I still have my Addy doll. I wasn't allowed to play with her so she should be in good condition.
I had her book but not her doll. I am really tempted on buying it.

And I don't remember having the book, lol.

EDIT: Nvm, I found that shit. My memory is apparently going.
Same on both counts!
I still have mine too and the one regret I have as someone choosing to not have kids is that I won't have a daughter to pass her down to

Same. I wasn't a doll person, so I never played with it.
My mom gave me an Addy doll a few years ago because she felt so guilty about never giving me the doll as a kid.

I took my Addy everywhere with me! She even got her own chair sometimes when my family would go out to eat ❤️

Sometimes people would look at me weird because I’m white and had a black doll, but she was my favorite! I didn’t see what the deal was.
I wanted the Molly doll so much when I was a kid. It's still too expensive :(
Molly was my second one, and my favorite from then on. She had the best books and the best short stories in the AG magazines!

We were so broke when I was a kid and I somehow got a Molly doll for xmas one year. In hindsight I think she was bootleg or something because her eyes were two different colors and her hair smelled like fire 👀
It might've been a factory second. back when they were still owned by pleasant company, they had an outlet attached to their headquarters in Wisconsin and you could by all sorts of factory seconds there. My friend had all of the original girls and all of them were outlet dolls which were like half price.

The dolls are so expensive but they are beautiful. I wanted Addy so badly but my parents were like nope! I lucked out and found Molly at a thrift store when I was a kid.
Her glasses were broken but she was otherwise in tact.
Fuck yes.
Samantha was always my favorite.
Mine too. I got the doll for Christmas one year and I took her everywhere, did all the hairstyles in the doll books, etc. Never had different outfits but I sure loved having that doll, lol.
I think at the time they were $90 when I found the books and I remember closing my eyes and knowing I had a snowball's chance in hell to get one.
Part of me wants to blow $150 on this doll but honestly I have nowhere to put her and I could get three different Sailor Moon dolls for that...
Everyone I knew as a kid stanned Samantha lol.

She was my first AG, and my first “nice” toy... I was 5 but so proud of myself that my parents thought I was ready for that responsibility, lol.

I took such good care of her, and turned one of my closet shelves into her “room”.

i had samantha and she's still in my childhood closet somewhere in her coffin. i've thought about selling her but i don't want some random kid messing with her either.
samantha was my doll!!
i had samantha and instead of buying all the expensive clothes, my mom sewed doll-sized dresses for her :')
i kinda want to buy the josefina cause i always wanted her but idk what i'd do with it. i still have the felicity in my old closet at my parent's house.
Lol yeah Felicity is currently sleeping in her box in my closet, oop.

my childhood friend couldn't afford these so instead she would make her own using the doll making kits from joanns or whatever and stuff her own dolls lol

as a sidebar, I wish there were more non white girls of the year characters? I initially thought they were based on actual girls and didn't want to feel a way that some little girl was getting highlighted but now that I know they just make them up? DIVERSIFY IT!

ETA: AND SPEAKING OF! I was SO DEVASTATED that the doll character from my literal town I live in RN was yet another white girl. 'MaryEllen'? Why couldn't we have Melody dammit??

Addy and Josephina were the last ones in the group to be introduced too! It started with just 4 white girls.
my family could never afford the dolls but i loooooooved the books lol i read all of the originals
I had a Samantha, Molly, Josefina and Felicity when I was little.
so your parents are wealthy?
No, my aunt got them for me every other Christmas.

As an adult when they finally opened a store here and I found out how much these dolls and their accessories together REALLY cost, phew. I always thought they were cute though.
It's RIDICULOUS, and I say this as someone who generally likes Mattel (Well, I like Monster High).
Yeah, as a kid I had 3 American Girl dolls and I was always begging my parents for more books and accessories - now as an adult I completely understand why they didn't want to buy me all that stuff, and I'm honestly shocked that they spent the money on THREE of these dolls for me lol.
Aww Kirsten! I have her doll (she has glasses to match me lol) and I still have hers, Addy's and Josefina's first books. They were too expensive for me to have the rest so I would get them from the library to read

I want the Addy doll but I can't justify the cost 😕
I am so tempted on Felicity and Samantha. But I just posted this on Facebook and someone offered to sell me their original Samantha and a bunch of clothes, so i might do that. And I have Felicity, but I don’t know where she is and I do know there’s a big ink stain on her dress.
Also I think the historical girls line got really expanded to include more decades and girls of color. I wanted the other Black dolls to go with Addy. Maybe I'll do that someday.

Also if I remember there was a lack of Asian dolls, I think there was one PI doll. They should fix that.
That’d be really GREAT. It'd be awesome to see a AAPI Doll. I think you might be right that there was one but I cannot remember. I legit thought there’d be one back in the days and I used to wonder about that all the time + the fact Addy was the only one black girl doll to exist in AG. So the more girls of color from every different decades the better.
So in terms of black dolls they have Addy Walker and now have Melody Ellison and Cecile Ray. Nanea Mitchell is the pacific islander doll and Kaya'aton'my (Kaya) is the native American (Nez Perce) doll.

Now that's just my quick googling so I'm not sure if they're all still available, which would be dumb if they weren't. And there is no east, south, or central Asian doll.

I think the only historical Asian doll they have had is Ivy. Their selection of AAPI dolls sucks.

I wanted one of these fucking dolls so bad as a child. my rich friends had them and didn't even play with them.

ha! i have a complete collection of the historical dolls and i *just* finished restoring all the first five (ie the ones i had as a kid and played with) to their original outfits for display. they were mostly in them, but there were missing socks, wrong shoes, etc that i ended up having to buy on ebay. and now of course they're just re-releasing them!
I had Samantha, she's probably still at my parent's house somewhere. And my mom had Josefina. We'd have our dolls hang out with each other, it was cute
