not this actually being asleep at the nail salon
Jack antonoff at work here; this could easily be passed off as a Lana song
people keep saying this and i feel like it almost undermines lorne's own say in her work, like she's a blob who just shows up and jack antonoff does the rest of the work - she's the writer and co-producer on all these tracks so idk
In terms of melody and sound, it’s all JA. I enjoy Lorde’s work and lyricism, but this mellow, ~almost unplugged~ is all JA and it’s all the same bc we’ve heard it with Lana, Taylor and Lorde

i agree, but at the same time he is the common denominator in all these former pop girl albums..

The problem is that, like with Lana, he's let this young artist indulge their worse solipsistic navel-gazing. With Lana, that's her brand. With Lorde, it sounds unfocused, lazy, and whiny. He's not doing his job by allowing an artist who was known for being incisive to become messy like this.
I feel like it’s less of an undermine of lorde and more of an sign of how one note and same-y jacks production and sound is
for real. melody, lyrics, and even production. all of it is exactly lana del rey filler track
I was like I feel like I heard this song before and I think youre right. The melody is very lovely tbh but I think everyone expected something different.
Lana’s sound was not invented by Lana it’s just a rehash of a bunch of 60’s artists like Nina Simone etc.

it's very Lana del Rey, even the title. The song reminds me of Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have
i like the pre-chorus melody but her vocal tone is so grating to me
I love her music but she's not exactly an amazing singer. Interesting voice sure, but there's so many other bananies and avocadies girls out there who can actually sang for real. A lot of the live stuff I've heard is...not great.
this very ~tumblr girl deep~
That’s how she’s always come across to me lol. Never understood why people rave about her
well it WAS precocious when she was only 16 but sis will be 25 in a few months. The lyrics to this song are much better than Solar Power but that's a very low bar.
Also, imagine being not quite 25 and writing a song about how you're all settled down now and too old to ~do things~ like you used to lmao spare me.

I mean I know she partied very heavily in her teens if the songwriting is to be believed but STILL. She's only barely not a zoomer lmao.
It’s giving NyQuil. No joke, but I physically yawned listening to this.
REM at the nail salon is serving us 6-8 hrs of sleep. fitbit is shaking
The way I guffawed. I needed this, thank you. Lol
Fitbit thinks you're dead
my immediate thought was I might actually play this tonight when I have trouble falling asleep.
I'd love to know her thought process about wasting everyone's time
LMAO
this is completely killing me
Same lmaoooo
Omg 💀
OMG I needed this laugh
I'm going to use this in real life 😂
This is probably going to be one of my favorite comments for the year or one I will be using often.
i laughed like muttley 🤣
LMAO
Same. I swear when I clicked on it, I thought it was an SNL parody song. I was like, 'this can't be real.'
I’m stealing this
Like the panini wasn't enough!!
LMFAO.

I can't love this comment enough.
If this comment isn't nominated for best of the year I will be so sad..
I am convinced this is all satire. I really thought her video for the last song was satire, too. That, or she is making shit, thinking it's good, because her ego is so inflated after everyone praised her ever since she did Royals.

I was reading her lyrics to previous songs like Green Light and Magnets, and she really was/is a pick-me or sidechick, huh? Explains the whole Lena/Jack shit.

well, it's definitely long. don't have to be stoned to figure that out.
Jack Antonoff needs to be arrested asap. Get tf off our pop girls ffs!
If he ever gets anywhere near Mitski I'm calling the police.
Mitski would NEVER
I thought Mitski retired or quit?
I’m still bitter he ruined Clairo’s new album. Phoebe Bridgers is probably his next target
put him under house arrest in my place

*slathers on lip gloss*
I usually love his collabs but this is straight up disrespectful
Well, I thought the chicken was lovely...
very Lana
Lana has more edge than this on her worst day. Lana's high by the beach selling drugs on the side, not the nail salon falling asleep. Not even in her snoozy retirement days now has she reached this level of meh.
we'll always have melodrama
fuck you Jack Antonoff!!!
like i literally walked past him in washington square park earlier this month, i shoulda beat his ass if i knew this was coming 😑
Someone on Twitter addressed him as “war criminal.” I felt that.
i feel like she's sort of sucked some of the uniqueness out of her voice, like compare this vocal delivery to writer in the dark and it's just not as interesting

hope the rest of the album is better
do you think so many pop girls emulating her voice also makes her voice seem less unique when we actually do hear it?
she's giving me some bananis&avocadis here, and as someone who loves a unique female voice and interesting, weird things beign done with it, i sometimes wonder what voices we're missing out on bc so many of the indie girls are singing in italics all the time

idk i think maybe it's partially that and maybe it's just the effect she's using on her voice for this track - there's a moment toward the end where she cuts through to say "whatever that means" in the voice we're "used" to hearing from her and it makes me wish the whole track was sung that way, like maybe it would have a diff or more thoughtful/sincere energy
I feel like she's singing in a higher pitch and putting a fake-bright timbre on her voice to underscore the lyrics about everything she used to like and sing about being so long ago and she's different now, not this dark wild child anymore, but the effect of that with the particular harmonies/vocal layering in the production is not pleasant
loveeeee writer in the dark, that’s a career high mark for me
It angers me knowing Jack Antonoff keeps working in the music industry. He ruined Lorde for me.
What is this shit?
I think he’s really talented but he’s incredibly overexposed. In no way is it a good thing for us or the industry that he produces 4 of the top 10 woman artists in the world.
Exactly! He can keep Lana and Taylor tho cuz they're already a mess and idgf about their music.
I don’t get why it’s always women artists too...unless I’ve missed something feel free to correct me
