First Look at 'Nightmare Alley'

Vanity Fair got a first look at the upcoming Guillermo del Toro film Nightmare Alley, starring Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Toni Collette, and Willem Dafoe. There is a film of the same name from 1947 adapted from the same source material, but this film is a new adaptation of the William Lindsay Gresham novel, not a remake of that film. Scroll over to see all of the stills.

Plot summary: An ambitious carny with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words hooks up with a female psychiatrist who is even more dangerous than he is.

The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 17th, 2021.

Bradley Cooper definitely has carney face.

What other potential award season movies are we still waiting to see anything on? Deep Water? PT Anderson? Clifford the Big Red Dog?
I think we'll be getting a Licorice Pizza (new PTA) trailer/teaser/whatever the fuck soonish... looking forward to that.
Sounds weird to say it, but I liked Soggy Bottom better as the title lmao.
Lol Deep Water is coming out in January, it ain't going nowhere.

i'm indifferent to the movie but the deep water promo tour is going to be such a mess lmao
del Toro and Cate Blanchett? Damn 🔥
Right. I love Cate Blanchett. She’s so captivating on screen.
i am surprised to learn this is a straight noir and apparently monsterless lol

still intrigued though
Yeah I was way more interested when I thought it was carnival.
I'm kind of...whelmed? Maybe they're just bad stills and it'll look better in motion but I was expecting more. It doesn't look very noir-ish.

It's probably the lighting; it's gorgeous but definitely not as ironically high contrast and harsh compared to old school noir
Sounds interesting and good cast
yesssa gimme that new del toro!!!

is cooper still directing? or did his asib snub scare him off?
I think he's still directing that Leonard Bernstein biopic which he's also starring in.
Bradley looks so……. different. Nearly unrecognizable? I cannot even remember when was last time I saw him onscreen
I'm trying to figure out when he started to look like Kevin Kline??
The way I thought that was Richard Armitage in the first pic with Cate, and got momentarily excited.

omg I thought it was Benedict Cumberbatch lmao idk why. I feel the same about him and BCoop though so it changed nothing.
I thought it was Matthias Schoenaerts and got excited too (then my lady boner quickly fell when I saw it was Bradley).

Why isn't Richard in more things though? My 15 year old self demands it!
For real! Whatever happened to his career?

My baby self used to watch North & South on repeat 😩

I like the atmosphere coming through in the pics. That being said I did not guess the actors in the pics correctly and I don't think it's because they've ~transformed into the character~

I'm certainly curious enough to read a wiki page about the book lol
This looks awful!
*Goes to watch Tyrone Power version for the umpteenth time*
they gave Cate 'Carol' hair
Looks interesting but damn Del Toro does not cast a lot of fellow latinos. I only 1 in the cast list.
Dude is a white Mexican. If he were to cast more Latinos, I imagine it would be white Latinas/Latinos like himself. I’m like white is white, so is replacing white Americans, Europeans, and Aussies with white Latinos actually doing anything?
I’d be more excited if Bradley cooper wasn’t in this. So sick of him and his bad Botox
The original film is very good. This version will at least look nice.
