In a huge upset, A Quiet Place Part II is back on top of the weekend box office, with $11.7 million. The film has become the first to officially cross the $100 million mark since Sonic the Hedgehog passed it 16 months ago.
Despite overwhelming positive reviews, In the Heights debut weekend failed to make a showing, grabbing only $11.4 million. The film was expected to debut around the $20 million mark. The hybrid release with HBO Max will likely be the go-to-blame, but several others from the studio walked away with higher debuts.
Peter Rabbit 2 debuted to $10.4 million, with The Conjuring 3 close behind at $10.2 million. Cruella was 5th with $6.7 million.
