ONTDers have been heard and Twitter is testing a dislike button for you to express your negativity.

- Twitter is testing a dislike button, for you to let people know you hate stuff.
- The feature is slowly rolling out to some users.
- This will not be part of Twitter Blue, Twitter´s recently announced subscription service.
- This features comes after Twitter´s announcement that they'll be removing 'Fleets'.

I dunno if my mental state can deal with a bunch of downvotes on the bird app. 😂

ugh, so many assholes are just gonna view them as badges of honor
Honestly good. Sometimes I just want ppl to know I disagree with them, but have no interest in discussing it further lol.

lol
That's when I let them know my views and then mute the thread.

I call it 'tossing a grenade in a room and closing the door'
Me on reddit.
That's pretty much what I do.
lmao I love doing this
i hope it doesn't stick tbh
"dislikes aren't public or visible to the author"
so there's no point in them then?
Right lol just letting Twitter devs be paid to waste time
maybe the # of dislikes is public but you can't click on it and see who disliked it?
ah yeah that would make more sense then
it sounds like they're trying to drive off/surpress both stan twitter and the alt right in one feature.

i wish everything in life had a downvote button, including people.

I love this man’s energy
I wish people had a mute button
Isn’t China doing this; ranking actual people with their scary social credit system
What!? Did they watch that episode of Black Mirror and decided it was a good idea.

Nah I prefer people having to mentally figure out the like vs dislike ratio by looking at the quote tweet vs hearts ratio
All these zoomers have flooded twitter with the new definition of 'ratio' as used in tiktok and it is SO FUCKING ANNOYING
Especially if you try and say hey up until 2021 it actually meant something totally different and you get flooded with replies of 'ratio!'
yeah why the fuck does it even mean to them??? because i see a reply to a reply to a tweet with a couple replies and likes and they’re still screaming RATIO!!!! but like that’s….not what that means
i liked fleets wth
same! how rude
Me too! Why are they taking them away?!
same I'm upset
What’s the point of the dislikes not being visible to the author, then?

This on top tumblr’s subscription plans have put a weird damper on my day lol
I'm conflicted about the subscription plans. Like hell yeah let artists make money but it's very...different. also they obviously want to get in on that money from ppl linking their Patreons

slightly related but i wish they hadn't changed the tag system. It's now like twitter and i hate it
tumblr has WHAT
Lol I just googled that Tumblr thing and…does anyone actually use Tumblr as a text blogging platform like that? It seems so awkward for text blogging. Everyone I follow on Tumblr uses it for graphics/gifs/etc.
yeah, the visual is the appeal of tumblr. my ideal social media would be somewhere between livejournal and tumblr, because I like the format of LJ where you can have comment threads but I also like being able to share the posts of others.

Tumblr is good for fan art and used to be great for photography. A lot of people do essays/did you know stuff which in my opinion take a lot of work and if they want to be paid for it, more power to them. If they produce original content, they deserve to be compensated if they desire.

i'd like to believe that tumblr's quote format is what propelled "instapoetry" tbh. and tumblr's text format is where the current fandom "discourses" originated from. i used tumblr as a text-blog before, you only need to find a good layout

"What’s the point of the dislikes not being visible to the author, then?"

To signal to everyone else reading that it's a 'bad' tweet (ex. factually incorrect.. or more likely, just unpopular.)

It's not really about the author - Twitter clearly still wants 'bad' tweets, they don't want to discourage anyone from hurting their 'engagement' metrics in any way. But they also need to cut down on people replying with death threats so... invisible thumb down of aggression it is.

Lol good thing it isnt public or visible to the author. Like I am ok with people having a diff opnion or just not liking a take. Something about that thumbs down image is very aggressive tho lol. So if I'm caught on the wrong day or minute that thumbs down will have me ready to go off. Like if somebody replies with something negative I'm like "Thats fine" or maybe try to explain if I have been received wrong. That thumbs down will have me ready to call everybodys mom a ho.

lol this will end well.
but they still won't let me edit my spelling mistakes?! okay then.
I would rather a disinformation flag or way to report someone who spreads it. I wonder if dislikes will help them deal with trolls or spam? That would be the only benefit.

I get anxious with the rare one offs of the dislike button on here lol.
I s2g you used to be able to report spreading covid misinformation in twitter but it's not there in the report function anymore
Like sure i can do a manual report where you can enter details yourself but how many people even know that's an option?
I think it shows up for certain people? There is a idiot politician that will Tweet nonsense and I can select something like not helpful or reliable but it doesnt show for everyone. In fairness I dont think they can fact check everyone but still it would be nice to be a reason to report people.

That’s not going to go well at all. People are going to just rally and swarm.
Stan twitter will go ham with it
