‘Saturday Night Live’ comedian Norm Macdonald dead at 61 after secret battle with cancer

Norm MacDonald succumbed to a secret 9-year cancer battle. He was 61.

He started his career as a writer on Roseanne before becoming part of the SNL cast in 1993, most notably doing the Weekend Updates.

He also starred in several movies, such as Billy Madison and Dirty Work.

61 is so young...fuck cancer. I hope his last few days were peaceful.
I feel torn over this loss. He was definitely problematic and supported some garbage people but I also thought he was one of the funniest people in the world. I don't know how many times I've watched compilations of him on David Letterman and Conan. He was also whip smart. Long ago, he was super close to winning Celebrity Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (which is an amazing segment to watch if you've got half an hour).

I'll leave his moth joke here for now

I always liked him on Conan the best because Conan really appreciated his nonsense and genuinely seemed to enjoy him lol.
I like Conan for that reason with Jeff Goldblum as well lol he was always so deranged on that show lol
He would have won but Regis ruined it for him, ugh. Still bothers me to this day.

I know many here trashed him and turned on him when he defended Louis CK and insulted his victims and the metoo movement, so I was just surprised at the responses.

I don’t wish illnesses like this on anyone though, just to clarify.

His final appearance on Letterman was so touching, it was the only time I've ever seen him choked up/emotional.

My fav moment of his
I laughed so hard at this the first time I saw it! I still use "agree to disagree" this way whenever I can.
I just shouted across the office about it. And went to ruin a coworkers lunch because this is news that you don't sit on.

But we got a good laugh because we have an assistant, who is a good 10+ years younger who was like "Awwww! That grumpy old comedian guy?!"

61 is so young. This is such a loss to comedy.

“I’m pretty sure, I’m not a doctor, but I’m pretty sure if you die, the cancer dies at the same time. That’s not a loss. That’s a draw!” - norm. 🤍

This made me gasp
Holy shit.
RIP :( that celebrity jeopardy skit is the reason for my username
I still call people this
legendary
He looks kinda sexy here tbh
I legit gasped out loud at work. Norm was truly hilarious and his mentions of Ottawa and Carleton in various appearances were so good. And I legit liked the Norm Show with the adorable little Weiner Dog. And his voice work, I wonder what the Orville is going to do with Yaphit now :(((

RIP funny Canadian man
yo what the fuck

NINE YEARS??? That is straight up impressive that he was able to keep it a secret for that long.

RIP
Ugh I’m quite sad about this. Thanks for all the laughs dude , RIP
that's so awful. Condolences to his family and friends and fans too
I’m from the U.K, so I’m mostly familiar with Norm from ontd and the Internet in general. It’s impressive that he kept everything so private. It must’ve been hard. 61 is no age these days.
