I like Iris van herpen's stuff... but like... does she do anything else? all her looks for the last few seasons have been a variation on this floating feather look. I get having a signature, but even more avant garde designers switch it up more often.
AOCs dress was cringe.
I'm with the sentiment but there's something about being at the met gala during a pandemic wearing fuck the rich attire just feels really dumb tbh
Yep. During a pandemic where people in the US are worried about losing their income, housing, etc.

It felt kinda self-serving to me, like she knew that she was going to get criticized for being there and just wanted to pre-empt the criticism. Plus the dress kinda looked shoddily made.
I love her but…. I agree
Has she responded yet, saying its a fundraiser… cause girl.

I thought it was corny but very effective in what she probably wanted it to do, which was get media attention from prominent publications.

I've mostly come around to performances as normalization, and think it's actually vital for politicians to perform to some extent, especially since conservative performance has gained such a grip on US politics. since I do think there's a useful legislative reason here (the progressive caucus is trying to make sure the bills up for vote include the higher taxes on the rich they got included), I actually don't mind it, corny tho it is.

I also think there's a gap between how people believe leftist politicians should behave and what is practically useful behavior to effect their goals.

it was very much joy whatever her name is who would get attention from wearing those pro-trump dresses. it's worse because AOC is a legit politician, but it's just cringe either way.
Was the theme this year wear a prom dress? Not seeing anything that ties all this together…
Prom is a very American fashion event. If someone had intentionally gone big, traditional prom I think that would have been a very smart and interesting choice. These ladies just wanted to look pretty and that's less interesting.
Seriously that would’ve been great!
it's very hard not to like emma anymore. her new vlogs are good and calming and she minds her business.
nnnn not 2-time emmy winner julia garner getting stuck with these nobodies. girl run!
She probably came out of the stall at the wrong time and felt it would be rude to say no.
she looks like she just wanted to wash her hands real quick and got cornered
I know that the theme was very nonspecific but I still think like 95% of people missed the brief. Tickets should be revoked at the door for people like that. All the men in basic black suits? goodbye
And in black suits not by American designers!
Dixie's look would be good if whoever styled her got her a wig that didn't look so cheap. Party city vibes.
I’m pretty sure it’s a hat made of ostrich feathers
I thought it was hair the way it had long strands in the back so my bad! It does look like ostrich feathers in the front, and if it were the same sized feathers all around it would be fine
I have no clue who a lot of these people are, but Jackie Aina had to spend a decent amount of time to find such an aggressively cheap looking outfit.

And honestly, these nobodies are who Anna deserves.
lol the ig influencers need to learn was looks good on instagram vs what's good for red carpets and the met gala
Jackie's look was an attempt at Black Barbie, but the outfit just wasn't right, like, it's the Met Gala, go big, do the fantasy look, instead it was very like, expensive Halloween look you'd see at like, a private party on a brand trip.

She worked with a Black designer, which is great, but I think she could have gone bigger--it's essentially a charmeuse dress over a bathing suit. The designer said it was "What would Baps wear to the Met Gala in 2021?" but I think it was just a missed opportunity to do something brilliant and critique the YT Barbie aesthetic.
If she was going to go Barbie they should have either been inspired by the black and white bathing suit on the first Barbie or Superstar Barbie which was the first time she had the iconic Barbie face of the 80s and 90s. Her look was close to Superstar Barbie but way too simple.

Or Totally Hair Barbie, the best one ever but that dress isn't exactly Met Gala.
See? I never would’ve known any of that from just looking at the picture. My first thought was a cover up over a bathing suit. Too bad they didn’t go bigger. It could’ve been so much more interesting.
yeah I like the aesthetic but not the execution re: Jackie's outfit
Dixie is easily my favourite. I appreciate that Nikkie's look is an homage to Marsha P. Johnson but on its own it does nothing for me.

Everyone else is fine, I guess.
I used to watch Jackie's videos a lot and it's a bit of surprise to see her there, but go off, I guess - but in that dress? Not sure labia were the theme
God Nikkie looks gorgeous, I love it. I would get married in something like that lmao.
who are these people?
jackie looks goos, she at least read what the theme was, others are a bit less known to me and the looks have nothing in common with the theme
That Nikkie dress looks like a Marchesa, not y'all being into that nonsense. Eugene seems to be the best dressed
Emma is so skinny
she's def relapsed into her ED. its sad.

Madison Beer in One/Of by Patricia Voto

Madison didn't get a lot of attention for this, but Patricia's line is relatively new, based in New York, and made of reclaimed materials from "heritage brands." An American designer gets a big platform: perfect for this thematic evening. The dress is pretty and absolutely evokes an Old Hollywood glam.
