I really can't wait.
Same I can't wait!

I was talking to my friend about the promo and I couldn't remember Starlight's name - I need to refresh my memory so I'm watching sooner! 🤣

Watching Mad About You currently. It's nice watching a short show, goes by fast. I think I'm going to watch Buffy or Charmed next. I just finished the 100 and tbh I did not like it 90% of the time but I finished it anyway.
I remember the episode with the fudge when I was kid lol
Episodes like that one make me remember how I used to watch this with my mom, and I cringe.
The 100 is such an annoying show, but it's just involving enough to keep you invested during a binge of it. Sometimes the absolutely idiotic politics most of the leaders show really resonate with me now though, it feels too accurate 🥴

The 100 went way off the rails, and I don’t think I ever really liked Clarke
the 100 goes to straight garbage after s2 i honestly cant believe it ran for as long as it did

I’m watching Bunheads for the first time. The fast talking is even more distracting in this than it was in Gilmore Girls.
a throwback! what made you want to start it?
It was added to Disney+
plus there’s dancing. and after watching Younger I now like Sutton Foster and will watch anything she’s in :D

It’s fun spotting all the GG alum
Did you like it? I think it's actually better than GG/Maisel

I really liked Bunheads. I can't remember how far I got into it because I think I dropped it when I found out it was cancelled. Made me like Sutton at the time
that show had potential. the ballerinas were my favourite part, and Emily Gilmore of course (I don't remember her character name on that show lol)
That was a cute show! And the fast-talking really does make it obvious it's the same people who did Gilmore Girls haha.

I never found the fast talking convincing from anyone on this show besides Kelly Bishop, Liza Weil and Bailey De Young (Ginny), but it was most glaring with Sutton Foster. She just comes off as frazzled and annoyed with it
lol i thought bunheads was cute but the dialogue was definitely a LOT
Obsessed with Bunheads.
Generally not big on network sitcoms, but I'm loving Abbott Elementary so far - haven't watched the most recent ep yet, but the first two were fantastic.

Also enjoying Grand Crew - the first episode was a little rough, especially with the weird bookend narrator, but I liked the second one a lot. It's wild to see all these comedians I've seen on stage for years in their own TV shows now!!

Only three eps into Station Eleven but I am digging it - gonna finish that and then tackle Yellowjackets.
Abbott Elementary is so good already! I really hope it's renewed since we need a good slowburn sitcom couple.

Grand Crew is definitely rougher but I hope it survives too. I miss the old days when a show had a season or two to find it's feet; they have the talent, the writing just isn't quire there yet.
yeah, agreed! like Parks & Rec would have totally been gone after that first weird season if it was held to the standard of today's shows.. gotta let things breathe a bit.

I should start Abbott Elementary tonight, thank you for making up my mind!
thank you for reminding me to support quinta!!
I’m really enjoying Abbott elementary too. Having worked in the public school system, it’s painfully accurate to my experience. The principal is so funny, inept, but funny LOL
I'm surprised at how much I really like Grand Crew. I feel like it will hit it's stride and I hope NBC lets it have the time to get there.
Abbott Elementary is so cute. I hope ABC gives it a chance.
I finished season 2 of Stranger yesterday!

I enjoyed the first season more than the second because it felt more straight forward. The show opened with a murder and through investigating the murder, all kinds of other secrets are revealed. The second season sorta does the same thing, but felt a bit more scattered and less of a direct story. Also, the second season dealt a lot with a prosecution vs police turf war/pissing contest that I literally could not care less about. There was also a bit more talk of financial crimes in season 2 and whenever anything related to financial crimes came up, my eyes just glazed right over. I'M SORRY. I DON'T UNDERSTAND BUSINESS THINGS.

But I still enjoyed the show. A solid 7/10 and I would absolutely watch a 3rd season if it gets made because Bae Doona is a DELIGHT as Yeo-jin..

Still mad about Eun-soo getting killed off though.

What drama should I start next??? I'm thinking maybe Hospital Playlist, but I'm willing to hear arguments in favor of other Kdramas!
Just Between Lovers or The Package. They’re both heartwarming dramas but JBL is specifically about trauma and more depressing. If you want something fun, then Ms. Temper and Nam JungGi aka My Horrible Boss or Hot Stove League.
Hm... I think I'll start Just Between Lovers because I'm in the mood for getting in my feelings. I'll do Hospital Playlist after.
I started Inspector Koo last weekend and am shocked at how much I'm enjoying it.

It's a serial killer thriller but:
- no cop characters (just insurance investigators that used to be cops),
- no annoying love triangle,
- lead is in her forties and isn't a mother or wife,
- the deaths are interesting,
- the villain is a cross better Villainelle from Killing Eve and Dexter, and
- the supporting characters are not one dimensional.

There is more than one instance of animal death though, and even though none of it is graphic I still struggled with some of it.

if you have viki or viu, The Red Sleeve (historical about a king who loved a court maid) is an addicting watch.

edit; seconding the rec for Inspector Koo! also one of my faves last year

There’s a second season of the Stranger?? I liked how the first one started, but it got a bit too ridiculous for me

Watch Abbott Elementary y'all. That show is fucking hilarious.

Lol my favorite part was when she got a body massage gun and said she was going to make an video so that the kids she can get the attachment that gets into the bones.
This show is so funny, love it.
The principal is hilarious, especially in this episode. “Can you twerk?” 😂😂
The lady reminds me so so much of my principal when I was a teacher. Except hitting on teachers instead of students.
The principal's line delivery never fails to crack me up.

Woo this post again yay!

Still watching stuff like the reboots on HBO and I really need to catch up on Letterkenny, it shouldn't take long though. Superman and Lois and Legends are back so I can't wait to start those up again! Also has anybody watched the CBC remake of Ghosts? It's pretty funny but I should probably check out the BBC version too.
The most recent season of Letterkenny was awful so don’t feel like you have to rush to it :(
The show's always been an oddball to begin with so that's pretty disappointing to read.
You mean the CBS version of Ghosts? The BBC OG is superior in every way, which coincidentally IS on CBC if you're Canadian

I've seen a couple of episodes of CBS Ghosts, and I remember there being a couple of funny lines/deliveries, but that was it. I probably would've liked it a lot more if I hadn't seen the original/BBC version first, lol, but maybe it just needs another season to hit its stride.
