Production on "Ultimate Slip 'n Slide" shuts down due to explosive diarrhea outbreak

- Up to 40 crew members have become ill from a Giardia outbreak on set.

- Giardia is a parasite that spreads through the ingestion of or contact with food, water, soil, or surfaces contaminated with the feces of an infected person or animal. It can take as little as a day and up to 3 weeks to develop symptoms like the aforementioned violent diarrhea, and infections can last for weeks. About 10% of infected people don't develop symptoms.

- It's sometimes called "beaver fever."

- Water from sinks, water trucks, and the pool tested negative, but samples from the area surrounding the set came back positive.

- NBC was filming the show -- hosted by Ron Funches and Bobby Moynihan, and set to premier after the Olympics, which has its own infectious disease issues -- at a ranch in Simi Valley. There was about a week left of shooting and they're still figuring out how to complete it.

- Funches and Moynihan are said to be fine.
