‘Saturday Night Live’ comedian Norm Macdonald dead at 61 after secret battle with cancer

Norm MacDonald succumbed to a secret 9-year cancer battle. He was 61.

He started his career as a writer on Roseanne before becoming part of the SNL cast in 1993, most notably doing the Weekend Updates.

He also starred in several movies, such as Billy Madison and Dirty Work.

One of my fave Norm moments lmao, and there are many. ♥

(Side note, Carrot Top lives near me and I randomly see him out and about and it's never not weird.)
Same. I worked on park ave for a while and it never got normal

I just saw your IG, that was a cute story and glad you finally got to meet him!
I thought this was mean. Courtney Thorne-Smith I'm sure knew the Carrot Top movie was a piece of shit, she's just trying to get through her studio mandated talk show appearance so she can scrape together the remains of her post-Melrose Place career. Talk about kicking someone when they're down.

A Carrot Top movie, Conan O'Brien on Late Night, Melrose Place, Collective Soul as the musical guest. I know it's actually set in the '90s, but everything about that just screams '90s as if it were a parody lol
Wow, that's super young. Fuck cancer, as ever.
That's exactly what I was going to say and I see it repeats on other comments. "Fuck cancer as always" and "as always, 60 is WAY to young'.
Fuck cancer. I know Norm's comedy was controversial at times, but damn.

Like when he made graphic jokes about Charles Rocket's suicide on Kevin Nealon's radio show?

RIP :(

To battle for so long and without telling anyone must have been hard.
I'm sure his loved ones knew. At least I hope they did.
He has a son who I think is in his early 20s. :[ Cannot imagine watching your parent go through that for almost half your life.

You guys I am fucking distraught. I remember making a "Guess who I met?" post here ages ago and it was him :[

Pic for reference since the hosting is dead now (this was 2008):

He was so wonderful and gracious. Ughhhhhhhhh FUCK CANCER
I had a huge crush on him when I was like...in middle school. I'm jealous you got to meet him!
Mine developed around 15-16 and I felt like I was the only one - glad we were in that together bb. He was so cute on SNL and in the late '90s/early 2000s, IDGAF! Still hot in 2008!

i legit swore at my screen :( 61 is way too young. fuck cancer!!!
How horrible. I can't imagine how hard it is to deal with cancer for years like that.
He got a little weird politically later in life, but he was truly a brilliant comedian.
just submitted a post about this lol

rip turd ferguson, thanks for the laughs

My mom and I almost dropped dead from laughing so hard at Turd Ferguson. This was the high point of SNL as far as I'm concerned.
Turd Ferguson is an ICON
Oh my goddddd this was one of the funniest things on television at the time
One of the all time best bits.
the way he's just like... chomping on gum through the entire thing, it still kills me every time
RIP, this is so sad!

I'll think I'll always remember him best for his work as this guy:
whaaatt? I didn't know it was him :(
Oh wow! Rest in peace. :(
a 9-year battle with cancer is insane. fuck you, cancer. RIP.
Aw, Turd Ferguson. :(
RIP to this funny prick who made being a prick funny.
fuck cancer
