Flop Alert: Subway Tries and Fails To Give Away 1 Million Free Sandwiches

The sandwich chain just can’t catch a break...

In order to promote Subway’s Eat Fresh Refresh program featuring “new and improved ingredients,” spruced-up stores, and some new additions to its sandwich menu and the Turkey Cali Fresh sandwiches, the chain had announced that they would give away a million 6-inch Turkey Cali Fresh sandwiches nationwide. The giveaway occurred last week on July 13th from 10am to 12pm to the first 50 customers.

The problem? Not many people showed up or wanted them free sandwiches according to franchisees. Can you believe?

According to a source, who operates several Subway locations and communicates with fellow franchisees regularly, the average number of free sandwiches given away was about 20 per location.

“There were a few stores that did have 50 giveaways, but quite frankly, most stores managed 10 to 20,” said the source. “That’s what I’ve heard from at least 100 franchisees.”

Perhaps Subway wants to reach out to Chipotle with help on how to turn things around?

In other related news, Subway recently launched a website to prove their tuna is real. I guess.

A) I had no idea it was happening. I'd have gotten a free sandwich.
B) Ew, who wants a turkey sandwich???? Don't reply to me with your bad taste if you do, that's gross.
lmao i am not here to argue my reasons
but my boyfriend judged me so hard for making a turkey sandwich today
tbh i see what you (and my bf) mean at the end of B)

😂😭😂
listen sometimes a turkey sandwich is just the thing you need. no shame.
I think you could get steak too, if anyone knew of this promo.
Ok I feel judged their turkey sandwiches are my favorite 😂

I only get a turkey sandwich when I go there.
Their only sub I like is ofc the least healthiest - the meatball sub!! On my cheat day, I'll get one with extra sauce, american cheese, all the fixins' and pickles.

Ah. They're trying to get Ireland to declare that their sandwiches are, in fact, made with bread.
part of the problem with subway is how gross their stores smell tbh
It always smells like dirty mop
I worked there in high school. The smell literally sticks to you and eventually, your clothes smell like it no matter how many times you washed them.
ugh, i'd rather smell like fryer oil and grease than subway D: what is it that makes it smell like that anyway?

I worked at Pizza hut in high school and pretty much, same. My hair always smelled like dirty mop and pepperoni.

it is VILE. when I moved in with my dad I had to get a new dentist and he was like oh just go to mine, he's great, and I got there and it was in the same building as a Subway so the whole office smelled like it. I was like absolutely not I am never coming back here again lol
I never heard of this. They did a terrible job at advertising this.

I would have definitely gotten one. Free food is my favorite food.
I was craving a sub for the past few days, but the closest place to me is a subway so I drove out of town to a Wawa in the instead 👀 I know a gas station sub might not sound better, but it’s definitely better than subway lol
wawa has good food!
wawa has good subs tho! when i was in college, the line would be out the door after the bars closed lol.
I'll take a Sheetz sub over Subway any day of the week.

oh
i mean, i just don't like turkey :/

EDIT: wait, they tried this at 10am on a tuesday?
on a Tuesday, at 10 am, for 2 hours.

They just didn't want to give away product lol
lol right? I was like who eats Subway at 10am??? Most people are at work, too. They picked oddest time and that's why no one went.

It's partly bc it had to be just one type of sandwich. Had they let you pick any sandwich then people wouldve gone.

I agree. And it should've been all day not between 10AM & 12PM. Who's got a lunch break then?
Yeah, I'm very particular about the sandwich I like. It's the only sandwich I'll order and never change anything about it.
If they had advertised this more then it probably would of done better.
There's a thing called advertising, maybe they should have tried that.
Inconceivable!!
I'd take their non-tuna tuna over their dry ass turkey
The only thing anyone should be ordering from subway is their white chocolate macadamia nut cookies.
Years ago I was working at a fast food restaurant and our supplier accidentally sent us a box of subway cookies. We ate them all, burned the box, and swore we'd never seen them.
their cookies are SO GOOD and I don't get why!!
i hadnt even heard about it, sounds like a marketing fail
One time I was so hangry and the only option was subway, so I caved. The guy making my sandwich had super hairy arms and his arm hair kept touching my sandwich as he made it.

I walked out and have never been back to one since.
🤮🤮 As a food service worker a lot of these places have waaaay too low standards. Every day I thank God my crew and I are all obsessive about cleanliness + avoiding contaminants. The things I've seen in some kitchens. 🤮
I do not think they promoted this, I had no idea it was happening.

I used to go to Subway more, I really liked the BMT or sometimes got the cold cut combo. I haven't been in years but went nearly once a week when I was in college and it was right by my apartment.
I heard about this, but I wasn’t willing to go to Subway for the chance of a free sub. I figured all the free ones would have been claimed and there’s a 0% chance I’m paying for Subway.
