Angelina Jolie Takes Herself to Capitol Hill

Angelina Jolie on Tuesday met with senators, including Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, to urge the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act and to advocate for the rights of women and children. Jolie is seeking provisions to better protect children against domestic violence and to prioritize children's health and safety in legal responses to trauma, including through judicial training and advancements in forensic evidence collection.

Her rep issued a statement from her in which she said, “I’m in DC leading up to the VAWA reauthorization, FBI reforms, and other important protections and rights. I’ve met with experts for years now, learning about best practices including non-biased forensic evidence collection, and advocating for improvements. I’m grateful for these timely and valuable meetings with Senators, especially focused on provisions for children’s health.”

She also stopped to thank officers who defended the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot.

The fact that this act has an expiration date and we need celebrities to advocate for it is just ...
mte but tax cuts for the rich never seem to have an expiration date tho
On of few celebs who uses her platform to actually and tangibly help people in this country and the world. Her commitment to her humanitarian convictions is commendable and I love her for it

Haters stay mad! Yes I know that sounds out of touch af, I’m an old now idk what the kids say these days
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I'm not here for thanking/praising the capital police. If it was any other type of protester they wouldn't have even reached the steps.
The ones who tried to stop it weren't alerted in time. The reason they got in is because the 'protestors' and the Capitol police who wanted to 'take back their freedom' overlapped. Four officers who were attacked in the riot have killed themselves.
Were any of the officers who killed themselves black?

I personally haven’t followed up but in February, there were rumors one of the officers who killed themselves was a white man who did like Trump and felt guilt/trauma about supporting such traitors while having the Capitol police job and getting beaten up by people who he thought would be on his side. But maybe that was proved wrong?

If the rumor is true, I dont feel bad for him at all tbh.

they were understaffed and overwhelmed and not supported by their government with increased security assistance. And a lot of these cops were black guys who endured endless racial abuse on top of the violence. This is a bad take. You can't compare it to other protests because other protests aren't supported and egged on by the fucking sitting POTUS

male journalists covering her capitol visit
as a writer myself I'm forever bitter terrible male writers get awesome gigs with writing like the above
https://www.vox.com/2016/7/12/12110190/sexist-celebrity-profiles-margot-robbie-renee-zellweger This is a really good history of men doing this.

The same guy who wrote that creepy Margot Robbie profile writing a profile about 18 year old Alicia Silverstone for Rolling Stone in 1998.

"Silverstone has straight blond hair that falls around her shoulders, wide eyes and a mouth that people describe in ways that she finds inappropriate. They liken it to a slice of tangerine or call it wedge shaped or say she has bee-stung lips. Well, if your lips were stung by a bee, do you have any idea how much that would hurt? "Like hell," she says. Silverstone's lips have not been stung by a bee. Nor does she have the vague, abstract, off-putting beauty of a supermodel like Linda Evangelista or Stephanie Seymour. Silverstone is a girl you could conceivably date, a girl you did date, even, raised to the highest power. She has the brand-new look of a still-wet painting – touch her and she'll smudge." .

I've read better fan fiction than this.
ugh, another example of r/menwritingwomen
This is treading dangerously close to “she walked boobily down the stairs”
tl;dr Angelina breasted boobily into DC
is that an extract from wattpad? lmao

As someone who was just beaten by their ex and is going through the justice system rn...Bravo to her for trying to make change.

My case has been all fucked up and I see here in the good ol' USA that foreigners have more rights than American women. My ex was released on a measly sum of bail to the European Union, WHERE WE BOTH LIVE. I am absolutely livid and obviously afraid to go back.

Angelina showing up to end the sexist conservative men

Since this is a vaguely political post, I want to take this opportunity to issue a hearty HA HA to California Republicans and their failed recall.
I'm laughing but damn what a waste of money.
Money that could have been used for so many better things. But instead was wasted on this nonsense. Thanks, fiscal conservatives!!

Ah well. At least this has been an impetus for a real discussion about recall reform.
Me @ the CA republicans

Her taking the time to do this, while Megan and Kourtney (who is 4 years younger) cosplay her at 23 makes it even more embarrassing and sad. I love that she genuinely does try and do good even if she is sometimes misguided and even though she's probably doesn't have time for much else on top of being a ~homewrecking SLUT~ she just acts, does her humanitarian work, loves her family and quietly lives her life.

Jeez what a handsome gent Pax is?? What a beautiful family overall
What a beautiful family. Zahara has turned out to be such a beauty. She seems to genuinely encourage her children to be themselves instead of fitting gender roles and dressing up certain ways for events and going out to perform for the paparazzi.
fuck chuck. he's so useless and needs to be primaried or retire
it's infuriating that he doesn't just slap Manchin in the face with his dick
love her. still got my fingers crossed for her and JLM giving it a third try, I know they've been hanging out and she deserves someone decent in her life.
She looks good, so polished
Throw hands with your dad angie
Thanking police officers while on a trip specifically about violence against women and children is a real choice.

They're one of the biggest obstacles to keeping women and girls safe because they're either doing the abusing or dismissing victims or protecting the abuser.
That happens often, in the Capitol? The officers abusing women and girls? That's not even a simplistic take, it's a nonsensical one.

I don't live in England but it took me five minutes to educate myself on what happened to the Capitol police who weren't told about the riot. Most of them have PTSD and life changing injuries from being attacked by the rioters and threatened with execution. Four of the officers have since died by suicide.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jul/27/house-us-capitol-attack-investigation-pelosi-republicans-boycott

They are stationed and work in that specific area so things like the 'insurrection' don't happen, and a lot of them tried to stop it. This is the testimony of Harry Dunn, the 'obstacle' she met with.

https://www.npr.org/2021/07/27/1021197474/capitol-police-officer-testifies-to-the-racism-he-faced-during-the-jan-6-riot

Thanking these people for literally risking their lives wasn't "a real choice". It was kindness.
