Netflix confirms cast for ATLA live-action series + showrunner talks about his vision for the serie



This is an update from this post since this is an official confirmation from Netflix.

Lo and behold! Once again, AvatarNews_ has been proven to be right. Netflix has confirmed the cast for the main characters of their upcoming live-action series, Avatar: The Last Airbender:

-Aang (12) will be played by Gordon Cormier (12); He's a Filipino-Canadian actor whose credits include Lost in Space and The Stand

-Katara (14) will be played by Kiawentiio Tarbell (14); She's an Indigenous Mohawk actress whose credits include Anne with an E and the independent film Beans

-Sokka (16*) will be played by Ian Ousley (19); no information about his background but he's been on 13 Reasons Why and Physical

-Zuko (17*) will be played by Dallas Liu (20); He's a Chinese-Indonesian-American actor who's appeared on PEN15 and in the upcoming Shang-Chi

*Their ages in the animation are 15 and 16 respectively, but have been changed by one year for the live-action series.

-Showrunner Albert Kim has said the following about the direction of the show: "I also knew what I didn’t want to do. I didn’t want to change things for the sake of change. I didn’t want to modernize the story, or twist it to fit current trends. Aang is not going to be a gritty antihero..." - should we breather s sight of relief? Read more under the cut:
