Netflix Will Actually Release Zack Snyder’s Zombie Thriller ‘Army of the Dead’ in a Lot of Movie Theaters https://t.co/AMl6RmFK9c— Variety (@Variety) May 4, 2021
Netflix's upcoming Zack Snyder-directed Army of the Dead will debut in theaters rather than on Netflix, marking a thawing of a previously icy relationship between theater chains and the streaming giant. Several hundred theaters, including giant chain Cinemark, will play the film for a one-week exclusive window starting May 14th, prior to its Netflix release on May 21st.
The film will play at around 600 theaters total, including at Alamo Drafthouse, iPic, and Landmark, but not at AMC or Regal.
“Following the success of our limited-run in-theatre tests with Cinemark for films like ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,’ ‘The Midnight Sky’ and ‘The Christmas Chronicles 2,’ we are looking forward to the wider theatrical release of ‘Army of the Dead,'” said Spencer Klein, Netflix’s head of distribution.
