[Some more Simone Biles articles and quotes]

“I felt like it would be better to take a back seat,” she explained. “I didn’t want to risk the team a medal because they worked way too hard for my screwups.” Biles said she was shaking during the long wait between the team’s morning practice and the competition. “[I] never felt like this before … Once I came out here, I was like, No, the mental is not there. I had to let the girls do it.”

Biles has said one of the primary reasons she wanted to compete in this year’s Games was so that a survivor of Nassar’s abuse would be there, that U.S.A. Gymnastics, which had covered for Nassar for decades, would have to face what it was a part of. “I just feel like [with] everything that happened, I had to come back to the sport to be a voice, to have change happen,” Biles told People. “Because I feel like if there weren’t a remaining survivor in the sport, they would’ve just brushed it to the side.”
