i regret not keeping my samantha doll. not interested in the ones made now by mattell or whatever brand owns them
Samantha’s book was the first I ever read so I’ll always have her as my first. My parents couldn’t afford these dolls so I never got one.
My Oma bought me the Josefina doll when I was younger and I was so obsessed with her. My Oma and mom had a falling out after my parents divorced and we didn’t see my dads side of the family for a while. By the time we visited again, I was older and my grandparents had moved so I have no idea where Josefina ended up but I would definitely still have her otherwise!

Also the newer dolls are cute too. I really like the more modern ones.
American girl dolls are triggering for me lmfao i was 8 when my grandma died (in a horrific way) and i was so confused and in denial i refused to go to her funeral. So my mom said she would buy me and american girl doll if i went. I agreed. I am such a fucking piece of shit
the situation was shit. I had a hard enough time going to my grandpa's funeral when I was 15 and we knew it was coming, I can't imagine being 8.
I am so sorry that happened. You are not a piece of shit. You were a kid dealing with something incomprehensible at the time. Your struggle to accept it shows how much you loved your grandmother. I hope you can forgive yourself. <3

No. Kit is new — was not around when I was a kid. I remember when Josephina first came out. Kit & Kaya were added when I was older but still got the magazine.
Kit came out a good bit later than the OG six. I got Molly and Kirsten when I was pretty young, but I remember my mom tried to get me a Kit doll when I was like 13. I was a piece of shit and over them by then, so we gave it to a cousin who really wanted one.
I thought Kit came out only a little after Josephina? I read she still isn’t retired so that’s probably why she isn’t here, I’m guessing

yeeeah I remember being in my AG phase when both Josephina and Kit came out (but I think I'd outgrown it by Kaya) 🤷
I don't even remember being aware of these dolls existence when I was a kid. I was super into Barbie's but never really liked any other types of dolls. My daughter never really took an interest in them either.
does this mean I can get the rest of Kirsten's outfits
RIGHT I need to know if the old outfits will be available. I had her winter outfit and her Christmas one, but I always wanted to get the school dress.
I got that one off ebay or some shit a few years back.

Part of me really wants to but Josephina bc I wanted her so badly and never got her

I had all the books for Kirsten, Molly, and Samantha but there was no way my parents were going to spend that much money on the dolls.
I have Samantha, my sister then also picked Samantha (my parents expected she would want Molly). We can tell them apart because her's has a mark on the foot (from a marker). They are still boxed up in the basement.
I feel like these are overpriced. I did want one as a kid but now I see why my parents didn't get me one lol. I used to go through the magazines and get the books from the library. Also, semi-related, my grandma has porcelain dolls with her mothers hair in them! And my aunt claimed them when my grandma dies. That just seems creppy as fuck.
lol yeah I used to feel like shit that my parents wouldn't get me stuff like this. but at this age I realise like.. yeah, $100 for what is essentially a toy or figurine, when you're barely making ends meet for rent food clothes etc, is just not happening
I had Samantha and Kirsten. No clue where they are now?
I was too poor for the dolls. I did read some of the books though.

I'm hoping to take my daughter to the American Girl store when she's a bit older!
My mom really wanted me to be into American Girl. i had several dolls, a horse... i just....I LOVED BARBIE.(the horse got a lot of use tho with stuffed animals) Barbie was everything to me until I was 13. I still love seeing them come out. The dolls now are so cool! My cousin also loved American Girl and my grandpa built her all sorts of furniture and she took her Felicity doll with her everywhere, even dressed as her for halloween.
