Needless to say, these news infuriated the vast majority of Avatar's loyal fanbase. Fans complaining that this change would significantly affect the canon dynamics between the sibling duo that are so pivotal to both character's foundations and that Netflix was trying to appeal to an infamously loud and entitled fanbase of a non-canon ship that has not shut up since the show ended more than 10 years ago.
Turns out this worrying was all for naught, as the far more reputable @AvatarNews_ has exclusively shared that the main characters ages will be the following:
To sum it up:
-Aang and Katara's age will stay the same, 12 and 14 respectively. Sokka and Zuko will both be aged up by one year to 16 (Sokka) and 17 (Zuko).
-Reaction to the news mainly range from "Ok, the extra year for Sokka and Zuko is weird but fair, I guess" to "who still cares about the live action adaptation now that Avatar Studios has been announced?"
-Some Zukka (Zuko/Sokka; non-canon) shippers are wondering if this means that Zukka will be canon in the live-action (I think they are mostly joking btw) whereas Zutara (Zuko/Katara; non-canon) shippers are salty about this apparent missed opportunity to have their non-canon ship happen in this live-action adaption.
-The Source, AvatarNews_, speculates that the extra year added to both Sokka and Zuko may be because they're done casting and the actor may be a bit older than their ages. But who really knows?
-Anyway, Noah Centineo for Zuko confirmed?
