Joseph Gordon-Levitt tweeted about Inception, fans lose their shit in the replies

- ONTD favorite Joseph Gordon-Levitt recently tweeted about Inception, particularly the moment where the character Eames (played by Tom Hardy) says to Arthur (played by JGL) the classic line “You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.”

- Collectively, 2010 fandom were empowered by this recognition of the Arthur/Eames pairing as canon. From local stans to the infamous Aja, they all lost their shit in the replies and quotes.

- Despite the lack of recognizable pre-existing characters, Inception remains a fandom rarity in the amount of fic it spawned.

Were you ashamed of 2010 you who crushed on this man, ONTD? Do you still have fond feelings for Inception?

Do you have any fic recs?

tbh whenever I see this scene I expect to see juggarnut's avatar
I remember not understanding why people were so confused because I didn’t think it was some genius twist. Maybe because I just didn’t care? lmao

You have great taste and you should say it louder.
I only ever saw it once cause it was such a chore to watch for some reason
It was okay, I don't get why people call it a "modern classic".
I remember liking Shutter Island because it was the more ~understandable~ Leo movie of that time
they had a toxic work environment
that movie inspired some excellent fanfiction
The best and hottest!
Where are those links, though?
Here is a great rec list that breaks fic down by length with story descriptions.

I just rewatched Inception last year and how I still love it. Joe's tweet made me laugh.

I was deep into that fandom a decade ago and it was so much fun. I've been reading some of my favourite Arthur/Eames fic during quarantine and it's brought back so many great memories.
Same! We also recently did a rewatch and I went down a rabbit hole rediscovering my fave Arthur/Eames fics on LJ. Such good times
It was so much fun. If you're still going through fics here is a great rec list that I found last year.

Yes this whole lj account was created to join an inception big bang community. The fandom was so lively and enjoyable in its zeitgeist, but it declined quickly. RIP.
I am not ashamed that I read Arthur/Eames fanfiction when Inception came out.
god I loved this movie. 2010, so i was 14, the height of my fandom days. I saw this movie six times in cinemas - I went every Thursday after school lol. I read every fic, watched every fan id, ever meta post, every theory. god I was.. obsessed.
it was also definitely my real introduction to well written porn, lmfao.
at 14

jesus fucking christ.

(not judging you, just - the mother in me and the 14 year old naive virgin in me cringes at the thought of it)

Same lmao after school i would go see inception

Tho i didnt read any fanfic from inception then i KNEW their love was ~real~ trolololol
I love Inception and always will! I saw it in cinemas 3 times and then saw it many more times on TV. I agree with the people that say that it's not impossible to understand or to figure out like a lot of people say, but I think it's a great movie and it's really well made. Unfortunately, it's the last Nolan's movie I've liked (I haven't seen Tenet yet). I hated Interstellar.
I wish Cillian had been the one who had gained more recognition for this movie instead of Tom Hardy, who hasn't learnt not to mumble when he acts yet. I guess being Leo's friend has its benefits (just take Jonah Hill).
I still have not seen this. Is it actually good? I heard it rips off Paprika but idk if that's true or not.
not really. it's just a similar concept executed differently
it's a really fun movie with some great sequences. it's fairly front loaded tho, i always found the last 1/3 disappointing.
Maybe I'll watch it tonight then.
It's definitely inspired by Paprika, but is totally different. I still think it's a great heist movie, very fun!
Idk about Paprika but it's a fun heist movie if that's your thing :D

Nolan takes a lot of “inspiration” from Satoshi Kon in general (director of Paprika). So he did take the general idea as well as shot some of the same scenes. It depends on how you see plagiarism vs paying homage…
Dream traveling is not a new concept.

It does, there are entire scenes that copied Paprika almost picture by picture.
it's still a nice watch
I loved it. It was different and some of the fight sequences were cool. It's just a fun movie.
eames/arthur/ariadne ot3 for life!!!
waves my tiny arthur/cobb flag on my tiny island. i wanted to get into the fic but i couldn't stand eames/arthur lol. i've loved jgl since treasure planet tho
I had a huge crush on him during his Mysterious Skin era lol
I was so OBSESSED with this movie, the fandom was fun lol
Yes! I even got the special Blu-Ray box with all their totems.
That was the last time I really participated in a fandom. It was almost like the last hurrah of early internet fandom (there was even a LJ kink meme!)
Oh. I remember the lj kink meme.

I miss kink memes. They were such a fun, interactive way to prompt, write, and read fic. The LJ design in general was so well-suited for fandom. It's a pity they did Strikethrough and chased people off in search of greener, more secure pastures.

I love Inception, it’s definitely in my top 5 favorite movies. I’m still trying to believe that the man who created it made that godawful waste of time that is Tenet.
Nolan has become such a disappointment. I hated Interstellar, Dunkirk was a snooze and Tenet was almost unwatchable
I liked Tenet so much lol
he rly tried soooo hard to top Inception with Tenet but ended up miles away
It definitely felt like he was trying to recreate magic, but there was just no charisma, the world building felt spotty, and not enough payoff.

Inception had some “hand wavey don’t worry about it” going on but Tenent felt like that’s all they relied on.

accurate
I'm afraid to watch Tenet. I hated Interstellar and Dunkirk was completely meh, not to mention The Dark Knight Rises (the only movie in the trilogy I only watched once).
I had high hopes after Memento and then Inception, but I think Nolan got too much into his own hype.

I honestly don't like anything he's done after Inception. Memento and Prestige are both great but since then, meh. I never cared for his Batman films either.
I had very mixed feelings about Tenet; I enjoyed the concept a lot, but the film felt like one giant masturbatory exercise like, just two hours of Christopher Nolan wanking and saying "Look how overly complicated this plot is! I made this!"
i never got into this fandom, but i do like the occasional inception au fic in other fandoms
jgl was cute in inception but his look in brick>>>>>>>>>>
Inspired by Spike Spiegel!
wheeeeeew yes brick! i love that movie

Fuck yes. Brick is a great movie, I watch it at least once a year.
god yes
same
I still have never seen this film.

Anyway no I'm not ashamed of my crush. Lol he was cute

Also, i love darling as a term of endearment.
Lemme go check my AO3 bookmarks and read sumn again. I had forgotten about this fandom.
